Gem recently bought a farm, it's a 5 acre piece of land she got at a steal. It has a cozy little house that just need a few touchups.
The size of the farm was perfect, it was small enough that she could manage it on her own but also large enough to provide for her and her pets. Though, she definitely has enough to sell the local market.
Unfortunately, a small accident happened when she was repainting her house. The ladder she was on slipped from the wall and she unceremoniously crashed on the floor. Thankfully, she wasn't that high on the ladder, still, she broke her arm and now it's in a cast.
She managed to find someone to do her job while she heals. Her name is Pearl and is the niece of her neighbors. She recently moved in due to wanting to escape the city life and was looking for a job. The circonstances was perfect, really.
After a few days, Gem discovered she had a lot in common with Pearl. They talked about their lives before coming to this town, their hobbies, everything and anything. It was easy to talk to Pearl and Gem liked hearing her voice.
One afternoon, a realization struck Gem. Gem wasn't totally crushing on Pearl, was she?
Certainly, the way the sun shining through Pearls hair made her ethereal. And the way she turned to her and smiled brightly was adorable. And the way she wiped her sweat with her shirt and reveal her abs was hot.
But surely, she wasn't absolutely down bad for her, right?
It's just because she thinks Pearl could really help around the farm even after Gem is healed that Gem wants to keep her around, right? Definitely just that. After all, Pearl is a great help. And Gem had been thinking about getting an extra pair of hands, she'd just been worried about paying them!
It turns out Gem didn't even need to stress about asking Pearl to stay. She simply never moves out, even once Gem is back to work. They delegate tasks and work together like they've been doing it forever.
The farm is the perfect size for the two of them. And Gem thinks they've both got what they wanted from coming here.

Thinking about how Rose first found out she had healing tears.
Because the only way she could have found out is if a gem she cared about was cracked in front of her, right?
So imagine Rose after a fight, holding an injured, glitching Pearl, wondering if all of her pearls are doomed to meet a horrible fate because of her, and oh stars, this time is even worse, Pearl is actually about to die in Rose's arms, and there's nothing, nothing she can do to fix it.
Pearl meanwhile trying to reassure her, even as she slowly loses control over her own mind and body.
Rose crying, desperately wishing she'd done something, anything differently, so she wouldn't be here with another dying pearl.
And then a miracle happens.
Suddenly, Pearl has control over her body again, and when she reaches up, she finds that her gem is whole and undamaged, like it was never cracked in the first place.
Pearl immediately shrugs off the shock of almost dying in favour of praising Rose. Of course Rose would be able to heal her, she's perfect and wonderful and nothing bad could ever happen to Pearl as long as she's by her side!
Rose on the other hand is absolutely shaken.
First of all by a lightyear, she almost lost Pearl forever just now.
But also, she apparently has healing powers?
Rose has spent the last two thousand years defining herself by what she did to her first pearl, wanting to change while also being convinced that she's an inherently violent, horrible person, who will only ever hurt people.
But now, here on Earth, she's looking at the living (living!) proof that she can change and has done so already, so completely that Pearl, her Pearl, thinks that the power to heal, not hurt people is perfectly natural for Rose to have.
On that day, Rose promises herself that this pearl will only ever know her as the loving, nurturing person she believes Rose to be.
Rose turns her back on Pink Diamond and never looks back.
