Can always tell when I’m selling rocks to a Steven universe fan because they pronounce sugilite wrong

#it’s SOO- JUH - LITE not SOO- GUH - LITE #in su they say soo-guh-lite and it bothers me #Steven universe is alright but my biggest critique is clearly no research was done for the rocks at all considering at least 2 have their #names pronounced wrong #(peridot and sugilite)#(peridot is a little grey because technically a western pronunciation COULD be pear-ee-daht but it’s a French word and the original #pronounciation is pear-eh-DOH)#what also bothers me is in Steven universe future there is a larimar gem and larimar is really cool except 1. the gem persona looks nothing #like larimar. and 2. larimar is from the Dominican replublic and forms in VOLCANOS and in the show larimar has ICE powers. which is probably #just because it’s blue. when they could have literally had the blue character with fire powers and a fun call to larimar a origins #but whatever. WHATEVER.#also it annoys me how there’s just a ‘jasper’ when jasper is such a broad category and there’s a million fuckin types of jasper. that’s like #having a character who is just ‘quartz’

You don’t have to be the answer to their problems, you don’t have to have the answers to their problems, you sometimes need to only listen and confirm you listened. Just remember to never dismiss what feels like to them world shattering events. Yeah sure it might only be a fight at school, miscommunication between them and their peers, but this is their social life, their lifeline to stability. Treat their emotions as valid and listen. Even if you don’t have the answer to everything, your honesty to them that you don’t have the answer means a lot. Not many adults are vulnerable enough to admit to kids they don’t have the answer.

Remember Connie from Steven Universe? Sometimes kids need to be reminded to breath and that it’s okay.

it also made me very sad at one point one of the kids said her dad was being hateful towards drag queens and that he had a very skewed/incorrect view of what a drag queen was and wouldnt listen to her and told her she was “too naive” when she tried to explain

and i replied “if i remember correctly when youre at this age it seems adults will wave off any of your life experiences even if they lack their own because they refuse to see those younger than them as their own people” and EVERY SINGLE KID AT THE TABLE turned and said EXACTLY

and i was like. oh. so i wasnt alone in that. but also. i dont have to BE that. im not doing that. im listening and actually talking to them. i hope that there are older people in their life doing the same.

um. i dont know how to say. please listen to the children in your life. its true sometimes youll know better but, often times they have perspectives we may miss and dismissing them hurts everyone in the end. we have so much we can share and learn together.

#Some of them are doing such amazing things at their age #it's a shame when Adults don't see them as their own people and miss what they're up to and creating #From a perspective of watching a bunch in an art server #It'll be lonely the day they're ready to move on from the server and carve out in new communities but I can't wait to see what they create #the pear rambles #Also for as much as what was wrong with that show #how they handled Connie was spot on #She's just a kid with her own fears and anxieties and not once is she dismissed by the Crystal Gems for it #Youtube
