Jubilee events and some sad moments as far as the Duckverse for 2021 is concerned.
As 2021 is slowly coming to an end, I decided to dedicate another post related to anniversaries and some sad moments as far as Donald Duck and his world are concerned this year. This is more compensation for the reason that I did not manage to publish all those events, so I will briefly put those moments here. I hope you understood me.
1. 30 years since the release of Quackshot (a video game in which Donald fights  against Pete in search of mysterious treasures around the world)
Tumblr media
2. 65 years since the appearance of Flintheart Glomgold - He appeared in the comic book "The Second-Richest Duck" by Carl Barks, in February 1956.
Tumblr media
3. 25 years since Maui Mallard (video game in which Donald Duck is like a ninja and has his secret identity under the name Maui Mallard and fights against a tribal sorcerer)
This is a small problem because the game itself was realized in Europe in 1995, while in North America next year, in 1996, and in Microsoft Windows, that game has been available since 1996, so I'm not sure if it would be an exact jubilee, so I'll put 25 years after all, so since 1996. Of course, those who haven't played can watch such videos on YouTube.
Tumblr media
4. 70 years since the creation of the character Gyro Gearloose
Although he appeared in the comic book "Gladstone's Terrible Secret" in May 1952, Gyro was born as a character on August 23, 1951 by Carl Barks. Certainly Gyro's 70th birthday or birthday will be next year.
Tumblr media
5. 60 years since the creation of the character of Miss Emily Quackfaster
She is Scrooge's secretary and appeared in the 1961 comic book "The Midas Touch". Yes, in the same comic, where Magica de Spell appeared for the first time. She is mostly portrayed as an old and kind woman (in many comics and in both versions of Ducktales), but in Italian comics she is a slightly younger person, but an old woman with blonde hair, but still an interesting character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Sad moments - deceased people
Yes, a lot of celebrities (and even more celebrities) have died this year. However, when it comes to Duck comics, two notable writers for Donald Duck comics have gone to another world. The first writer is Pat McGreal, who wrote a lot of comics, especially with his wife. Comics such as Blotman, Donald Ronin, Gal for Gladstone, Orb Saga, Mythos Island... Unfortunately, he died in June 2021.
Another writer for Donald Duck comics, Carlo Chendi who wrote a lot of Italian comics. And that he was one of the first people to meet Carl Barks and often collaborated with him. His famous comics are "Being Good for Goodness' Sake" and "The Lake Mess Monster" and others. Unfortunately, he died in September 2021. Eternal glory to the two of them and peace to their souls! Rest in peace. Amen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That would be it for now. If there are any other things I forgot to say about the jubilee and other events, feel free to let me know. Thank you for your attention!
And as for 2021, that could have been better, and it could have been worse. All in all, a good year with a lot of bad events. We hope that 2022 will be better. See you next year!

The last comic in this issue is part 2/2 of the Mickey & Donald story Millenniets magiska midnatt (known in English as New Year's Nightmare), written by Pat and Carol McGreal and drawn by Cèsar Ferioli Pelaez.
This one was always frustrating to me as a kid, because it's obviously the ending to a big cross-over adventure, and my subscription only started with this issue... so I've never actually read the beginning. The story has only been published twice in languages I understand, so I'd either have to track down a Swedish Kalle Anka & C:o issue from 1999 or an American Walt Disney's Comics and Stories from 2007.
The story does give us enough to get us up to speed, though. The evil wizard Morbidio is preparing to fuse his two magical orbs into a scepter that will let him rule the world, and apparently it needs to be done at the strike of midnight of the new millennium. The gang stopped him at midnight in Duckburg, but he's gonna try again in a time zone where it's still December 31.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Borrowing Scrooge's high-speed aircraft, Mickey and Donald go to confront the wizard at Goodnight Atoll, located exactly on the international date line, and there's some fun dramatic art of seagulls and sea lions fleeing as he successfully fuses the orbs and summons a tidal wave to obliterate Mickey and Donald.
Apparently, they learned in the previous issue that you can interfere with the orbs with high-pitched sounds, and they manage to do so with conch chells... causing the scepter to divide and suck the wizard into a magical whirlwind.
Tumblr media
"I'm not afraid of picking them up, I just don't wanna do it."
Afterward, this fun scene where the two try to get the other to be the one to pick up the orbs while hiding that they're afraid of touching them, as the camera pulls back.
So obviously I'm missing the first half of this, but I'll say that the story feels pretty average, and that what really carries this is the interactions between Donald and Mickey, and the great art. I wish they got to interact more often, because their frenemies/rivals dynamic is some good stuff and makes Mickey way more of an interesting character than he usually is.
So that's it for Kalle Anka & C:o 2000-01. Next issue has a William van Horn story, and I'm looking forward to that.

DC Comics' FIGHTING AMERICAN
DC Comics’ FIGHTING AMERICAN

Written by Dave Rawson and Pat McGreal Drawn by Greg LaRocque Inked by Richard Space Published by DC Comics
PREVIOUSLY: Joe Simon and Jack Kirby’s FIGHTING AMERICAN
Well I guess you just can’t keep a Fighting American down for good. As I noted before, after the initial series came to an end after 7-issues, the character remained dormant for 11 years until an 8th issue was published in 1966. It…

Duckverse Comic Translation - Mummy crumb
New Dimeshipping Comic translation and it is AWESOME! THE ENDING! Loved it!
MUCH and endless thanks to TheUltimateDuckFan  for pointing the new comic to me, providing the pages and BETA reading!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can hardly put into words how much this story has delighted me. I translated it in two days cause I wanted to know whats going on exactly ^^;
I like it when Magica is drawn older, but still her beauty is recognised. Also that she doesn't care a bit about the good looking Egyptian.
The guy came a few years too late. For her there is only Scrooge ;p (my opinion)
Yes, Scrooge is theoretically just following his dime but the development is fantastic. As soon as they are in the present, Scrooge begins to praise Magica for saving his life and so does she aswell.
The most important thing about this story is the last page. The two embrace each other as if it were the most natural thing in the world, because for a moment they don't think about who they are. It is honest. they make quiet the "power team". Exactly!
Rarely have you seen the two of them with such happy faces. And so it seems that what comes after is what I always thought it was. An excuse.
They keep trying to convince themselves that they must be enemies, but it seems artificial and suddenly they are not happy anymore.
Even Gyro's face, who has been watching everything, speaks volumes.
But the two stubborn heads are still far from being honest with their feelings.Yet it was a fantastic beginning.
And yes I know it was all we will ever see in Canon. But it makes me very happy, that's all I expected from Canon ever anyway ♥
If the Ducktales reboot could include such a scene, it would make up for the otherwise other screw-up of Magica in that show for me.

Jay's Honeymoon
Comic Issue(s): The Flash vol 2 #161 by Pat McGreal, Paul Pelletier
Content Warning: N/A
Summary: A short summary of Jay's Honeymoon, a story which he told in The Flash vol 2
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Jay Garrick married Joan and they decided to Honeymoon in Vegas. Jay felt a little left out at his own wedding because he couldn't very well invite the JSA that would defeat the whole purpose of them having secret identities.
So they get to Vegas and there's a knock on the hotel door. And sure enough, on the other side is a good chunk of the JSA. Pretty much all of the guys were there. The guys ask Jay if he thought he could get hitched without them celebrating it and Joan tells him to go have fun so he goes with them and they end up in a casino. They play in a private room and they talk pretty casually.
The conversation comes around to whether or not the guys would ever tell their partners about their double lives because there should be no secrets between spouses but everyone else pretty much says that it would defeat the purpose of them wearing masks; prompting Jay to basically say this is why he's the only one who is married. Jay leaves to go check on Joan. While he's flirting with his wife and debating ditching his friends for the rest of the night, the rest of the JSA gets attacked by the Fiddler and another person who I can't remember right now and knocks them all out. Jay ends up having to save all of his friends and he finally gets back to the hotel room and he's so tired he falls fast asleep.
And that is how Jay and Joan spent the first night of their Honeymoon in Vegas.
