Signora in her Traveler companion verse looks a lot more like rosalyne ; she loses the mask as well , but her hair covers the burns on her face. Her outfit is less intense also , && without a delusion she can only use the flames that burn her ; which is eased with the Traveler around. I think it would be cool if she found herself a vision during , && having a pyro vision would completely shatter her expectations in a cruel but poetic way. Does she stop being a bastard? Only just , && that's mostly because the pain and vulnerable state she's found herself in ; her memories as Rosalyne can't be contained anymore , so parts of her old personality show through a lot , even if she's still guarded about it. She also still has loyalty to her Queen , but as she is right now , she is trying to regain strength to return home -- even if it's not in the same capacity as before. I just think her having a reliance on the Traveler's purifying capabilities would be the only way those two could work together , even just a bit. As well as her being watched over by the Tenryou Commission , like Scara , but in very much she's a prisoner on temp parole at times.

talking to people recently out of prison: a do-and-don't guide
Don't ask, "How was prison?" (Answer: traumatic!)
Do ask, "What are you most looking forward to doing again now that you're out?"
Don't ask, "How long were you in for?" (Answer: too long!)
Do ask, "Is there any technology or pop culture I can help catch you up on?"
Don't ask, "How are you going to avoid getting back into bad behaviors?" (Leave the paternalistic bullshit to their PO.)
Do ask, "How's your support network? Do you have people helping you adjust?"
Don't ask, "Do you have a job yet?" (Their PO is asking them ALL the time, don't worry.)
Do ask, "Are there any opportunities I should keep an ear out for and let you know about?"
Don't ask, "Do you have an ankle monitor?" (And definitely don't ask to see it - no one likes to be gawked at.)
Do ask, "Do you have parole restrictions we need to accommodate when making plans?"
Don't say, "Hey, you shouldn't be doing that - it's against your parole!" (A lot of parole restrictions are bullshit, and they are an adult who deserves agency, even the agency to take risks.)
Do ask, "Are there any bullshit parole restrictions you need help working around?"
Don't ask, "Are you an addict?" (Not everyone in prison is, and they'll tell you if they want you to know.)
Do say, "If there's stuff you might get in trouble for, like empty alcohol containers, I can throw them away at my place."
Don't say, "It's probably best if you put your whole prison life behind you and start fresh." (Just because it was traumatic doesn't mean important experiences and relationships didn't happen there.)
Do say, "If you have letters from friends on the inside that you don't want your PO to find, you can keep them at my place."
Don't say, "You paid your debt to society." (Regardless of what they may have done, harm cannot be repaid through senseless suffering.)
Do say, "You are more than the worst thing you've ever done."
Do not ever ask "What were you arrested for?"/"What did you do?"/"Were you guilty?"
People are more than the worst thing they've ever done.

BETTER LUCK TOMORROW - three ! breaking principles
pairing : nishimura riki x reader
synopsis : after being in the wrong place at the wrong time, you (as well as your friends), were framed for the death of your brother and disappearance of your boyfriend. you all had no hope. no job, no money, none of you were even allowed to graduate. at least, until a stubborn kid on a dance scholarship suddenly acts as your savior, riki helps clear your name all for the sake of a school project.
this episode contains the following : 0.5k wc, swearing, mentions of death, court dates, house arrest, violating parole, and juvie + jail
authors note - these last few days were so busy cz halloween, school, (and the dodgers winning the ws!!) all that stuff😭
previous | masterlist | next
the two stood in front of your house.
despite jungwon telling riki not to do so, he knew there was no point in trying to change his mind.
you weren’t hard to find, because they knew you still lived with your family (aka heeseungs old house). so riki didn’t hesitate to drive straight to your place.
but he did hesitate to ring the doorbell.
jungwon watched as riki reached out, before drawing his hand back every few seconds. he grew so tired of standing in the hot sun, until eventually pressing the button himself.
they expected your mom or your other older brother to answer, literally anyone but you.
“oh, jungwon? i was wondering who was at the door. well, wow. this is.. this is really awkward. you haven’t come by since the funeral.” you coughed.
“hi yn.” he smiled. “i know, it’s been a while.”
“whos this?” you ask, pointing your head in riki’s direction.
“what? seriously? i was one of heeseungs friends. i came around just as often as jungwon!” he exclaimed.
“im sorry, i don’t remember all of my brothers- i mean, heeseung. i don’t remember all of heeseungs friends. but, look. i get that it’s been a while since we’ve all met, but i think you guys should go.”
“wait yn!” jungwon called out right before you closed the door.
“don’t you wanna know why we’re here?” he asked.
you frowned slightly as you thought on the matter, before nodding your head.
“fine, go ahead.” you sighed.
“senior project. you remember, don’t you? for college apps-” “i never got to apply. i wasn’t even allowed to graduate.” you said sternly, cutting riki off. “you remember, don’t you?”
riki turned with wide eyes to face jungwon for an idea on what to say next, but jungwon only mouthed the words ‘hurry before she tells us to leave again’.
“we want to reinvestigate that issue before your next court date because-”. he cleared his throat aggressively as he carefully chose the next few words. “because we heard you violated your parole.” riki swallowed, but it wasn’t enough. his face fell as he watched your expression change.
“you’re saying you think you can solve my case for your final project? nice fucking try you two, but not even my lawyer could help me out as you can see here.” you scoffed, before sticking your leg out from behind the door, to point out the ankle monitor you wore.
“house arrest. huh.” riki muttered.
“it’s worth a shot. we might be able to prevent you from being incarcerated again. and clear any charges from your record if we can prove it wasn’t you.” jungwon stepped in, beginning to ramble.
“yeah. jungwons mom is an attorney! and his sister is studying law.” riki smiled. but, he paused when you raised your hand in a way that screamed the words ‘stop talking’.
“listen, as much as i appreciate the gesture, i think im the last person you want to free. everyone’s seen me as the person who killed her brother and boyfriend, for the last 3 years. nothing else. if you want answers, go interview one of the others who were framed. aeri got out around the same time as me.”
“but yn- you were lucky you only got juvie! even after you turned 18. if this next court session doesn’t go well, you could go into like, a real jail!” riki exclaimed with wide eyes.
“goodbye riki. nice seeing you jungwon.” you nod, before slamming the door in their faces.
“well that couldn’t have gone any worse.” he sighed.
“you know what, im going home. i still have that french exam to study for. but uh- i have some theories. i’ll see you around man.” jungwon huffed, patting riki on the shoulder before he walked off your front porch.
riki followed without a second thought, before they both eventually split ways.

“Here.” He says as he sets down the picnic blanket, smoothing it out across the damp grass with his large hands.
The two of you have been testing the boundaries of his ankle monitor lately, trying to work out what wiggle room he has after curfew so you don’t accidently overstep the bounds.
“This is perfect.” You say as you sit down on the blanket and Bode takes up residence behind you, his chest coming to rest against your back, his thighs bracketing yours, his arms wrapped around you. You laugh as his lips chase up the side of curve of your throat, brushing over that ticklish spot.
“I love the fact you’re such a nerd.” He murmurs into your ear.

"New Mexico will establish a permanent absentee voter list and remove barriers to voting on tribal lands under sweeping legislation signed into law Thursday [March 30, 2023] by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
The measure also will automate voter registration during certain Motor Vehicle Division transactions and more quickly restore the voting rights of people exiting prison after a felony conviction. It was supported this year by Democratic legislative leaders and Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, after a similar measure died in the final moments of the 2022 session amid a GOP filibuster...
Republican lawmakers fiercely opposed the bill this year, too, contending automatic voter registration and other measures aren't necessary in a state that already allows same-day registration. But advocates of the legislation, House Bill 4, celebrated Thursday [March 30, 2023] as Lujan Grisham signed the bill during a ceremony at the Capitol with Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver; House Speaker Javier Martínez, D-Albuquerque; and others.
Native American leaders described it as critical step toward protecting the voting rights of people on tribal land, especially those without a traditional mailing address. [More details in/moved to the last key point!]
In a signing ceremony at the Capitol, Lujan Grisham said the legislation would serve as a template for other states. "We want to send a message to the rest of the country — that this is what voting access and protection should look like," the governor said...
Absentee voting: Sign up once
The legislation calls for a permanent absentee voter list to be available in time for the 2024 elections. Voters could sign up once to get absentee ballots mailed to them before every statewide election. People on the list would also get notices mailed to them seven weeks before Election Day. Any election-related mail returned to the county clerk as undeliverable would trigger the voters' removal from the absentee list.
Automated voter registration
Automatic voter registration during some transactions at MVD [DMV] offices — such as when a person presents documents proving citizenship while applying for a driver's license — would begin in July 2025. Newly registered voters would be told they've been added to the voter rolls and that they'll get a postcard in the mail allowing them to decline the registration. For MVD customers already registered to vote, their address would be updated in the voting rolls if they renew their driver's license with a different address.
Restoration of rights
The legislation will restore the voting rights of felons when they leave custody rather than after they complete probation or parole. Inmates would be granted the chance to register or update their registration before release. The Sentencing Project, an advocacy group, estimated the measure will restore the voting rights of more than 11,000 citizens.
New holiday
The bill makes Election Day a school holiday.
Drop boxes
The legislation requires each county to have at least two secured, monitored boxes for people to drop off absentee ballots. State election officials are empowered to waive the requirement or grant requests for additional containers, depending on the circumstances of each county.
Native American voting
The proposal establishes a Native American Voting Rights Act.
[Moved here from earlier in the article]
The measure requires collaboration with pueblos, nations and tribes on establishing polling places, early voting locations and precinct boundaries. It also allows members to register to vote or receive absentee ballots at official tribal buildings — a necessity, supporters said, for residents who don't receive mail at home. "It is truly monumental reform," said Ahtza Chavez, executive director of NM Native Vote and a member of the Kewa Pueblo and Diné Nation. "It requires collaboration with tribes at all levels.""

How do electronic monitoring devices for prisoners balance security with human rights?
Electronic monitoring devices for prisoners and offenders are a testament to the evolving landscape of criminal justice, aiming to strike a balance between ensuring public safety and upholding the human rights of those being monitored. These devices, which track the movements and activities of individuals under house arrest or probation, are designed with the dual purpose of preventing recidivism and facilitating rehabilitation in a manner that respects individual freedoms and dignity.
The core of balancing security with human rights lies in the use of technology that is both effective in monitoring and minimally intrusive. GPS ankle bracelets, for example, allow for real-time location tracking, enabling authorities to ensure that individuals comply with their movement restrictions without necessitating physical confinement. This approach not only reduces the strain on prison systems but also allows individuals to maintain employment, family connections, and access to rehabilitative services, crucial factors in reducing the likelihood of reoffending.
Moreover, modern electronic monitoring systems incorporate features designed to respect privacy and dignity. Data encryption and strict access controls ensure that sensitive information is only available to authorized personnel. Additionally, the design of the devices themselves focuses on being discreet and comfortable to wear, minimizing the stigma associated with their use.
Transparency in the use of electronic monitoring and clear communication with the monitored individuals about their rights and obligations also play a critical role in upholding human rights. It's essential that those under monitoring understand the extent of the surveillance, the reasons behind it, and their rights to appeal or question the monitoring conditions.
Laipac is at the forefront of developing electronic monitoring solutions that carefully consider the balance between security needs and human rights. Our devices are designed with the highest standards of ethics and compliance in mind, ensuring that monitoring is both effective and respectful. To learn more about our commitment to advancing electronic monitoring technology in a humane and responsible manner, visit Laipac's Electronic Monitoring for House Arrest.

Draco Malfoy had always lived at the whim of others.
When he was younger, he devoted himself to the noble pursuit of mimicking his father’s every sneer and hair flip, perfecting the “I’m-better-than-you” look by the time he could tie his own shoes.
By sixteen, however, he had a new boss—a megalomaniacal, noseless dark wizard who handed out assignments like, “Murder the most beloved and powerful wizard in Britain,” as though it were a perfectly reasonable extracurricular activity.
After that, he was at the mercy of a string of parole officers who monitored him during his house arrest with the enthusiasm of a Niffler at a jewelry shop.
So when Head Unspeakable Hickley popped up one afternoon, interrupting his robe fitting at Madam Malkin’s, and proclaimed, “The universe has demanded your service at the Department of Mysteries,” Draco barely batted an eyelash. He didn’t question it. He merely adjusted his cufflinks, nodded solemnly, and asked Madam Malkin to add to his order a set of the most soul-crushingly dull dress robes available—ones that screamed “I’m just another cog in the Ministry’s bureaucratic machine.”
And just like that, Draco had a new overlord: the universe itself.
Deep within the bowels of the Department of Mysteries, nestled somewhere between the Time Room and the Hall of Prophecies, there was a magical ball of yarn that allegedly conveyed the universe’s whims and fancies. At least, that was the most sensible explanation Draco could come up with for it. Unspeakable Hickley preferred grandiose terms like “the threads of time and truth” that indicated every possibility of their universe and any other universes parallel to it.
Draco figured “glowy yarn ball” was simpler.

Rebecca Riley was born on April 11, 2002, to Michael and Carolyn Riley. From a young age, Rebecca was subjected to a series of medical treatments for alleged behavioral and mental health issues.
By the age of two, she was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and bipolar disorder by Dr. Kayoko Kifuji, a psychiatrist at Tufts-New England Medical Center. This diagnosis led to Rebecca being prescribed a regimen of powerful psychiatric medications, including Clonidine, an antihypertensive drug often used off-label to treat ADHD symptoms, and Depakote, an anti-seizure medication used as a mood stabilizer.
On December 13, 2006, Rebecca was found dead in her home in Hull, Massachusetts. The autopsy revealed that she had died from a lethal combination of the medications she had been prescribed. The excessive doses of Clonidine, combined with other drugs, had caused her heart to stop.
Rebecca's parents, Michael and Carolyn Riley, were charged with her murder. Detectives found that they had repeatedly given her higher doses of medication than prescribed, using the drugs to sedate her rather than to treat her conditions properly. Testimonies during the trial painted a grim picture of neglect and misuse, with evidence showing that the parents had continued to administer medication even when Rebecca exhibited symptoms of overdose, such as severe lethargy and difficulty breathing.
The trial brought to light significant failures in the oversight of prescription drug use in children and the responsibilities of healthcare providers. Dr. Kifuji, who had prescribed the medications, faced scrutiny and criticism but was not criminally charged. She voluntarily suspended her medical license during the investigation but was later reinstated after agreeing to monitoring and additional training.
In 2010, Carolyn Riley was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years. Michael Riley was also convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole.

Neighborhood Watch Program
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a far away town, there is a special program for felons to help them re enter society. Under the police officer's discretion, hey may choose any convicted criminal of his choosing to enter the program under his parole. The new inmate will now be trapped within the perimeters of the police officers house via ankle monitor. Of course, they shock they get from leaving the premises or trying to alter their device is so strong they don't think about even about escape. When they are brought to the property, the officer will usually give them a "test drive" with their remote control, where it usually takes them about a day to wake up. After that, they are usually pretty "open to suggestions" from the officers, and are aware what misbehavior could result in.
Some men take a little longer to break in than others, but after a few weeks or months they are pretty much completely obedient pets. Part of their training involves a very precise grooming and dressing regimen. This helps them gain back some structure in their life, building better habits to make them more helpful members of society. The now reformed felons are usually put in charge of maintaining the cleanliness of the home, cook three meals a day for his police officer in his care, and really anything else his police officer in charge asks of him. While you may start off with a whiny brat, if you follow all steps in the manual, you are sure to end up with a perfectly obedient man who can act as your loyal son, constantly saying how grateful he is for your guidance and leadership in his life, and anything else you want him to say!
Look how much happier these men look! You too can be this happy. If you don't have a program like this around you, search out alphas and men in power through whatever way necessary. Men always need somebody else to obey their every word.

Ok so in waiting patiently for the next chapter ( I'm waiting for Roxy to go apeshit) I was going through some of my favorite moments of season 4 so far and S1-S3 when a question came to mind.
We know Light Rock is for Rehabilitation. But, the Trix killed 100+ people, and Valtor also killed a few along the way. But with Valtor I can at least see him getting redeemed considering somethings.
But would people have even wanted them or him out? I mean, they did kill people's family members. Like he killed a mermaid that had nothing to do with any of his motivations
Or would they never truly be free? Like on parole or always on watch.
I don't know if this makes sense sleep schedule is all out of wack. 😅😂.
kay, so, in my mind Light Rock very much has the final say on whether or not someone is freed or not, regardless of what any planet may have to say since they do take rehabilitation so seriously
Depending on the level of danger they pose, some are simply released and done with. Some are released back home with a magic monitoring bracelet
But, on ocassions like the Trix or other very dangerous/hated/controversial criminals the protocol is to give them a safe place to really have the chance to start over, that involves setting them up in another planet, with a new name and a basic apartment to start off in
When it comes to very dangerous criminals it is also protocol for them to wear a necklace or bracelets that monitors either their use of magic or fully prevents them from using magic, again, it depends on the danger level.
But when it comes to very hated criminals, they get a full blank slate, new name, new planet, new everything

YOU
Eliana: Where you running off to so early and looking so good?
.
Makoa: I petitioned to end my parole early. The hearing is today.
.
Eliana: That's great news! Goodbye, ankle monitor!
Makoa: Don't pop the champagne just yet. The judge may deny the petition.
.
Eliana: I don't believe that. You've never missed a meeting with your parole officer and you're walking the path you're meant to walk. If the judge doesn't see that...
.
Eliana: I have faith in you.
Makoa: I love you.

Serpine in therapy for the asks :)
Okay so my headcanon is actually that Nef doesn't get a choice about going to therapy. It's part of the parole agreement he makes with the Sanctuary when he immigrates to Roarhaven. Whether or not he is answerable for our Serpine's war crimes, and whether the Sanctuary here can try him for his war crimes back in Leibniz, is still up for debate by legal professionals and he'd rather not risk it, so in exchange for his freedom he agrees to comply with weekly check-ins with a parole officer (which ends up being Skug, because China is spiteful), regular therapy, and location monitoring.
And like. Honestly, he thinks the whole thing is a massive waste of time - the Sanctuary flexing its power over him to make a point. He shows up, he's charming and personable, he flirts with the therapist and the girl on reception and anyone else he happens to bump into - but he thinks that before long, he'll have them convinced that he's psychologically normal and doesn't need their services, and they'll discharge him.
But like. The thing about Nef, aside from having a sadistic streak a mile wide and Chronic Backstabbing Bitch Disease, is that he's spent the vast majority of (at least) his adult life surrounded by people who would turn on him in a heartbeat if it suited them to do so. He comes from a world where abuse, manipulation and betrayal are not only common, they're the norm. That's the only way to relate to the world and to others that he understands. The Faceless worshippers are a nasty bunch who all encourage each other's worst impulses and learn to care only for themselves, and on the rare occasion that they break those habits, they tend to get hurt by those who haven't. So like, Nef's normal meter is completely and utterly broken. In his Handbook backstory, his childhood was unstable and emotionally damaging. As an adult, he has nothing to do with his family - all he had was Mevolent and the Church. His relationship history is littered with violent psychopaths like Christophe Nocturnal and Jaron Gallow, people who approved of and supported Serpine's own sadistic tendencies, but also tended to vent theirs on him when it suited them. This. Man. Is. A mess.
The therapist suspects complex trauma - although, that's not as unusual a diagnosis as it is for mortals: it's a given for millions of sorcerers who survived the 500 Year War - narcissistic tendencies, though not to the point of a full blown personality disorder, and an obsessive focus on/one-sided rivalry with Skulduggery.
Honestly, I think Nef would mostly use it as an opportunity to annoy Skug. He pays attention, but mostly so he can take what the therapist tells him and put it to use while Skulduggery is stuck in the car with him for an eight hour stakeout. Psychoanalyse him. Armchair-diagnose him. Treat him to a three hour monologue of "My therapist said..."
But like. You know that thing where you start saying hewwo to mock other people who say hewwo, and it's kind of a mean-spirited joke at first, but suddenly you've unironically adopted hewwo into your daily vocabulary and can't stop saying it? Yeah.
Some of it starts to get in via osmosis and sheer habit. He spends so long mockingly telling Skug about all the problems that he (Nef) thinks he (Skug) has, that he actually starts to notice things for real. He can tell when Skug is dissociating. He can point out to Val that she has a tendency to pull away from and lash out at the people who want to help her, because she's terrified to be seen as anything other than competent and capable, and then he'll think, hold on, I do that too.
A lot of therapy goes in one ear and out the other because it doesn't work for him - complex trauma is just Like That. The standard practices - like CBT - seem like platitudinous drivel to you, and the fact that everyone else seems to think they work often feels like a great big joke everyone is playing on you. But he takes in enough to start making some small changes to how he interacts with others and how he behaves. He starts learning how to react appropriately to distress signals in the people who are becoming his friends, rather than seeing those signals as something to take advantage of, a soft spot to sink a knife into and twist. He's developing basic empathy, which actually helps him, because for once in his life he's in a situation where bonding with others is The Way To Get Ahead, rather than something that would get him killed.
And he's getting a better grade in therapy than Skug, by virtue of actually agreeing to go, so he gets to be smug about that.
