Otten Cup 2024
Manchester United's U19s finished sixth in the Otten Innovation Cup this weekend - behind winners (and reigning holders) PSV Eindhoven, runners-up Atletico Madrid, RB Bragantino, Benfica, and FC Utrecht - who beat us on penalties in our final match.

United's youngsters went over to PSV's De Herdgang campus in Eindhoven, Netherlands last week to compete in the Otten Innovation Cup, which is a rapid-fire weekend format tournament with some unique rules to test format adjustments.
We've seen from the popularity of the King's League on Twitch, and the frustration with VAR about time to check that people want continuous action and engagement, so testing changes makes sense.
Game 1: United 0-1 Benfica. A tight, very-even game settled by a last-second goal from Francisco Couto. Sucker punch.
Game 2: United 2-0 PSG. Goals from Tyler Fletcher and Zac Baumann gave United their only win of the tournament against the Parisians. PSG weren't useless though; United's ill discipline saw several spells with 10 men due to the sin bin, allowing PSG to dominate possession and create chances they just couldn't finish.

Game 3: PSV 1-0 United. The eventual winners, reigning champs and tournament hosts managed a 1-0 win over United in another close game. Robin van Duiven scored in the 26th minute, finishing a cross from the right wing by Benjamin Khaderi. United were competitive though, with Amir Ibragimov hitting the bar and being saved on several occasions.

Game 4: HM Jeonbuk 1-1 United (1-4 P). United conceded a free kick through sloppy defending 10 minutes in, with Seokjin Han burying his shot expertly. United went on the offensive and Tyler Fletcher bagged his second goal of the tournament five minutes later, evening the tie. Not much else happened for the rest of the game, but United won comfortably on the deciding penalties at the end.

Game 5 - 5th/6th Place Playoff: United 1-1 Utrecht. United started slowly and suffered a few chances before Zois Karargyris tapped home the opener. The first half fizzled out and the second half wasn't much better - even with Utrecht down to 10 men. United won a late (arguably soft) penalty which Gibraltar international James Scanlon scored to take the game to penalties. Unfortunately for United, Tyler Fletcher missed his penalty and led to United losing 3-4 to the Dutch side.

PARIS Saint-Germain fans with a Free Palestine Tifo for their game in the champions league

PSG fans’ ‘Free Palestine’ tifo draws criticism from French minister
The Paris club’s ultras fans unfurl a huge banner in support of Palestine and Lebanon during a Champions League match.

The sprawling tifo – 50 metres wide and 20 metres high, and spread over both tiers of the stands behind the PSG goal – depicted the Palestinian and Lebanese flags with an image of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem at its centre. “War on the pitch, but peace in the world,” a message underneath said. It also showed the historical map of Palestine.
During the match, the fans unrolled another message that read: “Does a child’s life in Gaza mean less than another?” French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau has criticised the unveiling of a giant “Free Palestine” banner by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) football fans before their team’s UEFA Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, saying it is “unacceptable”. The incident came eight days before France hosts Israel in Paris in a UEFA Nations League game

Spain's football star Jenni Hermoso filed a criminal complaint over the unsolicited kiss by federation boss Luis Rubiales after Spain won the Women's World Cup, prosecutors said on Wednesday.
The complaint, which was filed on Tuesday, enables prosecutors to launch a preliminary investigation on possible charges of sexual assault. The complaint will be processed "as soon as possible", the prosecutor added.
The lawsuit could entail criminal charges against Rubiales, in addition to ongoing investigations by Spain's top sports court into "serious misconduct" and an investigation by world football's governing body FIFA, which has provisionally suspended Rubiales.
What happened after World Cup final?
Rubiales grabbed Hermoso's head and kissed her on the lips during the medal ceremony that followed Spain's 1-0 win over England in the final of the Women's World Cup in Australia on August 20.
Hermoso later said the unwanted kiss had left her feeling "vulnerable and like the victim of an assault," with a statement on social media describing it as "an impulsive, macho act, out of place and with no type of consent on my part."
Rubiales, who has so far refused to resign despite heavy pressure, said the kiss was "spontaneous, mutual, euphoric and consensual."
Late last month, the prosecutor for Spain's High Court said Rubiales could face a sexual assault charge, which can carry a prison term of between one and four years, if Hermoso were to file a complaint.
Hermoso now plays for Mexican club Pachuca after a long career with top Spanish and European clubs, including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid.

PSG fans unfurl 'Stop Genocide in Gaza’ banner Middle East Eye / June 01, 2025 at 12:47AM / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiB-RueRTU0 Time: 0:33 Paris Saint-Germain fans raised a banner reading “Stop genocide in Gaza” during the Champions League final on Saturday, shortly after Achraf Hakimi scored in a 5–0 win over Inter Milan. Some fans also waved Palestinian flags and wore keffiyeh scarves during the match. The fanbase has previously shown support for Palestine, including a “Free Palestine” banner during a match against Atletico Madrid in November. Israel’s deadly blockade and ongoing bombardment of Gaza have pushed the population of over two million to the brink of famine, raising serious concerns for the wellbeing of the entire population. Olympique Lyonnais vs Manchester United 04/10/2025
Well... it is simple. Fonseca and I think the owner Textor wants OL to be a run and gun team like modern Barcelona or Paris Saint Germain or Dortmund ,
What is a run and gun team ?
A run and gun team is a team that looks to attack at a high frequency. The strategy is based on the idea that the best defense is to attack, unlike possession teams like barca in the xavi era who defend through possession or counter teams like inter milan under mourinho who defend absent the ball or open play teams like 2024-2025 atleti under simeone or real madrid under ancelotti or zidane who defend through possession or without the ball as they play a reactive system to defensive situations.
The run and gun leaves the defense open, you can always tell a run and gun team cause every match they give point blank chances to opponents.
Barca/Dortmund/OL under Fonseca all do this.
So what are the keys,
don't ever let up attacking, a one or two goal lead isn't enough. You have to keep it up
you will get bloody noses, as barca under flick have shown this season, the only way to handle getting scored on multiple times as a run and gun is to keep it up step 1,
you have to risk yellow or red card situations. The entire season I have seen, barcelona players commit cardable fouls when caught out but the referees have chosen to allow it most of the time, does this mean the refs will give the same grace to OL... no? but it has to be risked. OL have to be willing to risk those.
So, Attack ^INF this is what Fonseca wants, MUFC or any other team can score on OL with such a posture, but that is the strategy. Pass faster, press more collectively , take more shots at target.
by 36:51
and no excuse for MUFC with a heigh advantage and same idea the initial ball is on target, that ball challenges defenses to be proactive
no onside, the player for mufc kept everybody onside, young one forget his name, came from liuegue1
lenny yoro from lille
mufc wont get a red for that tackle against OL
You sent
great sliding tackle defender, OL are very short, can't afford too many set pieces
45:00
dribble king jr!! CHERKI!!!!
lovely player
53:11
wrong choice lacazette, i say blast it and see what happens
94th minute
cherki is celebrating like we were great, we got lucky, poor defense again, the common theme this week, so few teams know how to defend, it is atrocious, but 2-2 onto the next leg at the theater of dremas, hopefully a boys dream
END OF MATCH
OL is athletically unimpressive, I don't know where fofana is, maybe hurt but OL is a skill squad this season and the problem with skill squads no matter the strategy is the execution has to be perfect, reminds me of Atletico madrid at times in the last few seasons.
When I look at the number of passes and the inability to cut through I think OL's squad could use a possession system, not attack or bunker but literally possession system. we have the players to play possession against anybody, where OL get in trouble is rushing attack, don't rush it, but Fonseca is of the attack ^INF school like flick, and like guardiola /flick/sarri he is a rigid coach, he doesn't change based on the squad , he tries to force a squad into a form. So onto the next leg. Fonseca wants a quicker attack a higer rate of attack but it is clear the squad at best wants to possess , defend through possession. we will see , no excuse to not go for this title, OL masculin need it
