Otten Cup 2024
Manchester United's U19s finished sixth in the Otten Innovation Cup this weekend - behind winners (and reigning holders) PSV Eindhoven, runners-up Atletico Madrid, RB Bragantino, Benfica, and FC Utrecht - who beat us on penalties in our final match.
Tumblr media
United's youngsters went over to PSV's De Herdgang campus in Eindhoven, Netherlands last week to compete in the Otten Innovation Cup, which is a rapid-fire weekend format tournament with some unique rules to test format adjustments.
We've seen from the popularity of the King's League on Twitch, and the frustration with VAR about time to check that people want continuous action and engagement, so testing changes makes sense.
Tumblr media
Game 1: United 0-1 Benfica. A tight, very-even game settled by a last-second goal from Francisco Couto. Sucker punch.
Game 2: United 2-0 PSG. Goals from Tyler Fletcher and Zac Baumann gave United their only win of the tournament against the Parisians. PSG weren't useless though; United's ill discipline saw several spells with 10 men due to the sin bin, allowing PSG to dominate possession and create chances they just couldn't finish.
Tumblr media
Game 3: PSV 1-0 United. The eventual winners, reigning champs and tournament hosts managed a 1-0 win over United in another close game. Robin van Duiven scored in the 26th minute, finishing a cross from the right wing by Benjamin Khaderi. United were competitive though, with Amir Ibragimov hitting the bar and being saved on several occasions.
Tumblr media
Game 4: HM Jeonbuk 1-1 United (1-4 P). United conceded a free kick through sloppy defending 10 minutes in, with Seokjin Han burying his shot expertly. United went on the offensive and Tyler Fletcher bagged his second goal of the tournament five minutes later, evening the tie. Not much else happened for the rest of the game, but United won comfortably on the deciding penalties at the end.
Tumblr media
Game 5 - 5th/6th Place Playoff: United 1-1 Utrecht. United started slowly and suffered a few chances before Zois Karargyris tapped home the opener. The first half fizzled out and the second half wasn't much better - even with Utrecht down to 10 men. United won a late (arguably soft) penalty which Gibraltar international James Scanlon scored to take the game to penalties. Unfortunately for United, Tyler Fletcher missed his penalty and led to United losing 3-4 to the Dutch side.

7.chelsea
8.Manchester united

PARIS Saint-Germain fans with a Free Palestine Tifo for their game in the champions league
Tumblr media
PSG fans’ ‘Free Palestine’ tifo draws criticism from French minister
The Paris club’s ultras fans unfurl a huge banner in support of Palestine and Lebanon during a Champions League match.
Tumblr media
The sprawling tifo – 50 metres wide and 20 metres high, and spread over both tiers of the stands behind the PSG goal – depicted the Palestinian and Lebanese flags with an image of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem at its centre. “War on the pitch, but peace in the world,” a message underneath said. It also showed the historical map of Palestine.
During the match, the fans unrolled another message that read: “Does a child’s life in Gaza mean less than another?” French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau has criticised the unveiling of a giant “Free Palestine” banner by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) football fans before their team’s UEFA Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, saying it is “unacceptable”. The incident came eight days before France hosts Israel in Paris in a UEFA Nations League game

Spain's football star Jenni Hermoso filed a criminal complaint over the unsolicited kiss by federation boss Luis Rubiales after Spain won the Women's World Cup, prosecutors said on Wednesday.
The complaint, which was filed on Tuesday, enables prosecutors to launch a preliminary investigation on possible charges of sexual assault. The complaint will be processed "as soon as possible", the prosecutor added.
The lawsuit could entail criminal charges against Rubiales, in addition to ongoing investigations by Spain's top sports court into "serious misconduct" and an investigation by world football's governing body FIFA, which has provisionally suspended Rubiales.
What happened after World Cup final?
Rubiales grabbed Hermoso's head and kissed her on the lips during the medal ceremony that followed Spain's 1-0 win over England in the final of the Women's World Cup in Australia on August 20.
Hermoso later said the unwanted kiss had left her feeling "vulnerable and like the victim of an assault," with a statement on social media describing it as "an impulsive, macho act, out of place and with no type of consent on my part."
Rubiales, who has so far refused to resign despite heavy pressure, said the kiss was "spontaneous, mutual, euphoric and consensual."
Late last month, the prosecutor for Spain's High Court said Rubiales could face a sexual assault charge, which can carry a prison term of between one and four years, if Hermoso were to file a complaint.
Hermoso now plays for Mexican club Pachuca after a long career with top Spanish and European clubs, including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid.

[ad_1] Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola (PC: X) Bragging rights will be on the line as defending champions Real Madrid take on Premier League champions Manchester City in a blockbuster Champions League playoff, featuring 10 past European Cup champions. The league phase of the revamped Champions League format came to a dramatic end on Wednesday — which saw 18 matches played simultaneously — as Aston Villa snuck inside the top eight, securing an automatic qualification spot to the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition. Man City finished an embarrassing 22nd in the league phase after suffering three defeats against PSG, Juventus, and Sporting CP, while Madrid finished one point behind the qualification spot in 11th. The draw sets up the fifth two-legged tie between City and Madrid in the last six seasons. Last year, Madrid ended City’s hopes of retaining the Champions League as they won in a penalty shoot-out at the Etihad in the quarter-finals. The winners of this game are likely to face either Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16. Besides Real Madrid’s encounter against Manchester City, the play-offs will witness Bayern Munich taking on Celtic, while PSG go up against French rivals Brest. A Final Day of the UEFA Champions League left
Feyenoord defeat Bayern 3-0 a guardiolist who relegated burnley showed his true colors.
MCFC lose 4-2 after leading by two goals- Fernandhino vs Viniciusjr + Nunes vs Barcola , the third psg goal a free header. PSG can't defend, and MCFC can't defend worse, like Benfica the day before. But like BArcelona, PSG came back
while Real MAdrid scored five goals, and none of them were from defensive errors like raphinha's two against Benfica, both of raphinha's goals came through defensive errors of Benfica, the keeper passed to raphinha and then benfica didn't even have correct defensive posture and the benfica keeper came out silly.
As the group stage ends you can see the teams who collectively defend well and collectively attack well, or who have a balance where they implement their attack or defense to a plan.
Thank you Henry, Guardiola coached a team that was exposed the same way twice by PSG . And again, no one in media is suggesting Guardiola has had it but many in media suggest Ancelotti is out of it.
Silly fools. Barca and MCFC and PSG are all ripe to get knocked out with their defense, each is exposed, run and gun eventually catches up to you
My one club in the tournament Atletico Madrid have red bull salzburg.. a tough match. It is clear from round 7, that salzburg will go for it, so the rotation need to be up for it.
For Ligue1
Monaco face Inter Milan - Inter Milan will want to end in the first quadrant so this is a vital match for the youth in the squad or the monaco squad itself. The experience, the possibilities. They are guaranteed the playoffs so go for it. The media ranks Inter Milan higher but the truth is Monaco is a youth team, they lack the experience so it is uncertain how they will play. But I think an even match.
Lille face Feyenoord- A battle, another battle, Lille have no reason to not go for it. It will be a great experience , again, a test to Lille, One against an opponent not rated higher than them. But it will be an even match for me.
Brest face Real Madrid- Brest are a battling team but Real Madrid has the most weapons of a team in the tournament, and Ancelotti is finding the balance with the squad and will not disrespect Brest. Brest must be ready to fight.
PSG vs Stuttgart- Stuttgart will battle for their lives. PSG have young weapons who are growing, and thank you Luis Enrique for explaining to pundits that PSG in the galactique era can't be compared to psg in the , what i call, coequipe era. The issue with PSG is they can't defend, they came back but they came back because their defense is weak, run and gun costs you and psg must win, if both psg + stuttgart draw and mcfc win, mcfc is through.
UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2024-2025 GROUP STAGE
1st quadrant- round of 16 seeded
mandatory 1st quadrant Liverpool Barcelona
mandatory 1st or 2nd quadrant Arsenal Inter Milan
mandatory 1st or 2nd or 3rd quadrant Atlético Madrid AC Milan Atalanta Bayer Leverkusen
2nd quadrant- playoff seeded Aston Villa Monaco Feyenoord Lille Brest Borussia Dortmund Bayern Munich Real Madrid
3rd quadrant- playoff unseeded Juventus Celtic
Can still enter the 4th quadrant PSV Eindhoven Club Brugge Benfica Paris Saint-Germain Sporting CP VfB Stuttgart
4th quadrant- eliminated Manchester City Dinamo Zagreb Shakhtar Donetsk Bologna Sparta Prague RB Leipzig Girona Red Star Belgrade Sturm Graz Red Bull Salzburg Slovan Bratislava Young Boys
