PARIS Saint-Germain fans with a Free Palestine Tifo for their game in the champions league
PSG fans’ ‘Free Palestine’ tifo draws criticism from French minister
The Paris club’s ultras fans unfurl a huge banner in support of Palestine and Lebanon during a Champions League match.
The sprawling tifo – 50 metres wide and 20 metres high, and spread over both tiers of the stands behind the PSG goal – depicted the Palestinian and Lebanese flags with an image of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem at its centre. “War on the pitch, but peace in the world,” a message underneath said. It also showed the historical map of Palestine.
During the match, the fans unrolled another message that read: “Does a child’s life in Gaza mean less than another?” French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau has criticised the unveiling of a giant “Free Palestine” banner by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) football fans before their team’s UEFA Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, saying it is “unacceptable”. The incident came eight days before France hosts Israel in Paris in a UEFA Nations League game

Ashworth gone, Rashford going?
Well, the circus keeps performing...
Dan Ashworth has left his position at Manchester United as Sporting Director by "mutual decision".
The story was broken by The Athletic at the weekend, following United's 3-2 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, which was considered an odd situation as Ashworth had performed his day's duties and attended multiple matches - even bringing his family to Old Trafford for the Forest game.
Rumours in the days since are that a lack of synergy with the vision held by the rest of the club has deemed the former Newcastle director to be surplus to requirement at the club, whilst others have suggested he was the driving force behind the temporary reprieve that Erik Ten Hag received and proposed unimaginative choices for a new manager like Graham Potter, Gareth Southgate and Eddie Howe.
It is unclear if United will move to appoint a new Sporting Director as soon as possible or will be patient to find the right candidate.
Rumours have also come out today surrounding Marcus Rashford and a departure - which could be as soon as next month.
The United forward has had a rollercoaster ride of good form, bad form during his career to date. Some of this can be blamed on the general poor era United are in, managerial changes and tactical adjustments, injuries, maybe even personal life issues... but whatever has been at fault, it has been evident for some time that Rashford isn't firing at the moment.
My personal take is that he needs the confidence of the manager, and for Ruben Amorim to play him for a good run of starts. Alejandro Garnacho has a better G/A return this season but his general play has been poor bar those big moments. Garna has the worst dribble success rate (21.6%) in the Premier League this season (30+ attempted), and might also be mired in scandal imminently around teamsheet leaks to his brother for social media clout.
So yes, I'd give Marcus more starts, bench Garna as punishment/for development purposes, and then go from there and re-assess in the summer.
Should Marcus leave, the obvious destination would be Paris Saint-Germain, but there are also rumours of Barcelona being interested. I'd be surprised if one of the Milan teams wasn't willing, maybe a Leipzig or Dortmund, and then there's also the MLS and Saudi. If Marcus has lost a yard or confidence because of the back breaks for example, a move to sunnier America and being more of a star personality over there could be good for him.
Given his self-sacrifice, I won't demand Rashford be shifted on. It's good for PSR sure, and being Mancunian doesn't equate to the right to play for the club, but he put in the work and played through the pain. That earns him credit in my eyes - even if that means using him as a backup player.

Otten Cup 2024
Manchester United's U19s finished sixth in the Otten Innovation Cup this weekend - behind winners (and reigning holders) PSV Eindhoven, runners-up Atletico Madrid, RB Bragantino, Benfica, and FC Utrecht - who beat us on penalties in our final match.
United's youngsters went over to PSV's De Herdgang campus in Eindhoven, Netherlands last week to compete in the Otten Innovation Cup, which is a rapid-fire weekend format tournament with some unique rules to test format adjustments.
We've seen from the popularity of the King's League on Twitch, and the frustration with VAR about time to check that people want continuous action and engagement, so testing changes makes sense.
Game 1: United 0-1 Benfica. A tight, very-even game settled by a last-second goal from Francisco Couto. Sucker punch.
Game 2: United 2-0 PSG. Goals from Tyler Fletcher and Zac Baumann gave United their only win of the tournament against the Parisians. PSG weren't useless though; United's ill discipline saw several spells with 10 men due to the sin bin, allowing PSG to dominate possession and create chances they just couldn't finish.
Game 3: PSV 1-0 United. The eventual winners, reigning champs and tournament hosts managed a 1-0 win over United in another close game. Robin van Duiven scored in the 26th minute, finishing a cross from the right wing by Benjamin Khaderi. United were competitive though, with Amir Ibragimov hitting the bar and being saved on several occasions.
Game 4: HM Jeonbuk 1-1 United (1-4 P). United conceded a free kick through sloppy defending 10 minutes in, with Seokjin Han burying his shot expertly. United went on the offensive and Tyler Fletcher bagged his second goal of the tournament five minutes later, evening the tie. Not much else happened for the rest of the game, but United won comfortably on the deciding penalties at the end.
Game 5 - 5th/6th Place Playoff: United 1-1 Utrecht. United started slowly and suffered a few chances before Zois Karargyris tapped home the opener. The first half fizzled out and the second half wasn't much better - even with Utrecht down to 10 men. United won a late (arguably soft) penalty which Gibraltar international James Scanlon scored to take the game to penalties. Unfortunately for United, Tyler Fletcher missed his penalty and led to United losing 3-4 to the Dutch side.
