Some Mr. Verity backstory headcanons
Honestly, we know pretty much next to nothing outside of his life as the Mr. Verity and I believe this is rather on purpose: all there is to him is his endless dedication for the hunt to the paranormal for that all his life has been and probably will ever be, or so he believes, so I kind of thought about some hcs about his backstory:
His name is Abraham. I kind of hc'ed his name before as Theodore but when I saw someone pointing out that he is a foil to Abraham Strach, I believe Cellbit subtly pointed that his name is Abraham as well, since we know that in his driver's license is registered as "A. Verity".
There simply isn't a period in his life prior to the paranormal: His oldest memory is him, knife in hand and backed against a wall as he pants, staring at the blood zombie he just killed. He doesn't remember anything prior, if he had parents, family, nothing. A boy who came out of nothing and with nowhere to go.
The agents that found him reach the conclusion that he's an orphan or maybe the cult they killed claimed the lives of his parents too, it's impossible to know. As the order valued secrecy above all in his period, they just send him to an orphanage and hope that the kid somehow forgets it all and lives a normal life.
However, he knows about the supernatural, he could never forget it even if he tried, so he does a bit of detective work on his own and it takes years to finally find them again, but he does so anyway.
To say the least, the Ordo is in equal parts ashamed and astonished to have been discovered by a teenager, who all but pleads to let him enter, they refuse at first, after all, he's just a child, but after Verity gives them some strategic pointers on what to do on a mission, which ends up saving the lives of a whole squad of agents, they relent and let him enter as kind of an assistant.
Verity spends little time doing stuff that isn't related to the paranormal: he's either training his body or his mind and when the question of who's the most promissing sharpshooter, fighter or investigator of the Order pops up, the answer to that question is always Verity.
The previous leader of the then Ordo Veritatis was a man much like our Verity, being the one who personally trained him and was as methodical and focused as Veri. Still, in that period of time, knowing other agents identities was prohibited because of security and perhaps even self-preservation reasons, rule that the then leader of the Ordo Veritatis upholded.
As such, he was a kind of father figure to Veri, however, he was a bit emotionally distant but quite similar to his pupil in many ways.
Verity dedicates himself wholly to the fight against the paranormal because that is all that his life is and will ever be: He doesn't believe that he has a "future", he doesn't believe he could learn a trade and have a normal job, he knows that all there is to him is his talent (or perhaps talent is the wrong word, talent implies a natural predisposition, and Verity knows he worked to turn himself into whatever he is now, he chose this).
His first mission is uneventful, his group quickly annihilating the creatures that plagued a certain place, and seeing the sheer power of the group, they get drafted in more and more missions together. Verity knows he shouldn't, but... he grows curious about his teammates. One evening, in a moment of respite while in a mission, the topic of the masks is brought up and one of the rowdier and louder ones of his team thinks they're a fucking terrible idea that they honestly get on the way of his breathing and before any of them can protest, he yanks the mask off. There's silence at first, before another other removes the mask and Verity is stunned with the most gorgeous man he'd ever seen in his life saying that he agrees that the masks are dumb. He looks at the others, waiting for fellow disapproval only to see others taking them off. He's the last one to take it off and it's the actual first day he actually meets his teammates, the ones who he had been investigating and risking their lives together for months now.
Christopher Cohen, Aaron, Chizue Akechi, Francisca Parker and Arnaldo Fritz quickly become the most important people in his life. He knew it was arrogance and it could get you killed in the battlefield but he felt invincible with them, all of them working like the most powerful and well-oiled machine he ever had the pleasure of being part of. The life expectancy of an agent is... not great, but they were the legendary agents that won against any creature or cult no matter how strong. Verity sometimes even wanted for his next mission to be with them because he knew everything was going to be alright as long as they fought together.
However, the Annihilators, as they dubbed themselves, wasn't the only team he participated on and in many of those teams, despite the best of his talent and skill, it was not enough, people still died, he still had to report their deaths, give news of their ends to families who had no idea how their beloved ones simply... died. Verity asked himself all the time if there was more he could do to become smarter, sharper, strong enough to protect all of them and make the fight against the supernatural a little less frightening. The answer he often gives himself is "I don't know."
He tries to live on because of others, because of the image of the all-seeing strategist and leader of the Ordo, he tries to incorporate those lost lives in his mania to fight. If they can no longer breathe and taste and dance, he will take all those blows and pain that will never be onto himself. If they become a memory, he carries their memories like ghosts in his mind. It's all he can do: fight and remember them.
He feels guilty for surviving at times. Logically, he knows that those things are bound to happen in the battlefield, but he often feels that it should be him, the barely-a-person to die in the jaws of a monstrosity from the Other Side than... actual people with lives and future.
Arnaldo once told him that, despite his claims, Verity is someone who loves all of the agents of the order, and deeply, but he struggles to see that
Verity has a severe case of workaholism and survivor's syndrome. To work and investigate is both a way of deepening his perception that he needs to be punished for surviving and of dissuading his anxieties.
It's doesn't surprise anyone that he's appointed to be the next Mr. Verity, like it's a throne that he has earned ages ago, and yet, the news doesn't exactly fill him with joy, only responsability, his burden solidified. He accepts it in the name of all those who died before him, of all those who he remembers
That man needs to retire RIGHT NOW and spend time with his daughter istg

Hi!! Inktordem!! Totally didn’t forget!! I’m only a few minutes late!! Have a quick and dirty character study!!
Spoilers for the finale of OPC!
DAY 4 — RELÍQUIAS
Getting Kian and the Relics secured in the São Paulo base was priority, of course. Construction of the new safe room was projected to take three days. Arthur has been in and out during that time, splitting his hours between resting at home, coordinating people at the base as they arrived from Italy, checking in with his friends, and handling his part of the funeral arrangements.
He hasn’t seen his guitar case since he handed it over at the airport. It arrived before him, traveling separately due to its contents. His sniper went to weapons storage, where Ivete eventually cleaned and repaired it. Meanwhile, until the construction is completed, the safe behind Veríssimo’s desk is where they’re currently holding the Magistrate’s mask and Joui’s sword.
He’s…doing okay, all things considered. Plenty of things to do, plenty of people to see, and damn, plenty of hours to sleep. He’s fairly certain Mr. Veríssimo has been giving him less tasks than he usually does, but Arthur knows he, personally, needs the break, and he knows Mr. Veríssimo needs the work. Arthur spends time with Ivete and the others, chatting frequently and playing silly games of pool and reminding himself that it’s not all lost, and that the love is still there. The empty spaces in his life. The ache of phantom limbs. The people who were just here, ripped away. He tries not to let it choke him. When it’s only him at night, swathed in the silence, a bloodied, serene smile in his mind…he doesn’t always manage it.
~*~
Getting Kian and the Relics secured in the São Paulo base was priority, of course. Construction of the new safe room was projected to take three days. Veríssimo has been in the base since before construction started—the one to call in the contractor they usually trust to handle these sorts of projects. He’s been coordinating with Letícia to make sure everyone who needs a flight to Brazil gets one, coordinating with Arthur to make sure people are guided by someone when they come in, and getting his…personal affairs in order.
Aside from when he initially received it, Veríssimo has opened Arthur’s guitar case only once since it arrived. Rubens came by about a day after Veríssimo returned to Brazil and asked where the Relics ended up. Well, Relic. To assuage his concern, Veríssimo took out the guitar case and unzipped it for him, showing the Relic of Energy safely stored inside. All Rubens asked was if it would get a proper safe like Kian. When Veríssimo told him that construction was already underway, Rubens nodded, and with sparse words, left.
Veríssimo put the Relic of Energy away with a gentleness reserved only for the damned. It has been sitting, and continues to sit, in the safe behind his desk, nestled beside Arnaldo’s Grimoire and Veríssimo’s old shotgun. He swears he can feel him sometimes, hovering at his shoulder or slouched over the back of his chair as he works. Veríssimo is already well acquainted with such ghosts, though. No Relic could ever hope to mimic such a feeling. Veríssimo continues, just as he always has. There are funeral arrangements to be made.
~*~
Getting Kian and the Relics secured in the São Paulo base was priority, of course. Construction of the new safe room was projected to take three days. Rubens hasn’t spent very much time in the base at all. He came by when he initially arrived, just to see if he was needed, but when Arthur told him to go home and rest, he did. Well, he went to visit Johnny, which is just as good.
He came by a second time, after visiting Johnny, to see what was being done with the Host. Mr. Veríssimo showed him that it was being stored in the safe behind his desk until construction of the new safes was completed. A couple more days, Mr. Veríssimo said. Until then, it would be under his watch. Rubens was still doubtful, but he could feel the heat coming off it from where he stood, the way the air crackled around it, and he decided it was time to leave.
The only other time he came to base during those three days was when the team started texting about a game of pool in the Whattsap group and Balu began to demand a rematch from him. Other than that, he has been visiting Johnny, and sleeping, and visiting Johnny, and texting, and keeping his mind away from the phantom pressure around his neck and the just-barely-there hum of electricity in his sternum. Some mornings he wakes up and the roof of his mouth still tastes like blood.
~*~
They wait for Rubens to arrive before opening the guitar case. Arthur is the one to do it, the metal zippers warm to the touch. He steps aside to allow Mr. Veríssimo to lift Joui’s sword out while Rubens spins the dials on the safe. A deep thunk, and the door swings open: a long, shallow locker, with a pair of pegs at the top.
Arthur watches Joui’s sword go in, hung gently. He exchanges a look with Rubens, who has his hand on the door and seems to be waiting for something.
But there’s nothing to wait for, is there. It’s done. Arthur nods, Mr. Veríssimo steps back, and Rubens shuts the safe.

Spooktober Celebrationⵈ🎃ⵈSpiritualism Movement
Spiritualism became a social and religious movement toward the end of the 19th century. In which, followers believed in a static afterlife, the ability to contact spirits, and that these spirits had moral and ethical insights. Scholars claim Emanuel Swedenborg as the father of Spiritualism.
By 1897, it is believed that spiritualism had 8 million followers across the United States and Europe. Most of these followers: came from upper and middle classes, were women, and supported abolitionism and suffrage.
The movement would weaken from accusations of fraud, but spiritualism is still prevalent today regardless.

Inktordem!!!! im starting with week 2 shshs we'll see if ill write more after it ends.... take this little thing about agatha cause the first thought that popped into my head when i saw the prompt was the library puzzle. and no way im writing that. so she gets it <33
some vague spoilers for aop if anyone cares about that
day 8 - biblioteca
The library is quiet, like always.
None of her classmates bother her here- at least not that frequently. She does not know if they're afraid of the librarian or the principal or something else entirely, but here she can breathe and not have to watch her back every second and it's good.
Mister Álvaro does not help with the bullying. None of the teachers really do, just give her a fake smile and pat her on the back and say to “just ignore them, it'll pass” and offer fake assurances and more fake smiles and none of them really care and she's so angry, why is nobody helping-?
But it's fine.
It's not like she needs help.
Mister Álvaro has given her a job. She can do that. She can do this one thing correctly.
And maybe… maybe then he will see that she's good.
Because she is; she's not a murderer, she's not a killer, she's not like her mother, not anything her classmates say she is.
So she tries not to let it get to her. Lina is enough, even if they don't meet often and that asshole keeps telling her rumors that aren't true and she has to explain herself every time they see each other- but it's fine.
Lina is nice.
Sometimes, Mister Álvaro lets her stay in the library ever after dark- Sometimes, Lina even joins her.
(Only when nobody can see. They can never let anyone see.)
But today, Agatha is alone.
She dusts the top of the shelves off, rearranges the books back into their correct places, and does her job.
She does not think about the book, hidden behind the secret fucking entrance to a bunker. About the dark leather cover and rituals and sigils and magic. She can do her job. She doesn't need to bother anyone with this.
She just sits down at the table, in a dark corner of the library, and reads a book that she doesn't care about.
She hopes that Mister Álvaro doesn't kick her out tonight. She doesn't want to go home.
…In the back of her mind, Agatha thinks of sneaking back into the bunker and finishing reading the book. They call her weird; and she knows she is, in a way. Surely it wouldn't make a difference if she just… leaned into it a bit.

Alien Encounter or Urban Legend? The Varginha UFO Incident Reexamined
The Varginha UFO incident, which transpired on January 20-23, 1996, in the Brazilian town of Varginha, is one of the most captivating and enduring UFO stories of the late 20th century. This event, marked by allegations of alien sightings and a purported military cover-up, has garnered significant attention worldwide, sparking intense debate and fascination. The incident’s narrative, which began with three local girls claiming to have encountered a bizarre creature, was subsequently bolstered by reports of a disc-shaped UFO sighting by numerous residents, setting the stage for a tale of otherworldly proportions.
As the story unfolded, the alleged involvement of the Brazilian military added a complex layer to the narrative, with witnesses asserting that soldiers apprehended one or more creatures, transporting them to Hospital Humanitas for medical examination. However, the military and the hospital have consistently denied these claims, attributing them to rumor and misinformation. This stark dichotomy between eyewitness accounts and official denials has been at the heart of the incident’s mystique, fueling speculation and intrigue.
Despite extensive investigations by UFO enthusiast groups, media outlets, and independent researchers, concrete evidence substantiating the alien encounter remains elusive. The absence of tangible proof has spawned a multitude of theories, ranging from the misidentification of earthly phenomena to outright fabrication for personal gain. While critics highlight inconsistencies in key witnesses’ testimonies over time, suggesting embellishment or fabrication, proponents argue that the sheer volume of similar accounts lends credibility to the event’s extraordinary nature.
The Varginha UFO incident has left an indelible mark on the town, albeit in a subtle manner. Rather than actively promoting itself as a UFO tourism destination, Varginha wears the incident as a badge of local pride and a testament to the enduring power of storytelling. Globally, the incident contributes significantly to UFO folklore, frequently cited alongside seminal cases. Moreover, it underscores humanity’s profound fascination with the possibility of extraterrestrial life, highlighting the tension between the desire for definitive proof of the unknown and the skepticism accompanying unsubstantiated claims.
This dynamic continues to fuel ongoing discussions in scientific, philosophical, and popular cultural contexts, ensuring the incident’s relevance years after its occurrence. Ultimately, whether attributed to a terrestrial explanation or something more extraordinary, the Varginha UFO incident will endure as a fascinating chapter in UFO history, a poignant reminder of the captivating power of the unexplained in shaping our collective imagination and quest for answers about life beyond Earth.

Study Diary #15
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's been almost a month since I last posted anything. I was really busy doing research for my dissertation. I finally started working on it and the entire month was spent just reading. On Monday (26th Aug, 2024), I started writing the first chapter of my dissertation and managed to write 2,200 words. Yesterday (27th Aug, 2024), I finished the first chapter and sent it to my supervisor for feedback. I am also going to discuss my plans regarding PhD courses for the future with her. Also, had a meeting with my Creative Writing Society (I have been promoted to the Vice-president position) about our upcoming events. Today was a long day. I will be working in the Enrolment units as a Student Ambassador for the September Intakes at my university and the training was today. London had good weather today - it's supposed to be a sunny week✨.

bitches b like "science is boring" as if horror and gore and blood and the visceral could exist without biology, as if cosmic horror could exist without the cosmos, as if the fear of the paranormal could exist without the knowledge of the normal found in a basic understanding of physics, and as if the witnessing of how radiation splices through and shatters celluar DNA and the suffering of a radiation wound that only grows is not any more scary than a three eyed dog.
