Tank SRPG ‘Panzer Knights’ Gets English Text Option on Steam With 50% Off Launch Discount
From Noisy Pixel
youtube
PQube announced that the Joy Brick-developed tank SRPG Panzer Knights has received an English text option on Steam. The publisher handled the English release, but the game was initially released in 2021.
Panzer Knights is a challenging and strategic action game where you are thrust into the role of a tank commander tasked with leading a skilled platoon through key historical battles of World War II. From the Battle of France to the Eastern Front, you will command your platoon against formidable enemy tanks, utilizing tactical maneuvers and the unique abilities of your crew to achieve victory. The game allows players to fully immerse themselves in intense tank warfare, managing detailed, heavily armed tanks in storied, historical settings. Each level offers main missions and side quests that challenge you to overcome defensive lines, protect strategic positions, and repel enemy onslaughts, enhancing your prestige and combat experience.
As you progress, Panzer Knights offer a deep dive into military hardware, where players can unlock and control over 20 historically accurate tanks, ranging from the Panzer 38(t) to the formidable IS-2. Each tank can be customized with upgrades, new camouflage, and optimized loadouts tailored to the mission. Players also have the opportunity to select from 30 potential crewmates to create a team that complements their strategic style, further personalizing the gameplay experience. In-game dialogues with full Japanese audio keep the communications lively, ensuring that players are fully engaged and alert. The game’s dynamic environments are fully destructible, providing tactical options for cover and new pathways to engage the enemy, adding a layer of strategic planning to every skirmish.

Eh, screw it, might as well do the Switch games too, starting with Switch games I've played in the past five or six months but gave up on before finishing them:
Reverse Crawl: Silly premise, kinda fun, but not enough for me to finish the whole thing
Celeste: I know this is probably heretical, but I didn't really like this one? I wasn't really into how the platforming felt and wasn't enjoying it that much, even though basically everyone else I know who's played it loves it. I understand that I have to stop being trans now, and I accept that
Grimvalor: The demo and first major area of the game were fun enough, but it got kind of annoying past that
Panzer Dragoon: Remake: I've actually played the original on an actual Saturn, so it was interesting to see what they did with it. I guess it was worth the like two bucks to be reminded of that, but it hasn't aged super well and mostly makes me want to play a better oldschool rail shooter like Star Fox 64 or something
Hollow Knight: Another one where lots of people I know love it but I just couldn't really get into the feel of it and lost interest pretty quickly
Fast RMX: Not sure whether this belongs under "still playing" or not [since writing this I have decided on "or not" for both this and the next game]. It's the closest thing to F-Zero in years, which is something I've been missing, but also it's hard and I'm bad at it
Burnout Paradise Remastered: Also not sure whether this one is still being played either, but I got it because I had a lot of fun with the original but never got to play any of the DLC stuff because it was never released for the PC version. I made it through a decent chunk of the DLC this time around before getting distracted, but I'm not sure whether I'll go back and do the rest or not [I probably will not any time soon, but maybe when I'm bored at some point]
Monster Hunter Rise (demo): The controls and UI are way less of a disaster than Monster Hunter Generations on the 3DS, so that's nice. I think it's safe to say that Monster Hunter just isn't for me though
Kill la Kill The Game - IF: The internet was right: this game sure can bad. It's almost ok sometimes? It constantly feels like they had half the time and half the budget they needed to actually finish making it though. The combat system is vaguely fine but not very compelling, and then the game hard-crashed loading what was probably the last fight of Satsuki's route. I took that as a sign that it wanted me to close the game and not open it again

(I am so happy to find someone writing for Trails women, thank you for existing)
So, there was an ask about Gundam heavy arms custom. And Cold Steel literally has humanoid mechs. So how about a NC7 Student S/O who does these crazy machinegun acrobatics in a Panzer Soldat, with Juna, Altina, Musse, and Rean(platonic, because Teacher/Student is bad civilisation).
(Trails of Cold Steel) Juna, Altina, Musse, and Rean watching Reader's Soldat perform insane acrobatics
On the Rean teacher/student part, absolutely based.
Tumblr media
First of all, Juna didn't even know Panzer Soldats could even jump into the air like that.
Second of all, WHAT?!
(Juna) "H-Hey, are you done showing off?! How did you even do that anyways?!"
Juna is more annoyed than anything.
Okay so MAYBE it was pretty cool, but there's no need to do that kind of showmanship in a damn training exercise!
(Juna) "Stop trying to make the rest of us look lame, S/O!"
She pouts a little in both annoyance, and jealousy.
Tumblr media
Altina blinks twice at the sight.
(Altina) "(Y/N), that was entirely unecessary."
Altina did not care that her classmate just performed an impossible feat on a several ton mech.
It was flamboyant to the point of reminding her of Millium.
And she did not like anything that reminded her of Millium.
(Altina) "Please do not risk hurting yourself or the Panzer Soldat during training, (Y/N)."
Her robotic voice requested, brow slightly furrowing.
Tumblr media
Musse can't help but clap at the show she just witnessed.
(Musse) "Impressive, S/O! You certainly know how to make an entrance!"
Oh yeah, it was extra as hell but Musse has to give respect where it's due!
She wouldn't want to do the same, surprisingly, since that was a good way to get shot during an actual combat situation.
But in times like this, it made her proud that she could call S/O hers.
(Musse) "Think you can teach me that? I'd like to impress our dear Instructor as well!"
Tumblr media
Rean and Valimar just watch in complete disbelief as (Y/N) landed in front of him, inside a giant robot.
(Valimar) "Was that necessary?"
(Rean) "Uh, I think the better question we need to ask is how?!"
Rean has seen a lot of stupid stunts pulled in his short life, but this probably took the cake.
At least until next week, before Musse or Ashe tries anything else anyway.
Rean crosses his arm inside the cockpit shaking his head.
(Rean) "Alright, so you can move pretty quickly. But that doesn't give you an advantage in combat whatsoever!"
(Y/N) "But Instructor Rean, you fly in with Valimar all the time!"
(Rean) "Because he's a Divine Knight! He's powered by...-"
Rean just sighs loudly as he facepalms.
(Rean) "Look, as your Instructor, I cannot in good conscience let you put yourself in that kind of needless danger! Tita is probably going to have to do all sorts of repairs on the legs from that landing alone!"
(Y/N) "...But it was still pretty cool right?"
(Rean) "...See me after Class, (Y/N)."
(Y/N) sigh "Yes, Instructor..."

I love how in-depth your mech discussions dive
Tumblr media
This isn't even my full power.jpg
I have to hold a lot back, because I don't know how to communicate well without overwhelming an audience.
Let me show you.
I'm right now figuring out how to explain a summary of over two years of investigation into mecha feet and contact-patch design, which led to me designing many MANY foot designs I came up with based on fighter landing gear, tank design, hovercraft, omniwheels, screw vehicles, and my personal favourites: marginal terrain vehicles and the Landmaster of Damnation Ally, which overcomes the shortcomings of 4+ generation Knightmare Frames [...]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(eg, their lack of omnidirectional motion, which they had to solve by transitioning to a psudoquadraped both with the Akito of Exile's 4-leg mode using its arms as walking limbs and the Queen Asura, which is not the same thing as a psudotetrapod because a quadraped has a abdomin structure closer to a jumping spider with the legs arranged inwardly for the front and outwardly for the back, and a tetrapod is radial pushing legs out at square or diamond angles relative to the abdominal centroid)
Tumblr media
...and of Artos/Armored Trooperoids of Votoms [...]
(which had problems of a small tarus or hoof style foot with zero longitudinal arch which results in a lack of clearly defined calcaneus and thus no formal heel which would allow terrain gripping via the relative motion of the arch and phalangal body of the toes the heel like a beak -- all to encorporate the wheel in the arch-space -- which the design partially compensates through the use of a talon mechanism, and an optional structure fitted to the ankle which folds down to form an extended front foot -- which Armored Core's 5th generation later references in the folding falanges of the UCR series -- and late,r the Blue Knight variant directly addresses by extending the foot by 50% to improve the contact leverage with ground surfaces)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is accomplished by using the stair-climber mechanism as a heel, but encorporating a scissor mechanism. Right now I'm not happy with where it is and I'm still figuring out where the hinge would go to keep it omnidirectional, which again is the common failure of leg-design in these platforms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a MASSIVE amount of information to take in even in this light summary without diagrams to explain what's happening and I'd need help to really express what I actually want to accomplish.
I'm right now deeply conflicted as to how deep I should actually go because we can get very lost in the weeds and I'm not very skilled at diagramming the points I want to make and I have an entire taxonomic and anatomical language for mecha that I remove from my work when I present it to the public most of the time.
Like do I go into the development path, do I go into the evaluation of evolutionary paths I see like throughlines connecting things like how we got from knightly designs in Panzer World Galient or Dunbine (the first isekai) informs Tekkaman Blade informs Xi Gundam informs Escaflowne informs White Glint informs Unicorn Gundam and Banshee informs NWGIX/V, etc, etc?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like there's an entire lineage and family line there being Albidimiles -- albidimiles being a portmanteau of albido (white) and miles (knight) -- not to be confused with the line Samonaut, which are essentially samurai-astronauts commonly belonging to Gundam.
Since we're dealing with design memetics, common concepts of conventional phylogenetic development don't apply since through a genetic lens, mecha is incredibly dependant on horizontal transfer -- eg, passing of information via contact, so adaptions happen not always convergently but frequently in direct parallel, as an arms-race does.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So that's an example of what this is like when I don't filter any of it for an audience, and it very quickly goes off into the weeds.
What I really need to go to the next level is an editor who understands the concepts I'm dealing with; for example, do I talk about the inherent transness of the L-Gaim Mark II and Nagano's own history with gender expression as a mechanical designer and how he expresses those feelings of femininity in his work, or do I go full schizo and present the world with my wild "Nagano-Egg Fashion-Sapphoid-Mantis" theory which is in itself a total fever dream born of conjecture gleaned entirely from his work and photographs of him leering at Tomino instead of his wife at his own marriage?
I need someone to reign me in, but also be able to support me in this capacity -- ie, a research partner who's happy to let me toil in the weeds and then is happy to help me represent these ideas and understand what you as an audience can actually make sense of.
What has happened is I accidently over-studied the design part of mecha and understudied the illustration part which I'm actually very poor at.
I can go so much deeper than I do regularly, but making sure I don't lose people is a challenge I've never managed to solve so I mostly just write for myself and then only turn it into a post if someone has a question.
Sorry if all of this is kinda disorganized.

Filling in the Blanks of An Abbreviated History of Mecha
Tumblr media
As I worked on An Abbreviated History, it dawned on me that using a broad definition of mecha makes this a rather intense project. The more I went on, the more I thought "What about Gaiking/Hades Project Zeorymer/Gravion/Genesis of Aquarion," or "Maybe I should list Dragon Ball as an honorary mecha show," or "Would Dragon Ball technically BE a mecha show," or "Should I have mentioned Panzer World Galient?" You get the idea. It's also not helped by the fact that I have not watched most of these shows, so the most I can give of a description is, at best, superficial.
My problem is that if I had kept on second-guessing myself, I'd never finish this series. So this post's purpose is twofold:
To kick off a more long-term project that will fill in the many, many, many gaps in An Abbreviated History of Mecha.
To bring to light and to give you, dear reader, an idea of just how expansive mecha is.
So here's a, once again, incomplete list of mecha that was not covered in the original An Abbreviated History of Mecha series:
Gaiking
Kotetsu Jeeg/Steel Jeeg
Danguard Ace
Super Beast Machine King Dancouga
Zettai Muteki Raijin-Oh/Matchless Raijin-Oh
Robot Jox
Heavy Gear
Genesis of Aquarion
Gotcha Force
Dragon Ball
gen:Lock (begrudgingly)
Giant Gorg
Armor Hunter Mellowlink
Gravion
Vandread
Ex-Arm (also begrudgingly, although given more time to think, I don't know if Ex-Arm actually counts anymore)
Hades Project Zeorymer
Megazone 23
Break Blade (originally was a part of Part 6 but was cut since, moreso than most shows, I didn't really have much to say about it)
Planet With
Granblem
Majestic Prince
Heavy Object
Obsolete
Gasaraki
Genocyber
Blue Gender
Flag
Knights of Sidonia
Porco Rosso
Howl's Moving Castle (the Ghibli Film, not the books, although if you squint I think you could count House of Many Ways)
The Wind Rises
Gintama (Tama out here carrying this stupid-ass series by herself)
Shogun Warriors (special thanks to Owlsounds for pointing this one out)
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Waters
The Princess and the Pilot
Medarot/Medabots
Zoids
Red Giant
Tryder G7
The Spider-Man Tokusatsu series
Iron Man
Rah'Xephon
Knights and Magic
Fafner of the Azure
Cross Ange
Robotics;Notes
And many, many, many more. If I missed any series on here that you think should have been mentioned here that was also missing in the original An Abbreviated History of Mecha, please let me know.

Most of my thoughts/observations on The Dark Ages' trailer
It's long and copypasted but
"BEFORE HE BECAME A HERO", He always was, though this unintentionally gives a point to people who think Slayer could've been a seperate character from Doomguy
Sentinel Prime on fire, i see floating rocks and castles. Could be Sentinel related like the Fortress in DE and we also see a pentagram in the sky
Sentinel ship hits a building, i also think that ship shooting stuff is demonic
Giant demonic castle with skull. Hope that thing is both a location and "alive"
Floating place reminds me of 2016 MP Empyrian. Maybe the Sentinels either build it as a tribute to or got it from the Maykrs
Slayer has a fur cape. Always expected this to happen, whether it's a superhero thing or even a Berserk reference
The new base also has Maykr tech
SSG has no meathook
Maykr ship attacking, seems to be demons/possessed and Imps it's targetting
I LIKE that Doomguy has gray colors in the helmet. Also almost thought some details resembled a crown
Helmet has no Slayer mark this time
Mancubi shoot 2 fireballs per cannon, which is an ability i always thought they deserve (It's like a mix of both modern Mancs shooting the cannons individually and the classics shooting 2 fireballs at once)
Fireballs look solid, like magma. Possible D64 homage
Their design has differences from Eternal, like a different species of fat humanoid beings
Their tech has an HR Giger look, as if they're biological: Possibly a middleground between 2016 and Eternal
It looks cool but still comes from a place of "Hell had no metallic tech until the UAC"
SSG seems lever based, probably because of the shield
New weapon crushes skulls so it shoots bits of them. Maybe skulls will be an ammo pickup
Hell factory place?
I wonder if the Possessed Soldiers, no longer being UAC, are either Sentinel or still Hell related. Maybe they're based on that 2016 concept art of the Hell razer, who knows
Shield = chainsaw
Sentinel Plasma Rifle, i knew they'd get an equivalent
Revenant looks like a grim reaper. clever
Its multi skull attack is also cool
A pink demon with horns shooting verticle stuff. Is it Pinky related? Those are usually melee
There's also someone riding them
Arachnotrons look more twisted even if their model is still Eternal inspired
Flying brain creatures. Reminds me of Duke's Octobrains and D3 Cacos. And of course, those things from Valiant (Likewise, the Mancs reminded me of Hellforged)
Shield used to block attacks (hope it can reflect them too)
Boomerang shield. Always said Doom could use a boomerang item and even be it Sentinel related
Classic imp? Is cool but i like when demons get new looks and abilities. Maybe this imp has something more going on
A weapon that shoots nails? Doom's Nail Gun?
Shield dash
The Imp fireball being charged looked green. Could mean they have a new attack type. Maybe a poison projectile, inspired by the Cursed Prowler
Said Imp is literally "nailed" to the wall
Hellknight looks like it has new details on their skin, like a bit of Giger
Demonic cyberknight, probably to keep up with Marauders and the Gladiator
Insert Castlevania reference here
You can kick too
Seems melee is reworked, so maybe no Glory Kills. I guess that would happen since you need to think of like 5 animations for each demon and maybe design them around that mechanic
A tiny thing on this demon knight's chest looks like an eye. Remember the lore for the Gladiator saying his shield had the soul of his master?
Cable connected to red part of Doomguy's armor. Different from Eternal having it light blue to open that thing in Exultia
Mech finally pilotable
Titan with melee weapon, gets punched
This location looks different, is it even the same Sentinel planet? Could be that one city on Mars before it vanished and became Mars Core's final area
Mech Dragon, background looks like a giant ribcage
Insert Panzer Dragoon reference
Also, is the thing shooting purple orbs a demonic ship?
This section also makes me wonder how much vehicle stuff will be in game or in the series in general
Wonder if this "kiss of death" is a reference to that 2014 Godzilla scene
Regardless, lots of good stuff.
It will obviously have that prequel issue of "cool new stuff that will not be addressed in the follow ups that came later" but Doom is also a series i think is fun because the setting is a mess, so at that point you start to think more of "is cool" than "is logical".
The game seems solid and it shows they did suddenly start making it after being done with TAG2, even if i still worry about the dev cycicles and think the release of a new Doom should be special. So after this game, id should calm down.
It's also lot more Sentinel focused, probably the least UAC presence in a Doom game.
A weird idea i had was if they could still use the name "Year Zero" for a small campaign with an ARC guy during Hell's invasion on Earth.
Basically, if id makes a campaign that is like half the lenght of Dark Ages (If the main game itself is also like 13 chapters) but about a UAC soldier with new weapons and cool locations on Earth, maybe that could balance the Sentinel focus due to the UAC always being more prominent.
Some say the gameplay could be closer to classic Doom, which can mean a lot because personally, i associate some of old Doom's traits with even engine stuff and also on why the new games play differently.
What matters is that the new stuff is good.
extra:
maybe the shield really is Captain America inspired
wonder if "taking inspiration from classic Doom" could mean stuff like a different working armor, since it'd suit the lore behind the Praetor suit
going back to the ARC soldier expansion idea, imagine riding a helicopter because the Slayer can ride a dragon or fighting zombie soldiers piloting tanks or mechs because you can fight zombies riding Pinkies
going back to the Manc, hope they at some point use both cannons at the same time to shoot 4 fireballs.
after an interview video from gamestop, i hope the level design really is Hexen-like
Almost forgot the zombies with shields, presumably based off the Possessed Security
The Maykr ship shooting from the sky could be Doomguy's new hub
And maybe that factory was making Atlans

Field Marshal Erwin Rommel (Colonel Bayerlein behind) talks to Sonderführer Günther Halm. 'Sonderführer' was a unique rank given to men enlisted into the army with specialist skills, hence his unique uniform.
Günther Halm was a non-commissioned officer in the Afrika Korps and the first enlisted man to receive the Knight's Cross by Rommel personally, during the 1st Battle of El Alamein in July 1942.
Nineteen-year-old Halm was manning one of two antitank guns that had been positioned so that they would be the last defense before the enemy armour could break through. The gun crew was unable to dig the gun into the rocky ground, so two gunners had to sit on the gun’s trails to absorb its recoil. Toward them roared a column of British tanks. In two minutes Halm blasted four heavy tanks. The others halted, searched for the barely concealed guns, and opened fire on them. A shell screamed between Halm’s legs. A second shell tore off his loader’s legs; another gunner took that man’s place.
Five more British tanks were shot to flames before Halm’s gun was disabled by shellfire. By that time the Twenty-first Panzer had arrived and finished off the enemy tanks. One week later Rommel personally decorated Halm with the Knight's Cross.

NATO's Nazi Background
Literally, Hitler's Chief of Staff Adolf Heusinger became the Chairman of the Military Committee for NATO from 1961-1964
Then there's one of Hitler's most infamous German Field Martials Erwin Rommel's Chief of Staff, General Hans Speidel became the Supreme Commander of NATO's Ground Forces in Central Europe from 1957-1963.
And then again from 1971 to 1975 a notorious Luftwaffe Fighter Pilot who even earned the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross, one of Nazi Germany's highest medals of honor, named Johannes Steinhoff became Chairman of NATO's Military Committee.
As if THAT wasn't enough, Johann Von Keilmansegg, who was a General Staff Officer to the High Command of the Wermacht, occupied the position of Commander in Chief of Allied Forces Central Europe from 1967-1968.
A Major in the Wermacht and Group Leader of the Organizational Department of the Supreme Command of the Wermacht from 1943-1945 and a recipient of the Iron Cross named Ernst Ferber was NATO's Commander in Chief of Allied Forces 1973-1975
And NATO's Commander in Chief of Allied Forces Central Europe from 1977-1979 was Franz Joseph Schulze who was a Lieutenant in the reserve and Chief of the 3rd Battery of the Flak Storm Regiment 241 and became a recipient of the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross in 1944.
Another Nazi, Ferdinand von Senger und Etterlin who was a Lieutenant in the 24th Panzer Division in the German 6th Army, a participant in the Battle of Stalingrad, adjutant to Army High Command, of course became NATO's Supreme Commander of Allied Forces Central Europe from 1979 to 1983.
So to make this perfectly clear; the United States who led the creation of NATO with its Allied partners the UK and France, instead of capturing, imprisoning and prosecuting in a War Crimes Tribunal like the Nuremberg Trials this list of Nazi War Criminals, these Western Imperialist Powers chose to put these Nazis in charge of NATO and its Armed Forces.
If you think the NATO of today is any different; that it wouldn't ally itself with Nazis today, like in Ukraine, then you are sorely mistaken.
Here's a couple of links if you have any doubts

1943 07 14 Kursk, Tiger s Pz Abt 505 - Andrey Zhirnov - Zvezda
http://pobeda.witebsk.by/land/epizode/505batl/
Before the 505th battalion was thrown into action, a kind of battle group was created on its basis, which received the name 21 Panzer Brigade 21. Panzer Brigade, including two divisions of assault guns 245 Sturmgeschutz Abteilung and 904 Sturmgeschutz Abteilung, as well as a sapper company. By this time, the number of "Tigers I" increased and on July 3, when the battalion entered the battle of the village of Vesely Poselok, there were already 31 of them, and the number of Pz Kpfw III tanks was reduced to 15. Without difficulty, the Tigers crossed the Oka River and occupied a new Farm, where they found several T34 / 76 tanks abandoned by their crews. Then, in the area of the village of Butyrki, Major Savant's battle group, together with the attached infantry, broke through the defenses of 676 and 81 infantry regiments. Already being in the battle formations of the 2nd Panzer Division s. Pz. Abt. 505 on July 6, near Olkhovatka at the height with the mark 274, he collided in a fierce match with Soviet tankers covering the road to Kursk. Three Tigers were lost in the battle, which lasted 24 hours. Despite the persistence and skill shown by the tankers of the unit, its commanders abandoned the futile efforts that lasted until July 10 to break through in this direction to Kursk. The arrival of the third company on July 9 did not change the situation, and in further attempts to attack, the tanks of the 505 battalion supported other units in small groups. Two weeks later, on July 25, the unit took part in the battles that held back the Soviet troops and launched a counteroffensive to Orel. EuroModels.ch The fiercest tank battle broke out near Kromy, where, after losing two Tigers in two days on August 4 and 5, about nine Soviet tanks were burned. Major Bernhard Savant, commander of s.Pz.Abt. 505, who was awarded the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves on July 28, was replaced in August by Captain von Karlowitz Hauptmann von Karlowitz. Right up to its transfer on September 16 near Smolensk, from July 10, in exhausting battles, the battalion's forces constantly melted away and its losses amounted to 16 Tigers during this time. And just before being sent to another sector of the front of Army Group Center, on September 15, the battalion commander, Captain von Karlowitz, was killed.
