It's taken me seven months to realize that I paralleled Emmet having dreams about a blurry recollection of his brother telling him to come home with Ingo having a nightmare about a distorted version of Emmet telling him that he failed entirely in Pandemonic Paradise.

They both feel like they're failing the other, but in different -- yet similar -- ways. Emmet can't come home yet, and is making his lookalike wait; Ingo failed Emmet entirely, and believes that Emmet is dead as a result of that negligence.

Both are manifestations of feeling an absence, albeit in different contexts, and both wreak a level of havoc on their recipient's mindset.

I reiterate, this was unintentional. The things I realize at three in the morning sometimes, man.

Happy 1-year anniversary to the start of Emmet's terrible, no-good, very bad day(s).

Which is to say, Pandemonic Paradise turned a year old today!

In honor of this vague occasion, I have attempted backgrounds, of all terrible, no-good, very bad things (help me).

So I did some looking, and apparently it seems that the Distortion World is dark blue in the games and purple in the anime. I never played D/P/P, and only watched one of the animated movies probably close to a decade ago (ough), so my brain just assumed lots of purple.

Anyway, this was fun! RIP planned Ingo companion piece, there is no way you'll be finished by the end of the day, sorry.

Thank you all for sticking with this extremely self-indulgent fic for a year! We're almost at the end as of chapter 7, and hopefully I can finish the fic before the end of summer.

I think my main issue with Dazai's writing in V and my main issue with his writing in VV are largely the same but also different. In V, I hated how abrupt that heelturn was, but like... I could almost justify it. I could almost write it off as Abdiel's control over him, and his desperation to protect in a fucked up Law alignment way. It still isn't GOOD by any means, but I have to jump through less hoops to not hate him as a character. In VV, that heelturn is there but even LESS justified. I think the lack of the Pandemonic Summit and the political drama of the Nahobino defying the condemnation (which is why I still think that it should have been in Vengeance, in some manner, and that should've been where the Tsukuyomi Nahobino should have showed himself -- you know in V, how Koshimizu stands up to Abdiel in the way that makes you like the Chaos route more than Law? Yeah. imagine that but the Nahobino, unfused to reveal it's Tsukuyomi who defied the condemnation, the ultimate act of spitting in Abdiel's face) really works against Vengeance's story. I don't dislike it, obviously but Abdiel and Dazai feel like even LESS of characters here. And I know why. They aren't really needed for Law anymore. The Law vs Chaos dynamic is better in Vengeance, sure, but now it's between the originally unaligned Tao Isonokami and the new Yoko Hiromine -- for the large part, the previously Chaos Yuzuru and Koshimizu become Law aligned. They largely want what Tao wants, a preserved and idealized Tokyo. it's done in a way that does not feel disingenuous to their characters, and doesn't feel like it's shuffling things too much. But now there are a lot of characters who are law aligned. And the chaos alignment is just a little bit too radical for someone like Abdiel or Dazai. So where does that leave them? It falls apart pretty easily. Abdiel and Dazai really have no grounds to stand on. They want law, but without Abdiel being willing to become a Nahobino (which I actually surprisingly think is more true to her character, I do not think she was pushed hard enough to justify becoming a Nahobino and defying the condemnation in V) and without their stance being more overtly "I hate the Nahobino and wish for them all to be purged", they aren't really left with a proper place in the story. In the least fucked up way possible, I think they should have been killed off as shock value rather than allowed to stifle as bad characters in the story. It would've added fuel to the fire of either alignment, and also not allowed Abdiel and Dazai to suffer from the writing disease of "I don't know what to do with these characters so I'll just make them Bad".

First ship: I can't remember, honestly. I feel like it was probably Meta Knight/Garlude from Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, though, if it wasn't Link/Zelda -- at the very least, those are the first ships that I can remember actually making ship material for.

Last song: That I listened to? Either "Victorian Vigilante" by Abney Park, or "Shikabane No Ordori (Corpse Dance)" by Kikuo. I just can't remember which, exactly, it was.

Last movie: Good night I have no idea. Uhhhhhh probably the second Incredibles movie a few years back? I've been meaning to hunt The Girl Who Leapt Through Time down at some point to rewatch for the nth time, though.

Currently reading: A lot of fics. Nearly all of them are Pokemon fics, and the only reason I'm not done reading most of them is because they're still being written.

Currently writing: A lot of things, but especially:

I Told You So, a Pokemon fanfiction from the point of view of Sabi, wherein a lot of people get thrown into Hisui, Sabi gets adopted by one of them, and anxiously gets to foresee Many Things happening

Pandemonic Paradise, another Pokemon fanfiction that is a spinoff of Welcome to Sinnoh's Temple, another fic of mine; it's basically me being especially mean to the characters

Little Stray Feathers, an ongoing Kirby fic that is slowly being shoved towards completion at a snail's pace -- but that I am determined to finish -- which focuses on Galacta Knight futilely resisting his slow descent into being a good broody-bantam-knight dad to a small, traumatized Meta Knight

All of these fics feature hefty amounts of found family because I am weak for that trope.
