Yorke has justified this as a means of altering the canvas, changing the shadows and light to stress the details others could easily be distracted by. He had no intentions of hiding her, but he needed to ensure she could settle easily into their expectations laced with intricate standard. Yorke even caught himself on them from time to time.

"They've got a theme for tonight's dinner." Not necessarily untrue, a veiled lie. "We just have to stay until they're done serving, and then we can get out of there. We can change and go somewhere else or right back to my place, whatever you want."

"I feel like a clown," Astrid sighed as she looked at herself in the mirror in the dress that Yorke had gotten for her. While she knew his family, she'd never met them as his girlfriend before. And knowing just how concerned they were with appearances made her nervous for this dinner. So Yorke offered to help, make sure she gave the perfect first impression. But the red dress she wore felt so out of her comfort zone. "Are you sure I can't just weird something I already own?"

Connecticut isn't as far as he hoped, but as long as they're away from his hometown and the city that never sleeps where all his neighbors flee to he's willing to compromise. What started as a hope, a quiet little prayer he hadn't ever paid much mind to, was now proving fruitful.

"As long as you're with me, doesn't matter how far from home we go," Lee agreed. It was the closest he'd get to admitting aloud, so simply, that he'd forget the ties to his childhood with time. He had to. If he stayed, he would drown in the routine tailored to shield him.

Pulling her close again, returned to the very same intoxication that drove him to confess to his intentions of getting out. "Tell me about all of the places you want to go, even all the things you've done. I've been told my whole life change isn't any good. You think you can prove them all wrong?"

"I'll go anywhere with you." She confesses softly, continuing to curl close to him. She watches him, still feeling the stress and the tenseness in him. "Except maybe the midwest, I worked hard to get away from there. But anywhere else. We could go to Mystic, and we could do our best Connecticut accents. I'll wear Lily Pulitzers and you can talk about sailboats. Wherever you want to go, I'll go."

Going away would be nice; after all, the pizza spot she liked was going viral, which meant it would be assuaged with trendy girls checking in on the hype. She brushed her lips to his temple again, "No one has to know what we do." She mumbles softly, using her free hand to run her fingers through his gorgeous blonde hair. "But you have to tell me, what can I do tonight to make you feel just a little bit better."

He had been favored for how willingly he was to adhere to every rule, and how loyal he was to it. All he wanted now was to prove he wouldn't break away when he was outside of their bounds. Harleen's doubts had yet to plague his musings, all too caught up in the idea of running away. "It depends on what we want to do. We can start over or we can just have what we need away from all of this. Even if it's for a little while, we should get away from it all, though I don't think I'd come back."

"And what are we supposed to do when we get wherever we are going?" Harleen asked as she felt that he wasn't really thinking this through. "Are we just supposed to start over completely somewhere else?"
