So today on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), we will be talking about the latest CMT (Country Music Television) special to honor the Legendary band Alabama. This show took place on CMT on Thursday August the 15th, 2024 at 8pm EST (Eastern Standard Time). So let's see who played what to honor Alabama.
Set list. Sam Hunt - Song of the South. Jason Aldean - Love in the first degree. Old Dominion - Roll on (Eighteen wheeler) Little Big Town (LBT) - The closer you get. Brad Paisley - Ol' Alabama. Blake Shelton, Steve Wariner, & Kara Britz - Old flame. Lorrie Morgan & Pam Tillis - Feels so right. Riley Green - Dixieland delight. Jamey Johnson - Angels among us. Alabama - My home's in Alabama. Alabama - Mountain music.
And that's a wrap for what they played for us. And the stand out performance would have to be Jamey Johnson's. That is such a tough song to play, and he really did a great job. And on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would give this special a 4 out of 5 stars. I grew up listening to Alabama's music. And it is my Brother's favorite band as well. I felt like they did well on this and giving us at least a two-hour special to honor them. Thanks for taking the time to read this review. See ya all next time.

The Importance of Handwriting is Becoming Better Understood! Research on Pens and Paper Highlights Their Benefits
— September 14th, 2023
Tumblr media
A Person's Hand, Writing with a Pen that has a Lightbulb on the End. Image: Nick Lowndes
Two and a Half Millennia Ago, Socrates complained that writing would harm students. With a way to store ideas permanently and externally, they would no longer need to memorise. It is tempting to dismiss him as an old man complaining about change. Socrates did not have a stack of peer-reviewed science to make his case about the usefulness of learning concepts by heart.
Today a different debate is raging about the dangers of another technology—computers—and the typing people do on them. As primary-school pupils and Ph.D hopefuls return for a new school year in the northern hemisphere, many will do so with a greater-than-ever reliance on computers to take notes and write papers. Some parents of younger students are dismayed that their children are not just encouraged but required to tote laptops to class. University professors complain of rampant distraction in classrooms, with students reading and messaging instead of listening to lectures.
A line of research shows the benefits of an “innovation” that predates computers: handwriting. Studies have found that writing on paper can improve everything from recalling a random series of words to imparting a better conceptual grasp of complicated ideas.
For learning material by rote, from the shapes of letters to the quirks of English spelling, the benefits of using a pen or pencil lie in how the motor and sensory memory of putting words on paper reinforces that material. The arrangement of squiggles on a page feeds into visual memory: people might remember a word they wrote down in French class as being at the bottom-left on a page, par exemple.
One of the best-demonstrated advantages of writing by hand seems to be in superior note-taking. In a study from 2014 by Pam Mueller and Danny Oppenheimer, students typing wrote down almost twice as many words and more passages verbatim from lectures, suggesting they were not understanding so much as rapidly copying the material.
Handwriting—which takes longer for nearly all university-level students—forces note-takers to synthesise ideas into their own words. This aids conceptual understanding at the moment of writing. But those taking notes by hand also perform better on tests when students are later able to study from their notes. The effect even persisted when the students who typed were explicitly instructed to rephrase the material in their own words. The instruction was “completely ineffective” at reducing verbatim note-taking, the researchers note: they did not understand the material so much as parrot it.
Many studies have confirmed handwriting’s benefits, and policymakers have taken note. Though America’s “Common Core” curriculum from 2010 does not require handwriting instruction past first grade (roughly age six), about half the states since then have mandated more teaching of it, thanks to campaigning by researchers and handwriting supporters. In Sweden there is a push for more handwriting and printed books and fewer devices. England’s national curriculum already prescribes teaching the rudiments of cursive by age seven.
However, several school systems in America have gone so far as to ban most laptops. This is too extreme. Some students have disabilities that make handwriting especially hard. Nearly all will eventually need typing skills. And typing can improve the quality of writing: being able to get ideas down quickly, before they are forgotten, can obviously be beneficial. So can slowing down the speed of typing, says Dr. Oppenheimer.
Virginia Berninger, Emeritus Professor of Psychology at the University of Washington, is a longtime advocate of handwriting. But she is not a purist; she says there are research-tested benefits for “manuscript” print-style writing, for cursive (which allows greater speed) but also for typing (which is good practice for composing passages). Since students spend more time on devices as they age, she argues for occasional “tuning up” of handwriting in later school years.
And perhaps even into adulthood. Johnson had not handwritten anything longer than a letter in decades before putting actual pen to paper to write this column’s first draft. Whether it made any difference to the outcome is a question that readers must decide.
Socrates may or may not have had a point about the downsides of writing. But no one would remember, much less care, if his student Plato had not noted it down for the benefit of posterity.■

Ode to the Dells
It feels like summer
yet also feels a little like fall
What a gift
a gentle, cooling breeze can be
Green leaves softly sway back & forth
against a backdrop of birds chirping,
chasing one another across a slightly cloudy, gorgeous sky
They call out to one another
and it’s almost like they beckon me to join them
I would gladly glide through the clouds with them
perch on the branches of those peacefully swaying trees
and call out to more beings to join us in this humble,
yet breathtaking delight
Down below me, a squirrel
scurries across the patio, ready to play and chase and eat
How I wish I might join him
and play and chase and eat all day
to climb trees to the highest heights and to enjoy the fruits and nuts and yummy deliciousness
that nature has to offer us
The soothing smell of the lake wafts by on the breeze
And I take a deep inhale
I watch the ducks glide through the water, the boats languidly go by
And I feel like I’m part of a grand secret
As if every living force around me has invited me out to fly, to climb, to glide
to enjoy the gifts that this beautiful landscape has extended to us
And I join them, willingly
eager to learn, to grow, to be
one with all that’s around me
On a deep, calming breath
I relax into all that is being freely given to me this day
What a gift the simplest things can be

Commissions
Hello everyone! I know it has been a while, but I hope you are all well.
I’m happy to be here with everyone, but I have an ulterior motive (and I apologize for this being my comeback post). Recently, there was a fire in my sister’s neighborhood and it spread to her house.
Why is this important?
Due to the fire spreading, my sister’s house took a lot of damage. With damage comes (expensive!!) costs to repair the building and replace furniture. Fortunately, no one was in the house at the time of the fire and my sister is safe.
To help my sister out, I am opening commissions where all profits go to her. As long as the rules are followed, I will be writing something personal for you! Down below, my rules, what I refuse to write, fandoms I write for, what I will write, and costs.
Here is the link to our Cash App for all purchases or donations. - Pay $LittleButterflyWrites
Note: Anyone who has made a request before the date of me posting this (07/02/2024) will get their requests free of charge as originally intended before my unannounced hiatus.
This is available until July 30th, (07/30/2024), so please act fast since I'm not sure if I'll open them again! Read more if you're interested!
Rules *read and approved by my sister
I have the right to refuse any request. Respect my final decision and read what I will not write for before making a request.
Refunds will only be available 24 hours after you place the order. If you do not tell/ask for a refund within 24 hours of your transaction, I will write what you requested and you will  NOT get your money back.
Before making a request, please consult with me about what you want for your writing. See below on how to request. This makes things easier in case I am unable to fulfill/accept a request, AND it prevents you, the buyer, from spending money before you get an answer.
If you want any changes to the details, let me know within 24 hours of talking to me.
If you request for a character letter, you will have to give PROOF OF PERMISSION by an adult if you are a minor. You will also have to be comfortable with giving me your address.
If I find that you request anything NSFW as a minor, you will be BLOCKED AND REPORTED. I will reject your request and you will get your money back.
What Do You Refuse To Write?
Dub/non-con
Incest
Hate towards another group of people (race, orientation, gender, etc.)
Beastiality/Zoophilia
Pedophilia
I will NOT write NSFW for certain characters. Said characters will be in a bracketed list after their name. (example: [Character] = no NSFW). The NSFW list of characters will always be BEFORE the NO NSFW character list.
Anything I am not comfortable writing. Again, I reserve the right to refuse any request. If you are unsure and need clarification, please message me with questions.

So saw this as post it seems to be about Materialists as it’s a certain cApS blog :
“You are seeing ABSURD coverage on a film , that won't even release international and it's being posted internationally during the filming and you still don't get what's coming VERY SOON? “
My reading comprehension must be f up because:
“Sony Pictures has bought international rights to “Materialists,” Celine Song’s follow up to “Past Lives” which is nominated for best picture and original screenplay at the Oscars. The worldwide deal for “Materlialists” excludes certain territories.
A24 will handle the U.S. release of “Materialists” which Song will write, direct and produce alongside 2Am and Killer Films. Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal are in talks to star.
The deal for the package was negotiated by Sony Pictures’ Joe Matukewicz, president of worldwide acquisitions and his team Virginia Longmuir, EVP of business affairs, Katie Anderson, VP of worldwide or acquisitions, Elan Kovo, VP of business development brought the package to the studio. Deadline was first to report news of the sale.”
And
“we can reveal that Sony Pictures has boarded another of the European Film Market’s most in-demand projects: Past Lives director Celine Song’s next movie, Materialists, which A24 is selling.
In what we understand to be an eight-figure deal, Sony has taken all of international excluding Russia, China and Japan. A24 will handle the U.S. release.
Coming off the Oscar Best Picture nominee Past Lives, Song’s next movie is a rom-com which is attracting A-list talent. Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal are in talks to star.
Past Lives producers Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler of Killer Films and 2Am’s David Hinojosa are behind the movie, which Song also scripts and produces. The team is aiming to start as early as this spring’
And
Sony Pictures Television [US] – (2024) - World-wide - All media
A24 [US] – United States-Theatrical
Stage 6 Films [US] – (2024) - Non-US - All media
VVS Films [CA] – (2024) - Canada - All Media
Definitely look like it’s going to be released international.🙄
No one ever said she was smart lmao 🧜🏻‍♀️

Today in Great Lakes shipping history, May 8th
2023 : remembrances continue to pour in for the Edmund Fitzgerald and Gordon Lightfoot.
‘The ship sank all over again’: Families of victims in wreck recall Gordon Lightfoot
Tumblr media
Darren Muljo was in elementary school when his teacher asked the students in his class to pick a song they wanted to learn to play.
Muljo, now 52, chose the 1976 song “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” by legendary Canadian folk musician Gordon Lightfoot.
Muljo’s mother, Cheryl Rozman, first introduced him to the six-minute-long folk ballad, which chronicles the demise of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The ship sank in Lake Superior near Whitefish Point, Mich., during a storm on Nov. 10, 1975. All 29 crewmen on board died.
One of those men was Muljo’s grandfather, Ransom Cundy, a watchman on the ship.
At the time, Muljo was too young to fully understand the significance of the song for the families. But in the years since, it has cemented a bond between them that has lasted decades.
“Gordon Lightfoot’s imprint on the healing process for the families cannot be (overstated), especially when he made it a point to develop a personal connection with many of them,” Muljo said in a phone interview from Melbourne, Fla.
As word got out of Lightfoot’s death Monday, relatives of the ship’s crew began reaching out by phone and social media to share stories of the singer-songwriter, whom many referred to as an honorary family member.
“When I first heard the news, it went through me like the ship sank all over again,” Deborah Champeau said by phone from Nashotah, Wis.
“Gordon is a part of our family. I really respected what he stood for and that he took the time and the effort to spend time with us.”
Champeau was 17 when her father died. Oliver (Buck) Champeau was a third assistant engineer on the Great Lakes ore freighter.
Lightfoot sent a letter to Deborah Champeau offering his sympathies and explained that he wrote the song to shed light on the lack of safety measures in place for vessels at that time and the consequences that can come from that.
“It was very hard in the beginning to listen to the words,” said Champeau, 65.
“Through the years I have embraced it, and I’m glad he did write it and took the time to bring that awareness.”
Lightfoot would often read newspapers and watch newscasts, which provided fodder for his deeply autobiographical storytelling.
He was inspired to write “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” after reading a Newsweek article.
Though some elements of the song deviated from the disaster, Lightfoot was adamant in writing lyrics as accurate as could be.
It was also important to him to speak with surviving family members.
Muljo’s mother was initially upset when she first caught wind about the song. This changed after she listened to it and came to understand the respect and honour in which Lightfoot portrayed the men and that perilous night, said Muljo.
Lightfoot would go on to form a personal connection with the families that resulted in a number of visits over the last half-century and unlimited access to backstage passes at his concerts.
Pam Johnson, 71, met Lightfoot about 10 times.
Johnson reached out to the singer shortly after the song came out. She was living in Germany when her mom called to say Lightfoot had written a song about the wreck. Her father, Robert Rafferty, was a cook on the ship.
Johnson was at a club with her husband when she first heard the track.
“It was emotional for me,” she said. “It’s a privilege and an honour for a man of his talent to speak of my dad. I’ve always been proud of that.”
In 2015, Lightfoot joined families at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Whitefish Point for the 40th anniversary of the shipwreck.
Corey Adkins, content director for the museum, recalled Lightfoot arriving a day early to enjoy some quiet time with the families.
The museum is home to the ship’s 90-kilogram bronze bell, which was recovered in 1995. Lightfoot’s song can be heard as visitors take in the exhibit.
Adkins said the song opened the door for other stories to be told.
“That song did a lot for the maritime community, as far as shipwrecks and remembering people who perished on shipwrecks go.”
Champeau is preparing for a more sombre anniversary at Whitefish Point this year but said the legend lives on — referencing the first line of the song that immortalized the crew.
“Boy, there’s a hell of a concert going on up in heaven. The men are waiting to embrace him.”
