y/n smiled softly as she pulled on her second boot, watching as Jessie hummed to herself while she pulled on her jacket, the young Canadian excited to go for her evening walk with her girlfriend.
The two couldn't be more different from each other, Jessie was short, sweet, and a happy looking girl with a gorgeous smile - which was what drew y/n in.
y/n was tall, curved, dark and almost scary looking from how her dark eyes were always cold and narrowed - people crossed the street to avoid passing her.
If seen together the two would look almost comical. Jessie in her blue shorts and grey hoodie, holding her coffee mug with a wide grin. y/n in her black jeans, fishnets and leather jacket.
y/n's hair was slicked back in her usual shag, and her lips were painted their usual dark colour as she held out her hand to Jessie who happily took it.
Jessie let y/n lock their apartment then skipped happily down toward the doors, y/n's hands swinging in hers as the tall woman easily kept up with her excitable girlfriend's skips.
Jessie and y/n passed one of their usual neighbours and the man chuckled at them as Jessie happily said 'hello' and y/n just nodded, watching as her girlfriend sighed in relief as they stepped into the city air.
"We'll walk to the park and back?" y/n offered to Jessie who nodded, happily taking her hand tighter as she wraps around y/n's arm. Sighing in relief as the taller woman wrapped her arm around Jessie's shoulder and brought her into her side.
"I've been thinking." Jessie begins softly.
"Oh no, that is never good." y/n chuckles and Jessie rolls her eyes, giggling as she nudges y/n with her hip.
"Shut up." Jessie hums. "I'm thinking about telling people, like about us." She continues and y/n smiles.
"Okay." y/n nods and Jessie looks up grinning.
"Really?" She asks and y/n nods. "Great." Jessie smiles.
y/n and Jessie had been together over a year. The main reason no one had figured it out was because y/n was a managing director and designer for a newer fashion company.
The company had taken off and y/n was now in charge of a team of 200 people instead of 20 when she first started the company with her friend over three years ago.
The few TikTok's her employees had managed to get her in people loved her, for her style and her youth, her humour and her sarcasm, but usually, y/n was just too busy to deal with the younger people's fun.
Some footballers had worn some of their clothes, though their main collab was with the Manchester City girls, which Jessie didn't forgive for a week.
However, occasionally someone would clock Jessie wearing some jeans from their 'Hopeless Blues' collection, or a top from their 'Fruity colours and quotes' one.
Though no one had expected it and therefore paired it up, with the main office being in Manchester, y/n could assume why people thought she worked there.
y/n had stopped to grab her and Jessie juice, paying the stall man with a smile she could see Jessie on her phone, but y/n assumed she was taking a selfie.
She walked over, mind running through the four meetings she had tomorrow, always finding their walks helpful to plan out her work day ahead for the next day.
"Thank you baby!" Jessie smiles, posting the video without much of a thought.
"Of course." y/n smiles, pecking Jessie's lips before the two continue their walk.
As they walked neither checked their vibrating phones, so neither saw the reaction to Jessie's video about her guard dog boyfriend - in trend with the Babushka song - going viral.
As the two continued walking a group of teenage boys walked past, rolling their eyes as the group snickered at the slurs they threw at the two.
"Fags honestly."
"Lesbos."
"Can I watch?"
"What did you just say?" y/n asks, turning to face the group, the three teenagers suddenly becoming very still and shocked.
"Well, we..." One of them tries.
"Think it's funny, hurling words you don't understand the meaning of because you see two girls holding hands?" y/n asks.
"Well..." one of them tries again.
"Think it's funny that you kids won't ever get respect from others outside of the level of people with two braincells because you think being homophobic is funny?" y/n asks them.
Their eyes had widened comically now, y/n was nothing short of scary when she needed to be, and despite having a 5ft 3 girl still connected to her hand, her point had clearly got through.
"Do better." y/n tells them angrily, before rolling her eyes and turning back to Jessie. "You okay baby?" y/n asks and Jessie can't help but smile as she leans up and kisses her girlfriend.
"As long as I have you baby." Jessie smiles before they continue their walk, leaving three sheepish boys behind them.

"Babe!" y/n called out, a small snort falling from her lips as she hears Jessie's feet run across the apartment, y/n's eyes glued to her phone screen as she stops typing on her laptop.
"Yes?" Jessie asks as she sticks her head around the corner with a wide grin. "Wait, are you working?" Jessie asks. "Babe!" She huffs.
"I know, I know, I'm coming to watch the movie baby, I promise." y/n says trying to calm the Canadian down.
"It's half eight! Just put the laptop away." Jessie whines. "You said you were going to shower." She adds.
"And I did, hair all washed, see?" y/n tries. "I just thought I could get a quick email in about tomorrow's presentation." y/n tries but Jessie huffs and folds her arms.
"You always do this when we have our nights together." Jessie says, a pout on her lips as she fiddles with her hoodie. "I just wanna spend time with you." She adds and y/n sighs.
Jessie pouts and y/n groans, throwing her phone on the side and shutting her laptop. Jessie's eyes sparkle with victory as y/n walks over, arms wrapping around Jessie to hoist her onto her hips.
"Weeeee." Jessie says quietly, smiling as y/n sits on the bed, bringing Jessie onto her lap so she can connect their lips.
"I'm sorry I'm a work-aholic. But this company is my baby." y/n sighs.
"And you have done, still do and will do an amazing job, as long as you are able to take a break and give love to your adorable girlfriend." Jessie states.
"I can definitely do that last part." y/n smiles, leaning forward and pressing multiple pecks along Jessie's face, the footballer laughing as y/n's fingers dig into her sides.
Jessie jerks to the side, squealing in shock at being tickled, she tries to scramble away but y/n chuckles and uses her long legs to roll them, so she could stay on Jessie and keep tickling.
Jessie's squeals had now turned into breathless laughs, occasional begs to stop as y/n watched with an evil grin as tears of joy raced down Jessie's cheeks.
"Okay, okay, I'm done." y/n promises, holding her hands up as Jessie lets out a huff of relief, glaring at her lover who chuckles.
y/n grins and leans forward, pressing several kisses to Jessie's lips, each one longer than the last, Jessie humming happily into the physical attention she was receiving.
"Also, guard dog, really?" y/n asks Jessie who giggles. y/n rolls her eyes but stands up, Jessie scrambling after and attaching herself to y/n's front, legs curled around her hips.
"Yes, really, you're my guard dog." Jessie states and y/n huffs but says nothing as she sits down on the sofa, bringing Jessie to the side of her.
Just as the two go to begin their movie, there is a series of rapid knocks on the door and y/n groans, pressing her lips to Jessie's cheek before moving to the door and ripping it open.
A determined Sam Kerr shrieks at how quick the door opens and her jaw drops as she looks up at the tall woman in front of her trying to figure out her height.
"Fuck you're tall." Sam says in shock.
"What do you want?" y/n asks her, confused as to why she had turned up.
"Um, my friend admits she has a girlfriend I haven't met on TikTok and you thought you could have a quiet night in?" Sam asks and y/n sighs, running a hand over her face.
"She's in the living room." y/n explains and Sam storms in, y/n shutting the door rather firmly.
"JESSIE FLEMING." Sam's shout rings and y/n chuckles at that. She may have never met Sam before, but she could already tell they would get on.
"Babe! Help!" Jessie calls and y/n sighs, walking back to her girlfriend where Sam sat on her, hands trying to tickle at the giggling girl's sides.
y/n's shoulders roll back and she reaches over and pull Sam from her girlfriend, throwing the footballer onto the other sofa and falling next to Jessie.
The Canadian grins widely and scuttles into y/n's lap Sam watching with wide shocked eyes.
"You're a strong'un." Sam states.
"She's mine to touch Kerr. You lay off." y/n warns and Sam snorts in shock as Jessie presses a kiss to y/n's cheek.
"Sam, meet my girlfriend/guard dog y/n. y/n meet one of my closest friend's Sam." Jessie explains and y/n chuckles.
"Pleasure to meet you Kerr." y/n smiles, leaning over to shake Sam's hand, her other arm wrapping around Jessie to keep her stable on her lap.
"I so need you to fight Millie!" Sam grins and y/n laughs.
"Look forward to it." She nods.

Perhaps the red dress you wore to the office party was a tad proactive. The silk draped across every curve of your body as if you were statuesque. It did not feature cleavage nor was it too short. But you knew he liked undressing you in his imagination first.
Felix had not touched you in two months.
Without a word, he stopped calling you into his office on his lunch break. The small brush of his fingers against the small of your back on the way to a meeting. The press of his lips to the back of your neck in the elevator. Your eyes fluttered closed at the thought he would do it again.
Entering the conference room turned party space you were one of the last to arrive. Many of your coworkers already held half drunken glasses of wine and the cheese plate was sans half a row of cheddar.
You shrugged off your coat, the full expanse of your collarbones exposed with only the small straps of the dress interrupting the view. Grabbing a red, you took a large gulp, the wine matching the color of your painted lips.
"Y/N! Glad you could make it."
You turned to see the reason for the party, Hwang Hyunjin. He was moving across the country and leaving the company. Having worked for Felix's company from almost the very beginning, the CEO of Lee Enterprises spared no expenses to send off his most valued employee right.
"Of course, Hyune," you said, reaching out to hug the tall man. "I wouldn't miss it. You were a godsend my first month here."
Hyunjin laughed, bumping your hip. "You were like a scared little fawn."
You looked sideways tossing your head back with a half scoff, half chuckle. "You act like I was a baby."
"But you wereeee," Hyunjin said, his tone already whiny and dramatic that you assumed he was already on his second glass of wine. "So young and so cute. Never worked in an office before."
You blushed. "You're ridiculous." You gently swatted Hyunjin's bicep. He didn't look particularly muscular, but his arm still felt solid.
"Sending Hyunjin off well?" a familiar deep voice said.
Your boss and the CEO of the company approached. He'd gone back to a more natural look with his hair looking more chocolate brown. It had been a few weeks since the change, but you'd rarely gotten a chance to see him up close in that time.
The color made the freckles sprinkled across his face shine brighter. You remember counting them once in the afterglow, his lips kissing the inside of your wrist.
It always felt so intimate with Felix. Even when it was rough. His fingertips bruised and then kneaded, his mouth nipped at your skin and then whispered in your ear how beautiful you are. Sex with Felix was as thrilling as whiplash and as gentle as grass sweeping across your calves.
"Of course," you said. "I have to make sure my work husband knows how much I'll miss him." You chuckled and Hyunjin let a less enthusiastic one. It wasn't like him to deny your close friendship, but when you looked up, you noticed the hard look in Felix's eyes.
Felix still managed to give a disingenuous smile as he reached for another glass of champagne.
"You certainly will be missed, Hyunjin." His gaze flicked to you. It felt so white hot you couldn't return it and ended up looking downward at his leather Chelsea boots.
"Y/N," Felix said. "Do you have a moment? There's actually something from a client I want to go over with you."
You looked up and met his eyes. You agreed and began to follow him to his office. Murmurs persisted as you left, but they had nothing to do with a sexual relationship.

While some--like Hyunjin--had caught on to the true nature of your relationship with the CEO, most had not. Felix was good at being discreet and quick when he needed to be.
When you reached his office, he shut the door and turned on the light. The blinds were already down as they usually were when he left. You heard the lock of the door engage and it made your head pop up.
"Why--" You began to ask.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" he asked, moving closer to you until your thighs pressed against the edge of his desk.
"I don't know what you mean."
"Wearing that dress, flirting with Hyunjin, is this because I haven't fucked you lately?"
"I-I wasn't flirting with Hyunjin. He's just one of my best friends."
Felix didn't care for the answer, his eyelids lowering slightly and his mouth forming a disappointed 'O'. He gently moves your hair behind your shoulders, exposing your neck and all the way down to your breasts strained against the top of the dress.

A bemused look crossed your features and Felix's eyes widened. He truly didn't think you loved him back? It wasn't just about how he fucked you. You fell for him because of the way he remembered your coffee order, whenever he texted you to make sure you got home from work safely, or when he saw your humble apartment for the first time and remarked on how much he liked it because it reminded him of you.

My local Walmart didn’t have any more Pixlings from the first wave of the Magic Mixies Pixlings, but they did have the Walmart Exclusive Flitta. I did not take a photo, but her potion bottle looks the same as Unia’s except it has imbedded glitter in both the gem and the handle (and has a completely different butterfly design on the thin plastic covering the potion bottle). Both have removable shoes and skirts (which are nicely detailed -better quality IMO than what Chelsea and the Enchantimals are wearing) but a bit hard to take off due to how tight the elastic is.

Their faces look very similar. Unia’s might be lightly wider than Flitta’s, and Unia has sculpted eyebrows, while Flitta does not. Their ears look to share the same base, with Flitta’s being added to at the base (and I love all the little butterfly wing details they gave her ears). Flitta has a little bit of product in her hair, but washed out easy enough and left her hair as soft as Unia’s. Both Unia and Flitta look like fae background characters to one of the animated Barbie movies. :)

Aaaaand their profiles. They might have different noses?
And a close up of Flitta’s make-up. She still has lightly pixelated screening (except for her lips). With her cute butterfly make-up reminding me of RH Poppy’s. She also has a very cute and unique hair style.

Now for her wings:

They’re a softer/rubbery like plastic with imbedded sparkles. They might look nice with some painted detail, but otherwise, it’s not too bad as a solid colored piece compared to her multi-colored outfit.

She has a sculpted on outfit (which I’m still not over the moon about - but I appreciate how detailed it is and how they painted it). I also like that her arms are not covered in “long sleeves,” unlike Unia, and thus her little hands’ paint will not peel off like some of the finger tips of my Unia are already starting to do.
Now for comparisons to other (mostly) butterfly/moth dolls.

Both Luna and Bonita are much larger than Flitta and have the typical G1 Monster High articulation, removable clothes, and VERY detailed bodies. Luna is one of my favorite Monster High dolls, so I kinda prefer her over Flitta, but Flitta tries her best to stand out with these ghouls.

She’s so tiny! It’s fun to see how these different doll companies took the moth/butterfly concept. They all have different antenna and way different wing structures. Luna and Flitta both have pointed ears, while Bonita has no ears. Flitta thinks I need to compare her to some one more her size.

“Well, that’s a little better… ….what and who are these long lost cousins?” G2 Monster High’s Garden Ghouls: Beetrice, Wingrid, and Lumina. They are the teensie and shorter than Flitta and unfortunately have rubber and plastic (removable) clothing and I believe poly hair. They are much more difficult to pose compared to Flitta, due to their rubbery clothing and limited movement. They can only rotate their arms around (like an old school Barbie), and they can not lift their head up and down. They do have detailed bodies though.
They look like they might have had some cute potential, but we’re nerfed last minute towards the end of G2’s run (I had to order Beetrice online and, besides Treesa, never saw any of the other Garden Ghouls in store).

Anyways, the last Mattel doll I wanted to compare her to is Belisse Butterfly:

…which I don’t have… Enchantimals and Pixlings are very similar in size, both have removable skirts and shoes and limited articulation. Flitta has a bit more articulation than Belisse, and a much more detailed outfit/shoes and molded on clothing, ears and make-up.
I find it funny they have similar shaped antenna. …I still think I prefer Flitta’s concept and execution compared to Belisse….and her chubby butterfly Dart.
Here is a fun comparison, another Moose Toys product: Buddykins the Zelf:

“I love your sparkly outfit! Do you want to fly around the house knocking down all the dust bunnies off the shelves???”
“Do I ever!” Flitta really seems to take to Buddykins. Like I said in my Unia review, the Zelfs and Pixlings look very compatible with each other; like they are two different species of fae in the same world….or long lost cousins on the family tree.
These two butterflies have very similar shaped antenna (they might be a reused model….?) and their wings feel like they are made from the same material (which also has glitter inside of too).

Before I could get more photos of the two, they both flew off to chase some dust bunnies.

All in all, I really like Flitta (she gives me mischievous fairy vibes and I love it) and I still really love the Pixling line so far….despite the molded on clothes, lack of knee joint and their large potion bottles that a younger me would have loved but older me could do with out.

jennifer pierce expected the best of her children. she gave them the best so of course they had to return the favor. she had inherited her father’s business, and was excelling so much her husband took her last name. it wasn’t a feminist thing, but a money thing you see. alethea grew up without a want, but the truth of the matter is she never knew what she wanted. her mother made those decisions. from what she wore, to how she cut her hair, to who her friends were and what activities did. her entire life was planned to a t, and alethea never questioned a moment of it. how do you question something that you didn’t know was an option?
her brother jacob was doted on, and grew up with a grin and popularity. this was easy to him. this was painful for alethea. she smiled and waved, and the only matters of relief she found were in her ballet classes. going professional hadn’t been her mother’s first plan, but seeing the natural talent her daughter was, and just how feminine she was, allowed this small change in the over all path forward.
jennifer and carl met at ogden, and she knew that was where her children were to go. there was no exception, and jennifer would do whatever needed for her kids to follow her legacy. the major was flexible, but they would go to ogden, they would find suitable spouses, and they would carry on the family legacy. it was picture perfect, and she never heard a single word of complaint from either of her children. 
AND ALL THE TABLES HAVE BEEN TURNED BY ME:
growing up without decisions meant college was terrifying for alethea. she had to pick her classes, find friends that her mother couldn’t approve of, and suddenly had free time that wasn’t planned out for her? it was paralyzing. but during the second week of classes greer spotted alethea across the way and took her under her wing. she showed her what the world could be, and she still fit under that approval from jennifer pierce. greer wasn’t just her best friend, but she was a bit of a savior for her.
this whole time there has been a gnawing in her chest. a desire for freedom, a petition to let the real alethea out and run free. but who was she? alethea couldn’t answer that, not honestly. just who her mother had manufactured her to be. but this confusion, this shyness, this quietness played into a different picture of alethea. it allowed her to be whatever anyone wanted her to be, they could paint their own ideas of her. she could be mysterious, she could be all they ever wanted. and she could be a dream.
and it was through this exploration that alethea slowly stepped out of the pillars her mother had built for her. first came the time greer dared her to kiss another girl during spin the bottle, and alethea realized that she might have enjoyed it more than her mother would have liked. and then came the time greer put her in a suit instead of a dress, and she liked the way it looked on her. and that maybe she wasn’t a girl after all, but something that could be shed. and so they started to pick up new pieces of theirself, putting them together to form a whole new journey. was ballet even the career they wanted? did they even like ogden? who were these people that had been decided as their friends? the questions became overwhelming.
WHO WILL BE LEFT TO LEAVE? JUST ME:  
and now greer is gone. and it’s noticeable the change in alethea. it began before her disappearance of course, but could it somehow be correlated? alethea willingly goes out, sometimes alone, now. they are keeping greers friends, they are speaking up and out, they have a bite to them that hadn’t existed once upon a time. what does the future hold of alethea? are they becoming who they really are, or are they once again pretending, shedding the quiet role they had lived into for all their life for one that looks a little more like their now missing friend…
GREER:
during freshman year at ogden, alethea was absolutely lost and in-over her head. she had never been the rebellious type, her parents had been too strict to allow non-sense in their house, and so alethea was overwhelmed with the freedom college could allow, and she had no idea how to deal with it. her mother had always taught her to seek out the ‘right’ people to befriend, and it was just her luck that greer extended her own friendship to alethea. she brought them to the parties, encouraged her to flirt with whomever was necessary in order to go after who she wanted, and overall guided alethea through college. they doesn’t know if she would have been able to survive any of it without greer. there was little jealousy on alethea’s side at the beginning - she was just grateful for what greer could offer her through her friendship. and alethea was not a threat to greer. but as they’ve grown older there has been a tension living in the friendship, the reliance upon each other that might not be as necessary anymore. alethea was not anymore outgoing or less shy, but now her shyness was being interpreted as mystery, making them a bit more intriguing to others and perhaps sparking some jealousy on greer’s side.
THE DRAG-ALONG:  
you know that girl that was always a few steps behind greer and the fallen princess? the one with wide eyes and a quiet demeanor? they never seemed to talk much, but even in their silence never seemed to be entirely so observant that you had to watch what you were saying. really, she just seemed like a little pet to the best friends, a third they allowed to follow them around. 
and that person? that was alethea, taken under greer’s wing during the first weeks of school freshman year but never brought too close. it was the kind of relationship where alethea was sure to call greer one of her best friends, and greer might hesitate, only referring to them as a simple friend. but wherever the fallen princess and greer were, alethea was there. fingers picking at each other, posture both immaculate and slouched. each semester they seemed to get a bit bolder, inching their way up next to the other two, but still never find herself as an equal.

The People’s Paintings
Their works drop groundward, but themselves, I know, Reach many a time a heaven that's shut to me, Enter and take their place there sure enough, Though they come back and cannot tell the world. My works are nearer heaven, but I sit here. The sudden blood of these men! at a word— Praise them, it boils, or blame them, it boils too. I, painting from myself and to myself, Know what I do, am unmoved by men's blame Or their praise either.
That comes from Andrea del Sarto, published in 1855, a dramatic monologue inspired by the eponymous Renaissance painter. Robert Browning, through the figure of del Sarto, explores religion, love, and art. For now we shall focus on the third of these three things alone — though, perhaps, they are interminably intertwined and ineluctably inseparable. Well, it is not my place to ponder that question right now; 'tis yours. So I hand the proverbial microphone over to you. These are some of my favourite paintings...

An obscure painting by an obscure artist - “The Shining Plain” by Tom Lea (1907-2001).
A native of El Paso, Texas, Lea first worked as a painter and muralist, and later as a novelist and historian. During WWII, he served as an artist correspondent for LIFE magazine, embedded with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. He was witness to some of the most tragic and bloody days of the war–the sinking of the aircraft carrier Wasp by a Japanese submarine, and the bloody (and strategically questionable) battle of Peleliu, from which came his most well-known paintings, “The Two-Thousand Yard Stare” and “The Price”.
After his return from war, Lea returned to painting real and imagined scenes of his native Texas, perhaps as healing. “The Shining Plain” (1947) was one of these. It is a sparse painting, a field of knee-high grass under an overcast sky, likely inspired by similar plains that still cover much of central and northern Texas. A buckskin-clad man in a coonskin cap, perhaps a settler or trader, rides a horse, and is followed by a pack-carrying burro. Small details–the man’s expressionless, bearded face, the long gun, the conspicuously large knife in his belt–note that this is a man who has seen hardship, war, and death. But other details cast the scene in a more peaceful light. The man and his animals are facing left–westward, perhaps? The man carries his rifle comfortably, barrel facing to the rear. Both horse and burro are in mid-stride, and their ears are perked up and forward–a fearful animal would have their ears flat and lowered. Is there something of interest ahead? A water source? A destination? A place to call home? And above them all, the overcast skies are breaking, and sunlight is pouring through.

I hope this isn’t cheating as it’s a print of a drawing which I have always admired. It’s a festive dinner at the Seamen’s Hospital in Greenwich and signed WS. The Seamen’s hospital was paid for by Queen Mary wife of King William as she thought that disabled seamen should have a hospital the same as the Chelsea one for soldiers. In the event it proved to be far too grand for the seamen and the wonderful Painted Hall and other buildings were used by the trustees. The rules were strict, but in general life was a great deal better than having to fend for themselves.
This image is clearly a good deal later than the original foundation (probably mid Victorian) but the dinner looks like a good one and the mugs of ale are cheering. The artist has caught the expressions on the faces of the seamen wonderfully but they all seem much more focussed on eating than on conviviality. Perhaps that’s because such a feast was rare and because they would not have wished the female serving maids to hear what they were saying. It’s also good to see a black seaman in the company and a reminder that we have always been a diverse community. The diners are reminded to be loyal and religious by the texts on the wall and we, the viewers are reminded about the dreadful injuries sustained in the many wars in which so many of them were constrained to fight.

One of my favourite paintings is The Fallen Angel by Alexandre Cabanal. Everything about this painting is so beautifully haunting, from the angel's body pose to the emotions depicted in his face and eyes; sadness, anger, humiliation, and defiance.

The Birth of Venus is a painting by the Italian artist Sandro Botticelli probably made in the mid 1480s. It depicts the goddess Venus arriving at the shore after her birth, when she had emerged from the sea fully-grown (called Venus Anadyomene and often depicted in art). The painting is in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
Although the two are not a pair, the painting is inevitably discussed with Botticelli's other very large mythological painting, the Primavera, also in the Uffizi. They are among the most famous paintings in the world, and icons of the Italian Renaissance; of the two, the Birth is even better known than the Primavera. As depictions of subjects from classical mythology on a very large scale they were virtually unprecedented in Western art since classical antiquity, as was the size and prominence of a nude female figure in the Birth. It used to be thought that they were both commissioned by the same member of the Medici family, but this is now uncertain.
They have been endlessly analysed by art historians, with the main themes being: the emulation of ancient painters and the context of wedding celebrations (generally agreed), the influence of Renaissance Neo-Platonism (somewhat controversial), and the identity of the commissioners (not agreed). Most art historians agree, however, that the Birth does not require complex analysis to decode its meaning, in the way that the Primavera probably does. While there are subtleties in the painting, its main meaning is a straightforward, if individual, treatment of a traditional scene from Greek mythology, and its appeal is sensory and very accessible, hence its enormous popularity.

I am utterly fucking livid right now.
So someone from Swan just came and saw me and gave me a bit of a bollocking but it's utter fucking bullshit. So firstly, he said he's here to see me as they have received complaints that *I* am the one refusing service and letting people do works!?! I told him repeatedly no one has shown up and i haven't had works booked for months, and i have let every person come here to do works! So fuck right off with that bullshit! Fucking penalising and trying to punish me like I'm being the one who is impossible to work with!?! The fucking audacity!
But then guess what he also did? He also told me off for dealing with the mould myself! He said cause i washed and blocked/painted it, this could effect my tenancy/stop Axis from coming for future repairs. But fuck off. I even fucking told him. I waited for over a fucking year trying to get Axis to deal with this mould. Then when someone did, they just cleaned it and Chelsea refused to believe or accept that he didn't carry out the proper works. I even said that not a month later the mould grew back. I better not have any fucking serious issues from this. If they try kicking me out, i will lose my shit. I gave them over a fucking year to deal with it. They kept not doing anything. Swan wouldn't help me. What the fuck else was i supposed to do. Just let me and my cats live in mould until the end of time. I'm gonna be fucking livid if they act as if i did a bad thing and didn't let them do it. I waited for over a fucking year. Over a fucking year. And for them to act as if my doing it was a bad thing when the only reason i dealt with it is cause they wouldn't. They can get absolutely and utterly royally fucked.
To sit there and say i am refusing service and works and being impossible to work with. After everything they fucking put me through. I turned away Terry fucking Swann one fucking time. And that's because he was the cunt that caused this fucking hell i have been trapped in. But i have not refused service or access to any other fucking person. How fucking dare they say it is me being the fucking problem. After how fucking hard they have been to get anything from. Then to fucking threaten me for dealing with a mould issue that they wouldn't fucking touch. I snapped at this fucking asshole multiple times and that was me trying to keep my fucking cool. How fucking dare they slander and threaten me over their fucking poor excuse of a fucking service. Their fucking company is in shambles yet they fucking hold it against me.
They said people have been trying to call me and i haven't been answering/talking. Spam companies have tried fucking calling me. Swan fucking hasn't. Axis fucking haven't. What utter fucking bullshit. How fucking dare they.

A Gay Brand Endured, and Evolved.
So Did Its Founders.
For 30 years, David Lauterstein has been making jockstraps, harnesses and other gear with his partner.

In a new memoir, he paints a (very) colorful portrait of gay New York in the 1990s.

Fashion changes. Jockstraps, not so much.
Those are fighting words to David Lauterstein and Frederick Kearney, husbands and founders of the sex-meets-street brand Nasty Pig.

For 30 years, Mr. Lauterstein and Mr. Kearney have reimagined what jockstraps, harnesses and other fetish-inspired apparel can be, and turned their company into a household name — if your house is a West Hollywood bungalow or Fire Island share.
This week, Mr. Lauterstein released “Sodomy Gods,” a memoir that traces in soul-baring and sexually frank detail his 31-year relationship with Mr. Kearney, and how they transformed Nasty Pig into one of the most recognizable gay clothing brands on the market, worn by celebrities such as Madonna and Frank Ocean.
During a recent interview at the company’s Manhattan design studio on West 28th Street — in what longtime customers would insist is Chelsea and deny is Hudson Yards — Mr. Lauterstein, 55, was in head-to-toe, darkroom-black Nasty Pig: T-shirt, shorts, garters, socks, boots.
Mr. Kearney, 63, had on a chest-hugging top in black and white with the logo in blood red.
Mr. Lauterstein is the chattier, less filtered of the two.
In his book, he writes candidly about his sex life and drug use.
He said he hoped his memoir would be an educational and entertaining time capsule about the brand but also about 1990s gay New York, with remembrances of the kind “our ancestors couldn’t pass down to us because we lost a lot of them” to AIDS.
Mr. Lauterstein and Mr. Kearney share a sex-positive sartorial vision for the brand, but divide daily responsibilities as chief executive and creative director, respectively.
(“I’m concept, he’s detail,” Mr. Lauterstein explained.)
The couple declined to discuss sales, though Mr. Lauterstein allowed that “Fred and I are terrible capitalists.”
Nasty Pig garments (above, on display in the company’s Manhattan design studio) help customers liven up the salad of life with a little raunch dressing.
Mr. Kearney said his inspirations include the gay artist Tom of Finland — whose vision of distended denim and straining tank tops refined an archetype of the hypermasculine clone — and the photographers Alvin Baltrop and Stanley Stellar, who captured New York’s gay pier scene of the 1970s and ’80s.
They said their biggest design influence was a friend:
Manfred Theirry Mugler, the maverick French fashion designer known for outré, BDSM-inspired creations who died in 2022.
“He taught us to stay out of the fashion industry because it will eat you alive,” Mr. Lauterstein said.
“Make clothing for your customers. The story is between you and them.”
‘It’s Like Lululemon’
Nasty Pig isn’t the first apparel brand to present an aspirational vision of what being gay can look like.
But it did refract that vision through the gay leather scene and men’s physique magazines of the 1950s, when a classic Bike brand jockstrap came in maybe one style.

They’re hardly alone in the gay apparel marketplace; Andrew Christian, one of the brand’s chief competitors, is a mainstay in gay shopping districts and well known to watchers of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
Nasty Pig’s logo — an abstract snout, designed by the artist Ryan Duty, who died in 2020 — is one of the last purely queer identifiers.
“It’s like Lululemon,” said Tony Lance, 41, an arts consultant who lives in Manhattan, who was spotted with his Nasty Pig hat and tracksuit at an airport when an employee asked him if he had shopped the summer sale.
The designer John Bartlett said Nasty Pig has remained relevant by “staying true to the brand” in a notoriously inconstant industry.
“What Nasty Pig has done is take archetypal pieces of the gay subculture, what you used to have to get at the Leather Man on Christopher Street, and make them more commercial and accessible to a much larger audience,” said Mr. Bartlett, the New School’s director of fashion for executive and professional studies.
Critics say the brand reinforces a narrow understanding of sexy, excluding men who aren’t the type to frequent gyms or sweaty dance parties.
Ari Arya, 24, who is queer and nonbinary and recently graduated from the Parsons School of Design, said that the brand “belongs to a different generation,” and they and their friends most likely wouldn’t wear it.
Arya granted that its clothing could be “useful in an under-the-radar way” for queer people interested in signaling sexual daring and availability.
But for younger queers partial to blousy tops or boxy silhouettes, Nasty Pig doesn’t cut it.
“Wearing it would make me feel like a gay guy and I’m not,” they said. “I want to feel less like a gay guy.”
“Is our clothing identified as masculine? Sure,” Mr. Lauterstein said. “But it’s non-toxic. It’s celebratory.”
A Trusted Messenger
Mr. Lauterstein, who was raised on Staten Island by parents who were public-school teachers, studied poetry at SUNY Binghamton and took a job in music merchandising after graduating.
Mr. Kearney, who grew up in Kearny, N.J., graduated from Rutgers and worked as a professional patternmaker.
The two met on May 6, 1993, over $1 margaritas at the Break, a long-gone gay bar on Eighth Avenue.
“I was entranced,” Mr. Kearney said. “Engulfed.”
“He took my virginity,” Mr. Lauterstein replied, laughing.
After finding side-hustle success selling tricked-out goggles at Sound Factory and other nightclubs, the couple started designing and wearing their own apparel on nights out.
That eventually became the line they sold under the Nasty Pig brand — named for their Jack Russell terrier, Piggy — at their first store, which opened on Dec. 23, 1994, in a 64-square-foot Chelsea storefront.
At the time, fashion was confused about what gay men wanted to wear.
Other than Gianni Versace and a few others, designers weren’t making clothes that overtly sexualized the male body.
AIDS had entered its second decade, and as protease inhibitors made H.I.V. a bit less scary, many gay men got muscled, and men’s wear silhouettes tightened.

It was in this body-conscious environment that Nasty Pig first made a splash with clothes that belied the fear that coursed through many gay bodies.
In 2021, a year after its last retail location closed, the company opened its design studio, where a staff of 10 designs and markets the collections, manages the online shop and keeps the more than three dozen stores that carry the brand around the world well stocked.
In January, after Mr. Lauterstein and Mr. Kearney met with L.G.B.T.Q. public health officials at the White House, Nasty Pig hosted a “Pep Rally”: a booth at Mid Atlantic Leather, an annual fetish event in Washington, where the brand joined an effort by the city’s public health office to distribute doses of doxy-PEP, a kind of morning-after pill to prevent some S.T.I.s, in black, Nasty Pig-branded boxes.
Shaped by the AIDS crisis, the two founders consider gay sexual health, not just sex, to be part of their brand’s ethos.
“Sexual positivity wasn’t a thing then because sex was terrifying, especially for gay men and queer people,” Mr. Lauterstein said. “Nasty Pig opened to reclaim that identity and fight for it.”

Just figured I’d say this about Peter and Company before we moved on to DD.
It really drives me up the wall how much Whitney has pretty much taken over the plot to the point suddenly Jon’s now trying to make it about her childhood as well…I remember the French horn scene had me like “Really? We now have two pity parties?”, and it was the last page I read way back when before I got sick of the comic (but it was mostly due to very personal reasons at the time)...It’s impossible to get invested in this story at all when it just two authors trying to paint themselves as woobies 24/7.
As for Peter and Whitney…I mean I really don’t have an opinion on that because, as I said before, it makes the whole relationship look like it was some sort of destiny to make it seem more inspiring and romantic than it really is. The only reason I’m not as critical about it is because atleast it’s honest about the fact that it’s about Peter and Whitney’s relationship…though, I’m not too thrilled Jon went out of his way to make potshots at a real person still (i.e Eugene), or the fact that Chelsea was “Madcat”’s non-canon girlfriend; that’s…kinda pushing it right there.
I do mostly agree with you, but I am glad we get pages focusing on non-Peter people that aren’t clownshitters, at least.
Yeah Peter and Whitney’s existence is the biggest flaw of Peter and Whitney. I will go further in depth into it next month and I’m sure you’re gonna appreciate what I’ll have to say

Y/n being as crazy as Joker.....but can sorta hide it.
Imagine joker sitting at the table, trying to think of a way to carry out a robbery but every plan he thinks of had a fault and it's stressing him out. Without thinking y/n just blurts out a plan that is mind-blowing and perfect. She just says 'it's the voices in my head'.
However the plan goes left because some goon did something stupid. Joker gets caught by the batman and is sitting at the back of the police car in hand cuffs being sent to the asylum. When the police officer talks to him, he recognises the voice and the eyes from the rearview mirror and its his bunny blended in as a cop. Recklessly driving away and ending up in a car chase with many police cars and even a helicopter on their tail.

The saying, “You are known by the company you keep” could be misconstrued in so many ways.
For how can someone say they truly know a person?
Joker felt that he knew you both inside and out; his stubborn yet highly intelligent Y/n. He loved you to a toxic degree and he knew the feelings were mutual.
He’d only known you for a year, but he knew the itty bitty details that made you unique. You were quiet when necessary and rowdy at the most inopportune times. Your literary skills were profound at the cost of your social prowess.
J loved how you stumbled your way through conversations and your cute little um’s were to die for! But if given a pen and paper, you could move the masses with your words.
In Joker’s eyes you were just shy of being perfect. Sweet, innocent—you couldn’t harm a fly. He thought he knew his soft-spoken Bunny.
Come to find out: he didn’t know you at all.

Your dining room table was a war zone of stationery and mindless clutter.
Joker had parked himself there early this morning and had not moved since. You brought him breakfast and snacks but he would only grumble a quick, “Thanks Bun” to you before resuming his work. He was so fixated on this new heist idea that nothing else mattered. He couldn’t focus on anything if it wasn’t the blueprints in front of him or his phone that would chime with more reliable intel.
Come to think of it, you didn’t see him take a bathroom break. This robbery couldn’t be that important. You tried to get his attention despite failing every time.
Nothing was getting through to your dark clown, so you stopped trying.
You could tell planning was stressing him out, but once J was in his thinking mode, either he would finish or throw a murderous tantrum until he figured it out. All you had to do was wait for the outcome.
In the meantime, something you loved about Joker was his handwriting. It resembled nothing of the infamous madman. His penmanship was legible and slightly feminine with hints of cursive in unexpected places. Only Joker could get away with writing slaughter in pretty script. You did not expect him to have neat writing. It was a huge contrast to his deranged mental state.
It was soothing to watch J hunch over his notebook plotting out his next heist. There were so many intricate details that ultimately found their way into his notes—and you got to see the magic unfold in real time. You almost missed him groaning at the ceiling. He finally stopped plotting and started mumbling to himself under his breath.
A tantrum was imminent, so you decided to intervene before he went out and started killing innocent people.
“What’s bothering you, J?” You asked him.
His stressed-out green eyes immediately found yours from across the room.
You watched his pupils dilate taking in your beauty. You tried not to let his awe-struck reaction get to your head and instead focused your attention on his response.
“It's nothing to worry that uh.. pretty little head of yours with, Bunny. Am I... bothering you sittin’ here?” He gestured to his mess at the table while raking a hand through his dirty hair.
He needed to wash it but if he was going out, he needed to dye it. You would miss his natural sun kissed strands until the green faded out. A pity he covered up something so beautiful.
You shook your head, walking closer to him. “You are never a bother, J. I just came to see if you needed anything. You know... like a break.”
You made grabby hands at Joker’s hair and waited for him to voice his consent.
With a happy squeal, you carded your fingers through his greasy locs. The texture was a bit unusual, but it was an honor to touch Joker in such an intimate way that you overlooked your own discomfort to establish his.
Joker’s head fell back against your stomach in bliss. Your nails felt so good on his scalp, all his thoughts about the upcoming mission just melted away.
It was crazy how you automatically knew how to calm him down. J purred under your touch and you smiled at the overgrown cat at your mercy. This man worked so hard, he never stopped to take breaks and care for himself. He was blessed to have you around to remind him.
Not much it did with the stubborn clown, but the thought was appreciated.
The snacks you brought J were left untouched except for the sugary treats you added last minute. Joker and his sweet tooth. You rolled your eyes and they landed on his scattered plans.
From your advantage point, you could read everything from over Joker’s shoulder.
The heist was thoroughly thought out even in its rough planning phase.
Joker planned to rob the mob run bank in downtown Gotham, but you noticed there was something missing to tie it all together. He couldn’t seem to figure out how to access the bank’s service panels on the roof. You skimmed over the goons’ hired for the job. They were familiar names from your past and you remembered their individual skill sets. You knew who needed to be where to extract their ultimate usefulness.
The heist was scheduled to be done at the day’s end so that Joker could blend in with the district's school buses that drove by the bank everyday like clockwork.
It was perfect. Too perfect, hence why Joker circled alarm panel three times in red marker at the top of his notes and underlined, eliminate idiots twice.
There were open gaps within his idea. He didn’t know how to fill them.
Your poor clown was overthinking this and his little doodles on the plan’s margins were a sign of his restlessness. The solution was so easy; you couldn’t stop yourself from spelling it out for him.
“Baby.. have John John and Razor zip-line from the adjacent office building down onto the roof. John John can access the alarm panel and disable it. He’s got more situational awareness than Razor, so he’ll regroup with the two idiots you stormed the bank with. Tell them... it's only five shares, they’ll off each other to hoard all the money for themselves. Greed will have them turning their guns on their own accomplices. You won’t have to do a thing but watch. Before the bus gets there, there should be only one guy left. That way...”
You leaned down to kiss Joker’s scarred cheek. “You can kill him and the bus driver and make off with the cash. Easy.”
You resumed stroking his hair as if you didn’t solve his day long conundrum.
It was a mind blowing and perfect plan, one that he could’ve crafted if he weren’t so stressed but coming from his Bunny—it was even more diabolical. It was a glimpse at a darker side of you that he’d never seen before. He honestly didn’t know one existed.
He turned to stare at you in disbelief and you had the audacity to look surprised.
“I’m sorry, did I scratch too hard?”
You were worried about his hair rather than the plan you just orchestrated on the fly. How did you string it together?
He glanced down at his unfinished notes scattered on the table. Frost still had trouble decoding Joker’s long code, it was so complex, but you managed to decipher it and fill in the blanks within minutes.
“Can ya read that doll?” J pointed to his notes.
Were you not supposed to? It was clear as day, but you didn’t want to hurt Joker’s feelings if he didn’t like his own handwriting or something.
Joker stood up slowly, seeing you hesitate. He hoped he was just overthinking this.
There was no way his precious Light was some secret criminal mastermind. You wouldn’t harm a fly, yet he couldn’t ignore how easily you read his coded text. No one was supposed to unless they had previous skill in certain circles.
You sensed a shift in Joker’s demeanor and quickly backtracked.
“Um well, I.... I mean not really, no! The um voices in my head.. kinda filled in the gaps? Perks of being a writer, I guess? We can read anything! You have pretty handwriting if that’s the problem! Haha.. Wow! Would you look at the time? A-Are you hungry? I was thinking lamb stew with some fufu for lunch!”
You laughed and all but sprinted towards the kitchen, leaving a perplexed Joker staring after you.
Perks of being a writer? Was he really supposed to believe that? Although he did blush at the compliment you made towards his penmanship. You somehow managed to talk your way out of his suspicions with your sweet nature.
Joker watched as you washed your hands and forgot about the odd moment altogether. Watching you cook was the perfect way to distract Joker. It must’ve been a fluke for you to be able to read his code.
But why did he have the feeling you were hiding something?

Your plan was so foolproof, Joker didn’t change a single thing.
The day of the hit came, and everything went smoothly as if you personally knew the mindset of his hired goons. They played their part as pawns perfectly and Joker was able to drive the school bus out of the bank with no issues. His Light was secretly a genius!
What neither of you predicted was the loyalty of the bus drivers in front and the one behind Joker’s decoy.
Despite the hush money given, they still snitched to the GCPD, and the authorities had Joker surrounded by the time he broke off from the fleet. He couldn’t put up much of a chase in the worn-down vehicle and was quickly apprehended.
There was nothing Joker could do to get himself out of being hauled back to Arkham by his arch-nemeses, Batman.
J’s triumphant day was instantly a catastrophic failure.
The caped crusader was standing around, giving Jim Gordon the rundown of events as if he did all the work. They were talking for almost an hour now with no end in sight! All Joker could think about in the meantime was how many strings he had to pull to break out of Arkham to get back home to you.
He didn’t want you to worry when the news of him being captured aired. It was an inevitable outcome within the relationship, one that you mentally prepared for; but Joker had always planned on saying goodbye should this situation arise.
Joker hardly gave you a kiss when he snuck out your apartment for this robbery. He was so confident in your plan that he didn’t fathom the possibility of being caught and skipped his traditional goodbye. It was a small mistake that he regretted terribly.
Without a doubt, Joker knew you would sit up all night waiting for him only for a breaking news bulletin to squash your hopes of his return.
Escapes from Arkham took careful planning months in advance and eight times out of ten, they ended in failure. Joker couldn’t survive a day without his Light. Now he would be separated from you for an undisclosed amount of time before he could even begin plotting an escape. He was screwed.
He banged his head against the window in anger. Jim and Batman glanced over at the noise and didn’t notice a rookie cadet snatch the handcuff keys away from Jim’s belt.
Joker’s world was crumbling fast and the voices in his head were making things worse.
What will Bunny think deserting her like this?
She’ll never love you again for leaving without a word.
You’re gonna lose her forever.
No one said anything about the rage filled tantrum Joker was having in the backseat. They could hear his yelling and saw how the car was rocking violently as he flipped out.
Batman spent enough time talking with the Commissioner. It was time to transport Joker before he grew too volatile and risked an escape attempt.
Jim turned around and got the attention of a cop he trusted. “Hey, Cruz! You and the rookie take the clown back to the precinct. We’ll follow after we finish here.”
Cruz nodded and slapped his newly appointed partner’s arm. “Hah! Let’s go rookie. You drive.”
Joker was still fighting against his restraints when he spotted the two cops approaching the vehicle.
He found it odd that Batman wasn’t escorting him straight to Arkham Island. Instead, two average looking police officers were tasked with the job. Much to his amusement, one of the cops stuck another with a needle about halfway to the car.
Cruz crumbled to the ground and was dragged out of view of the surrounding GCPD officers. It wasn’t an unusual sight to see a corrupted cop and for that Joker didn’t raise an eyebrow at the sight.
He grew curious when the rookie hopped into the car and cranked it up.
They didn’t waste any time stepping on the gas pedal and flooring it straight out of the parking lot. It was only after they drove through the police barricade did a fellow cop shout, “HEY!” thus alerting the squadron of the situation.
Shouts rang out in attempts to pierce the tires, but the cruiser was screeching away like a bat out of hell. Joker couldn’t balance himself being handcuffed as he was.
He tumbled roughly into the door and had a mind to complain about it. “Who taught ya how to drive?!”
He was unsure if this person was his savior but his answer came when other GCPD vehicles gave chase. Even more surprisingly, the Batmobile was not in pursuit just yet.
“I know how to drive, thank you very much.” The erratic driver mumbled towards the backseat.
Joker’s head shot up hearing the voice. There was no way.
Despite the fast speeds and harrowing turns, he managed to right his balance and peer through the dividing glass at the driver. Your e/c locked eyes with his shocked green through the rearview mirror.
“Y/n?” Joker was sent headfirst into the passenger side door after you made a sudden turn onto the highway, literally on two wheels. Okay that jerk felt a little intentional.
J shook off the pain and overheard you laughing in the front seat. He was in shock seeing this rare side of you. Was he dreaming?
Joker almost didn’t recognize his Bunny dressed undercover—mainly due to the scarlet red wig you wore. This had to be a dream. Your e/c eyes were wild with excitement and much to his horror, there was a natural ease to you.
You were in your element speeding down the highway with an apprehended criminal in the back seat.
The police cars caught up and opened fire, yet you laughed at their pathetic attempts even as a few gunshots cracked the back windows of your cruiser. The odds were stacked against you, however you continued, swerving in and out of traffic, causing wrecks and utter chaos in your wake.
You spotted a familiar SUV driving parallel to you and waved at the driver. Joker was about to ask if you knew them when they introduced themselves in a bold fashion.
Two men leaned out the backseat windows and returned fire at the police. Their aim was true and hit the police tires, stopping them in their tracks.
Joker was speechless. How was any of this happening?
His brain didn’t have time to process anything when a helicopter highlighted the car from above. You groaned in anger but reached over to grab a walkie talkie.
“Up top! Up top! Up top!” You chimed into the device.
Then it finally clicked to J. Somehow you were in on this daring escape. He didn’t care about his fate; you were the only concern on his mind.
Joker banged his bound hands onto the divider glass to get your attention. “Bunny! This is dangerous! Ya gotta stop!”
All you did was roll your eyes and scoff. “Mm that’s cute coming from you!” You shifted gears when you spotted something up ahead. “Thank God! Our backup has arrived!”
Joker glanced out the window and only saw Gotham civilians trying to get out the way and the all black SUV shooting back at the GCPD. That wasn’t backup? He didn’t understand anything at this point. The spotlight overhead was keeping you and him visible to the authorities so what could you possibly have in mind to escape?
“What are ya talkin’ about doll?! What backup?” Joker saw twin 18 wheelers up ahead open their hatches. His green eyes widened at the heat they were packing.
What he didn’t see was two more SUVs entering the highway, already aiming at the police helicopter with rockets.
In response to his question, all he received was your maniacal laughter as you reached one hundred and twenty miles per hour. From there, everything happened simultaneously.
You spotted the tank Batman called a car fast approaching and radioed to your men. “Light em up, boys.”
Your cruiser whizzed past the two trucks and the now three support SUVs at the precise moment they blocked the highway and unleashed their weaponry on the unsuspecting police.
It was a war zone. News outlets later on reported that the highway sustained so much damage, it would need to be repaved.
A brave civilian caught the battle from the southbound lanes on his cell phone and it was a literal massacre to witness.
The helicopter was shot down and exploded in a fireball onto the first two cop cars leading the chase. Once a wall of fire separated the GCPD from you and Joker’s getaway car, your goons opened fire and brutally murdered the rest of the fleet of police officers.
Batman tried to save the day but his tank suffered heavy structural damage from the RPGs and other arsenal fired at it.
The bat had no other choice but to flee the scene.
The authorities were severely outgunned and quickly outmanned by a few criminals. Jim Gordon was at the end of the chase and his face paled seeing the insignia painted on one of the 18 wheelers.
It was his cue to call out the immediate, fallback orders to his men. But it was already too late.
It had been decades since Jim Gordon had seen the haunting image of a cobra coiling around a bouquet of nightshade.
The Mors Atra Lux Syndicate. Their Latin translation meaning; death is a dark light. They were the deadliest gang in the east, dating back as far as the Great Roman Empire. And now their current leader was making their stand here in Gotham City by allying with The Joker.
The ominous air was palpable. This was the beginning to a very long bloodbath.
But it wasn’t that deep to you.
All you did was call in a favor the second you saw Joker landing himself into trouble during his heist. You were worried about his poor choice of a getaway vehicle right from the beginning. The school bus would help him blend in, but after separating from the yellow procession, he would be vulnerable.
And you couldn’t have been more correct. Through surveillance and radio, you watched Joker be apprehended. It was now or never, and you acted fast.
You called your uncle and exhausted your one-time favor to rescue Joker.
The consequences of your actions would sink in later. You didn’t care that asking for help was your Defacto swearing in ceremony into the gang. There was no way out once you got involved.
None of that mattered as you exited the highway and drove to the predetermined meet up spot. Joker had yet to stop yelling in your ear.
He was giving you a mouthful about the events that were unfolding around him. He too recognized the ancient gang’s insignia and its importance. The Mors Atra Lux Syndicate was the greatest active gang in the world and to have them as an ally was legendary.
His mind was still reeling to discover his Bunny was affiliated!
You screamed whenever there was a bug in the apartment. He shielded you from his own organization due to your intolerance to violence. That’s the Y/n he thought he knew.
His Light wasn’t pure as he thought.
That much was evident when you pulled into an abandoned junk yard, turned off the car, and faced him. “SHUT UP, J! Just.... be quiet, I can’t hear myself think!!” You closed your eyes as Joker stared at you in horror.
You were mumbling to yourself with an eerie smile on your face. Whatever you were discussing was resolved for you quickly composed yourself and grabbed the keys to unlock his handcuffs.
You joined him in the backseat and without hesitation, you grabbed Joker by the neck to kiss him.
He wished it was the interaction mutual but the shock factor of discovering your dark side was hindering his ability to function properly. Just how deep was your affiliation? Should he be intimidated or aroused?
You caught onto Joker’s wary demeanor.
You smoothed down his wind tossed hair, “I’m sorry baby, I’ll explain m-more later but right now? We need to get you somewhere safe.” Your attention wavered after hearing a car door close.
Joker sputtered seeing you pull a gun from your waistline. It even had a silencer on it, he was impressed!
Thankfully you didn’t need it, yet he knew you were a seasoned warrior based on your stance. This wasn’t your first rodeo. You had nothing but murder on the mind and a steady hand.
You recognized your first cousin Flex approaching from his armored SUV and lowered your weapon.
“Bella.” He nodded at you before giving Joker the up down. He wouldn’t judge your choice of a partner. “We’ll take care of him from here.” Flex noted.
Joker was positively mind blown. He waited until you freed his hands to ask. “Uhhhh.. Bella? Is that your err real name, Y/n?”
You and Flex snorted. You hugged your cousin and whispered something in his ear as Joker looked on, growing more and more annoyed by the second.
Finally, you replied to J’s question. “No. Its an honorific in our Syndicate. Flex will take you to your hideout. Don’t. Kill. Him. I won’t be able to save you if you anger the order. I’ll see you at home for dinner, okay J?”
You kissed him one more time and smoothed out his suit, as if you didn’t pull off a highly dangerous recovery mission to free him.
Joker’s head was spinning as you urged him to follow Flex back to the car. Nothing made sense. Everything Joker thought he knew about you was apparently a lie.
You were already destroying the cruiser’s license plate and removing your wig to revert back to your harmless civilian look. You fluffed out your natural curls and then proceeded to coat the cop car in gasoline. The fire started inside the vehicle as Flex cranked up his SUV.
Joker watched you stay behind, staring at the growing flames with that eerie smile on your face. He was staring at a stranger. A devil in disguise. He thought he knew his soft-spoken Bunny.
Come to find out: he didn’t know you at all.

&&&2 January 6, 2024 – February 18, 2024  Opening Reception: Jan 6, Saturday 6-8PM  A talk with the artists will be scheduled in February
Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York is pleased to present &&&2, a bi-coastal exhibition that serves as both a survey and sequel to the collaborations of Ethan Greenbaum, David Kennedy Cutler and Sara Greenberger Rafferty.
Ten years ago, the artists initiated a series of meetings to talk about materials and techniques, based on their mutual interest in using photographic imagery to destabilize traditional art categories like painting, printmaking and sculpture.
The meetings resulted in an artist’s book titled &&&, in which the three artists imagined themselves as a fictional industrial supply firm. For Greenberger & Greenbaum & Cutler &, the fictional company had a veneer of prestige. For these capitalist outsiders, a corporate symbol of joint commercial enterprise was almost tantamount to success.
The book was released at Printed Matter’s NY Art Book Fair in 2013 in both a mass market paperback and a boxed, limited special edition print series based on swatch sample catalogs. The intention of the project was lost on nearly everyone, but a few key people became aware of the artists’ positioning themselves as a small movement.  This included the photography curator Dan Leers, who organized a show and catalog of their work, Beyond The Surface: Image as Object, at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center in 2014. 
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of &&&, Sun You has invited Greenberger & Greenbaum & Cutler to mount an exhibition at TSA in Brooklyn, NY. There will also be a simultaneous version of the show at Ditch Projects in Springfield, OR.  The exhibitions at both artist-run spaces feature a backdrop that wraps the gallery with deconstructed pages from the original &&& book, over which the artists have installed works from 2013 and 2023.  The original book is also exhibited, as well as a new portfolio of prints (&&&2) to celebrate ten fruitful years of collaboration, hand wringing and friendship 
Ethan Greenbaum is a New York based artist. Selected exhibition venues include KANSAS, New York; Derek Eller Gallery, New York; Hauser and Wirth, New York; Marlborough Chelsea, New York, Higher Pictures, New York; New York; Marianne Boesky, New York, Circus Gallery, Los Angeles; Steve Turner, Los Angeles; The Suburban, Chicago; Michael Jon & Alan, Miami, The Aldrich Museum, Connecticut; Socrates Sculpture Park; Long Island City and Stems Gallery, Brussels. Recent projects include a solo presentation with Lyles & King and solo exhibitions at Galerie Pact, Paris and Super Dakota, Brussels.
His work has been discussed in The New York Times, Modern Painters, Artforum, BOMB Magazine, ArtReview and Interview Magazine, among others. Ethan is a co-founder and editor of thehighlights.org and his writings have appeared in the Brooklyn Rail, Wax Magazine, BOMB, Paper Monument and others. He has also curated and co-curated multiple exhibitions at venues including The Suburban, Chicago; Lyles & King, New York and Super Dakota, Brussels. Greenbaum is the recipient of the Queens Art Fund New Work Grant, the Silver Art Residency, The Keyholder Residency at the Lower East Side Printshop, Dieu Donne’s Workspace Residency, LMCC’s Workspace Program, The Robert Blackburn SIP Fellowship, The Socrates EAF Fellowship, The Edward Albee Foundation Residency and The Barry Schactman Painting Prize. He received an MFA in Painting from Yale School of Art.
David Kennedy Cutler is an artist, writer and performer who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Cutler received his BFA from The Rhode Island School of Design in 2001. He has had solo exhibitions at Derek Eller Gallery, New York; Halsey McKay Gallery, East Hampton; Essex Flowers, New York; The Centre for Contemporary Art, Tallinn, Estonia and Nice & Fit, Berlin, Germany. Cutler has performed in various spaces in New York including Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery, Essex Flowers, Printed Matter, Halsey McKay, Derek Eller Gallery, and Flag Art Foundation, and internationally at the Center for Contemporary Arts Estonia, among others. His works are included in the permanent collections of the Wellin Museum at Hamilton College and The RISD Museum, and his artist’s books are included in the libraries of the Whitney Museum and the Brooklyn Museum. He has been reviewed and featured in The New York Times, Artforum, Art in America, The New Yorker and Modern Painter, among others. Cutler is represented by Derek Eller Gallery, NY and Halsey McKay Gallery, East Hampton. 
Sara Greenberger Rafferty produces image-based works in paper, plastic, glass, metal, fabric, and video. Her work is driven by an ongoing examination of contemporary and mid-20th century visual culture and considers the ever-changing implications for photographic images in the digital era. She’s also into comedy. 
Ditch Projects is a nonprofit artist-founded, artist-run studio, exhibition, and performance space providing contemporary art experiences in Springfield, Oregon. As a collective of artists and professionals committed to exhibiting experimental artists from diverse backgrounds, Ditch Projects provides opportunities for cultural exchange between experimental contemporary art and our local community, acting as an integral voice within contemporary art discourse in the Pacific Northwest. Since its founding in 2008, Ditch Projects has featured over 145 exhibitions and 275 artists. Growing organically out of the concerns of its artist members, Ditch provides contemporary visual arts practitioners with an opportunity to test out new ideas, processes, and approaches they might not otherwise attempt in a comparable urban center. Over the past decade, the primary focus of the artist collective has been on the production and presentation of new works by regional, national and international artists, with a consistent 10-12 solo, two-person or group exhibitions per season. Past exhibiting artists have included internationally renowned practitioners such as Amy Yao, Diana Thater, Scott Reeder, Laura Owens, Jessica Jackson Hutchinsons, and Vito Acconci, along with regionally acclaimed artists such as Ralph Pugay, Amy Bernstein, Lisa Radon, Tannaz Farsi, James Lavadour, and Kristen Kennedy. Exhibitions at Ditch Projects have been reviewed in Art Forum, Frieze, Art in America, and the New York Times. Ditch Projects has received grants from the Andy Warhol Foundation, The Miller Foundation, the Ford Family Foundation, the Oregon Arts Commision, the Oregon Cultural Trust, Oregon Community Foundation, and the WLS Spencer Foundation.

WHEN ALL THE BRIDGES HAVE BEEN BURNED:
jennifer pierce expected the best of her children. she gave them the best so of course they had to return the favor. she had inherited her father’s business, and was excelling so much her husband took her last name. it wasn’t a feminist thing, but a money thing you see. alethea grew up without a want, but the truth of the matter is she never knew what she wanted. her mother made those decisions. from what she wore, to how she cut her hair, to who her friends were and what activities did. her entire life was planned to a t, and alethea never questioned a moment of it. how do you question something that you didn’t know was an option?
her brother jacob was doted on, and grew up with a grin and popularity. this was easy to him. this was painful for alethea. she smiled and waved, and the only matters of relief she found were in her ballet classes. going professional hadn’t been her mother’s first plan, but seeing the natural talent her daughter was, and just how feminine she was, allowed this small change in the over all path forward.
jennifer and carl met at ogden, and she knew that was where her children were to go. there was no exception, and jennifer would do whatever needed for her kids to follow her legacy. the major was flexible, but they would go to ogden, they would find suitable spouses, and they would carry on the family legacy. it was picture perfect, and she never heard a single word of complaint from either of her children. 
AND ALL THE TABLES HAVE BEEN TURNED BY ME:
growing up without decisions meant college was terrifying for alethea. she had to pick her classes, find friends that her mother couldn’t approve of, and suddenly had free time that wasn’t planned out for her? it was paralyzing. but during the second week of classes greer spotted alethea across the way and took her under her wing. she showed her what the world could be, and she still fit under that approval from jennifer pierce. greer wasn’t just her best friend, but she was a bit of a savior for her.
this whole time there has been a gnawing in her chest. a desire for freedom, a petition to let the real alethea out and run free. but who was she? alethea couldn’t answer that, not honestly. just who her mother had manufactured her to be. but this confusion, this shyness, this quietness played into a different picture of alethea. it allowed her to be whatever anyone wanted her to be, they could paint their own ideas of her. she could be mysterious, she could be all they ever wanted. and she could be a dream.
and it was through this exploration that alethea slowly stepped out of the pillars her mother had built for her. first came the time greer dared her to kiss another girl during spin the bottle, and alethea realized that she might have enjoyed it more than her mother would have liked. and then came the time greer put her in a suit instead of a dress, and she liked the way it looked on her. and that maybe she wasn’t a girl after all, but something that could be shed. and so they started to pick up new pieces of theirself, putting them together to form a whole new journey. was ballet even the career they wanted? did they even like ogden? who were these people that had been decided as their friends? the questions became overwhelming.
WHO WILL BE LEFT TO LEAVE? JUST ME:  
and now greer is gone. and it’s noticeable the change in alethea. it began before her disappearance of course, but could it somehow be correlated? alethea willingly goes out, sometimes alone, now. they are keeping greers friends, they are speaking up and out, they have a bite to them that hadn’t existed once upon a time. what does the future hold of alethea? are they becoming who they really are, or are they once again pretending, shedding the quiet role they had lived into for all their life for one that looks a little more like their now missing friend…
GREER:
during freshman year at ogden, alethea was absolutely lost and in-over her head. she had never been the rebellious type, her parents had been too strict to allow non-sense in their house, and so alethea was overwhelmed with the freedom college could allow, and she had no idea how to deal with it. her mother had always taught her to seek out the ‘right’ people to befriend, and it was just her luck that greer extended her own friendship to alethea. she brought them to the parties, encouraged her to flirt with whomever was necessary in order to go after who she wanted, and overall guided alethea through college. they doesn’t know if she would have been able to survive any of it without greer. there was little jealousy on alethea’s side at the beginning - she was just grateful for what greer could offer her through her friendship. and alethea was not a threat to greer. but as they’ve grown older there has been a tension living in the friendship, the reliance upon each other that might not be as necessary anymore. alethea was not anymore outgoing or less shy, but now her shyness was being interpreted as mystery, making them a bit more intriguing to others and perhaps sparking some jealousy on greer’s side.
THE DRAG-ALONG:  
you know that girl that was always a few steps behind greer and the fallen princess? the one with wide eyes and a quiet demeanor? they never seemed to talk much, but even in their silence never seemed to be entirely so observant that you had to watch what you were saying. really, she just seemed like a little pet to the best friends, a third they allowed to follow them around. 
and that person? that was alethea, taken under greer’s wing during the first weeks of school freshman year but never brought too close. it was the kind of relationship where alethea was sure to call greer one of her best friends, and greer might hesitate, only referring to them as a simple friend. but wherever the fallen princess and greer were, alethea was there. fingers picking at each other, posture both immaculate and slouched. each semester they seemed to get a bit bolder, inching their way up next to the other two, but still never find herself as an equal.
