abstract: Simon here. You're following the story alright? Good, cause I'm not. Getting more and more confusing and everywhere I go, she's following. I can't get her to stop invading my space, it's getting repetitive.

'Oh yeah?' What a stupid fucking thing to say, Simon get it together. She looked at him, beautiful, tired siren eyes, beautiful long lashes, sad gaze. She nodded. She knew his family was dead, she knew cause he told her. How they died, she didn't know. Addiction? Something else? 'Yes, 'twas a…', lie Alba, '…drunk driver'. He nodded, his eyes still on her. He felt sorry. Why didn't she talk about her family more, why did she move away? Why was she so far from home? 'It's tough.' That's all he could say. I lost all my family, he could have said. But how do you explain something like that, how do you even say it out loud? How can someone like her understand what happened to him, how can someone like her comprehend. What happened to him was out of this world, his family, death, the bodies, what he had been through. It wasn't the same, sure losing a family member was awful, but it wasn't the same. They weren't the same.

He got up from the chair, taking a step away from her. He couldn't even look at her, he mumbled something about not staying at the base at night. And he was gone. She wasn't mad, she wasn't offended. She cursed herself for saying that thing about her brother, wanting him to feel like he could share parts of his past. It was probably too much, too soon. But still, if he wanted to, he would. Especially after throwing that tantrum at her place on the 24th. Don't expect me to listen to you bitching and moaning about my lifestyle and your brother and not wonder about it.

She went home soon after, she wasn't concentrating on her tasks, she was too tired. A walk with the dog, dinner, a shower. Things were only getting more complicated. She laid in bed trying to put the pieces together, the gentle snoring of the dog in the other room, the wind outside the window. How she was gonna manage to stay on top of things and stay sane, she didn't know. She had a meeting with Price on Thursday, three days after her chat with Simon. Didn't go well. She was sitting with her back straight, hair in a slick bun. She had a skirt on, a turtleneck, big chunky glasses. Her, Roman and Honey were academics in a room full of soldiers and men of war. With their stupid dictionaries and stupid papers, all written in gibberish. Price was mad. Honey, who took control over the situation, was trying to explain their findings to the captain. Behind the three, stood Scotland, Simon and Kyle, along with two other people. Scary stuff, it felt like they were being interrogated. They got new information about the mission. First of all, the Serbian group was talking about transportation. They were talking random numbers, they all suspected drugs. 160 grams per unit, 663 grams per unit. They started wondering which substance they were talking about, since the shipping was intended to reach different countries, and it was going to be pricy. One hundred thousand per unit. Cocaine, meth?

'So you have no idea what we're dealing with?' asked Price.

She was fed up with the captain verbally abusing her and her colleagues, so she spoke, 'You know, they're not talking about shipping tons of heroine like they're talking about football captain', she was raising her shoulders, 'They're discreet.'

'Okay, what are you suggesting we do then, Jude? You guys have made no progress.'

She stopped him again, 'We did, we just told you…' she pointed at Roman's notes in front of her, 'they're shipping single units in separate containers, they're using trucks to make separate shippings, we know it's something expensive…'

She was calm, collected, she was fucking hot as hell. Simon stared at the back of her head as she controlled the room, she was assertive. She was tense, he could see the muscles in the back of her neck. 'You have two days', Price had said. When she got up from the chair she was too mad to even acknowledge him. She turned towards the other two translators, he didn't know who they were. They said something in italian he thought, they all knew italian? They left together. All three.

She didn't even look his way. What, cause she was pissed at Price it meant she was pissed at him as well? What did he do? He thought they could maybe talk, she could share more of what they found... Maybe these two new friends she was working with were taking his place, she didn't need him anymore. He watched her leave the room like they didn't know each other, and he felt a strange pressure on his chest. She didn't look his way, like she didn't care that he was in the room. And she was the only thing he was concentrating on every time they were together so... What a shame.

It all happened so fast, one random Tuesday at 5pm. Honey tapped his hand on the desk three times, she immediately turned around, getting tangled in her headphones. Roman spilled some tea in the attempt of running from his desk to Honey's. 'Shit shit shit', someone whispered. Honey took off his headset, turning up the volume so that everyone could hear. It was a male voice speaking, he was speaking broken English.

'At four, пет, не знам.'

She glanced up at her colleagues. She understood what they said. They said 'four or five'.

'They want job clear and fast, да, добро'. Clear.

Honey was scribbling on a piece of paper, trying to get everything down as the man spoke.

'Read that, да, not many men. како се каже, English… code, secret. Secret.'

He went on for a minute, when he finished they all went back to their stations, at the speed of light. The reason was, if some soldiers went to different rooms to speak about the attack that was just announced they could share thoughts and information, they had to be at the top of their game for the next thirty minutes. She put on her headset, trying to calm the beating of her heart that she thought could explode out of her chest. She heard Serbian, she heard English. Someone said Видим се. See ya, that was the translation. 'Alright…' someone whispered.

'Oh, oh porca troia raga…', that was the clue for Honey and Roman to quickly turn towards her.

Her eyes luminescent, her ears burning, quick fingers typing on the Word document in front of her.

'A job at four or five, don't know the date, they're shipping something to Iran, circa 20thousand maybe more, cocaine and something else, but I'm not sure…' It was Madison, she guessed, referring that information to them. He was whispering into the recording device, speaking quickly so that he could leave that spot without being suspicious. 'Sending you a copy of the paper, gotta go, they have prisoners, poor people, they're all sitting in a room…they're killing them, they want to kill them…' He soon after stepped out of the toilet.

She finishes writing, and got up. She looked at the two other people in the room, just as surprised and shocked as her. Shocked and happy, they finally got something. Shocked at what they just heard, people, prisoners…

'Job at four or five, are they selling drugs?' Roman asked. 'To Iran?' She tried, Honey understood immediately what she was on about. 'No way! Fuck, poor people in a room?' He covered his mouth with his right hand. She had never heard him swear, or lose composure. 'Honey, they're doing something for the Iranian at four or five, they're paying them to do something.' She got up from her chair. Poor people in a room…

'Holy shit…' That was Roman.

'I thought they were gonna attack them, sell the drugs at higher price'

'Hold on, sorry…' Roman got up as well, a piece of paper in his hand. 'What we heard on Sunday, about the shippings. They're selling stupid amounts, look…' He got closer to the others, a paper with translations and calculations in hand. 'They're shipping to loads of countries, nearly 5 pounds, 4 hundred thousand for 5 pounds of what, heroine? Why are these prices so high?'

'Cause they're not talking about drugs. It's the poor people in the room.' She got it.

Her blood went cold. It was true, they had been going on about refrigerated containers, moving trucks that could fit tons and tons of materials inside, too large to go without being checked, too risky to use for a bit of marijuana. They were dealing with larger objects. Pricier material, fewer pieces. They had people to kill… No… They had prisoners, people in a room. The Iranian paid them cause they had the people. She clicked her tongue, shook her head. This was above them, this was… too much. It was the people.

'It's organs. It's organ trafficking.'

'Oi are you even listening?' Ghost turned his head towards the voice on his right, Johnny was walking beside him heading towards the hangar. 'Wot?' He said, an annoyed tone. 'I asked how many?' He wanted his head to explode, he had a migraine, he was tired, Johnny was speaking… 'How many what?' He raised his voice. He had things to do, reports to finish, he had to pack cause he was about to leave, and he didn't even know if he was deployed, they just told him 'in case we need help' and it was fucking stupid, did I mention he was tired? 'How many units per container, why are you not listening?' He rolled his eyes, they were walking towards Kyle. 'They're late cause of a bloody sandstorm', he informed. They had to wait for all the soldiers who were still in Al-Jareena to come back, they would have a meeting with Price and apparently Shepherd was back for a while.

'Where's Thomas?' Johnny asked, Kyle shook his head. 'Couldn't make it again, he still has problems with his back.'

'Ah shit'

'Oi, did you get that email about that human rights convention and what not?' They were walking beside him, they were not shutting up. He craved his bedroom, his childhood bedroom in the UK, he craved silence, he craved warmth of a fireplace and a steak…

'Did you get it L.t.?' I didn't. I don't care. He said no.

'You never answered my question, I was trying to do the math'

'What question?'

'How many units of drugs per container did they say, heroine or cocaine, cause the weight would be different...'

'I don't know, whatever Alba said.'

The ceiling collapsed, the floor crumbled under his feet, his body falling though the abyss of Hell. Blood rushing to his ears. He watched as the two men's faces went from shock to fear. They stopped in their tracks.

'What the fuck?'

'Who the fuck is Alba, mate?'

'How do you know?'

'No way, Jude is Alba?'

'No fucking way, it's her you've been seeing?'

'What do you mean, you're going out with her?'

Before he could register the immense mistake he had made, he heard a voice. A sweet, sincere voice. He heard the voice he normally heard in his dreams, in his mind. The two men were soon forgotten, she was coming his way. 'Hey!' She shouted. She stood in the middle of the hangar, making a few men turn towards her. Her, in all her grace, her dark aura, her aura of power and knowledge. She looked pale, she looked… she was crying? She looked scared. Watching all three soldiers stop and look at her, she signalled them to follow her with a single nod of her head. Come with me, that was the signal. 'All three' She said. They followed like they were some damn dogs.

'Are you out of your mind!?' Price's voice was loud, his hands on his hips. They were inside the listening post room, him, Johnny, Gaz, the captain and the three scientists. 'What?' She raised her voice as well, he had never heard her like this before. 'Literally, what is your problem?' She spoke to the captain, crossing her arms. Price went on for a few minutes scolding the three academics. The accusations and the theories on organ trafficking were serious, and they had always talked about drugs, why were they abandoning that route? 'Because it makes the most sense, captain.' Tried Honey. He showed Price the list of all the weights and measurements they had heard about, which, as they discovered, fit quite perfectly the average weight of kidneys, lungs and hearts. 'That explains the refrigerated containers', she chirped in. 'And the prices', Soap, unexpectedly, gave her a nod of credit. 'And the poor people', finished Honey.

They explained it wasn't rare for poor people to get into situations such as organ and human trafficking. They could make a lot of money, they were easy to convince, easy to manipulate and desperate. It all started to make even more sense when they found information in Serbian news articles online about people disappearing in the latest few months. They found many individuals started reporting to be victims, or suspect family members to have had illegal surgeries for organ trafficking. 'They said they're receiving a note with a code of some sort', she was standing on Simon's right, near her desk. Her hair was messy and undone on her shoulders, she glanced at the time on her phone from time to time. Have you got somewhere to be? 'Probably containing information on when the shipment might be made, or what to do with the people they're gonna take the organs from'. The room was filled with silence. It was sad, really. They were glad they made the discovery, but overall, not good news. Price crossed his arms, looking down at his feet. It was clearly more than they were expecting. Simon would't take his eyes off Alba. He was proud, he was sad she had to deal with this tremendous job. She looked at him. He gently tilted his head foreword, as to say, you're good. He didn't know why it was so important for him to let her know that he supported her. She gave him a small smile. He felt they were feeling the same emotion somehow.

'Will you be able to translate the code?' asked Price.

'Sure, yes, we'll do everything we can.' Honey.

Price sighed.

'Good work.'

Here's the changes seen in The JOJOLands and some context behind the changes below.

Papaya is considered a common breakfast food in Hawaii. Some consider it the unoffical fruit of Hawaii alongside pineapples (the state has no official fruit though). There are many types of papayas that are grown there and the most well-known variety in Hawaii is the rainbow papaya; all papayas consumed in the United States come from Hawaii and papayas are grown year-round, even quite openly on the islands. Papayas are easy to grow and its smaller size means one person can easily consume a papaya by themselves. Not much is known about how the papaya came to the islands but the fruit has become a huge part of Hawaiian culture and the Hawaiian economy ever since its arrival. Hawaiian papaya is known for being sweet and tender, usually eaten raw with a spoon. The seeds can be eaten raw as well and they're usually used in more savory dishes due to its peppery flavor.

When writing Katakana, a V sound can either be written with a B character (ベ, be) or with an actual V-equivalent character (ヴェ, u-e/vu-e). ヴェ and other V-equivalent characters are relatively new in the writing system, as the V sound is historically written as a B sound. Speakers would acknowledge the B sound in this context would be said softer so it sounds closer to V, but many continue to use B characters to write V sounds to this day. In this case, ヴェ sounds closer to the sound "ve" than "ベ" does to it, so the change was made to show that. The interpunct/nakaguro (・) is an intentional pause. There is typically no space between characters in written Japanese, but this pause would be used to intentionally make the reader pause and explictly state the space between the two words. Depending on the context, ・can double as a coordinating conjunction (and, or) and be used like a comma, colon, semicolon, etc. You commonly see this with Katakana when someone is trying to write out a foreign word that sounds better with a pause between the characters. Capital letters do not exist in Japanese. Words that need to be emphasized is written in Katakana instead. The exception is if the writer wanted to use Roman-ji to write capitalized words for aesthetic reasons. Araki has been playing around with how Paco's Stand is to be written before settling with this change. This updated name spelling could also be an attempt to curb copywrite issues given the Stand name is after a popular song.

ASPD is only diagnosed to patients that are over 18 and usually they were previously diagnosed with CD in their childhood to confirm the ASPD diagnosis; the CD diagnosis must be done before the patient is 15 and it only becomes ASPD when CD symptoms still persist or has escalated by the time they are an adult. Interestingly, CD is often difficult to quantify/properly diagnose and there is no major difference between CD and ASPD (it all boils down to which age gets diagnosed to what). It's still considered incorrect to diagnose someone under 18 with ASPD nonetheless, but the diagnosis remaining as ASPD might be regarding this difficulty to diagnose (or something sketchy). Another thing to keep in mind is that not every individual who is diagnosed with ASPD is also a psychopath or diagnosed as one in addition to ASPD, so the change indicates this clarification. ASPD means you cannot control impulses towards doing things against society's expectations (lashing out, committing crimes, hurting people's feelings, etc.) but you can still feel empathy and realize what you did was wrong while psychopathy means you lack feeling guilt or empathy in addition to being unable to control impulses. Both can mirror each other and both are theorized to be caused by genetics and/or childhood abuse/neglect among other possibilities.

being the son to the incredibly gifted baseball player seungho young is exactly what you imagine it would be – the sport becomes part of your world. running around training facilities , family day out on the field , random pictures with your dad's old teammates , several signed memorabilia of all stars on display on some dusty mantle in your childhood home.

two years into his career , the youngs welcomed their first born child beau. as first time parents in the middle of baseball season , it was definitely a challenge. luckily for the youngs , they had their families pour in their support and was with the two while seungho was away traveling with the team. it was all hands on deck , and as much as charlotte young wanted her husband to be there to be witness to beau's milestones – what could she do ? getting in the way of seungho's dream was out of the question. so she gave beau as much stability as possible through his grandparents and extended family.

even with his dad getting traded to boston two years before he chose to retire , it wasn't just the three of them anymore. beau got introduced to his younger sister on a snowy night , christmas lights glittered outside of the hospital room. it was like coming home to a tree that had presents stacked underneath. pure joy and giddiness filled the room. the tears that both seungho and charlotte spilled once he held his daughter in his arms. it was a moment that he got to have with his new daughter that he didn't get to have with beau. beau looked on to the scene , holding his mom's hand a bit tighter than usual. maybe it was because he missed her , maybe it was excitement. but who would have thought that this was going to be a defining moment in both beau and seungho's lives ?

as time went on , beau excelled in baseball. starting out with t - ball and progressed through all of the youth leagues while playing for school's baseball team as well. it was his life and something that allowed him to spend time with his dad. which , sadly enough , it was the only times that he was able to spend with his dad. life after retirement from the league was a much smoother transition than seungho imagined it'd be. he first tried a hand at being a real estate agent , trying to be home as much as possible , to be a father and husband. although those efforts were mainly felt by his daughter and charlotte. beau would be left to his academics and after school activities. growing up , there'd always be an undeniable feeling that something was missing. he'd never to fully put his finger on what it was but all he knew was that it'd go away when he was able to spend uninterrupted time with his dad ... which was always baseball related.

once beau had finally decided to go to college and be serious about a career in baseball , it was almost like a flip had switched in his dad. all eyes were on him. while it felt a bit overwhelming , he accepted it easily. making sure he kept up with his studies in college and kept up with his training. was it a pain in the ass to have his dad hover over him especially after a bad game ? sure , but beau figured it was all in effort for him to succeed. this had to be the most that the two have spoken , let alone show this much interest in beau's career.

being one of the top rookie prospects in his draft class , his career in the major leagues followed the typical path: start out in the rookie team then play for the minors and wait your turn to make your official debut to the major league. after being drafted by the new york mets in 2018 , he played in the team's minor league affiliates until he was traded to the los angeles dodgers in 2019. after playing for a few months on their minor league team, he made his major league debut in the middle of the season. although , years after playing for that team , by the end of his fourth season in the league ... beau gets traded to the new york yankees after an altercation with one of his teammates. was it his fault ? absolutely not. he actually just defending himself , he's not the type to let frustrations fester into something like a fight. but who was the one that got shipped out to the east coast ? him 😔 just caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

⨯ basically has issues with his dad that have not been acknowledged .. hell , i'd even go as far to say that beau has no idea that he has a need to prove himself to gain his dad's attention / affection. don't get him wrong btw , he has no bad feelings towards his sister. he adores her and will protect her at all costs. you could say that he's definitely closer with his mom and sister. ⨯ his dad stopped working as a real estate agent and is coaching for st. john university ( a d1 baseball team ) so yes , maybe beau is dealing with some conflict or whatever but honestly it's nice to have a breather from his dad hovering over him .. and yes .. he still hovers in beau's big age ⨯ what did the fight with his old teammate on the dodgers entail ? probably disappointment from losing the post season series to the padres. there was just tension in the locker room then beau tried to be positive and guess where that ended him .. in a fight where he had to defend himself. didn't start it at all. but no way was he about to let himself get pummeled when he didn't do a damn thing 😭 ⨯ he plays for the yankees now , he's a center fielder for the team and wears the number 22 on his jersey , which is an ode to his dad's jersey number. before getting drafted , he was in school for business at clemson ⨯ guys , he's a Softie™. just look at his big three lmfao like a double water sign ? Cancer Sun ? just generally a really nice guy , the social media team for the yankees can rely on him to do whatever silly bit they need him to do for the tiktok account ⨯ keeps to himself for the most part. busies himself with training and might have a silly cook with me account on tiktok. other than that , social media consists of the reels / tiktoks of him cooking and whatever endorsement deals he has , other than that ? a few personal instagram posts ⨯ during the off season while he was on the dodgers, he liked to hang back home with his friends and family in boston. even though he had a place in new york that he frequented more towards the end of the off season. but after being traded to the yankees , he's primarily stayed in the city

Queen Salacia (For those who don't know, in Roman Legends, Salacia was the Goddess of the Sea as well as the Actual Wife of Neptune (her Counterpart was Amphitrite, a Greek Goddess who was Poseidon's Wife). However, considering that the Franchise has secretly done an Alternate "Wife Swap" idea between the Consorts of the Greek/Roman Sea Gods, Salacia did appear in a Cameo of the Third Movie, regarding if it could be truly her or not. There was also a Semi-Design of Her through Concept Arts behind the Third Movie that I did found through ArtStation by 3D Developer (Michael Defeo). Vienen mejores días

La música que escuché durante el 2023 y me salvó del hastio y la soledad.

Según mi Spotify Wrapped este año escuché más de 100,000 minutos de música. Aparentemente, mi estabilidad emocional depende de escuchar tantas música y tan fuerte que no haya espacio para ningún pensamiento intrusivo.

Les dejo una lista de los discos que me acompañaron en este proceso. Como siempre, tremenda presencia femenina y queer.

The Art of Forgetting (2023) - Caroline Rose

Caroline Rose ya no quería hacer música después de su última ruptura amorosa. A pesar de eso, hizo el disco más íntimo e introsprectivo de su carrera. En una entrevista dijo que componer y producir estas canciones era necesario para salir del abismo.

Pienso que el proceso creativo se alimenta de las grietas supurantes del corazón y se digieren ideas en forma de grandes albums.

El trip comienza con una guitarra acustica lenta y misteriosa con la premisa Love/Lover/Friend que me parece una hermosa manera de escribir el título de una canción, pues por sí sólo cuenta una historia.

El titulo del álbum proviene de la canción Miami, cuya letra hace referencia al libro The art of loving del psicólogo Eric Fromm. En muy resumidas dice que el amor es una habilidad que debe practicarse y es la forma más eficaz de superar la soledad.

Cierra ciclos y aprende a auto-amarte, el mensaje del último track de cuando por fin sales de la oscuridad y ya puedes devolverle la llamada a tu abuela para contarle que estás bien.

Hago incapié en el uso del piano, arpa y cuerdas en las composiciones y recomiendo escuchar el disco en orden, pues narra el viaje de sanación de Caroline.

Skinty Fia (2022) - Fontaines D.C

Fontaines Dublin City, fue una recomendación de Paco y Uli, pues en OLD VVAVE somos fans de los estos jóvenes irlandeses.

En la portada aparece una especie de venado originario de Irlanda que está extinto y el cuál utilizan como una referencia a sus raices. Escribieron este álbum durante una gira mundial en torno a lo que sentían de conocer tantos lugares nuevos pero nunca pisar tan firme como en su tierra natal.

A diferencia de otros discos que escuché, este me parece que tiene un sonido homogeneo en vez de canciones independientes y transmite perfectamente la nostalgia, ese sentimiento que no es tristeza sino más bien es extrañar la felicidad, porque sabes que alguna vez fuiste feliz.

La lírica es menos directa y con referencias más ambiguas, a los otros discos de mi compilado. Con Fontaines yo dependo de lo que me transmiten las armonías más que del contexto de las letras.

He tomado como inspiración personal la melodía de las lineas de bajo, el uso del pandero y la forma de hacer las voces de la primera canción: In ár gCroíthe go deo.

Me los perdí cuando abrieron a Arctic Monkeys en la CDMX, pero espero vuelvan con un show ellos solos para que podamos disfrutar también de los albums anteriores que traen rolotas como Boys in the Betterland y I Don't Belong

the record (2023) - Boygenius

Boygenius es ÉL supergroup. Es una banda compuesta de artistas cuyas carreras como solistas ya son de por sí exitosas: Lucy Dacus, Julien Baker y Phoebe Bridges.

Se conocieron cuando estaban de gira con cada uno de sus proyectos individuales y por admiración mutua decidieron colaborar por primera vez con el EP homónimo-homosexual boygenius (2018).

Durante 2023 conquistaron la escena de lesbianas deprimidas con the record que ya para este punto está cónsiderado en todos los charts como uno de los mejores discos del año.

Cómo olvidar cuando Barak Obama compartió sus canciones favoritas del año e incluyó Not Strong Enough en su top. Lucy tuiteó que le daba asco ese criminal de guerra. Eso enamora.

Las letras son instrospectivas, hablan de ansiedad, adicciones, amor, desamor, amistad, querer ser mejor persona para los demás pero al mismo tiempo somos un desastre y eso está bien, pues somos increíbles.

Es un proyecto muy honesto y fresco que pasó de cero a no-puedo-vivir-sin-esto en un segundo debido a la flexibilidad vocal de cada unx de lxs integrantes, que en conjunto es magia pura.

Volcano (2023) - Jungle

10 años de hacernos bailar y Jungle regresó en 2023 con Volcano, tremenda explosión lávica de sampleos de las décadas de los 70, 80, y 90 aplicados dentro de las canciones de manera tan orgánica que no se sabe donde termina una referencia a una canción y donde empieza la composición original de otra.

Los videos fueron mi primer acercamiento a un disco que te cambia el humor instantaneamente hacia ese sentimiento naranja radiante, dan ganas de vivir en ese mood por siempre.

Es toda una azaña acompañar cada canción con su respectivo video en una serie que más bien es una película con coreografías filmadas en una sola toma.

Sus discos siempre son buenos pero este está un peldaño arriba por el regreso del sonido setentero, los cencerros, los bajos y sampleos.

MATARONOMATAR (2019) - Luisa Almaguer

Si son consumidorxs de Spotify, les recomiendo darse una vuelta por su sección de Descubrimiento Semanal. A mí me sorprendió con uno de los mejores proyectos que México tiene para ofrecer: Luisa Almaguer.

Su música no se puede encerrar en la jaula de un género. A veces trip-hop, a veces cumbia y otras veces slam poetry pero siempre en transmutación.

Tuve la fortuna de conocerla y comprarle una playera en La Marketa, un mercado que organiza Now Girls Rule cada año donde se presentan proyectos mayormente conformados por mujeres y disidencias. Me presenté como su fan, claramente.

Además, pude ver su show en vivo antes que terminara el año, teloneando junto con Valgur a Descartes a Kant en la CDMX. Fue aún mejor que escuchar el disco en plataformas. Luisa aprovecha los descansos entre canciones para hacer uso del micrófono y la captividad de la audiencia para hablarnos de cuerpos disidentes y mentes neurodivergentes, pero sobre todo de la violencia que enfrentan en la vida diaria.

Su voz tenor con efectos modulantes y letras oscuras resonaron en mi pecho. Las armonías disonantes dan un tono trágico a sus canciones de amor, nada básica, verdaderamente.

Favs: Mataronomatar, Azotea y Básica.

DAMALEONA (2023) - Vanessa Zamora

La música de Vanessa crece como un árbol con raices fuertes resiste todo y florece.

Este albúm no tiene debilidades y para mi parecer marca un antes y un después en su carrera. La tijuanense conceptualizó una figura alzada, una estrella intocable, indiscutible. Se autoproclama Damaleona y al mismo tiempo nos entrega en las canciones una profunda vulnerabilidad.

Con el talento de saber tocar varios instrumentos, podemos escuchar piezas donde toca piano, guitarra acústica y eléctrica, bajo y sobre todas las cosas, una voz que se expresa sin miedo.

Favs: CONTRACORRIENTE, REPROGRAMAR Y NADA

Ahora (2023) - Melenas

Melenas es una banda de chicas de Pamplona, España que ya tiene un rato tocando y han estado en Primavera Sound y SXSW por mencionar algúnos festivales importantes.

Este año conocí algunos sencillos justo antes de que liberaran el albúm completo Ahora, el proyecto que actualmente promueven con una gira por Europa y es el más ambicioso hasta ahora para las chicas. De este lado del charco no las conoce mucha gente, lo cuál tristemente limita la posibilidad de verlas en vivo.

Utilizan sintes ochenteros y un sonido de órgano que me remontó de inmediato a la extinta banda gringa The Organ quienes centraban su sonido alrededor de ese instrumento.

Me parece que tocan con un teclado Yamaha de los 80 sin modificar el sonido pero con batería acústica y guitarras eléctricas, logrando una atmosfera moderna pero retro.

Favs: Dos Pasajeros, Bang y Mal

PRE PLEASURE (2022) - Julia Jacklin

¿Qué sensación vendrá antes del placer?

El agua de los escusados de Australia gira hacia el otro lado, o eso me enseñaron Los Simpson.

Julia escribe desde Melbourne pero pareciera que su lírica surge más bien de sus entrañas. Sin filtros habla sobre su relación con la religión, el amor, la salud mental, su madre, y la amistad. El álbum fue producido por Marcus Paquin de The National, quien ayudó a que las canciones ya de por sí auténticas, reflejaran su atemporalidad.

Mi canción favorita no está aquí, es el sencillo de Shivers que lanzó después del álbum que empieza diciendo "I've been contemplating suicide, but it really doesn't suit my style".

La canción habla sobre lo terriblemente vanidosa que es su chica, tanto que es casi un espejo de ella misma pero aún así tan sólo escuchar su nombre le provoca escalofríos. Queerness at it's best.

Aunque la conocí con su más reciente álbum: PRE PLEASURE, el que me atrapa bastante es el de Crushing (2019) que también aprovecho para recomendar mucho.

Registros del Amanecer (2023) - André Cravioto

De Aragón para el mundo. Un bebé multinstrumentista pero con el corazón puesto en la baterá, André nos compartió un par de sencillos durante el 2022 y 2023 que finalmente serían incluídos en su álbum debut como solista.

Avant Garde, experimental, vocal, jazz, y progresivo. Pienso que Cravioto nos enseñó una pequeña parte de lo que puede hacer en estas 8 canciones, por lo menos a mí me dejó la sensación de esperar a ver qué sigue después del amanecer en este largo día.

Actualmente colabora con una de mis favoritas, Luisa Almaguer en la batería pero la he visto colaborando también con Real Venus, de Argentina.

Encima, tiene uno de los proyectos más ambiciosos fuera la industria musical, el Jam de Morras, que se enfoca en promover música hecha por mujeres de forma independiente.

New upcoming period drama: Operación Barrio Inglés

Co-produced by RTVE with Onza (El Ministerio del Tiempo, Parot, Hernán) and the Andalusian production company Emociona Media, filming begins for Operación Barrio Inglés, a new intrigue drama for the TV channel La 1.

Spies, Nazis, British and a risky love story set in Huelva in 1940, a city where the conflicts of World War II are reproduced on a smaller scale.

Synopsis

World War II has just broken out.

Although Spain is "neutral" under Franco's dictatorship, Huelva is a strategic enclave to control the ships of both sides that cross the strait. In addition, it has an important British colony. For this reason, the Germans send members of the Secret Service to control what happens in the city, especially in the mines in the province of Huelva, owned by the English, and which provide Great Britain with ore for weapons and artillery.

In this way, Huelva becomes a veritable nest of spies from both sides, among whom the young Lucía is forced to move. She has just turned 25 and has been hired by an English mining company to work in their offices as a secretary.

There she meets the company's manager, Peter, an attractive Englishman with a dark past who drags Lucía into an adventure in which she will be forced to take sides. When you're in the middle of a war, being neutral is not an option.

Filming

Operation Barrio Inglés will have as its settings the old dock of the English mining company and the area of Tinto River and its open-pit mines, as well as the Bellavista neighborhood in the town of Minas de Riotinto, the port of Punta Umbría and the Mazagón beach in Huelva. In Sevilla, among other locations, it will be shot at the Monsalves Palace, and in other areas of the city and province, and also in different parts of Jerez de la Frontera.

About the mines and their location:

This is the Tinto river, its waters are red due to the high concentration of sulfur and iron oxides in the land (it happens the same with the red lagoon of Mazarrón's mines, Murcia), although it's duscussed if the mining activity has been increasing this characteristic, its water are very acid and are poluted with heavy metals.

The Tinto river (ancient name: Luxia) starts its flow in the Aracena Mountain Range and after 100 km joins the Odiel river (ancient name: Urium) at the height of the city of Huelva.

The mines have been exploited since pre-roman era, by Iberians and Tartessians, to obtein iron, copper, magnesium, silver and gold, which improved trading with the Phoenician, Carthaginian, and Greek colonies that were near to this site (in fact, the city of Huelva was founded by Phoenicians, and it was called Onuba), and eventually the Carthaginians took control of the mines after their expansion throughthe Iberian peninsula. Later, it became one of the most important mining areas of the Roman Empire.

By end of the 19th century, due to económico crisis the Spanish government sold several mines to English Companies, and one of them was the Riotinto mines, who were bought by the Rio Tinto Company Limited (RTC) in 1873, as they were looking for metals that were very demanded in the country due to its high industrialization (in contrast, in Spain the industrialization was scarce and the two main regions in which it was developed were Catalonia and Basque Country)

The RTC was the builder and owner of the railway line that connected the mines with the port of Huelva, where it built a mineral dock to facilitate the unloading and transport of the extracted material by sea to England.

In Riotinto, the luxurious and exclusive neighborhood of Bellavista was built for English personnel, it was a Victorian-style neighborhood that was endowed with tennis courts, golf courses, its own cemetery, a Social Club or even a Presbyterian church.

Huelva capital will also develop under the English influence. The numerous workshops and facilities built by the RTC that gave work to more than seven hundred workers, such as the railway station, changed the appearance of the city and contrasted with the rise of a new bourgeoisie of both Spaniards and foreigners who found themselves linked to the company. The power of the company became such in the city that civil buildings depended on the interests of the company.

Proof of this are the Reina Victoria neighborhood, as a garden city that welcomed part of its employees; the construction of Casa Colón, which ended up becoming the headquarters for the company's offices; the disappeared English Hospital; or the gigantic mineral pier located on the Odiel River. The English population introduced football, being the Huelva Football Club the first football team in Spain, founded in 1889.

In Punta Umbría, the British managers of the Rio Tinto Company Limited (RTC) erected rest areas for their employees. Since 1883 some constructions were carried out in the area, in wood and of the bungalow type, but it would not be until 1896 when the RTC was granted the possibility of establishing houses in this area, to which many RTC employees and their families went in summer to the beach through the Riotinto railway.

In 1943, the corpse of Glyndwr Michael, a Welsh homeless, disguised as a British Marine oficer called William Martin with information about a fake plan of the Allies to attack Greece was found drowned near the coast of Huelva, in Punta Umbría. This was part of the Operation Mincemeat to distract the Nazis and attack Sicily instead. Operation Mincemeat was a important plot in episode 3×02, Tiempo de Espías, from El Ministerio del tiempo. Well, although in the episode the original Operation is cancelled and a character named William Martin later takes the place of the original "William Martin", so the Operation success.

Years later, in 1954 the Riotinto mines returned to national property, under the CEMRT (Compañía Española de Minas de Río Tinto)
