Nah I stand with Porter on this one. Those wizards at the mall? They were consumed by rage, they were nothing BUT rage. Braining in their friends with their staves for no apparent purpose. Its directionless and thoughtless.

But my guy Porter? He uses his rage PRODUCTIVELY. He channels it in a violent way, sure, but Porter also channels it in a productive way. Man is a legendary level Adventurer with some deeds under his belt, and a pretty tight relationship with most of his students. And even with Gorgug. I mean, you head him at the end of the Vulture Episode. He’s so proud of how smart Gorgug is! He’s so proud of how well he can use his talents!

But remember why Gorgug wanted to become a Barbarian? It was so be could stop raging. That he wouldnt break stuff and hurt things, that rage was bad and needed to be beaten. Porter was trying to push Gorgug into allowing himself to be angry, without being ashamed of himself afterwards, to accept that yeah - you have a right to be angry some times and to express it. Its natural and cathartic!

But you have to keep it in check. Lydia has been in a literal state of Mind Bending Fury for two decades now, but she has a handle on that shit and can channel her rage for good.

As for the MCAT? That was more of Porter being like ‘come on man, stop rejecting a key part of yourself.’ A key feature of being a barbarian prevents you from the key features of an artificer and from a purely mechanical perspective? Probably the third worst option. But I bet that if Gorgug had that attitude he had - oinking at that cop and expressing himself when he was upset instead of bottling it up - from the start of junior year, Porter would’ve signed his MCAT.

Now that Hopclap mother fucker? Yeah I don’t trust him AT ALL. Where’d those red crystal arcano tech underneath the stage come from? And if Grix hasnt been messed with since construction, maybe the issue is that he was constructed with faults designed from the get go? Wouldnt be surprised if he also helped alert the other Rat Grinders to Yolanda investigating

It might be nothing but Gorgug getting angrier as his stress tokens going up… makes me concerned.

The stress points looking like rage stars… too many coincidences if you ask me. Maybe as stress rises they’re accidentally lending more power to this mystery rage god? Gorgug as a barbarian would be the easiest to corrupt with rage, especially with the sheer amount of academic pressures (some put on him by Ruben’s dad ((relative??? Idk but they have the same surname? Maybe brother?)))

It would be so heartbreaking to see a sweet guy who offered a flower to a jerk (no offence to Fabian) on his first day of school fall into a pit of rage.

Also, I don’t think we know what/who Porter is a paladin of? A man trying to promote rage? Who has intentionally pushed Gorgug to his limit to incite rage?

Maybe Fig was right the whole time.

Let’s get something out of the gate - as a Stone Genasi and Oath of the Ancestors, if he was connected to any of the Giant Gods, it would probably be either the one tied to Fall or Spring (My money is on a Cloud Giant for spring and Stone Giant for Fall) and NOT the summer oriented Fire Giant God. It’d make more sense that his Oath of Ancestors means that he’s probably tied to the Stone over the Fire.

And this is all assuming that Porter worships a Giant God - the man isn’t even a giant. Lucy was a Genasi who followed a Giant God, that doesn’t nesacarily mean that Porter is also a Genasi following a Giant God. Anyways - Rage.

Do you think that Brennan Lee Mulligan thinks Rage is bad? Like, this id a narrative and it has a message - and that message probably is not going to end up being ‘Anger is bad.’ Because it ISNT.

alright let’s go over the junior year clues we got in the rick perry documentary thing (disclaimer: i’ve definitely missed stuff, but i think i got the big things, feel free to reblog and add with stuff that i missed though)

We get a blurry look at some minis. I’m seeing at least the PC’s minis, as well as what looks like Baxter the Gryphon.

There’s some major shots of this battle. Includes a Baby mini, the Hangvan with some kind of laser canon on top, a stingray-esque monster that is likely Night Yorb (see below), something that looks like maybe an ice elemental or the crystal (see below), and some large bugs and shirtless people. Clearly set in the Red Wastes. Detailed info of the planning for this battle below.

One of the shots had reference boards in the background. One is clearly for the Hangvan (see earlier screencaps), but the other is unclear. It looks like it includes some sort of tennis or tennis-adjacent sport.

Confirmation that Mordred Manor is a set piece.

Finally, one shot showed Rick’s computer screen with some critical info about planning. I’ve put what I’ve been able to decipher below the screencaps. and under a cut, as it’s very long.

I know the fandom at large wants gorgug to go berserk and go off on Porter, but I would honestly prefer gorgug to just stand up for himself with his words. Gorgug only ever uses violence to protect people, never to lash out if he can avoid it and I feel like betraying his character just to get respect of a teacher who wants that from him would be the worst option.

I want him to stand up for himself and ask Porter questions. To refuse to bend to expectations and state that his rage should never be a tool simply used to instill fear because that's not what his parents taught him and not what he wanted of himself. Gorgug wants to be good, he's a kind boy who loves his friends and made a cell tower just to talk to his girlfriend. He's a guy who multiclasses to show how much he cares.

He's not a barbarian like Porter and Porter is a classic barbarian so he doesn't see how that can be useful. He's never seen gorgug in the field making his own version of rage work. I want gorgug to stand his ground on who he is damn the consequences. If Porter respects him whatever. That's what I hope.

I think Brennan did something interesting with the Porter and Gorgug scene in the last episode. Porter is by all appearances a competent Barbarian teacher. He understands the role of Rage and its mechanical combat benefits, and he even recognizes how Gorgug uses Rage to protect those he cares about. But he doesn't understand how multiclassing into a caster fits into that framework.

And it's true! In 5e you can't cast or concentrate on spells in a Rage. But-- Artificers work a little different than other casters! Alchemist Elixirs and Arcane Cannons aren't technically spells. Arcane Armor just works. And so does the Steel Defender.

Of any caster I think the Artificer is probably the best-suited to multiclass Barbarian because their key subclass features are largely not spells. But it also runs into the problem of requiring multiple high stats. Barbarians already want high STR and CON, and Artificers need INT for their spells and spell saves.

And so there's this narrative tension here. Brennan the DM obviously wants to let his player have fun with the character build-- embracing the creative artificer side of himself is a great character moment for Gorgug, bearer of the tin flower. Someone who has always channeled Rage to protect those he cares about but who has also been called to create and preserve beauty.

And yet mechanically, it's a difficult build. We didn't see Gorgug cast anything in the Night Yorb battle, as far as I recall? And in-universe, classes are a formally recognized thing that require approval. But Gorgug can't be the kind of Barbarian that Porter wants him to be. So he has to show that he can be a different kind of Barbarian-- one whose magic integrates and synergizes with his Rage rather than opposing it.

We see Gorgug still insecure about his homunculus and about the solar lasso, even though these are objectively impressive feats. So it's not a skill issue but an internal conflict-- it's only once Gorgug reconciles and synthesizes his magic with his Barbarian side that the in-world powers that be will recognize him for all of who he is.
