Oh, how you hate that man. Sure, he's your squad captain, a man of higher authority (whose also rather attractive because of his rugged looks..), but you guys have this odd tension whenever you cross paths. You despise him.

It's never been said aloud, but everyone knows you two are practically enemies. You banter and tease each other, throwing passive aggressive comments to one another, always disagreeing with each other's opinions.

And with a mission gone wrong, you arrived back at base, bloodied and bruised, being carried over to the infirmary by nearby medics that had been alerted of your severely wounded state prior to landing in the helo.

You didn't know how long you were out, but when you roused from your slumber, you sat up slowly and groaned in pain, clutching your side with shaky hands. You'd been wrapped in bandages and taken care of by the sweet little nurses while you were unconscious, but you were sure you'd get an earful for the next week and a half once the old bastard found you.

The med bay was pretty empty, aside from a few nurses lingering around - you could hear them in the other rooms. Your side wound aches, so you sigh as you close your eyes, laying back down. "Fuck.." you murmured under your breath, replaying the mission back in your head. Although, your thoughts were abruptly interrupted by some familiar stomping, by a familiar someone.

"For God's sake, Y/N -- look at you!" Prices voice angrily boomed as he entered the small room. "What happened out there? You could've died!" He berated you as he walked over to the medical bed you were in. You growled quietly, your eyes squinting open and immediately seeing Prices exasperated face in your peripheral vision, but there was something else in his gaze that made you raise a brow.

"Captain.. I just-"

"No, I don't wanna fuckin' hear it." He snapped, but you caught his gaze soften, his eyes wandering to where your injuries were the worst. "You could've died out there." You heard him grumble, his tone softening enough to make you almost flush in the cheeks..

You didn't understand though, thought you hated this man. He was a grump, a tease, a bitch.. but you've remembered now that he's also your captain, and that he does actually care about you. You found your heart beating a little faster as time went on, and you finally found your voice to reply again.

"I know, captain." You replied in a slightly quieter tone, to which he sighed, turning away from you and rubbing his temples. "Jesus, Y/N.." he muttered, eventually turning back to you and looking you in the eye. "Don't you dare risk your life like that again, you hear me?" He inquired, almost instinctively putting his hand gently on your arm. You looked down at his calloused hand briefly, before looking back at him with a subtle smirk. "So you do have a heart, Price?" You jest, and he just groaned and rolled his eyes, a tiny grin daring to tug at his lips.

Danmei and Baihe C Novels and Manhua Officially Licensed in English

Things are getting licensed fast enough that keeping a list like this up-to-date is basically impossible, but I saw someone asking in the tags so I figured I'd try. All titles are danmei unless otherwise noted (very little baihe is licensed so far). I've included Chinese titles, but sometimes publishers change the original titles so much that I can't track them down, apologies. I've hit the link limit on this post so I've had to remove NovelUpdate links, but they're still in the version of this post on Wordpress. Note that Taiwanese titles are not included on this list.

This is everything I know of as of October 24, 2024. There might be more. I tried. Resources used to compile this list: Danmeinews.com; this Carrd, last updated in March 2023; this other carrd last updated October 23 2024; list of danmei with official licenses on NovelUpdates; a similar list on Goodreads; danmei-specific list on Reddit that to my eye looks accurate for the larger publishers but isn't thorough for some of the smaller ones.

Seven Seas:

These titles are in various stages of publication, from "entire series released" to "license literally announced less than a week ago." As far as I know, all Seven Seas titles are available world-wide, through major distributors and libraries, and in e-book and print formats. Seven Seas translation quality varies but the editing is general strong and the editions are sturdy and nice. Note that Seven Seas isn't without controversy, especially for treating their contractors poorly resulting in them unionizing. Some people have also been unhappy with the fidelity of their translations compared to the original Chinese (I've been satisfied personally but ymmv).

Rosmei licenses are Singapore distribution rights only. There is a list of international partners organizing group orders here. I've personally placed my orders through Yiggybean, as discussed in reply to this ask. Most of these titles are only being released as print editions, tho titles that weren't originally on JJWXC (of which there are several here) WILL have e-book editions. My first book from Rosmei arrived, and I found the translation and editing to be very strong. I can't speak to how accurate it may be to the Chinese original, but it read smoothly and had very few errors. Overall, though they've made some mistakes, they've been communicative and responsive.

one thing that really fascinates me about alex is his devotion to art – and more specifically, how he chooses to get some inspiration from scientific works of what he aims to implement in his art. every time one gets to examine some of his lyrics, or even how he explains these lyrics in an interview, they can be greeted by some bits of actual scientific information. an example is how he named his taquería on the moon with the term “information-action ratio”, coined by the critic neil postman, and referenced it in the song four out of five, something that might also indicate an interesting articulation with postman's concept. the line “cute new places keep on popping up”, for example, can express his well-known sardonic discontent regarding the flood of information being generated and transmitted over and over and, as much as it seems visually appealing and does give the idea of benefiting from advanced technologies, it doesn't really add anything substantial to the receiver's critical thinking – and worse, it distances the information receiver from the sender in a communication channel, according to postman.

what i'm saying with this interpretation is, it's known that alex is enamoured with the idea of gathering a bunch of references and condensing them into a mixture of metaphors in his writing, but it's so thrilling how, at times, we can find some bits of science inside of it – and it's even more exciting, just like playing a puzzle game, to find these references and analyse them by doing a similar research to what he did to create his works.
