Starting with his parents I don’t think they are bad parents at all they tried to help him as much as they could but they couldn’t so they opened up other options and let him move away and heal even if he’s not with them I think what the did is a good choice for their situation and their relationship would still be great tbh considering the distance

hello! :) the anatomy in atc isn't really a part of the status separation. i made a point not to focus on that. you can have people of any body sort in any of the three statuses, the main "difference" is in the scent (which can actually be inaccurate from birth—see: meng yao) and the fever cycle (which isn't always present either, or not always in the same way—see: wen ning), the perceived general outside traits... but like with gender irl those traits are way overstated (like women being shorter than men—tons of women are taller than the average man, it's not even uncommon). wei wuxian in standards of beauty doesn't conform to a lot of these assumed traits, and some others don't either (wen yueying, wen qing...).

wei wuxian is intersex and able to become pregnant, but i won't be developing overly much on how that presents itself for him appearance-wise because i think it's rather in bad taste to obsess over that. he has a vagina and a womb, if that's what you're desperate to know. his being intersex manifests in other visible and invisible ways in his body and i've decided on all of it, i did so from the beginning, so i know what they are, but i don't think the readers need to know. there are cis kunze (wen ning, xue yang, meng yao, etc) and trans kunze (luo fanghua, wen yiqian) but gender isn't an actual point of discrimination or differentiation in atc. the whole concept of gender has been replaced by the concept of statuses. so gender is kind of like just another physical trait, like hair color or height or just clothing choices i guess. it doesn't mean anything wrt discrimination, and biology doesn't either.

i'm not gonna pretend it's a super well-developed and failsafe AU in that regard because frankly it's impossible to just completely rewrite gender-based discrimination with fantasy gender-based discrimination. but i didn't want to focus on genitalia because 1) genitalia isn't all there is to gender-based discrimination irl, far from it, 2) i find it weird and i don't want to do it. this way i get to allow trans and non-binary(*) characters to exist within any status. win-win.

Ahh I really like Animation, Horror, and Comedy shows/movies, especially analyzing them. I kind of want kids in the future? Edge of Sleep Plot Holes

please do not read this post if you don't want spoilers or noticing plot holes ruins your experience of the story!

its not my intention to shit on teos. i just thought some ppl might find this interesting like i do!

okaaaaay fellow peeps that pay too much attention to story plots!

lets start with the tame ones shall we,

1. name confusion:

this one is most definitely fixed in the show but in ep2 they call the 16 year old John. but in ep3 when linda is doing the autopsy she calls the 16 year old Dewain. i think they accidentally mixed up his name with the old patient with heartburn.

2. papua new guinea:

linda just k n o w s where the island dave is referring to is and how long its gonna take to get there with a plane???? how???? we dont get ANY description where linda does a quick google search or idk any other clue as to how she'd know that. i hope they give her a phone in that scene in the show so she can do a quick search cuz that was just weird to me tbh.

now on to actual plot holes...mostly about linda...they definitely could've worked on her section more tbh!

3. internet:

in ep2 linda asks dave to give her a ride bc her phone isnt working. since they can still call each other and even linda herself calls the hospital later in the story, im assuming she means her internet isnt working so she cant get an uber.

but that raises the question of how linda managed to google those victims' names in ep5 if they didnt hv any internet before. now i dont know how things work in US so maybe there is a very simple explanation but where i live if your cell data isnt working then the wifi isnt working either.

4. linda and dave finding out that sleeping kills people:

when linda calls the hospital to confirm her hypothesis that sleeping is whats killing people and she finds out that her co worker is dead, why doesnt she call the hospital again to let them know?

they had already set up tension between her and the doctor/other nurses so itd still make sense for the stroy if they dont believe her and leave. but it doesnt make sense for linda's character who is written as the "voice of reason" and the "calm and collected one" to not share her findings with the people in the hospital.

in my humble opinion, the scene where dave calls matteo by the hospital hoping he is still awake, shouldve also happened when they find out that sleep is the answer...or rather the anti-answer lol.

if linda and dave called the hospital and matteo by the car it wouldve made much more sense and also shown us a more compassionate side of them both. now being in shock and confused by all of this is absolutely an option for dave but linda was calculating from the start so its very out of character for her to not warn others.

6. night owls:

a lot of people are awake at 4 am. some ppl work night jobs just like dave and matteo and some hv insomnia or woke up for an early jog. it absolutely makes sense for most of those ppl to be back to their houses and asleep by 10 am but linda and matteo driving around the city and not seeing A Single Person or Any Shops open at 7 am is impossible. some drug stores are opened 24/7 and even if the cashier is asleep/dead, the doors are still open. not to mention that some ppl r driving back from their night shift around that time.

if the time when they drive into the city was around 11 am most of these problems wouldve been solved bc by then most ppl would be asleep.

5. the timezones:

if the...lets call it 'the attack' was at 4 am in california then its 7 am in the east coast and the day has already started in the other side of the country like nyc and dc. not to mention the rest of the world. in the first day at least half of the world is still alive and alerted about the fact that the other half is dead.

and even in the west coast some ppl r still gonna be awake and scared. yes most of those ppl wont survive by the third day but there would definitely be survivors in the first day or so.

other people can and probably will figure out that sleep is whats killing everyone just like linda and dave did and even tho most of them wont hv the supplies our protags hv (like the modafinil or a private airplane with a trained pilot...or a whale telling them where to go...) some could actually hv even more physical resources than dave and the group.

there r 7+ BILLION ppl in the world to assume that these four r the only ppl (other than the tribe of course) that r still alive especially in the first few days is ridiculous.

now why does that matter? bc dave is presented as the middle man. the one who is both empathetic but also mostly logical. he isnt too positive neither too negative, but realistic. so for him to constantly say and genuinely believe that they r the only ppl alive breaks the immersion and makes the story feel artificial. for someone like dave not to wonder what happened to other ppl who r out there struggling and instead believe everyone is already dead by the second day is unrealistic and too apathetic for his character.

not to mention that it makes the world way too centred around our protags. that usually happens when most of the story is from the first person perspective and i KNOW that its supposed to make us feel as isolated as they r feeling but again, its a bit too much and makes the story unbelievable and artificial. instead of living on earth they r living in a snow globe if that makes sense.

6. parasomnia + REM sleep behavioural disorder:

this one is less of a plot hole and more of a "plz explain this in season 2" thing.

there r other ppl with dave's disorder. so does that mean the old man also contacted them? did any of them join the trible in the island?

or is dave special like they foreshadowed by the fact that the tribal people had dreamt of him?

(also i know we hv spirit monsters in this story so not everything is "logical" but does the fact that there r sleep walkers mean that the ppl that r dead can be revived? bc they were walking and talking and u usually cant do that if ur brain is burnt...)

so i started the show because my best bud @clonecaptainrex recommended it to me and i just on a whim started it. i had no idea what it was about, all i'd seen was random stuff about roy (cuz he's every fuckin' where ;) ) and jason sudeikis was in it. ive loved sudeikis on snl over the years but i'd not seen him in much else.

pretty soon after i started watching it - i fell in love w/ ted's character. i was already intrigued because he's an american football coach and ive had this football coach fantasy since i was?? 11? maybe? of marrying a football coach alkgjsgsj cuz i LOVE football (go cowboys!) so that was the first thing that got my attention.

if ur reading this im assuming you've watched the show. or maybe not! but if you do watch it - then you know how SWEET ted is. the overall sweetness and dorkiness and THE PUNS got me good. im the pun queen of my friend group and all of ted's dumb lil puns and dad jokes had me in tears.

there's such a comfort w/ ted tho. warmth. he's like a warm tight hug or a mug of hot cocoa in your hands, sweet to the taste. he's happy, eager, FUNNY. even when ppl are awful and unkind to him he still forgives them and smiles anyways. even when it hurts. and whenever anyone hurt him i was ready to burn the world down for him.

the way he remembers things about people?? the lil treats and gifts he makes? one of my biggest things is i often feel 'overlooked' and he's the type who wouldn't like that happen. and it's like?? knowing that he'd look after me had me emotional. he's such a hype man. and toxic masculinity who?? wearing nail polish to practice cuz he wanted to help rebecca find the right color??? and how when he slept w/ sassy she noted how EAGER he was to please her?? omg every word out of his mouth made me laugh or smile and my face would hurt after each ep just from smiling. he's encouraged me?? and i just. he lifted my spirits so much my therapist even noticed.

and his anxiety issues? omg. that spoke to me and i get him. it made me hurt for him. but i love knowing that he would understand. but even still he's positive thru all the pain he's been thru - and that's why i try to do in my life. this is the more~ personal part but ted makes me feel SAFE. you're not waiting around for the other shoe to drop. and he's NOTHING like my dad who i have tremendous issues w/. ted is so nonthreatening and that's not like brownie points for him - i just love how that makes me feel.

sudeikis is tall and has more of a normal/dad bod body type and i LOVE. ive always been into tall boys and he has hella chest hair which if you know me is like. my thing. yeah jason can get it LOL but this just plays into more reasons why i love ted ya know? w/ like,,, every other fictional character i love - there's always a thirst element. if yall know me then you know oscar isaac is My Dude. and ive seen every little thing he's been in and thirsted over it all (not to say i don't love domestic and fluff hcs just as much as thotty ones) but like when i saw dune i had a full on crisis over duke leto spitting on the table. but w/ ted?? WITH TED?? he makes me feel like im in 6th grade and the guy i have a crush on just said hi to me and i wanna go home and scream into my pillow and talk to my friends about it for an hour. i almost CRIED thinking about holding ted's hand ok. i honestly don't remember the last time i had a crush like this that felt so ?? innocent?? or just like LGKJSKHJGWHJGKJAH about his whole being?? not just how he looks or thirst or whatever. it's like? thirst was an AFTER thought for me w/ ted. it's almost like i couldn't HANDLE thinking about it. something about it feels different w/ him and?? idk how to put it into words.

but here's the real kicker - sweet ted is a southern boy. and im from the south too. hearing his southern accent gets me feeling all kinds of ways. seeing him hold the door open for women and his just general cheery attitude and his southernisms is all such a comfort to me. i KNOW ppl like him. he's what southern ppl should be like, and they do exist.

Most ppl I've talked to have discouraged me from both in favor of doing some science shit and writing on the side cuz financially it's kinda unstable but anyway I was wondering what you think

Okay, I'm going to start this off with please please please do not make me the only advice you listen to on this. You asked for my thoughts, and I'm going to give them to you, 100% honestly. Just my own personal opinion. That does not mean that you should necessarily listen to me just because I'm a person you might admire(?) online. In fact, I'm about to say something that you're probably not going to like.

I dropped out of college. After five years of changing my major a bunch and not ever graduating, I dropped out due to covid-19 complications, six weeks before I would have graduated with a B.S. in Psychology. I had completed over 150 credits in a university that requires 120 to graduate, but they weren't all in the same major, so I never actually graduated. I went through majoring in economics, computer science, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, and eventually psychology with a medical focus. I had no idea what I wanted to do, and I hated school because I didn't know why I was there.

My opinion on this shit now? I encourage people to not go to college unless two things are true. One: They know what they want their next (not necessarily final!) career to be. And two: That career requires a college degree.

Not every career requires a college degree. Some require trade school or a certificate, and some don't require any higher education. Writing is ... an interesting one. What are you wanting to do with your writing? The hard fact is that a B.A. in English probably isn't a actually going to help you be a novelist. The things you learn in school while getting that B.A. might, but you can also just ... teach them to yourself without going into debt. There are some things like performance (acting/singing) that don't necessarily require a college degree, but (from what I've heard) it might be worth it for the connections you can make while in school. Connections in writing could be helpful too—literary agents definitely pay more attention if you're a referral—but honestly I'm not certain how likely you'll be to make those while at college?

Science shit usually does require a college degree, but ... if you're not interested in it, that's going to be 4+ years of suffering through a major you hate in college, plus however long you stay in the field after that.

I'm going to say right now that I think you should absolutely pursue writing as a career. Hands down. If that's what you want to do? Yes.

That being said, that doesn't necessarily mean an English degree. And ... unfortunately, pursing writing as a career usually does involve a "day job." In fact, most published authors are ... not rich. A lot of those authors that you see on the shelves at Barnes & Noble—not the big name ones, of course, but many of them? They still have day jobs.

Advances on a debut novel are often around $10,000. And yeah, that's a lot of money! But that's $10k for the months or years that went into writing, editing, and publishing that novel. And you don't make any royalties until you earn out that $10k. Also, that's pre-tax and with no benefits.

I know this sounds harsh, but yeah. Many authors have a day job. Does that have to be science? No. It can be anything. But it is totally possible for you to go to school for science shit or anything else that interests you, and while going to school and working after, still be writing on the side. Or you could try to find a career/trade that's mindless and gives you time to think about your writing. Maybe something with your hands, or number crunching. Whatever works for you. But if you're interested in science, that could be a good "for now" plan!

No career needs to be final. No college major needs to be final, either. If you start school for one thing—or even if you graduate and start a career in one thing—that doesn't mean you're stuck with it for life. Maybe you decide to go for the English degree, and realize ... I already know all of this shit. They're making me read and write things that are taking the fun out of it. So don't stay! Change your major or drop out.

Adults are going to tell you (I'm assuming that you're ~18) that this is an important time of your life, that these decisions are going to affect your whole life, blah blah blah. And yeah, you know what? Every time is an important time of your life. Every decision you ever make impacts the rest of your life. So fuck it, man. Do what you want to, and if it doesn't work out, try something else.

I sometimes regret going to college at all, but at the time I made the decision that I thought was best for me. And that's what you're about to do, too. And it'll work out in the end.

There is def everything u mentioned and also the whole cultural phenomenon of women needing to be young and beautiful forever to have any worth. It's so weird on so many levels! 18-25 year olds are so fetishized and held to such high regards in beauty that you have all these children now trying to look like they're adults on top of grown women trying to look younger and youthful always, meanwhile guys are allowed to age normally lmao. And the way you will see so many grown men preying on those literal children too telling them that they like them cuz they're "mature" for their age, and then older men not going after ppl their own age but younger girls, it's all so disturbing. As for yan!Venti, oooh he’s interesting! I think the combination of deredere and yandere is always so chilling. One minute: sweet and happy. The next: cold and serious. But I don’t think Venti would slip into a cold state all that much! He’d be a very clingy yandere, always wanting to be around you, pestering you to spend more time with him, and even finding ways to distract you from your work so you’ll pay attention to him. Of course, he also values freedom so he doesn’t want you to feel confined and shackled to him (since it goes against his beliefs). Rather than that, you’re free to go about your daily life without any issues, but Venti does disrupt your schedule with his own clinginess. He’s like a puppy in that regard, constantly seeking your affection and praise.

But he might unintentionally manipulate you without realizing it. Or maybe he does finally realize that tendency but doesn’t do anything about it because it’s so effective. Either way, he’ll pout and act sad, saying how much he’ll miss you when you’re gone, and it tugs at your heart because you don’t want him to be upset. So you either have to let him tag along or just stay with him. All of that eagerness can be suffocating, though, and he’s probably bound to spoil you with that cheery generosity of his (i.e. creating songs dedicated to you, collecting your favorite flowers, and if you like to drink he’ll be more than willing to drink with you). 

There’s so much more I could write about yan!Venti because he has a lot of potential! But I don’t want to ramble on and on. lol

due to my desire to not completely fail all my classes this year i made myself slow down significantly while listening to this season, and the fact that the other person i'm listening along with had to catch up. We've managed to convert several other people to start listening and its pretty great.

Elias feels a lot like Michael in the sense that he knows more than he should and talks in a way that implies he just wants to wait and see how things play out for his own benefit. First of all, please don’t think that you are being overly sensitive. I find that no matter what you feel about anything; your feelings are always valid. You just need to not let those feelings cloud your judgement/actions. Ask yourself why you feel the way you do and if your reasons are irrational then you shouldn’t judge or act irrationally or at all. And if your reasons are rational, then you should judge or act accordingly, in a reasonable way. And being negatively affected by (intentionally or not) homophobic bjyx fans is perfectly sensible. You could try to explain to them why they should stop fetishizing queer relationships but I also think it’d be understandable to try and just steer as far away from such people as you can if such people or such a topic just hit too close to home.

That’s a new take for me, ngl. I never considered that. I always just think most bxg don’t have a bias between gg and dd but assuming those gross ones are dd biased... yeah, that definitely checks out. It’s hilariously ironic, though, cuz we - bxg - believe ggdd is real, largely because of how differently dd acts around and treats gg. He acts like an adorable puppy around him. He has that “cool guy persona” around pretty much everyone except gg and yet, bjyx fans push their dynamic on ggdd. It’s ridiculous. And they constantly nitpick or twist/change reality to force the bjyx dynamic on ggdd. They basically have to because it’s not even close to real life. Not to mention, they conveniently ignore anything that doesn’t fit their bjyx agenda. No matter what their exact reasons are for treating ggdd the way they do, though, I can’t think of anything that justifies it. If they so badly want to be dd’s girl, they should just do what dd’s solo stans do; ship him with any of his female co-stars and use those as their self-insert instead of gg.
