another parallel i'm seeing between spn and the borgias is the fact that dean is parallel to Juan, both have a more open and playful personality unlike sam and cesare who are more reserved and distant. This is definitely due to the trope where brothers are polar opposites of each other.
no nooo you're into something! it's kinda intriguing when you think of it despite dean being the older brother and juan being the younger brother but in this case, both of them happen to be impulsive and hot headed, never think beforehand whereas cesare and sam are calm, calculated and like to foresee things and plan for them.
while the winchester brothers are smart, sam tends to be more intelligent. similarly the borgia brothers are both clever, but juan is less cunning yet he has the ability to improvise while cesare prefers planning over recklessness. which makes the younger winchester brother and the older borgia brother alike!
we could also squeeze out that juan and sam share striking similarities as younger brothers symbolized as abel to their older brothers' cain, and both likened to sacrificial lambs in their respective narratives...
#one thing about me is that i love connecting the dots between my favorite shows and parallel their characters#and i'm glad some people are indulging this as well#spn#supernatural#the borgias#sam winchester#dean winchester#juan borgia#cesare borgia#anon#messages

I once saw someone say we should take the word precocious away from Taylor because they didnāt like these two lines being on the same album:

As if these two lines arenāt in conversation with each other?
You heard a verse that made you think of another verse in another songā¦ and you thought that was bad writing?
#it was a post like ādid she just learn the word or is she just obsessed with us knowing she was precociousā#and the answer was a secret third thing! she was writing lyrics!#sorry as soon as I put those lyrics together they made me sad#I read about it when I was a childā¦ and in many ways I am still a child.#at the very least I think you can see the direct line between bdilh and I hate it here#as a side note my other favorite lyric parallel is#āI wanna snarl and show you just how disturbed this has made meā in waolom#and āI was in my tower weaving nightmares/turning all my smiles into snarlsā from cassandra#sheās telling a story and Iām reading it I donāt know what else to tell you#sorry you didnāt pick up on a lyric parallel just think about it for ten more minutes#anyway I have no idea who posted it or where or when I just think about it sometimes

after your boyfriend jaemin shuts your car door for you, he quickly loads the trunk with your picnic date necessities before hopping into the driver seat.
jaemin planned a cute picnic date for the both you all by himself. whenever you asked him if he needed your help planning or doing anything for the date, he would say, "no, just pick something cute to wear. i'll handle the rest" with a smile.
this happens often, jaemin always taking charge for planning every single detail when it comes to dates. today, he was prepping your lunch in a bento box for the picnic and when you tried to help him cut the fruit, he would lightly push you away and make you sit down. you pouted and insisted on helping him, but eventually you gave up since you knew jaemin would never give in.
jaemin grabs your hand over the console of the car and starts to drive to your favorite park for dates. on the way there, you roll down your window to soak in the sun and let the wind through your hair. the stereo was playing jaemin's playlist, which you loved as he had the best music taste and it fit the vibe for today.
you watch jaemin expertly parallel park his car on the road, hand on the back of your seat, eyes and jaw set in focus as he slots himself perfectly between two cars.
"great job~" you both say in sync, making you laugh at how jaemin complimented himself on his parking skills.
as you unload the car, jaemin has no choice but to let you help him but he only lets you carry the blanket (the lightest thing he brought). you both settle on a spot that's half shaded by a large oak tree and half in the sun. it was a warm day but there was still a small breeze in the air that made the temperature perfect.
you and jaemin work together to lay out the blanket that could easily fit 4 people, but you know that you and jaemin will be pressed together the whole time that more than half the space will barely be used.
finally, jaemin takes out a bento box of the food he prepared himself. you gasp at not only how much food there is, but also how beautiful it all looks. onigiri balls, savory ham & cheese sandwiches, dessert sandwiches with the strawberries cut to look like hearts when cut in half, kimbap and other picnic essentials are fit perfectly into the 3-tiered bento.
"jaem, this look so good!" you exclaim, grabbing a grape from one of the boxes.
"anything for my girl," jaemin smiles at your excitement at his food before pecking you on the cheek. he can always count on you to praise his cooking, even if it's the simplest thing like a sandwich.
you give him a quick peck on the lips before digging into the lunch jaemin prepared. of course, jaemin insists on feeding you some bites here and there and his habit of opening his mouth when feeding you shows itself making you giggle each time. as you eat, jaemin watches you as your eyes light up when your favorite flavors hit your tongue and laughs as you dance a little at how happy you are in this moment. he brings out his camera to snap a few pictures, most of them you're looking at jaemin behind the camera shy and telling him not to take pictures of you eating.
"whyy you look so cute," he says snapping another picture of you with a grape in your cheek and your cheeks flushing at his compliment.
as the boxes clear out, jaemin brings out two coloring books, your new favorite hobby. he pulls out a box of markers from his picnic bag and sets them between the two of you.
you both start coloring a page while laying on your stomach, but jaemin keeps getting distracted by you. he keeps snapping pictures of you coloring the page, smiling and hair falling over your face (jaemin tucks it behind your ear ofc).
jaemin's page is completely abandoned as he wraps his arm around your shoulders and watches you color your page, offering suggestions here and there which you take.
as you finish the page, jaemin exclaims, "IT'S PERFECT!" one of his many exclamations whenever you show him a completed coloring page. you laugh and push his shoulder.
"what? did i lie? it's perfect!" jaemin continues, you know he's saying it in a joking tone but really means it.
"no, you didn't lie. of course it's perfect, i made it," you reply proudly in return.
now its jaemin's turn to laugh. you smile at him before kissing him on both cheeks and the lips. jaemin lays down with his hands under his head and you laying on top of him. you share your moments of comfortable silence mixed in with random conversation.
as you start to draw hearts with your finger in random spots over his chest, you hear from him say, "i love you too."
"i love you more," you whisper kissing his neck.
"not possible," jaemin smirks.
as you're about try to fight him about it, jaemin interrupts by grabbing your face and kissing you. guess you'll have to let him think he loves you more.

dog days part 1 or 2!
por quƩ no los dos. I kinda consider it one big update anyway lol. this one might get long, I'll stick a readmore somewhere
i was insane for this. the comic will probably never be this decorated again but I had to do it at least once š I try to give each era it's own subtle stylistic flair, though this is definitely the most overt one. I'm still really proud of this update!! sometimes I think I burnt myself out with this so bad tho that the first half of ch2 is pretty low on ornamentation bc of it. it takes like. a lot of extra mental energy ngl
it's slight but this whole interlude has a paper texture the rest of the updates don't :-)
there's lots of patterns to talk about here. twili patterns for the panel where wolf is zoning out.
the pattern on the sides is kind of an abstract depiction of Ordona, although her light orb is in her hands instead of the horns. I was also riffing off the patterns on a lot of the Ordonian's clothes. The green parts are pumpkin vines! those generally represent wolf himself
this is the dinner I reference at grandma's party in pt. 8
the pumpkin vines change into these kind of gold-leafed vines I often use to refer to zelda. They do this a few times throughout the update.
small detail I should include more often- wolf fidgets with his earring when he's bothered by something or thinking hard.
Lots of people have translated this in the reblogs so I won't do it here, but it's essentially a summons from Zelda to the castle. It's intentionally a little difficult to parse- Wolf is not from Hyrule. I like to imagine a difference between written Ordonian and Formal Hylian. Wolf can read it, but it doesn't come naturally. Also, Wolf is referred to as "Sir Link Goatherd of Ordon" where "Goatherd" could be both an occupation and a surname (that's actually the origins of surnames like Gothard, which I considered using)
Zelda's full name in the letter is Queen Zelda Celestia Nohansen Hyrule (though I think I write it as "Of Hyrule"). Idk if this makes sense actually, but it was meant to be a nod to the fact that TP is a parallel timeline to WW. WW had King Nohansen, so I imagine that as part of TP Zelda's lineage.
Wolf agreed to be a Royal Knight on the basis that it was only a formality, but then Zelda started actually summoning him to things anyway. He basically ignores them all, but they've been coming with increasing frequency. In Zelda's defense, the political situation she's dealing with trying to rebuild the kingdom is pretty tense. She could really use his help.
my favorite part of this update!! I feel like there should be no easy way to use the shadow crystal. if you want that power, you've gotta shove it in your forehead yourself! and yes, it does hurt. His ears flatten a little in anticipation. also sidenote I think this is the best I've ever drawn him lol
I like to think Yeto and Wolf are still buds.
I think whenever Wolf wanders like this, he frequently finds himself in the desert. He's given up on looking for shards of the mirror of twilight, though.
The vines get yellow as they reach the bottom of the page- Wolf's time to hide in wolfmode is running out.
little baby spirits of light hidden in this page, except ordona
who's hiding on this page instead! while Link the Cat reminds Wolf it's probably time to go back to his family in Ordon.
Wolf can't turn back into a human on his own, so he has to return to the sacred grove to reach the master sword. And yes, Skull Kid makes him play hide and seek every time š
those are midna's hands on either side.
this pattern has the organic shapes of the world of light, rather than the geometric twili patterns, showing that Wolf has immediately clocked that it's not a portal to the twilight realm. but alas, it's too late to turn back.
In terms of the timeline, while Loft and Slate trek across Hyrule to Hateno, Wolf is lost in the Lost Woods.
I wanted to put Ilia in this update more but this ended up being the only time she showed up lol
and that's all I've got! if you read all of this i love u

Since you've discussed your favorite parts of ep. 7, I'd like to know your biggest criticisms of it & how you would've addressed them.
[Referencing this post!]
*raises finger* (my lawyer pulls me away)
Hereās how I would change the ending (while still staying within the Disney + mobile gacha game restraints and sticking with the themes + patterns established by other OBs):
Rework all the dreams. Every single last one. I canāt count the number of issues I have with them. Between the inconsistent pacing (4-35 parts per boy), the lack of urgency, extra fat (irrelevant convos), frequent contradictory explanations of the dreams, and the on-the-nose announcements of how each boy has changed, these are horribly inefficient vehicles for storytelling and need to be significantly tightened.
Between each dormās dreams, cut back to Malleus and Lilia so they at least STAY relevant for a book that is supposedly about Diasomnia. Let us know what Malleusās current state of mind is, have Lilia reflect on what itās like to see Malleus twisted intoā¦ this. Something, anything.
Make the explanation for the dreams consistent. Instead of changing the explanation or slapping on new details every other update, just claim right from the get-go that dreams tend to pull from a dreamerās wishes/desires but itās unknown how the dream worlds will actually be interpreted or how theyāll interact with Malleusās magic since each person is so different. You can still have the dreams with deeper hidden meanings, but avoid overcomplicating the logic governing dreams in the first place.
Have Lilia join up with us in the dream world. Maybe a scene where Ortho or Idia connects the dots on his identity and contacts Lilia using his Muscle Red gaming ID tag in the dream world. Lilia receives his invite that way and joins us for the battle maps + help Silver and Sebek train with their new equipment. You can also potentially use this section to have Silver and Lilia reconcile over Lilia keeping secrets from him.
Like how Sebek had moments with the first years in their dreams, give Silver moments in which he can reflect on his relationship with + thoughts on the Dawn Knight. It feels a little strange to me that we went from emotional breakdown learning about his lineage toā¦ thanking the Dawn Knight for not taking Lilia away at the end??? Like it feels like we missed the middle part of that development. We never got to hear his inner thoughts about the ordeal or how he comes to terms with it. For something so heavy, youād think there would be more screen time dedicated to that??
The sword strikes Malleus, which brings him back to his senses but doesnāt break the horn. (This is just a personal dislike thing; itās uncomfortable for me because it inevitably reminds me of poor injured animals and thatās not exactlyā¦ fun š¦)
Lilia still gets in the way of Malleus and Silverās final stand-off, but rather than dying, heās in critical condition and is in very real danger of dying.
Have Malleus willingly sacrifice a significant chunk of his magic (since he has all that excess from the senators blessing him + Malleus even canonically says heāll give up his wings, his lifespan, etc.) to bring back Lilia from the brink. This would serve multiple purposes: 1) permanently power cap Malleus, 2) show him that his previous actions actually hurt Lilia but he also has the power to do good too (so heās not filled with complete despair at the end), 3) rids him of the excess power he didnāt ask for, so now heās more āapproachableā to people, 4) doesnāt bring up potential issues with reviving the dead, since this could be categorized as ultra powerful healing magic, and 5) parallels the self-sacrifice Lilia had for him, that Silver had for Lilia, etc.
Honestly, I think Lilia should move away to the Land of Crimson Long to retire instead of regaining his magic and returning to NRC as a student. That way, Malleus isnāt the āspecialā OB boy that doesnāt have to still deal with the thing he OBād over. Have it end on a hopeful note though, like have Idia or Lilia showing Malleus how to text (which is now more feasible due to Malleusās reduced power) so he can always reach out to Lilia at a momentās notice. This also fits in with the theme of keeping connected.
Alternative scenario to the previous point: have Lilia be taken away to urgent care and/or in a coma for a while. Let Malleus stew with the weight of what he did. Then maybe he + Diasomnia are called in when Liliaās unstable and this might be good-bye š¦ Idk, at least then Lilia wouldnāt be dead for all of 5 seconds and Malleus would actually have a period where heās forced to sit and reflect on what he did. Worrying and praying that Lilia will be saved, promising to the stars that heāll never act out again if they just save Lilia. (You can still have your power of love saves him moment here!)
Following the OB, give a more balanced view of the repercussions of Malleusās OB. Tell us how other nations are reacting, show us that some people are suspicious of him + need extra help recovering after the fact (in addition to people who love his UM and want to stay in there longer), etc. The current version works overtime to reassure us that there are zero negative (or even dubious) consequences when, logically, there would be at least some. This includes the main cast. Realistically speaking, theyād at least have some reservations or complicated feelings revolving around what happened in their dreams and how they feel seeing Malleus return. Ultimately, theyād welcome him back but some of them would still snark a bit while others are more forgiving (depends on the character; not all of them would react the same way).
We can still have the party + knighting ceremony at the end, but include some kind of magical broadcast or something where Malleus apologizes to all of Twisted Wonderland and lets them know what steps he intends to take to make amends moving forward. In the original, he only apologized to NRC, which I feel doesnāt cover the scope of the lives he could have affected. And if youāre going to have the other OB boys recite their flaws + how pathetic they were wallowing in darkness + how theyāve changed/are better than that now, grant Malleus that same opportunity here. It would also be great if he could go around and acknowledge the important people in his life, including classmates, to show us that he truly recognizes the value in these connections. I do, however, want to caution: the speech shouldnāt sound like Malleus speedran a character arc and is now without flaws. Malleus should also have some lines where he admits heās imperfect and may falter, and if thatās the case, then he trusts us to admonish him and set him on the right path. This would show us that heās willing to give up control to others and that heās being more receptive to criticism.
Add a nod to Raverne at the end??? Like maybe Malleus wonders where his father is and we get some explanation as to why he didnāt show up in the Castle Wildrose memories but his mom did.
I don't think I actually made many changes here; most of the plot points remain, just change the execution and what the focus is on.

type: oneshot pairing: heavily tattooed!yunho x chubby!reader word count: 539 warnings & tags: literally fluff, the tiniest smudge of suggestive content if you squint, super tatted up yunho, oh and he also has a lip piercing, something about a big, tatted, intimidating man who in reality is the softest squish with a chubby s/o??? sign me up!! also this is NOT edited so let me know if thereās any mistakes I need to fix.
note: I do not own the yunho edit, credit to the original owner.

Yunho hummed along to whatever tune was stuck in his head at the moment as he dutifully stirred the simmering pot. He glanced at the clock on the wall, noting that you should be home from work at any moment. As he sprinkled in some spices, stirred some more, and put the cover back on to let the dish settle, he heard the shuffling of feet in the entryway. A smile immediately lit up his face as he turned off the stove and abandoned the pot to greet you. You had just finished hanging up your purse when you were spun around and shoved face first into his chest.
āI missed you,ā Yunho murmured, his heavily tattooed arms loosening up- but not letting go- after a few moments, allowing you to pull away and look up at your boyfriend with murth swimming in your eyes.
āWhatās got you so clingy today, baby?ā You tease, your hands traveling up his arms and lightly tracing over his freshly healed neck piece. He shivers at your touch, squeezing you closer as your plush form squishes against him.
āMissed you all day.ā He repeats and pouts, releasing you but it doesnāt take long for his touch to come back as his big hands cup your face. For a brief moment, his thumb traces your bottom lip and then he leans down to capture you in a bruising kiss. You then pull away just enough to gently tug at the cool metal of his lip piercing between your teeth. He groans low in his chest and finally separates himself from you.
āDonāt do that.ā Yunho chides, no serious heat in his words, taking your hand in his. āIāll get distracted.ā
You smile up at him through your lashes knowingly and he squints his eyes at you, a small smirk pulling at the corner of his mouth. āAnd donāt look at me like that.ā He adds, leading you to the living room. Your boyfriend sits first, maneuvering himself to lay on the cushions across the whole length of the couch. He pats his lap before opening up his arms, a silent request for you to sit. You slowly press your knees on either side of his hips and lay down as his arms wrap around you and crowd you into his chest. Yunhoās favorite thing about you is your soft and pliant skin. You often poke fun at the way he squishes and caresses you as if making biscuits into your skin like a cat, the parallels often coming to your mind every time he does. He doesnāt do it out of malice and never intends to humiliate. He simply loves how supple you are and he makes sure to show you every chance he gets.
āI made dinner,ā Yunho hums quietly, his hands now at their usual home, squeezing your parted thighs. āDo you want me to plate you some?ā
āMaybe later,ā You answer, comfortable and content with laying like this. āKitty Yuyu has to get his squishies in or he might never live to see another day.ā
āYah!ā He laughs, tenderly smacking the side of your thigh. āI never hear you complain when I clock in for my full shift at the bakery.ā

tf skybound issue 14 thoughts / analysis / connections n whatnot. spoilers for the issue 15 preview too.
absolutely gorgeous art
VERY G1 starscream vibes in some places xD... i could practically hear his voice
more of starscream's origin and a bit more of megatron! i like megatron's characterization in skybound so far plus the decepticon cause's. i think skybound's decepticon ideology's gotta be my favorite, it just meshes their violence with their believed righteousness in such a great way.
this issue gives starscream quite a different initial approach to morality than seen in previous continuities (iirc) where here in #14 he is against killing prisoners of war while being a decepticon (often he's with loose morals even before becoming a decepticon).
megatron has the ability to mentally coerce the one wielding him to bend to his will (painfully), which i think is a really cool concept.
this makes starscream's evil directly caused by megatron from prolonged exposure to his influence conditioning/corrupting him. as seen in the mini background panels, over time blasting many Autobots to scrap, starscream grows to enjoy it
i've personally always loved starscream's evil to be completely independent of megatron('s) (as it has been) so i'm a bit conflicted on this aspect of skybound starscream... but i do understand its purpose/role in the story though.
issues #13/#14 run a parallel between then starscream & megatron and present starscream & those humans: both purport to Starscream they want to help him, but in reality they just want to use him for their own benefit. with that then story running parallel to the present one, starscream's dialogue about those humans also reflects upon how he felt under megatron's control
megatron forcing starscream to wield him definitely felt like it was expounding upon a question one might have had watching G1 ā "why would megatron let someone who openly covets his position wield him?" of course, skybound isn't g1 and takes the idea and angle quite differently than the show did. with this it also supplies the reason of why starscream resents megatron and wants to overthrow and kill him.
and of G1, the Decepticons siding with starscream are ones who have sided with him once in the cartoon ā the Combaticons in Starscream's Brigade and Astrotrain in Triple Takeover (and of course, Astrotrain was also the one to crown Starscream in the 1986 movie).
with Soundwave having the Constructicons and Starscream the Combaticons, a cool fight between Devastator and Bruticus is sure to ensue (vol 3 [collects #13-#18 + the story from the 2024 special] is called "Combiner Chaos" anyway)
i will be delighted to see soundwave and his decepticons vs starscream and his decepticons.
soundwave looks to be a megatron loyalist in this continuity and shares a bit of his sentiments (a bit below).
neat how then starscream and present thundercracker both had objections to the treatment of prisoners of war.
not the first time there's been a similarity between them, here's panels (#1 & #8) that parallel each other:
and how they differ:
not 1:1, but megatron's words to starscream reminded me of soundwave's to thundercracker ā a subordinate's objection met with a reminder of their place and that their objection is irrelevant to their superior.
also worth noting, soundwave keeps thundercracker by his side despite his continual disagreements with how things are going, which is similar to megatron keeping starscream (who resents him) by his side.
i'd guess these similarities serve to build up to thundercracker possibly eventually actively opposing soundwave (as opposed to just going along with it) ā here in the #15 preview he gives the humans warning to flee before blasting the building
now, knowing megatron's gunmode has the ability to mentally coerce the wielder to bend to his will... looks like this is what's happening with optimus wearing megatron's cannon arm!! xD. "megatron's cannon arm is influencing prime" has been built up and noticed, but it's nice to have megatron's ability now explicitly shown.
In #5 Starscream comments on Optimus having Megatron's cannon arm, and Optimus has a bit to say to him before blasting him with it.
Many noticed the parallel between Megatron & Optimus's fight in the Energon Universe Special 2024 and Optimus & Shockwave's in #12 as well as his tinged eye color.
Now with #14 we can also see a a similar thing that happened to Optimus happen to Starscream ā Megatron's influence practically forcing their hand, going against what they wanted. Note the green-yellow background gradient suggesting Megatron's mental coercion in Starscream's panels, and in Optimus's panels (above) when his eyes are tinged there's yellow or yellow-green used in the background.
#vynx.analysis#starscream#optimus prime#megatron#thundercracker#analysis#skybound spoilers#transformers skybound spoilers#skybound transformers spoilers#skybound transformers#transformers skybound#i could probably say more but i'll just post this for now#maccadam

I come here late to give my opinion on what Nicole Maines said in her book about the Supercorp fandom (go to Twitter for more info, but she basically gave her point of view of things as a queer actor on the show having expected things from the queer fans, confirmed we were being queerbaited while also blaming us for some actors getting fired). I appreciate her side of things and feel for her. But reading that I felt that A LOT was overlooked, especially the context of it all. So sit back if you care enough to read this and come with me as I go on a rant and we go down memory lane to give some context into what it was like to watch Supergirl live as a Supercorp fan.
The first season of Supergirl had its fair share of ships. People liked Kara/Cat, Kara/James, Kara/Win maybe anyone? I don't remember that one but I'm sure there were people out there who likedĀ them. Some people even liked Alex/Kara (a conversation for another time). Kara/Cat shippers could also like Kara/James, because both ships had some strong foundations in the narrative,Ā they were undeniably good ships, regardless of how you feel aboutĀ age-difference relationships or straight relationships lol. There wasn't mostly an issue, except with the ones that liked Kara/Alex.
In between the first and second season of Supergirl it was announced that a main character would be gay. They didn't say who, though. Speculation began, of course. They did say that Maggie Sawyer was coming to the show but it was not confirmed that she was going to be a lesbian and even less whose love interest.Ā
Then the second season premiered. And in the very first episode Kara Danvers meets Lena Luthor. Their scenes together were filled with sexual tension from the very beginning, look at their meeting scene without context and a bit of an open mind and most people will see their chemistry and think that maybe Kara was meeting her soulmate. And the first scene of Supergirl meeting Lena Luthor? It was already drawing a parallel between them and Lois/Clark, one of most iconic, recognizable and undeniable canon ships of all time. Drawing parallels between these two ships was the creators of the show's favorite pastimeĀ and it started from day one, before the ship had any fans because we hadn't met Lena just yet.
But in that episode we did meet her. And we fell in love fast. Because their interactions and the interest concept of Lena's character were good. Could it really be that Kara was the main gay character? Could it really be that they were going to give us an epic love story with Supergirl and a family member of her family's historically known enemy? Could they dare to make the famous superhero anything other than straight?
It wasn't just a delusion on our part at that time. It was a real possibility based on real facts. Kara had suddenly dropped the guy she spent the entire previous season chasing after. She got him and dumped him for no good reason (the writers didn't bother to give it a good excuse) and in the same episode she meets this woman, at the start of the season we were going to discover a main gay character.
These are all facts.
A few episodes later Maggie Sawyer makes her debut and it's clear that she's Alex's love interest from the first moment. Cool. It's not Kara but at least it's Alex (because, at the time, we know, WE KNOW, that they don't have two lesbian/queer women characters in the same show unless they're dating each other. How could we think that gay people will surround themselves with other gay people? silly us), that was the reaction: We still LOVED that it was Alex, because it still made sense. And it was difficult to find Sanvers fanfic without it having Supercorp in it because we were all the same people, of course most of us liked both ships.Ā
Now, I obviously don't know her, but I seriously don't think that Chyler can say she felt overlooked by the fans that season. Alex's coming out scenes were some of the best we had seen in our entire lives up until that point, and we made that known. Not all of us might have been on board with Sanvers (some storyline choices could've been questionable) but with Alex? No one loved her more than the queer Supergirl fans. And in the meantime Supercorp kept getting screen time, their friendship progressing in a Clois kind of way that was beautiful to witness. While Maggie and Alex's relationship advanced pretty quickly from an "I'm not gay" to a rejection to a proper first kiss, Supercorp was building a bit more organically as Supergirl kept saving Lena's life, as Lena opened up only to Kara, trusting her all the while Kara was keeping this huge secret from her. We ate that shit up, of course we did.
After season two was over we got the news that Floriana Lima (Maggie) was going to leave the show. I remember Chyler saying that she wanted to do right by us and whoever came next was gonna stay. And I'm not faulting Chyler for what came next, at all. Chyler was and always will be one of the best things on Supergirl and she has always treated the fandom with the utmost respect and love. And I hope she only received the same treatment back (and I hate to know she got those letters from people threatening to kill themselves, but let's have a little compassion for those people and their mental health, I hope they're doing well).
So Maggie left. And while some fans were not coping well with that, most fans understood it was the actress' decision. That was fine. What wasn't fine was the decision the writers made by making the breakup about not wanting babies when they were about to get married. How on Earth (any Earth) a couple don't talk about that particular issue BEFORE deciding to get married? It was an easy way out. But okay, it's just a TV show, I don't write it, we can move on from that... In the same season, at the same time this whole discussion and breakup occurs, the very same person who wanted to have kids has a meet-cute with a SINGLE MOTHER, Sam. The story was full of promise, she had a kid already with whom Alex got along amazingly, there was great chemistry between all three of them, Sam also had a dark secret being basically her sister's most powerful enemy, their relationship was mostly well built throughout the entire season. But guess what? She wasn't her new love interest, and left at the end of it.Ā
A lot of Supercorp fans LOVED AgentReign (Sam/Alex), by the way. A lot of Supercorp fans also loved ReignCorp (Sam/Lena) and a few even loved AgentCorp (Lena/Alex) and SuperReign (lol what was the name of this ship? I don't remember but Kara/Sam). And guess what? There wasn't a war between us. We were mostly the same people multishipping because it's fun and because these were interesting characters with interesting relationships created by the writers. We were inventing and wishing for stuff, but the foundations were laid for us, some (most) things were there and most of us were just screaming that we liked what we were being given and wanted more of that.
And that's why come season 4, some people were having a hard time accepting Dansen. Because we were mourning the loss of Sam and her relationship with Alex, the what ifs are always the worst, no matter the situation.Ā But most Supercorp fans embraced Kelly (and Azie, we love Azie and what we got to see of her relationship with Chyler, and Katie and Nicole), the vast majority of us ended up loving Dansen despite the writers not always doing a great job at writing their arcs. And it's awful that some fans treated her and other members of the cast horribly, but that was by far a small portion of the Supergirl fandom in general, and especially the Supercorp fandom. And, by the way, as a side note because racismĀ was part of the problem for a minority of the fandom, A LOT of us in the Supercorp side of it are not white people from the US, A LOT of us are from other countries/races/cultures (that can be racist too of course, but the point is we don't know the races and motives of everyone behind a keyboard).
And that season most of us also embraced Nia because she was the first trans superhero, because of her queerness, because she was an awesome fun character, because she was relatable and geeky like most of us. We embraced her, her relationship with Kara and her relationship with Brainy. And we showed that by trending Nia related things, by adding Nia to our fanfics and fanarts. Nia was a Supercorp ally for most of us and we didn't exclude her from the art because we loved her as much as we love some of the other characters in the show.
Now, if Kara would have had, after the first season, one male love interest that was decentĀ enough, we would have still love and wanted Supercorp, that's true (especially when it had been years of build-up) but most of us probably would have liked the pairing anyway, because we loved Kara Danvers and wanted her to be happy and to have the love she wanted at the beginning of the show (which she didn't get, by the way).
But the writers decided to give her, instead, another man who didn't treat her well. And I couldn't honestly tell you half of William's storyline because I couldn't care less. The creators of the show didn't make me care. Hell, I didn't even see Kara cared enough about that character. The writers should know their audience and should know that the audience needs moments to make them care about the characters, the writers have the power to make that happen. Many times I've seen a fandom hate a character one episode and love them by the next one, because sometimes all it takes is one good scene, or one good arc. William never had that. And now we have confirmation of what we knew all along, that maybe they were writing half-assed storylines for their love interests because they were too busy trying to figure out new ways to queerbait us. If they would have put a quarter of that effort into creating good love interests for Kara and/or Lena (but especially Kara), most of this conversation wouldn't still be happening 3 years later.
We embraced Andrea Rojas, we embraced her so much that we shipped her with Lena. Most of us weren't the blind Supercorp-or-nothing crazy fans a lot of people to this day make us out to be. When things were good, we mostly liked them. But please, please, let's be honest here, a lot of the time Supergirl was not a great-written show. And I get that those are Nicole's friends but a little objectivity, especially after all these years, would have come a long way.
These past few days I've read a couple of people saying Supercorp was the only good thing about the show. Those kinds of people were and still are a very very minority. A lot of us started the show before Supercorp existed and LOVED (still love) the Danvers sisters with all of our hearts. And the writers, at times, didn't know how to keep up with that relationship, the one that at first was the very center of the show, all that well either.
Most Supercorp fans didn't actually like that the 100th episode revolved all around Supercorp. 1) Because it was queerbaiting at its finest. 2) because it should've been about the Danvers sisters. Or at least about all Supergirl's most important relationships in equal measure. Yes, Lena was a big part of her, but ALEX EVEN MORE SO. The fandom didn't make that happen, we didn't fire any actor either. These were decisions made by the people who had the power to make anything in the show happen. If we would have had our way we all know what we would have done, and no, it definitely was not p**n (the most used AO3 tags for our ship speak for themselves).
I didn't see Nicole's last paragraph on the subject shared much. A lot of people didn't see that she acknowledged a small portion of the good the Supercorp fandom did.

But by the time you get to it, you already have a bad taste in your mouth. Because it still reads as if she's talking about us all without a care that "the toxic fans" were just a loud minority. Not to say that the good guys weren't louder, because Supercorp is still what it is to this day because we're still loud. So why is there very little mention of that? The way we supported Nia's episode? The way we supported Kelly's?
And because we were having fun and we were loud about our love for two fictional characters, WE WERE ALSO RECEIVING THREATS from some toxic fans, hell, the day before yesterday some fans were receiving death threats like it's 2017. Everything she says the cast and crew were dealing with, the Supercorp fans were dealing with it as well, and more so because the toxic people felt validated by the choices the creators made. Validated by some writers on Twitter making it worse. Validated by some of the actors who were also mocking us. We were all called delusional, and that was the most chill thing you could be called.
I understand her point of view, and I imagine that was not a great first experience in that kind of set, and I would love to have the opportunity to talk to actors about this topic that fascinates me (relationship between fandoms and cast/crew). But context is important, to see other people's point of views is important when having these conversations. She felt her own community wasn't supporting her when most of us were and that didn't come across at all. Not even with her final words.Ā
The fact is, they were hurt by a small part of their own fandom (which, by the way, they have no idea how old those toxic fans were. Not to say that adults are not toxic. But we, as the non-toxic adults, should also think of the demographic and react accordingly). And most of us, the queer Supercorp shippers, were also hurt by the toxic part of the fandom and by some of the people she's trying to defend. Let's be clear, there's not "mayyyybe," they were 100% wrong in queerbaiting the hell out of us from day one and mocking us for believingĀ theĀ bait. Make no mistake, most of this is a consequenceĀ of THAT.Ā

Damon and Diana, Snake and Chameleon
in the context of chapter 1 i wanted to expand on some of the animal symbolism, particularly damon's symbol of a snake and diana's of a chameleon. buckle up yall!
while the biblical snake symbolism is obvious, i think lots of meaning can be derived from real world knowledge--in particular, the familiar image of a snake shedding its skin. snakes enter periods of heightened aggression when molting due to the sensitivity of their new skin, and i think this will be reflected by damon becoming much worse in the name of defending himself before he changes for the better. his initial distrustful mindset was proven right, the second he even *began* to trust someone it blew up in his face. while he was crying for a moment in the face of eva's death, this sorrow was quickly overrun by frustration and anger, particularly at diana's words.
additionally, while i'm not sure if exact genus/species of certain animals were intended or will become important to interpretation, i'd like to draw a connection between damon's snake symbol and a certain genus. from the green color and his american origins, i think he can be connected to opheodrys, a common genus of green snake from north america coming in two species of rough or smooth variety. these snakes are not commonly kept as pets due to their standoffish and defensive nature around humans, making them prone to biting. despite this, they're non-venomous and generally harmless. damon makes it clear when confronted that he does not intend to harm anyone. in fact, his monologues show he thinks much more about how he would respond if someone were to attack *him* instead, noting the physical advantage some of his classmates have (rough/smooth green snakes are very small). we can even tie these traits of non-venom back to the prologue trial, where he appeared very hostile despite genuinely thinking he was helping. and of course, a connection can also be made to damon's general personality of being outwardly cold when deep down he's just... a guy who gets easily embarrassed.
now onto diana! first off i was surprised she actually mentioned her animal and how it relates to her, i thought the motifs were going to be more of an unspoken thing. makes me wonder if any other characters will mention their animals. anyway, fun fact! chameleons don't change color to camouflage, they do it for thermoregulation and social signaling. for diana, i'm more concerned with social signaling, as chameleons can change into very bold displays of colors to communicate dominance, as paralleled by diana's bold display at the end of the first trial with the intention of rallying the others behind her. this could be a stretch, but diana's darker/bold color pallet could be a reference to the potential spectrum of colors that a chameleon would display under stress.
i find it funny though, that while diana says that she will adapt like a chameleon, keeping chameleons in captivity is notoriously hard due to their highly specific environmental requirements- be it temperature, humidity, or lighting, they're easy to accidentally kill. diana may claim with a brave face that she has the strength to fight this killing game no matter the struggle, yet someone with the stress sensitivity of a chameleon in a situation like this is doomed to buckle.
anyway...can you tell they're my two favorite characters. antag diana im so ready for you if you're real

Has there been something you've written or drawn that was so funny that you couldn't stop laughing?
And on the contrary, it was very sad and you had to stop to dry your tears?
Probably the funniest thing I've drawn was this

So sad that we'll never get to see Enid and Yoko act like besties. Crazy that the only canon on screen interaction we've seen between them was Enid nagging Yoko over the dang boat they were painting lol
I can't say I've written or drawn anything sad enough to make me cry, but these are the ones that have made me the most emotional when making them

Drawing Vaggie in the many stages of her life was idk how to say it. It made me feel really proud of her? One of the most frustrating claims about her as a character was that she was bland, but I always saw her as one of the few characters in the show that was given the most actual DEPTH. All the reasons people give to hate her is such a disservice to her character's journey. I wanted this piece to show the appreciation she deserves.

These two pages are some of my favorite of my more emotional comics. Just Enid and Vega crying as they turn back to their human form while finding comfort in Wednesday. One of the many parallels I love to put in my art

This Week in BL - I'm treading water and so is BL
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
Feb 2025 Week 1

Ongoing Series - Thai
Your Sky (Sun iQIYI) ep 12 end -Ā I love this show so much.Ā So sweet. I adored it when Rak (FINALLY!) took the initiative!Ā

Conclusion
As pulps go this is right up there with my favorite if all time, My Ride, but for different less complex reasons. This is a relatively simple, old school, endearingly soft story of a fake relationship between a sunshine sweetie and an older reserved rich kid who slowly fall in love. Its soft gentle low-stakes leans into everything I personally love about Thai BL. Itās a warm fuzzy robe of a show. 9/10Ā
ThamePo (Fri YT) ep 9 of 12 - Thame is the poutyest of pouty babies. I love the ribbing that he got from his group the next morning (that wasn't). That said when we got a kiss it was a VERY GOOD kiss. This is a very me truly great show that Iām enjoying so much.Ā

The Boy Next World (Sun IQIYI) ep 5 of 10 - I really canāt fault the chemistry with this pair. From kissing to making out they're awesome at ALL OF it. I like the twist (that there is not parallel world jsut the edge of insanity). It's delusional and sus and obsessive and very "seme who missed his meet cute with his uke" and is being forced by a narrative to fast forward. So 90s yaoi. Can Mame push this edge in the right way? Doubtful. But BossNoeul will make it fun for us to watch no matter how questionably messy it gets.
(Yes, there IS a "right way.")
The Heart Killers (Weds Gaga) ep 11 of 12 - fun penultimate episode.
Perfect 10 Liners (Sun YT) ep 15 of 24 - It's fine. Even cute. I think I like PerthSanta better than ForceBook but I really want the next pair the most.Ā
Sangmin Dinneaw (Sun iQIYI) ep 6 of 10 - Enter my least favorite trope of all time, the amnesia trope. Also random doctor couple. This show is nothing if not erratic.Ā
Flirt Milk (Sat YT) ep 3 or 10Ā - ugh
Ossanās Love Thailand (Mon YouTube) ep 5 of 12 - Is this punishment for how good Cherry Magic Thailand was?
Gelboys (Weds iQIYI) ep 1 of 7 - it started but I didn't realize so I'll catch up next week.
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
When it Rains it Pours (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 5 of 10 - I adore them so much, these two sad desperate horny cheating boys. Lube! Argh. Please! The stark lack of affection in this show is about as dry and painful as the sex must have been. But, its all very tense and I kinda love it's minimalistic angst.Ā
Eternal Butler (Taiwan Fri Gaga) eps 8 of 12 - what a pity, just throwing away that cute color matched BDSM set. Ever 4 is SO CUTE when he smiles, but he would have been cuter smiling and holding that red bullwhip.
Heart Stain (Korea Weds IQIYI) eps 1-2 of 8 - I like it! Itās Korea doing its all-time favorite trope, the love triangle, but an interesting take. One boy is in love with his teacher but his best friend is in love with him. Let the drama commence.
Impression of Youth (Taiwan Weds Viki) eps 5 of 9 - Such a great brother relationship! My goodness the courage on that kid. Also, they jumped into the sack fast, even for Taiwan.
Fight for Love (Vietnam YT) ep 1 - A new VBL that is actually quite fluffy and charming. It is extremely lightweight but Iām enjoying that aspect. I like Vietnamese comedy more than Thai, I think.
Checkered Shirt (Korea YT) ep 1 of 8 -Ā From the same people sho did Seoul Blues. I like it but this studio isn't vested in HEA so I'm wary.Ā
FC Soldout (Korea Thurs iQIYI) eps 1-4 of 8 - Huh. Interesting. The premise is kinda fun, even if (you know me) I never like obsessed fans. Creeps me out. That said, everyone is surprisingly gay for a KBL - like gay GAY. I know thatās a weird thing for me to say in a BL, but Korea is usually awfully het about their BL.
Anygay, of course I already like the side couple best. The gruff team captain and the pretty idol with a sad past win. WIN WIN. Give me an entire show about them please.
Teenager Judge (Vietnam Sat YT) ep 18 of 20 - (the end is in sight, but sheesh!) it was OK because mostly it was all the friends over at the house and doing stuff together. But still not a lot is happening.
It's airing but......
I Will Turn Back Time (China Gaga) 6 eps - Itās Chinese, no idea if it will end well or not. But itās the stepbrothers trope. Still, Iām not gonna watch it until itās done.
In Case You Missed it
End of year wraps are here!

MY BEST & WORST BLs of 2024
Best Kisses (and sex scenes) of 2024
BL's 2024 Quirky Awards
2024 Awards - Quick Picks
Next Week Looks Like This:
Like last week we already in the middle, I promise I should be back on schedule soon. You'll get you calander image then.
2/14 Exclusive Love (Taiwan Gaga) trailer - Shy aspiring singer inherits funeral business.
2/14 The Last Time (Thailand WeTV) trailer - from 2024, not sure about this one, looks dark.
2/21 Bali Hai (Thailand ????) no MDL listing, only rumors, unsure on deets.
2/27 Secret Relationships (Korea iQIYI) - Stars Wei's Kim Jun Seo. Adapted by Cradle Studio (Kakao). About clever and resourceful Daon who has worked hard to overcome being poor. His cheap ways annoy his coworker, Sunghyeon but after āan incidentā with his parents, Daon grows closer to him. But Daon also has feelings for his former tutor. This has the signs of a classic Kdrama all over it: Office setting, love triangle, lead suffering for his self-actualization. Iām optimistic about a longer treatment.

Character Flaws vs Writing Flaws:
While catching up on some of the stuff people have commented/sent to me, I noticed someone mention how Katsuki being a bully is a flaw of his and that not every character needs to be a good person.
First of all, when did I ever say that a character has to be morally correct to be a good character? Some of my favorite characters are villains whoāve done worse things than Katsuki.
So whatās the difference between them and Katsuki?
Well, the villains have a reason for existing. Joker is meant to serve as a parallel to Batman, challenging his morals while also showing what an unhinged Batman could look like.
On a much lesser scale, despite his extremely limited screen time, Moonfishās bloodlust, lack of sanity, and cannibalism serve two purposes in MHA: to showcase Fumikageās power and to give the readers an example of what the heroes of this world have to deal with.
Katsukiās flaws are meant to show the flaws of a world that values raw power over morals, but he fails at this. The reason why? His flaws are never allowed to be flaws.
Katsukiās aggressive and hostile nature should have him struggling to make friends, yet he has the two pillars of 1-A, that being Ejiro and Denkias described by Hori, immediately befriend him with no issues. His inability to empathize with others should have people wanting to steer away from him, but his instead 1-A loves him, Eri loves him despite being the last person who would, and anyone who doesnāt love him is seen as being in the wrong.
Katsuki is meant to be a big fish in a little pond, someone whose ego isnāt challenged until a certain point, and the Battle Trials were meant to show this. While yes, Katsuki has a mini-breakdown over the fact that heās no longer in a class of people with weaker quirks, he has no issue claiming a spot as a Top Dog and he still continues to demean the people around him.
Katsukiās aggressiveness is meant to be both a flaw and an asset. His aggressive nature is what motivates him to defeat the villain, but itās supposed to cause him to have a one track mind when it comes to hero work. Rescue, teamwork, all of that is ignored by him to fight the big bad. His ego caused everyone to have a tougher time during the USJ, but is that ever touched upon? Nope. Itās just ignored. When Katsuki saved Kyouka, there was no buildup to it. It just happens. We never see him struggle with teamwork because everyone else follows him like a lost puppy.
Meanwhile, Izuku is meant to be Katsukiās parallel in this department. Heās meant to showcase why too much selflessness isnāt good while also showing that a hero is more than just their raw power. Problem is, Izuku gets completely shat on no matter what he does. He goes after a villain to protect U.A? Gets criticized. Does his best to work with Katsuki? Gets blamed despite it solely being an issue on Katsukiās end. Does everything perfectly? Nope, still not enough. Compared to Izuku, who always seems to be in the wrong, Katsukiās placed as this paragon of heroic virtues despite the fact both characters are supposed to be two halves of a whole. Theyāre supposed to learn from one another. Problem is, Katsukiās flaws are always ignored while Izukuās positive traits are demeaned.
Finally, Katsuki being a bully is supposed to serve as a starting point for his character. Heās meant to grow and develop as a human being. Again, he doesnāt, or at least he doesnāt do so in an organic way. He never suffers consequences for his behavior, heās constantly propped up and coddled instead of criticized, and heās given some heroic moments despite there being no buildup to them. In the span of a month he goes from nearly killing Izuku to risking his life for him. Where the hell did that come from? Honestly, I wouldnāt care if Katsuki being a bully is his sole purpose for existing, but heās meant to be more than that. This is supposed to be a well developed and fully fleshed out character who grows from his selfishness and is meant to show that anyone can be a hero, no matter their starting point. But when the development is crap and he hardly changes outside of some OOC moments, then his flaws cease to be flaws that heās meant to overcome. Instead MHA treats it as him being quirky and misunderstood.
In conclusion, you just canāt present something as a character flaw and expect it to serve as an excuse as to why a character exhibits said flaw. You have to think of the following: what purpose does this flaw serve? Is it meant to be used to teach a lesson? Does it set something in motion, whether it be the development of this character, another character, or does the flaw cause the characterās downfall? The only thing Katsukiās flaws does right is that they set up Izukuās story, which again would be fine if thatās Katsukiās purpose, but itās not. Him being a bully isnāt something that he overcomes in a natural way. His redemption story is the equivalent of filling things out of a checklist without being fleshed out. Every time he screws up, itās never treated as a screw-up. Oh he failed the hero license exam? Well so did Shoto so heās not unique there, and the proctors still suck his dick even while heās āfailingā. Him being the reason for 13ās injuries? Never brought up.
Katsukiās flaws donāt piss me off because they are flaws, but because the writing of his character IS so deeply flawed despite being a centralized character in the story.
Oh, and as always, someone can dislike a character for whatever reason they might have. If people donāt like Katsuki because heās a bully, then they have every right to. What I wrote is a response as to why I think Katsukiās a shit character and how itās not because of his flaws themselves, but how Hori goes about writing these flaws.

all my arcane thoughts because iām feeling entirely normal about this show:
the storytelling!! the foreshadowing!! the parallels!! the pure artistry!! arcane is a masterpiece!!
it has everything: trauma, found family, the corruption of power, complex sibling dynamics, queer relationships (sapphic rep!!), more trauma, social and political commentary, beautiful animation, and even more trauma!! it reminds me so much of so many of my favorite animated shows (avatar: the last airbender, she-ra, fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood) all mixed into one.
the animation was actually something that originally kept me from watching the show because iām not a big fan of most 3d animation. but my GOD was it beautiful!!! the way they were able to mix art styles and switch between 3d and 2d worked so well! it was incredibly creative and artistic and iāve never seen anything like it. the fight sequences were STUNNING and easily some of the best moments in the show. every frame was truly a work of art, iām obsessed.
from the characters to the plot, every element of this show is so well written, itās restored my faith in modern tv writing.
would absolutely recommend if youāre prepared to have your heart torn from your chest š
spoilers below with all my in depth thoughts
okay please bear with me, my brain is all over the place:
- JINX!! MY PRECIOUS JINX!! YOU DESERVED SO MUCH MORE!!! šš oh i knew it was coming and yet i still cried so much!!! sheās easily my favorite character. i support her in all her rights and wrongs (of which there are none actually, she had every right to do everything she did). all thatās keeping me sane is knowing sheās alive and well in another timeline š„² with ekko š„² dancing freely and engineering to her hearts content
- i also loved vi so so much. the prideful eldest sibling overwhelmed by the responsibility she feels to her familyā¦.yeah that hit hard. these sisters, doomed by the narrative, have DESTROYED me. all the parallels of their relationship throughout the show, down to vi grabbing jinx before she falls in the first vs last episode!! itās all too much, iāll never recover š
- my biggest complaint is that we didnāt get to explore viās grief after losing jinx. i know they jumped forward in time, so it seemed like she just kinda moved on and we didnāt get to see the aftermath of arguably the most traumatic thing sheās ever experienced?? watching her sister die and her father die (again) would have changed her forever so it felt a bit rushed to justā¦.gloss over that.
- and iām so sorry to the caitlyn stans butā¦..sheās not my favorite š¬ i donāt even dislike vi/cait as a ship, i just feel like caitlyn as a character is the least developed out of everyone on the show. and also her dictator arc wasā¦something. i feel like we moved on from it so quickly that we didnāt have time to fully explore and address everything there.
- my other favorite character (second only to jinx) is ekko!! a true hero!! every fight scene heās in is my favorite fight sceneāheās just SO GOOD š¤ and what he does for jinx??? yeah, that was pure love
- the jinx/vi/isha/vander dynamic was easily my favorite part of the whole show. them as a family hurt me and healed me and UGH i cried so much š isha and jinx too my GOD their whole relationship was so beautiful and jinx getting to be the older sister she never had š iām still crying over it!
- and sevika???? LOVE her. imagine being that right all the timeā¦.she has to be a capricorn.
- also mel!! she took some time to grow on me but i especially loved her arc in season 2! her as a mage is iconic and i wish we could have seen her use her magic more!
- oh and silco?? the most unexpected favorite. i didnāt expect to side with him so often, but thatās what makes him such a great villain. and the tears i shed when he told jinx āi never would have given you to them. not for anythingā??? oh i SOBBED
- while i did love the jayce/viktor relationship by the end, i just find jayce to be soā¦.boring, iām sorry!! maybe upon rewatch iāll feel more attached to him but (especially compared to nearly every other character) heās so uninteresting. but the show needed some normie representation, so iāll let him be.
- but viktor though!! yeah he was an incredible character. i called the plot twist of him being the mage who helped jayce pretty early on, so that wasnāt a surprise. but i did not expect him to have a full on jesus arc?? that was wilddd and i feel like i need more watches to fully process it all.
those are most of my thoughts for now. iām just in awe of how wonderful this show is and surprised by how much i enjoyed it. i definitely need more time and more rewatches to say for certain if itās an all time favorite, but itās definitely up there šš©·
#iām so sorry i wrote an essay length post#i just needed to get all my thoughts down#but if you are curious to hear my initial and very emotional thoughts about the show#here they are!!#iām genuinely so obsessed#i can feel that iām going to rewatch this countless times#this is the new hyperfixation my brain was craving#arcane#arcane season 2#arcane review#tv shows#arcane netflix

Quick S5 Analysis and Theory
I AM GOING TO RAMBLE ANALYSIS BECAUSE THEY ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY
I cannot stop thinking about the way Wukong reacts to Macaque when he goes "oh no 'gee thanks for saving me macaque!...'" cause if this were before the S5E2, he would have snapped back at him, like he always does.
We know Macaque does this solely to rile Wukong up. It's how we're introduced to his character in S1E9 and he does it throughout the series. This is why he did it here too (or at least partially), BUT WUKONG DOESN'T TAKE THE BAIT THIS TIME.
While he's obviously still reeling from seeing the memory of their fight he was forced to watch,
you can still see that, for a split second, Wukong almost does snap back, but he instantly rethinks that and decides to be passive
Macaque, again, pokes at him trying to get a reaction, but this time Wukong doesn't even think about snapping back. He simply responds casually/lightly (before then realizing that MK is in danger)
This tells us possibly two really important things
Macaque sacrificing himself in S5E2 was a turning point for Wukong's perception of him. An increase in personal trust/faith/etc.
2. Seeing the memory of their fight made him rethink his behavior toward Macaque
For the rest of the season, they don't get a lot of moments because of, well, Everything, but we see Wukong is not only more willing to show concern for his wellbeing, but also seems to be more open/emotionally vulnerable in front of him than before (in little moments, anyway).
Granted that has been building up since S4E11, arguably before that but I'm not going to deep dive analyze season 3. He's being more communicative with Macaque in S5E1 about MK too. In other words, not completely shutting him out or pushing him away, which seems like their natural progression from S4E11 as well.
All of that being said, this brings me to The Scene. Which I am completely normal about because there's so much to unpack about it and I am so normal about that. Evidently.
First of all, they wanted to hold hands during their final moments. MK and Macaque are the two most important people in Wukong's life, I feel like that speaks for itself.
BUT it's Wukong who reaches out here.
This is Wukong's first major attempt to bridge the gap between them, at least in such a direct way. In my opinion, it's almost a wordless forgiveness on top of acknowledging how Macaque has changed and improved himself, as well as his reciprocation of that behavior. He wants to fix their relationship too, just as he has seen Macaque willing to do the same.
This moment being interrupted was actually a good thing. It's a good visual reminder that, despite them both wanting to reconcile, they aren't Quite there yet. There's still a lot left unsaid between these two, most importantly Macaque's death. (I'LL GET TO THAT. HOLD THAT IN YOUR BRAIN)
For macaque, this moment has another important meaning.
AND NOW I GET TO TALK ABOUT ONE OF MY FAVORITE WRITING TOOLS HELLO PARALLELS!!!!
In S2E7 we are introduced to this shot of Wukong on a pedestal over Macaque, turning his back on him and abandoning him. This is firmly established in that episode as one of the main reasons Macaque resents Wukong.
He is also portrayed as above him, subsequently nodding at Macaque feeling inferior to him.
In S4E11, we actually watch how this dynamic destroys their friendship. It is a MAJOR reason for their falling out. Macaque feels neglected, overlooked, ignored. Promises are broken and trust is lost. To him, Wukong is selfish, self-righteous, egotistical, uncaring, etc.
Obviously we as the audience are aware Macaque has a rather skewed perception of Wukong that seems to be influenced by his projection of his own insecurities, but that is a whole other analysis for a different time.
In S5E10, this shot is paralleled. Visually demonstrating that Wukong isn't forgetting about him this time. He looks for him. Macaque is being considered in a way he had previously believed was lacking in their friendship.
Not only that, but they are on level ground. Balanced and equal.
Macaque is reluctant to reach back out. His trust in Wukong is practically non-existent, has been for a while (understandably), so it's a little hard for him, but he reciprocates because, like Wukong, he's acknowledging that he has changed. He wants to try to fix this too.
TO RECAP!
They know they both want to fix things
They can see and have acknowledged changes in their behavior on both sides
Wukong seems to be less prone to arguing back, which will most likely make Macaque less likely to try and provoke him. All in all, they will be more civil with each other and most likely argue much less.
They are being held back by things left unsaid.
WHICH LEADS ME TOO...
WHERE DOES THIS LEAD THEM IN S6?
The obvious is they need to address Macaque's death. If they don't do it in this season it's bad writing and they are dragging it out for too long. It's the obvious natural progression here.
This is where they will have an actual, long overdue constructive conversation. It is literally singlehandedly the only thing preventing them from reconciling at this point.
Now, the problem, is how this would happen. Because we all know neither of them are going to randomly apologize out of nowhere. It's gonna take something to push them into that direction. And that should be how it happens otherwise it'd most likely feel forced in the script.
WHICH BRINGS ME TO A THEORY. A GAME THEO-
I'm not going to get into the nitty-gritty details of this particular theory, but just know that I am a firm believer in the "Macaque was consumed by his own powers and that's what killed him" theory. I do think Wukong played a substantial role in his death, enough for Macaque to reasonably believe Wukong killed him, but ultimately it was less Wukong directly killing him and more indirectly causing it and not saving him.
That being said, Wukong and Macaque's relationship is a major subplot in this show with a considerable amount of focus. They have been slowly building to their inevitable mending relationship since Macaque's first episode, which means that they're going to want to reach that climax in a pivotal emotional moment. Not a random conversation smacked into an episode.
And what is going to be plot-relevant next season??
MACAQUE'S CHAOS POWERS.
S5 built up to Macaque being an established member of the group
(Also the VO here being "change can be terrifying" is absolutely foreshadowing to some degree)
Now, there's also something else I need to address. Macaque has gone out of his way 3 separate times, 4 if you count the LBD fight, to save Wukong. On the other hand, Wukong obviously cares about Macaque, but ultimately hasn't had many opportunities or reasons to try to save him specifically.
With all of those details in mind, I think Wukong will need to take direct action by either saving him/protecting him/etc. because I think it would be a high-stakes moment that inevitably kickstarts an apology/conversation between them. Maybe it's something that reminds Wukong of their fight or that macaque can die (hence the chaos powers potentially harming Macaque in some manner or maybe a potential difficulty controlling them reminds Wukong of their fight, something along these lines).
Why this route?
Macaque has regained Wukong's trust. He basically says as much in S5E2. And while it's fairly obvious with Macaque's behavior and choices that he has learned from his past mistakes and is working on his faults, he definitely needs to acknowledge his wrongdoings. However, I think that would naturally happen during any conversation they may have (or the aftermath) regarding his death and their feelings.
That leaves Wukong because he made a promise to Macaque that theyād spend eternity together and that he would protect him and their home. A promise he broke multiple times and has not made up for yet. He needs to mend that and make it right to solidly regain Macaque's trust in order to reconcile.

this has always been one of my favorite lines in this scene itās so striking to me. i think debating over callumās level of lucidity and what can or cannot āfixā him is deeply antithecal to what the story is trying to express with him - but the idea that callum is still there and still a person who does have the capacity to love mingus, just not in a way she can ever comprehend or accept, because she can't comprehend or accept anything outside her narrow worldview, is sooooo good.
there is no way of actually knowing if callum is proud of mingus, much less recognizes her at all - but it's added to by the fact there's only so much of that she would accept even if he could. ultimately, she wants validation and power, his prestige, from him, she wants a supportive parental figure she never had - there's only so much of that callum is able to provide even in a world where her stint to fix his memory actually worked. he's like a hundred. he never even MET her. to say nothing of all he's missed in the past fifty-odd years. to say nothing of how his age may have messed with his mind deteriorating even without the pre-existing brain damage.
and mingus' phrasing here implies he doesn't even look at her when she visits - which brings me to the visit that radicalized her: the one after her surgery, where he was watching gingi out the window.
obviously, callum watching gingi is mostly for the thematics of it all, how similar the two of them are in ways mingus refuses to recognize, but theres also the thought of... callum's been sitting alone in that room for over half his life, barely lucid if at all. of course he's going to be drawn to a brightly-colored thing making noises and knocking stuff over outside. if he can't respond to stimuli of the people around him he's at the very least going to latch onto something more visually interesting than Brown Wall and Brown Figure.
but it's not like mingus can think of it like that, because she's internalized so much about her grandfather and built up such a specific, personalized vision of him - she doesn't see him as an elderly man with (a fictional equivalent to) dementia, she sees him as President Callum Crownā¢, the man she personally has to please and live up to the legacy of and make proud, disregarding the fact that's not something he has the mental capacity to even do - because she's so obsessed with validation and complete control that the only way she can get it is by either subjugating others and forcing it out of them (what she does with her townsfolk), or just completely projecting on someone who, for her purposes, is basically a blank slate.
which is maddening to her in its own way, see how crazy she drives herself trying to restore callum's memory in the first place - but also, would she be happy even if callum could see her for who she is? post-game, when she's working on herself, that's an irrelevant question as she's pushed past that need, but as we know her? absolutely not.
i love the ch3 standoff between norm and mingus as a show of "Okay guys letās see who can dehumanize this disabled guy harder (via pedestal-putting) and justify themselves for it better" and why i think it is so important that itās gingi who reads the postcard and ultimately speaks for callum instead of either of them, or even the narrator. they canāt read, and they struggle to, but they manage to get it right even when people are telling them to stop. and the fact theyāre able to do it at all, are given the chance to do so, and are ultimately the one to wind down this conflict shows that the world of dialtown, while not perfect, really is how callum would have wanted it.
both gingi and callum are some of the most altruistic and human characters ever, and the crux of their parallels is that they are denied this by close-minded people because they happen to Behave Strangely. it's why seeing mingus act the way she does hits so hard - she loves her paw-paw, yes, but if she were to see him in a vacuum, a one-limbed man who can hardly think, much less speak for himself: or even his younger self, who was struggling to make ends meet with his odd inventions...
...well, the feeling norm's imagining here would probably be mutual. mingus' relationship with bigotry is a very fascinating one, she's very close-minded but views certain oddities (ie her flesh-head) as having earned their place and thus being fine - she's a freak too, by her own admission, but she's doing it for a just and wider purpose, so it's fine. which is, ironically, the ideology callum forced upon himself.
callum was obsessed with helping people, pushing himself to do more and more, because it was the only way he ever found respect. if he didn't help people and have grand visions for the world and make himself "useful" to society at large, then what would he be, if not a freak?
mingus and her paw-paw are very similar people, from their well-intentioned extremism, to their stubbornness and paranoia, to their inability to view themselves as anything more than a vessel for that grand cause they believe in (callum in the dialup, mingus in restoring her paw-paw's memory) - which is funny, because if mingus was able to view callum, and herself, as a flawed human person, she would come to understand how similar they really are.
