Song Review: Longhorn Slim & John Craigie - “Out on the Road”

Though the music is downcast - maudlin, even - “Out on the Road” is a celebration of being a touring musician.

Set to acoustic guitar, violin and piano - no drums - the first joint shared by Longhorn Slim and John Craigie finds the musicians singing to each other by name (Sean and John) and extolling Holiday Inns, bars as venues and wayward fans:

Some folks are kind/some folks are weirdos/some sneak backstage and steal all our clothes/we’ll drive through storms and all kinds of weather/when the lights go down, we’re all in this together, they sing.

Hackneyed though it may be, and despite the beautiful soundtrack not fitting the libretto, “Out on the Road” is nice in that it indicates Slim and Craigie get joy from giving joy. Here’s hoping they do some more work together and expand their lyrical template.

i was REALLY surprised i hadnt seen anyone animate over anything from the prevenge script reading yet, so i took matters into my own hands. i thought this bit was hilarious

#transformers #maccadam #tailgate #ultra magnus #mtmte #lip syncing is actually a lot more fun than i expected #but tailgate's mask probably saved me like eight hours lmao #speaking of him i'm REALLY happy with how expressive he ended up being #i really didn't expect that kind of deformation to mesh well with the... uh... mesh.#so i was pleasantly surprised when it turned out as great as it did #mags' model was hard to figure out because he is SO FREAKING INCONSISTENT IN THE COMICS #but that also meant i got to cherry pick the features i liked best/that were simplest to model so... still a win #tailgate's blissfully consistent tho. his hood thing gave me a lot of trouble but i managed #this is my first time working with a lot of geometric shapes so i ran into a lot of road blocks but i did it!! yay!!

Taking a moment to away from squeeing about Vidarkness...

Let's talk about Lorna Wu.

This woman loved her daughter so freaking much. Like, imagine being in her shoes, suffering under potentially centuries long generational curse that she knows is going to kill her.

Doing everything to make sure it doesn't get her daughter too.

I mean she literally crafted a spell out of a much much older very powerful different spell. Which is huge in itself.

But then. BUT THEN, she must have dedicated every bit of time and energy to make SURE that her spell song would become as famous as it possibly could be.

Not because she wanted to be a star... but because as long as someone, somewhere was playing that song her daughter would remain protected.

And I bet Alice felt forgotten, like she wasn't as important as being famous. Except that it turns out fame was just a means to an end, what mattared to Lorna - the only thing that mattered to Lorna - was saving her daughter.

And here Alice finally knows that.

actually sometimes being neurodivergent is great bc you have a particular kind of Silly Mode that just . manifests glory. harmless fun is my precious side quest & i have a high score in whimsy. like okay if i gotta be the first dork in the dance pit it's gonna be me and this random toddler and we're gonna avril-style rock ouuuuttt
