Let Go

A/N: Some angst inspired by the amazing @ghostly-prompts. Prompt is bolded, dont cry like I did writing this.... I miss Seokjin a little too much rn, all of them actually :’)

“I didn’t think it would be so easy to forgive, to let go and breathe.”

His eyes met yours as you spoke into the sunset, tears tracing your reddened cheeks as the snow fell around you. Your eyes closed as you shook in your spot, his hand taking up a spot on your shoulder as he listened. 

“You had to eventually, Y/n. You couldn’t keep holding on to the small part of him we had.”

You knew he spoke within reason, logically he was right, he always was. But it wasn’t that simple. After your best friend died, you had nothing. Yes you had 6 other best friends but Seokjin was your childhood friend. He made everything better with his squeaky laugh and weird dances as he walked through the kitchen while cooking large amounts of food. The way his eyes shrunk with his happy smiles as Jungkook made a joke or the way he scolded Namjoon for breaking something. 

“I just feel empty, Yoongi. I don’t know what to do anymore.I know I couldn’t have done anything to stop it, but I just...He was...is, my best friend.”

A sigh met your ears as he wrapped you in a hug, tears falling from your eyes faster as you clung onto the comfort he provided. Your teary eyes connected with Jin’s name on the urn in your hands, his smiling face meeting yours through your sadness. You sighed shakily as you smiled at his picture. He would’ve wanted you to be happy after he left, he had told you many times that he would watch over you when he wasn’t torturing other deceased souls with his dad jokes. Like he really was watching you, the snowy clouds parted, the moon making an appearance behind you as you opened the urn, your hands shaking as you cried a little harder. 

“I’m right here. We all are. It’s okay.”

Your teary eyes met with the similar gazes of the other boys, Jungkook being held by a sobbing Hoseok as the others found comfort in side hugs. You nodded at them slowly, a hesitant smile crossing your lips as you reached into the container with a shaking hand. Grasping the remains of your other half, you gently released his ashes over the edge of the mountain he had said he always wanted to climb with you one day. Watching his last physical connection to you dust over the snowy world below, you leaned further into Yoongi as you broke down into more aggressive sobs. Hands swapped and you were moved into the group hug as Hoseok took over Yoongi’s solid hold on you, your blurry eyes watching as the rest of them let go of their eldest. Soon Hoseok was the only one left and he stood frozen in place when Namjoon called his name. You took a deep breath and walked forward with Hobi still clung onto you, your hands shakily reaching for the urn as you guided Hoseok's hand into it with you own. 

“Jinnie would be happy we’re doing this. It’s okay, Hobi.”

His red eyes met yours as you smiled weakly, his half-assed smile bringing fresh tears to your eyes as you held your shaking hands over the edge, the moon shining a little brighter as you let go of Hoseok’s hand, his hand falling open as he shook with sobs, your own grief overpowering you again as you hugged him tightly.

“You don’t have to forgive the world just yet... But we do have to let go. Eventually, it will be easier to accept, but until then, Jin would be happy to know we’re still breathing.”

Silence fell over the group as his remains fell like the snow, tears soaking the powder beneath your feet. 

“Breathing... at least there’s that...”
