Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Tumblr media
Movies watched in 2024
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966, USA)
Director: Mike Nichols
Writer: Ernest Lehman (based on a play by Edward Albee)
Mini-review:
Damn, that was intense. I expected it from what I had heard, but it went even farther than I thought. The script is smart, messy, bitingly funny and surprisingly dark. On top of that, I really enjoyed the way all the scenes are shot, alternating between some pretty long takes. But really, the highlight of the movie is the extraordinary acting by its four stars, especially Elizabeth Taylor. I did feel like it was a bit overlong, but the cast kept me interested until the very end. Anyway, I can perfectly understand why Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is such a renowned classic.

Was looking at these two images and came up with a potential scene idea so hear me out:
Stone gets left behind by Robotnik, obviously. After being left Team Sonic sort of takes him in / looks after him. We pan over to see Stone sitting in a corner, staring off into space. Tails, who has connected with Stone the most, goes over to check on him. We hear Stone give a deep sigh, and Tails leans over to ask “Hey, what’s wrong?” And then Stone looks up at him and goes:
“I miss Robotnik, Tails. I miss him a lot. I’ll be back-“
And then he walks out. *end scene*

all quiet on the western front is literally a movie discussing the futility of war, of how little boys sign up to march to their death because of propaganda fed to them by their teachers and mentors who prey on their idealistic view on life. it is a film that makes you watch death after death after death, without giving you a single cause or philosophy or ideal for you to soothe yourself with—because there is none. there are only boys and men, bleeding cold and alone on the dirt and mud. there is no worth. there is no reason. there is only death.
and you reduce it to a "war movie". it's based off a book brave enough to depict the realities of war in the charged political climate of 1929, and you call it "the war movie".

After Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Kartik Aaryan is eager to bring Aashiqui 3 back and wishes for a sequel to Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety: Report
Riding high on the popularity of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Kartik Aaryan is allegedly eager to bring back the Aashiqui franchise. The actor hopes to revive the movie under the venerable franchise name. He was originally slated to star in Aashiqui 3, which would be directed by Anurag Basu. Earlier this year, a disagreement between the film’s producers, T-Series and Vishesh Films, led to the project’s renaming from Aashiqui 3 to Tu Aashiqui Hai. But Aaryan has been forced to reevaluate the strategic worth of a franchise in light of the recent success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

I'll only take the Oscars seriously when they start nominating animated films in other categories that aren't strictly for animation. Spiderverse deserved a Best Score and Visual Effects nomination. I'd even go as far as to say it should've had a crack at Best Picture. Mutant Mayhem was certainly better than Elemental, if on a purely visual level.
This is biased, but if Elemental wins, it's probably because that's the only animated movie the voters saw. If The Boy and The Heron wins, it's because it's Miyazaki and they'd look good letting him win.
I fully expect either Spiderverse or Heron to win, but if Nimona does, I'd be so happy for the folks at Bluesky and Netflix who kept working on it despite the incredible challenges they faced. I hope Disney are wiping the egg off their face, realizing they shut down the studio that helped produce an Oscar-nominated movie within their last days.

If I hear one more thing about these oscar snubs I’m gonna scream
I loved Barbie!
Margot Robbie is an amazing actress and Greta is an amazing director but all I was hearing about the Oscar’s was “Oh they were snubbed” “Can’t believe they were overshadowed” “Oscars are stupid”
So imagine my surprise when I see AMERICA FERRERA WAS NOMINATED
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So much outrage over the women who didn’t get nominated yet no cheers for the one who did?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
America Ferrera has been in the industry for years and she’s finally getting the recognition she DESERVES
WHY CANT WE BE HAPPY ABOUT THAT!
WHY CANT WE CELEBRATE THAT?!!
And the worst part is no one has been more gracious about this than Margot. She’s not posting about her outrage or her anger, she’s proud of the movie they made and is supportive of all of her costars
