Short answer. Yes. I am primarily an angst writer, of course my dear blorbo has suffered from illness.

Before and during the war as a general rule, Optimus never really got sick. His health was always kept as a top priority while he served under Alpha Trion and he was swarmed by medics enough during the war to ensure most plague could not touch him. That said, there were two instances where he was ill that were worthy of note, one pre war and one during.

Back when he was not yet a Prime, Orion only travelled to secure locations if he travelled at all. He was an archivist, he did not go into the dark and gritty parts of Cybertron. If he made journeys, it was to other archives across Cybertron to collect and corroborate data. His firewalls and immune systems were specialized to handle the viruses found amongst the middle and high caste mecha. He could quite easily walk off a software attack, system glitches, and all sorts of other viruses intended to weaken the fine and sensitive parts of a mech. But the things that targeted hardware and the frame as a whole? He was not at all prepared for those when he made his trip down to Kaon for the first time.

He was so focused on speaking and coming to agreements with Megatronus that when his venting started to sputter and he felt cold, it came as quite a surprise. He tried to ignore it, being far too enthralled with speaking with the mech he had been looking up to that when he finally collapsed after attempting to get up, he was left in shock. Megatronus saw the signs of ventilation failure and thankfully booked Orion to the nearest medical center with Orion offering paperwork as needed to allow the gladiator to move as needed.

By the time Orion actually made it to the hospital, he was already beginning to suffer from full ventilation failure. He spent the next three cycles confined to a berth hooked up to both a heater and a set of ventilators. His frame was unable to regulate its own temperature as his immune system fought off the virus attacking his systems. It was its own form of agony and he could barely move without feeling as though he were cooking alive or being frozen to death. There was no comfortable middle for Orion Pax. Thankfully Megatronus came to visit him in the hospital after forcing his way in. The gladiator apologized for Orion's situation to which the archivist laughed. Orion should have known better than to visit a new city state without getting proper firewalls installed. He made that quite clear, and soon enough, despite Orion feeling like total slag and hardly being able to speak without wheezing, he and Megatronus has a pleasant time discussing everything and anything as they were before Orion grew ill.

Orion had to wear a ventilation filter over his vents and had a heater strapped to his back that was similarly fitted over his vents for a stellar cycle afterward. However it was of little consequence as the situation repeated itself but in reverse around a vorn after the incident when Megatronus came to visit Iacon and got a nasty case of protocol override virus attacks. The gladiator was lift reeling and Orion was there all throughout to converse with him and make light jokes regarding his own prior stint will illness in Kaon.

During the war there was no such levity when it came to illness. Optimus was a Prime and fitted with enough firewalls from the Matrix to keep just about any virus for touching him. But of course, as the Decepticons began their biological warfare program, old firewalls were rendered useless. Optimus was on the frontlines when it happened, and thus he was one of the first to be rendered bedridden by the prototype cybonic plague. It most certainly wasn't lethal, but the mecha who had it were left purging their tanks unable to keep energon down and left in agony as their very energon was corroded. To handle it their energon had to constantly be drained and replaced via IV's to ensure they survived. It was a form of torture, but one Optimus took fairly well all things considered.

He continued to move around and work once the worst of it wore off and merely carried a bucket around with him so that when his systems demanded a purge he could walk off for a moment and do what needed to be done with a degree of grace. He was miserable, but he was functional and carried around an IV and energon pack hooked up to his fuel lines as he worked on internal affairs' as he recovered. All that made the situation better was Bumblebee, who was still very young at the time, drawing Optimus pictures and making him 'get well soon' cards. It was sweet and made enduring the suffering of the prototype virus easier to bear.

5. The North America Nebula

I just like this one because it looks funny. I mean, look at this and tell me it doesn't look like North America.

4. The Ring Nebula

This is a basic answer, but I like the Ring Nebula because it's very easy to find. It's easy to spot almost perfectly between two stars in Lyra, which is easy to find by looking for the Summer Triangle. It's a good beginner-friendly nebula for observing.

3. Barnard's Loop

I like this one because it's out of the ordinary. It's much bigger than typical nebulae, it covers the entire constellation of Orion! Capturing it requires astrophotographers to take many smaller images of Orion and stitch them together, which takes a huge amount of time and effort.

2. The Dumbbell Nebula

Okay, this one comes with a story.

Back in college, the astronomy club and I were working on getting our club's CCD camera to work. It was kind of a piece of shit if I'm being honest. I think we got it from a guy online who just… made CCD cameras as a hobby? I don't know, it's not important. (Doing an astronomy lab course has taught me that a surprising amount of the technology used in the field is just made in Some Guy's garage. Again, not the point of the story.)

Anyway, this CCD camera was extremely hard to use. It was built weirdly (it was cooled by external fans that didn't have any sort of protection around them? While setting it up once it sliced my finger, presumably giving it a taste for blood), and it ran on some non-standard janky software that no one knew how to use.

Long story short, just getting this damn camera to work was a whole ordeal. A small group from the astronomy club had gathered in the club's observatory late one night, and we were all huddled around this tiny laptop screen in the dark next to the telescope where the CCD camera was attached, with dozens of cables hanging off of it that surely didn't pose tripping hazards.

We were trying to take a picture of the Dumbbell Nebula, but weren't able to find it. We knew we were in the right ballpark, but it just wasn't showing up in the field of view.

Thus began the mind-numbing process of adjusting the telescope a tiny bit, then turning on the CCD and then waiting for the minute-long exposure to finish so we could see if anything showed up in the shot. (There are much better ways to set this up, but we were a bunch of extremely tired college students and were not making the best decisions.)

We stood there in mostly silence for what felt like hours, repeating this process and looking at a field of black until eventually, something fuzzy showed up in the field of view.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone cheer that joyously in my life. We were elated at seeing this blurry piece of shit show up in the camera. Was the picture good? Hell no, but at least we had something to show for our efforts. (I sadly don't have the picture anymore, otherwise I'd show it.)

The Orion Nebula

Probably the most basic answer, yeah. But you have to love this nebula. It's easy to find, bright (for a nebula), and is home to an interesting star cluster as well. You can even see it with the naked eye if you go somewhere that's dark enough.

I'm pretty biased because Orion is my favorite constellation, and the Orion Nebula is the easiest nebula in Orion to spot. But I love it anyways.

So...it seems I still have much work to do using Photoshop.

After seeing such a crossover clipart done by @r3dp4nd4ch1ld, I decided to bust out the Photoshop software and work on making digital illustrations with The 40 along with improving my drawing skills regarding my webcomic-in-progress.

In this crossover digital illustration, I started off with Zuko and Izuku traveling through a desert dimension at night and seeing the stars that illuminate the night sky. As they spot the constellations, Izuku explains to Zuko many of the real-world constellations found in his world by pointing at one famous example, Orion's Belt. As the two walk through the peaceful dimension while sightseeing, Zuko bonds with Izuku by admitting that upon witnessing sights like these, everything just falls into place as you no longer worry over things that plague your everyday life, with Izuku agreeing.

An Israeli drone company is proselytizing to American police departments about an autonomous drone system that can automatically launch police drones to fly to the sites of suspected crimes. One sheriff’s department in Louisiana has repeatedly tested the system, called Orion, which is already in use by the Israeli national police and, since October 7, many Israeli settlements, according to the company’s founder. Created by the Israeli company High Lander, Orion allows users to direct hundreds of drones at once by automating them to navigate and perform actions without user input. The software system turns drones into “next-generation security guards,” according to an Orion brochure. In February, High Lander held a demo event in Baton Rouge to showcase the “drone-in-a-box solution,” which the East Baton Rouge Sherrif’s Office first tested out last June. “The system will be a game changer for the fight against crime in Baton Rouge,” High Lander wrote in a LinkedIn post about the event, which was attended by officers from around the country. The company has used its pilot program in Louisiana to encourage other police agencies to check out Orion, and its February event in Louisiana was just one part of a tour that included stops in San Diego, Phoenix, and Miami, according to LinkedIn posts. Orion’s capabilities are startling. A police force could have drones automatically launch from charging stations when triggered by “events like gunshots, burglaries, and car accidents.” Once they deploy, the drones can perform pre-set tasks: releasing cargo; relaying live video feeds; identifying and searching for people, objects, or vehicles using AI and thermal sensors; and making announcements over loudspeaker. If the system gets multiple calls, Orion can automatically choose which to prioritize. A High Lander blog post about the project adds “new capabilities are being discovered all the time.” The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office held “mock scenario testing” with High Lander’s system “approximately 5 times,” Casey Hicks, the department’s public information director, told The Intercept. Hicks added that the demos were conducted at the sheriff’s range facility and that they “are not aware of any use out in the community at any time.” High Lander did not respond to a request for comment.

YAYYYYYY :)))

okay so this is completely non fandom related lol I just went on a deep (ish) dive the other day about astrophotography! So as you know I do take pictures of space but I’m like the absolute beginner of beginners lol. My current equipment is a tripod and a decent camera and that’s it for photography, so I wanted to see what I’d have to get or what other techniques I could use to progress further. The biggest problem is exposure time - you need a longer exposure to capture the light needed to show the details of such faint objects as nebulae and galaxies, but a longer exposure creates star trails due to the rotation of the earth (nooooo). Also a higher magnification emphasises star trails. There are two ways to combat this: one is time consuming, the other is expensive. The first way, the one I’m going to try first as i do not have money to spend currently, is to stack photographs. I’m going to have to look more into the specifics of how this works once I have the time to try, but essentially you take a lot of short exposures of the same object then layer them all together in the right software to effectively produce a photograph of a much longer exposure. Luckily for me there are at least two recommended softwares that are free (yay!!!) and seem to work well from what I’ve seen, so I’m going to give it a shot at some point. The main thing that seems complicated is apparently you have to have different types of shots to layer? Dark ones and light ones and all sorts so I’ve got more to learn. I will be relying on the Sky At Night astrophotography explainers for this! For the exposures I am aware of the 500 rule: you divide 500 by your focal length (amount of zoom) times the crop factor (intrinsic to the camera) to get the maximum length of exposure time without trailing. I currently go over this limit sometimes as I don’t mind a small amount of trailing, but if I want sharp photos for layering I’m going to have to pay it more heed, which unfortunately means a larger amount of exposures is required to create the final image. Anyway, the second way to combat star trails is to use a tracking mount - a motorised tripod that tracks the movement of the stars across the sky. These are stupidly fucking expensive but by god do I wish I had one as it means you can almost expose for as long as you like with zero trailing. At that point your enemy becomes keeping the contrast high so, as the Sky At Night magazine highly recommends, most people still stack photos and do editing even with a tracker, but again it is not necessary with a tracker if you get the right settings. Plus less photos to stack. Currently, my plan is to first try stacking with my current equipment, then long term to buy the following equipment: 1) a tracking addition for my telescope tripod, 2) an attachment for said tripod that allows my camera to sit on top instead (ie so then the tracker kills two birds with one stone), and finally 3) an adapter for my camera to attach to the telescope itself, essentially becoming one huge zoom lens. In total this could cost up to £1000 so this is very much long term goals but THINK OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS I COULD TAKE!!!! For now, I’m waiting till the sun finally lessens its grasp on the sky and the nights darken again (as, I cannot emphasise how much it does NOT get dark AT ALL here in summer), then my targets will (probably) be the andromeda galaxy, Orion Nebula, and Pleiades for my first attempts at stacking!

CDH: Command and Data Handling Officer; manages computer systems, software, data, and display interfaces on Orion

U.S. Navy receives second 'End Judgment Aircraft' Mercury updated

Northrop Grumman successfully delivered the second upgraded E-6B Mercury aircraft to the U.S. Navy as part of its Integrated Modification and Maintenance Agreement (IMMC).

In a recent post on X, Northrop Grumman said that this achievement comes with the remarkable feat of overcoming the previous modification time in 19 weeks.

Under the IMMC contract, Northrop Grumman will make vital modifications to the Navy's E-6B aircraft, improving the command, control and communications functions that play a crucial role in connecting the national command authority with the United States Nuclear Triad.

As an integral part of the Take Charge and Move Out (TACAMO) strategic communications mission, the E-6B operates within a wide spectrum of frequencies, facilitating the secure and unsecure transmission of voice and data. The main objective of the aircraft is to provide airborne command, control and support of survivor-capable, reliable and long-lasting communications for high-ranking officers, including the President, Secretary of Defense and the United States Strategic Command.

Northrop Grumman has a proven track record in providing support and modernization, which covers contractor logistics support, fleet administration, mission planning, weapon system development, pilot training and software design engineering.

The company's expertise extends to various aircraft systems, including the F-35 Lightning II, P-3 Orion, BACN E-11A, E-8C, A-10 Thunderbolt II, B-2 Spirit, RQ-4 Global Hawk and more. This last contract further solidifies Northrop Grumman's position in aircraft maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade.
