I have been fortunate enough to write for Get Your Comic On, and as a result, I have had early access to the Something is Killing the Children series.

Erica Slaughter is one of my favourite characters, so being able to read these issues in advance is such a privilege.

Currently got three Stargent files in my WIP folder!! Very excited about having not-Peter-involving ideas for Chris and Stiles (it was hard to pry him away from them uwu).

Special Hunter Training

Which, I already talked about before. So since I already summarized it in detail, have a tiiiny little sneak peek:

Chris heaved a deep sigh and crossed his (very delicious and strong) arms over his (well-defined and barely hidden by the too tight shirt) chest. Stiles was in just so, so, so much trouble. He absolutely needed to stop being attracted to Beacon Hills’ hottest DILF like right now.

“What do you want from me, Stiles?”

For you to pin me against the nearest wall again, maybe push me around a little, and then fuck me until I can’t walk. Stiles bit his tongue hard to keep himself from saying all the very inappropriate things his fear boner was telling him to say and instead tried to give an appropriate answer. It was hard (much like his fear boner, hah), but for once his non-existent brain to mouth filter cooperated.

“I want you to teach me how to fight a hunter,” Stiles raised his chin and held Chris’ eyes. “And I want you to teach me how to fight like a hunter.”

Hunting the Heart

Okay so originally this was part of Special Hunter Training, but then the former took kind of a different turn and focused more on healing and growth (not what you would expect from the sneak peek above, I know) and the angle on this changed a little too, so I decided to split it into two separate and different fics.

The idea was for Chris and Stiles to go on a hunting trip, originally as part of Stiles' training, but I then changed it to add a little more Sad Stiles. I have this hard headcanon that the sheriff taught Stiles how to use a gun and that the two of them go hunting once a month as father-son-bonding. But with how severely understaffed the sheriff station is due to whoever last attacked it and slaughtered deputies, his dad has to cancel on him and Stiles gets it, totally gets it, but is still miserable about it.

When Chris sees Stiles be miserable during the next pack meeting and overhears the reason for it, he offers Stiles to go with him instead, which Stiles first declines because he doesn't want to be a bother but when Chris insists, Stiles agrees.

So, yeah, "there is only one tent" hunting trip to get them together ;D

To Build a Pack with Broken Pieces

While the other two are Mischief Monday oneshots (aka ~5k), this I already know is gonna be a longer oneshot. I fully blame Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy) for this idea, by the way, because writing werewolf and Alpha Chris made me want to write this.

Things happen more or less as they do in canon, Chris and Isaac leave for France after Allison's death. And then Chris gets turned into a werewolf and kills the Alpha in the process. He now has one beta, in Isaac, but that's not a pack yet.

The "more or less" is my usual "Boyd and Erica are FULLY ALIVE THANK YOU VERY MUCH", so... Isaac stayed in contact with them, even as the two travel the US, staying in towns with packs for a couple weeks or so but never fully joining any pack.

Now Isaac has an Alpha without a pack and two former pack mates without an Alpha.

Isaac and Chris return to the US to meet with Boyd and Erica and have them join their little pack. In the process, they also track down Derek and Peter, who had left Beacon Hills too but didn't have a new pack yet either (Petopher friendship ftw).

Basically, Chris somehow becomes Alpha of the former Hale Pack. But something is still missing. Ever since he was turned, he has this itch under his skin and he can't scratch it. He just knows that he needs to see Stiles.

When the Argent Pack returns to Beacon Hills, they realize two things. Stiles was not coping with everything that had happened as well as they had thought... and Stiles is Chris' True Mate.

Some were rejected for good reasons: Freddie Mercury isn’t a girl, Princess Di died too recently, and Trish is from one lady’s single Tiktok. Some were rejected for petty and foolish reasons, such as “I don’t like Hetalia” and “I don’t like early 2000s movies.”

Under the cut is all the match-ups in plain text for those of you who with to ctrl+F for their girlboss. If your own girlboss didn’t make it in, feel free to send in asks about how I’m a fool for running this poll without including your rejected babygirl.

Additionally, feel free to peruse the original spreadsheet to see everyone who didn’t make it in. It is organized in no way shape or form besides the occasional collating of characters who had multiple submissions (notably, Vriska).

If there’s anything I should know about any of the accepted girlbosses (”The person who played this girlboss is currently being prosecuted for murder in North Carolina” or other similar aspects of despicability that should get them disqualified) please inform me off-anon, with evidence. While some of these girlbosses are literal murderers, those who have shed human blood are either fictional or have been dead for over a century, but I don’t want any current murderers around. I want everyone on tumblr to be able to enjoy this tournament if possible.

Something is Killing the Children, Vol. 1-3

Reading has become something of a habit for me, an activity that I come to, again and again, for a great portion of my scarce free time. It's quite rare for me not to be in the mood for reading either books or fanfics, but it does happen.

I found myself in this weird mood in the last days of July and, not knowing what else to do, read three graphic novels, back to back. It's a good start as any to the book review section of this blog!

Something is Killing the Children, vol. 1, by James Tynion IV, Werther Dell'Edera and Miquel Muerto.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This graphic novel went beyond my expectations! The tropes used are well-known—small town in which children are going missing or appearing dead, a mysterious badass monster hunter, etc—but with just enough originality and soul to make it interesting and to leave you wanting to know more. The whole setup reminded me of Supernatural, which was quite nostalgic. Erica is a really compelling main character, and the rest of the characters are interesting and well-rounded as well, though the dialogue did feel stilted at times.

The art is beautiful, conveying a lot of emotion (Erica's eyes alone!), with some great coloring and amazing pacing. It managed to be very creepy and hard-hitting at times, while also keeping a fast-past thriller aspect.

The next volume in the series was addicting— I really couldn't put it down. The art is just as beautiful and vivid, and the story strikes a good balance between creepy, action scenes and character exploration.

It was cool to learn more about the world of monster hunters as well as Erica's backstory. It's everything I wish slashers to be, honestly.

This was a througly thrilling conclusion to the Archer Peaks arc! It was just as bloody, creepy and full of action as the last two volumes. The pacing is amazing, and I like how the details about the world are revealed slowly, keeping us always eager to know more.

I do think the ending was a bit swift, since I expected the House of Slaughter to be more of a problem. I'm still excited to continue reading, though!

Gonna confess but one of my very reason for liking Celica is asides from her design, personality (both in character and narrative-wise) and super awesome voice (I absolutely adore Erica Lindbeck’s voice for Celica and fuck that dumbass on Twitter for accusing her of starting a so-called harassment campaign when she just wanted to set boundaries on her job), is the fact how she and her friends manages to recruit a lot of good-looking hunks (From Saber, Atlas, Kamui, Jesse, Valbar and potentially Deen) and even one canonically gay man in Leon in her own story route.

Celica is such a sweetheart, I think what also makes her stand out to me over most of the other princesses I’ve seen in FEH is her heartbreaking origins. Her mother Liprica (which SERIOUSLY IS, I’D SPEND MONEY IF YOU MADE LIPRICA A PLAYABLE UNIT! CONSIDER IT PLEASE!) was abducted from the Temple of Mila (which side note, part of the reason I dislike Mila is WHY did she just let it happen and not go after Liprica?! She literally sits around and doesn’t do shit like when the temple was invaded until directly confronted by Rudolf wielding Falchion), and she was forced to be part of Lima’s harem. And Lima didn’t really give a shit about any of his children, he just sent them all away to live in villas until they were slaughtered. So Celica gets uprooted TWICE in her life before finally settling as a priestess. It’s such a good position for her to be in due to her nature. Though I will say… One thing I don’t like about her was how angry she got at Alm going to war against Rigel, it makes her hypocritical. Celica, honey, sweetheart, you are LITERALLY leading a small army to Rigel yourself at some point. And Alm is just trying to protect Zofia.

And YES the men she recruits in her route are incredibly handsome (though Jesse, much as I love him and his character, has a pretty generic “handsome” design lol). And personally I feel like out of the LGBT rep in the series, Leon has to be the best for me due to his story and knowing that even if Valbar will never love him back, he’ll do everything in his power to assist Valbar with his mission just to return the kindness Valbar showed him. It’s very sweet and I think what makes Leon the best is the fact that he’s not linked as a support for a playable unit (like Niles or Yuri) so his feelings for Valbar are a genuine part of his character.

Ranking Stranger Things Characters from Who is Least to Most Likely Dying in Season 5

Number 1 will be the least likely and the last number will be the most likely. It could be possible that nobody will die in St5 but these are just my opinions on who will be likely to die or survive by the time the show ends.

1) Erica. It would be way to dark and cruel to kill a young child. I get that they had many kids get slaughtered in the lab (which was horrendous) but I feel if Erica died, it would be even more dark because we’ve grown to know her and love her. It just seems so cruel and ruthless to deny this poor child a chance at growing up. Also it would be horrible to kill off one of the only two black main stranger things characters. They would deservedly get backlash for it.

2 ) Robin. They’re not doing a ‘Bury Your Gays’ trope. They would deservedly get backlash for it if they did.

3) Will. The same reason as Robin and also because the first two seasons where about finding and keeping him safe. If he died, the all of that would be pointless. Additionally, this poor kid has been through so much, he definitely deserves a happy ending.

4) Hopper. They pulled the ‘Hopper is dead’ card once. They are not going to do it again. Also this poor man has been through so much, let him have his happy ending.

5)Lucas. Killing the only black character that has been around since season 1? Needlessly cruel. They would deservedly get backlash. It’s even worse that he is one of the most sidelined characters. Also killing him off while he is also grieving over Max is very cruel and dark.

6) Nancy. I can’t see them killing her off. I don’t think the writers will kill a main character who had so much screentime.

7) Joyce. She has been through way too much. Give her a happy ending. Not to mention that all the Byers and El and Hop would be devastated.

8) Dustin. Killing him off while he is grieving over Eddie is very cruel.

9) Argyle. I don’t see why they would. Also killing the only latino character is horrible, They will deservedly get backlash for it.

10)Mike. The same reason as Nancy. I do find it a bit weird that the writers mentioned they will not kill Mike next season because it would be too sad. It makes me suspicious that something will happen to him.

11)Johnathan. I can’t see it happening, especially as it would be way too painful for the Byers and El.

12)El. They already pulled the ‘El sacrificed herself to save her friends’ card once, they will not do it again. I am not 100% sure though, so that’s why I put her at the 12th spot. It is a popular theory because El dying was season 1’s original ending. I think it would be a horrible narrative choice because El going though so much abuse and trauma, only to end up dead sends a dark and hopeless message.

13) Max. The writers planned for her to die in season 4 but didn’t go through with it. That could either be a good thing or a bad thing. I think it would be cruel to kill her, given that she’s already suffered enough. Killing someone who has suffered from suicidal ideation also sends a rather hopeless and dark message.

14)Steve. I thought they were going to kill him in season 4 but they didn’t, so I feel like they won’t kill him off now. Killing off Eddie served almost the same narrative as killing off Steve would have, so it would be kind of redundant to do it but writers usually kill off the fan-favourite comic relief character who is a main but not the main main.

15)Karen. I thought that they might kill her off in season 4 because I had this theory that either Mike or Dustin will get a dark arc in season 5 and that would happen by killing off either Karen or Eddie. Since that didn’t happen in season 4, I don’t think that will happen in season 5 but I could also see it them killing her off in the middle of season 5 to add more bleakness and hopelessness to the season before the climax.

16)Murray. I could see them killing him off, though I would be sad if they did.

17)Enzo. I guess they could kill him off but I honestly don’t think he will even be in season 5.

18) Dr Owens. I’m surprised he’s not already dead from the explosion.

19) Henry Creel. I would be shocked if he didn’t die.

So Stranger Things definitely has a season 5 where everything will be wrapped up with a bow. And sadly, I think tHe PoWeR oF LoVe will be the thing to win the day, as CW Flash as that seems. And with Mike and Eleven being separate and him not saying “I love you,” it’s gonna end with him doing it and kissing her and that’s how she gets the power to do whatever she’s gonna do. Very Fifth Element style. But until then, we have a season 4 finale; an hour and 20 minute episode and then a 2 HOUR AND 30 MINUTE mini-movie finale.

So let’s count the open threads we have:

- Eddie Munson is still wanted by the cops and the whole town is after him, including that Jesus-y basketball douche and his croneys

- Eleven just unlocked that memory, sees she didn’t kill everyone but One did, so she has her powers back, but the US military is closing in on that base, along with Owens and Brenner. **Something to keep in mind, when they showed Owens and Eleven going into that bunker, they did say, “12 hours ago” so there possibly is a bit of a headstart (but judging by the trailers, one of the first things to happen seems to be them getting there and the bunker going bye bye)

- Mike, Will, Jonathan and Argyle are at Suzie’s house in Salt Lake City getting info on Eleven’s whereabouts and are presumably on their way there, same as the military.

- Nancy at the end of the season got grabbed by Vecna and is possessed, right before she was going to go through the gate and back to the real world. Vecna monologued like a true villain and told her his origin story, similar to how Eleven is relearning it in the Nina machine. Judging from promo materials, she gets rescued quickly.

- The rest of the gang; Dustin, Lucas, Max, Erica, Steve, Robin and our boy Eddie (along with Nancy), they are all in Eddie’s trailer rescuing folks and then judging by trailers are going to go into the Upside Down to get Vecna.

- Vecna’s lair seems to be Creel House, as we saw the boss battle location but our main characters chose to level up first instead of taking on the final enemy. It was revealed Vecna was the son of Victor Creel who developed telekinetic powers and turned evil because he didn’t fit in with the world. He murdered his mother and sister but before he could murder his father, he went into a coma. He awoke in the care of Dr. Brenner, who tried controlling his power, but realized he was evil and instead put an inhibitor chip in his neck and attempted to MK Ultra his way into more test subjects. One then manipulated Eleven into freeing him, leading him to slaughter the entire Hawkins Lab and all of the test subjects. He asks Eleven to join him to rule the galaxy reshape the world and she refuses, they fight, she gets pissed and opens some kind of a portal to another dimension. He gets sucked in and transformed by the Upside Down into a monster.

- As a followup to that, what made Vecna wait however many years to stage a comeback like this? Is he working with or for the Mind Flayer? Who is the real big bad in the Upside Down?

- And then in Russia, Hop and Enzo were saved from the Demogorgon by Joyce and Murray, and they are temporarily holed up in a secure location in the Russian prison they are in. Trailers show them exploring a secret Russian med lab with other creatures from the Upside Down and continuing to fight the Demogorgon.

So there’s a lot of threads left open. I think regardless of what happens, there’s a lot of people right now that are hanging around and doing some F’ed up stuff and are inching closer to “Fuck around and find out” territory. Like Jason and his witch hunt who thinks this is witchcraft and Satanism instead of something real that will murder you and there’s nothing you can do about it. Or the military who thinks guns and weapons are going to be able to kill an evil telekinetic monster. Up to this point it’s been morons getting taken out by these Upside Down monsters. Our main group of 20 or so characters has been exposed to it and knows. The people who are murdered like Chrissy and Fred and Patrick and Barb and Billy, all the people sucked in by the Mind Flayer, they know, but then are immediately killed. The soldiers in Russia, the soldiers in Hawkins Lab. NOBODY ELSE has been exposed to this. Even the military thinks it’s Eleven doing remote assassinations.

Therefore I think there has to be a scene, or multiple scenes, where the military or the town of Hawkins and all this religious dogma, they encounter the Upside Down in full force. Vecna walks through a gate and now he’s just chillin right there, maybe he brings some Demodogs or Demogorgons. And they just absolutely massacre everyone. Like, the Demogorgon attack on the Russian prisoners was a little much, but I’m talking like, full on bloodbath. Show people what they’re working with.

So then, you lead into Season 5, the Upside Down is definitely a thing now that a lot of people know about. We’re in an all-out war on earth. But season 4 I think has to end with the Empire winning here. Maybe the kids win a battle, but the bad guys, the monsters, they’re going to win the day.
