11 Frequently Asked Questions About CSCS Card

Your CSCS card itself costs £36. Taking your CITB Health, Safety, and Environment test costs £22.50. So that’s £58.50 in total.
How long does a CSCS card last?
Most CSCS cards last for up to five years and are easy to renew. However, there are some that are temporary. For more details on the different cards, check out the above section, or head over to the CSCS website.
CSCS Green Card
How long does it take to get a CSCS card?
When you’ve paid for your CSCS card, it’ll be posted to you the next working day. So, you should get it within 3–5 days. You can also get a digital copy straight after payment via the My CSCS app.
How long does an HS&E test last?
The CITB Health, Safety, and Environment test is 45 minutes long and has 50 multiple-choice questions. The test is taken at a CITB-approved test centre, so make sure you arrive 15 minutes before the start time.
What if you don’t have a CITB (HS&E) ID?
In most cases to apply for a CSCS card you are required to pass the appropriate level of the CITB Health, safety, and Environment (HS&E) test within the last two years.
If I fail, my HS&E test can I retake it?
Yes. You can book another test after 24 hours. Just be aware that you can’t actually sit another test for 48 hours from your original test time.

CSCS cards are only recognized in the UK construction industry. However, some international construction companies may accept CSCS cards as evidence of knowledge, competence, and experience.
What happens if I lose my CSCS card?
In that case, you can apply for a replacement card online or by post. There is a fee for replacement cards, and it may take several days to get a new CSCS card.
Health and construction
Is it mandatory to have any sort of CSCS card to work in a construction company?
While it’s not legally required to have a CSCS card to work in a construction company, many construction companies and sites require their workers to obtain a valid CSCS card as a measure of competence and safety.
How long does it take for a CSCS card to be approved?
The length of time it takes for a CSCS card to be approved can vary depending on the type of card being applied for and the application method used. Typically, once your application is approved, your CSCS card will be dispatched to you on the following working day. Most cards are delivered to their specified location within 3–5 working days after the approval of the application.
Other requirements to work in construction
As well as having a CSCS card, you may need why not look into other qualifications or requirements to work in construction.
For instance, a Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) qualification, asbestos awareness training, specialised NVQS — or if you’re about to become a supervisor, a Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS).
Learning about health and safety in different environments is also important. Doing so gives you a competitive advantage when it comes to employment.
The last piece of the puzzle is business insurance. To make sure you’re fully protected from accidents and risks that might occur on-site, insurance is a must. And many supervisors or larger construction companies may require you to have some level of cover in order to work with them.

Not to be confused with Spotify.
Shopify Inc., stylized as shopify is a Canadian multinational e-commerce company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario.
Criticism
In 2017, the #DeleteShopify hashtag campaign called for a boycott of Shopify for allowing Breitbart News to host a shop on its platform. Shopify's CEO, Tobias Lütke, responded to the criticism,[109] saying "refusing to do business with the site would constitute a violation of free speech".
In October 2017, Citron Research founder, short-seller Andrew Left released a report which claimed Shopify was overstating the number of merchants using the e-commerce platform and described it as a "get-rich-quick" scheme in contravention of Federal Trade Commission regulations. The day the report was released, the stock plunged more than 11%. Left wrote another report about Shopify in April 2019, stating he believed Shopify's stock price would come down 50% in the next 12 months. In January 2020, Left announced in his annual letter to investors that Citron Research had exited the short position. The reports did not lead to an investigation into Shopify by the FTC.
In July 2022, Shopify was criticized by left-leaning media watchdog Media Matters for hosting the online store of far-right, anti-LGBT influencer Libs of TikTok. In response to Media Matters, a Shopify spokesperson stated that Libs of TikTok was not in violation of the company's Acceptable Use Policy, which "clearly outlines the activities that are not permitted on [the] platform." In November 2022, this criticism was renewed when an article published by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) article highlighted Ottawa City Council member Ariel Troster's criticism of the company in light of a recent shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub. Sharing the CBC article, Nandini Jammi of Check My Ads criticized Shopify on Twitter. In response to Jammi, CEO Tobias Lütke tweeted, "Shopify has a published acceptable use policy and a principled process to apply it. Pressure groups on all sides try to influence it sometimes and CBC needs to see through that not amplify bad faith narrative."
Lawsuits
In December 2021, a group of publishers including Pearson Education, Inc., Macmillan Learning, Cengage Learning, Inc., Elsevier Inc., and McGraw Hill sued Shopify claiming that it had failed to remove listings and stores selling pirated copies of their books and learning materials. The lawsuit was settled "amicably" out of court; the details were not disclosed.
A class-action lawsuit for $130 million was filed in May 2023 by employees who had been laid off.
In June 2023 Shopify announced a fight against "patent trolls" who "stealthily orchestrate hundreds of patent litigation cases yearly", and filed a lawsuit.
Data breach
In September 2020, Shopify confirmed a data breach in which customer data from fewer than 200 merchants was stolen. One of those merchants later said over 4,900 of their customers alone had had their information accessed. Shopify claims that the data stolen included names, addresses and order details, but not "complete payment card numbers or other sensitive personal or financial information." Shopify said that there was no evidence that the data had been misused, and identified two "rogue members" of its support team as having been responsible. They were fired, and the matter was forwarded to the FBI.
Tobias "Tobi" Lütke MSC is a German/Canadian entrepreneur who is the co-founder and CEO of Shopify, an e-commerce company based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Lütke was born in Koblenz, Germany in 1981. He received a Schneider CPC (German brand of the Amstrad Colour Personal Computer distributed by the Schneider Rundfunkwerke AG) from his parents at the age of six. By 11 or 12, he began rewriting the code of the games he played and modifying computer hardware as a hobby. Lütke dropped out of school and entered an apprenticeship program at the Koblenzer Carl-Benz-School to become a computer programmer after tenth grade. He moved from Germany to Canada in 2002.
Reasons for posting the shady history of the Canadian based German run company Shopify and its Child Protege, owner Tobias Lutke will be cleared up soon.

Some stuffs from CLAMP Commentary today that I still remember:
For Vol. 3's cover, they actually designed so Seishiro would be the one sitting and Subaru is the one standing! They actually changed the order because the heights looked off and with Seishiro sitting, he truly looked like a mafia boss and Subaru as his underlings 😭 also they actually added... cuffs? Idk how to call it around the righ arm and left leg, but scrapped it.
Vol. 3 is about the public phone. They actually searched the exact spot for the public telephones. Talk about dedication. Not only that, one of the members actually went to fortune tellers to get her fortune read for references. Another reason why you should read this manga, they really pictured the actual thing here.
For Vol. 4's cover, there are two designs for it with Subaru sitting on the top of something Hokuto standing, but since they were twins, it would look either cuter or better if they stand next to each other. Also I can't with them saying "we discussed if it's okay to give Subaru high heels and we are permitted to. It's good to see a boy with high heels" and I was like '???? 😭😭😭😭😭😭???? Thank you??'
For the content, I remembered they pointed out several fashions point for Hokuto that they actually bought some for the sake of references.
They also discussed Vol. 5 and 6 designs. For Vol. 5, they only drew one draft and get forward with it. 😂 But for Vol. 6, they showed around 4 designs and actually wanted to go forward with Hokuto and Subaru sitting next to each other (and Hokuto wore buns hairstyle too!). But someone from the publisher I think reminded them that the pose is actually used in XXXHolic CPC volume 8 (Yuuko and Jorougumo) so they said "okay, sorry 😭" and scrapped that one. Eventually they went along with the announced version.
Oh! Talking about volume 5, they actually mentioned about Seishiro's shoulders in both volume 3 and 5. They said that they drew it like that because they just liked it, no other specific reasons, and it can't be helped that they want to add the cape for Volume 5 thus the view from the back. It won't be as board as it was in original TB and X but when you see him in Vol 3 draft sketch, you can see that they are probably around Kurogane's or Fuuma's in TRC. Mokona-sensei is doing her best.
They also talked about the color arrangements for the volumes. I didn't catch this part well because I'm doing something else, but they thought the orange should be volume 4 and pink is volume 6.
After that, they showed the telephone cards (it was a thing in Vol 3 actually) with TB's characters. Also the original cover printing from volume one to seven. They also showed the acrylic stand if you bought all seven volumes.
Finally, for announcement, they won't do commentary for Vol 5 and 6 (thus they talked about it in today's live) but they are going to think about it after Vol 7's (pre-order?) release. They also said to wait for the next CPC announcement, I mean, we only have two months left and I think TB's CPC was announced like 2 months before final Holic's releases. As much I hope it would be X they probably won't do it so soon. I mean please it will be their anniversary soon and CPC will be a good way to actually finish the series. Like PLEASE I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN THE REST UNREVEALED THREE VOLUMES.
That's it from today! I think the final cover will Subaru solo, also a good point to close the series (with the stuff going on in that volume), and move on to another series... Waiting until Subaru's another appearance in possibly X's cover 🤧
Edit: I saw the rough sketches for Vol 3 again and the shoulders didn't exist 😂 Is it really shoulder pads?
#i will probably do this again when im sane enough#their lives are fun actually#i listened to their spaces#and todays one is so funny#when they mentioned about seishiro and said it cant be helped i held my laugh#please watch the live to see the references!#clamp#tokyo babylon#please take this with a grain of salt

So I want to make a general-purpose (if I had to choose one topic, it would be to describe symbolic computation ala 'TuringTarpit' around video rental store deque operations) programming language 'Servitor' with specific analogical media and low-tech [any medieval scroll vellum media included] constraints in mind.

Skool Daze (ZX Spectrum)
Developed/Published by: David Reidy, Helen Reidy / Microsphere Released: 12/1984 Completed: 18/07/2022 Completion: Went up a year! Trophies / Achievements: n/a
What I said a couple of weeks ago about Soccer on the NES being worse than a Spectrum game had me suddenly thinking if there was anything particularly important I’d missed as I work my way forward through the years, and while there are some things here and there I might go back to, one release caught my eye: Skool Daze, released at the tail end of 1984 and 15th on the Insert Credit Best British Games Spectacular.
Skool Daze is a game that–if I’m being completely honest–I’ve played more in its first retro remake, Klass of ‘99 (which is now older than Skool Daze was at the time of the remake, but let’s not think about that) because it’s one of the rare(-ish) games that was released on ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 but that never actually made it to Amstrad CPC. That means for me it was a game that (although it was well in the class of “crusty old budget games” even when I got my Amstrad) I simply pined after having read about it in multi-format magazines. In fact, I can literally remember looking at an advert for Alternative Software’s budget range of I think £1.99 games with each game with a wee checkbox for Spectrum, C64, CPC, and genuinely being disappointed about how unfair it was there was no checkbox for CPC next to Skool Daze. It’s funny the mundane things you remember.
Skool Daze is also one of those games that, in whatever format I’ve played it, I’ve simply messed around with, with no actual attempt to efficiently finish it, until now. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s an early school… simulator? Sandbox? It’s the kind of game that I think of as quite exclusively British, honestly–messy, over-ambitious, and not simply interested in using systems to create emergent play, but to do so in a way recognisable to its audience. I’d love to be able to pinpoint when this kind of game design went truly fallow in the face of more strictly narrative or linear experiences, or if it was truly always just the domain of the iconoclast, where it remains to this day.
(If you were to push me on it, part of me thinks the phenomenon of Doom was the end of any future where games could concentrate on being simulation sandboxes; for me, Doom was a step back from Ultima Underworld. Yes, I still want to talk to the monsters.)
Anyway, in Skool Daze, you play Eric (who can be named whatever you like, as with all of the other characters–a spark of genius allowing its schoolboy audience “recreate” their own experiences) who, aware his report card is a complete disaster, must steal it from the school safe in order to (I assume) doctor it. To do so, Eric has to first, uh, make all the shields that hang around the school start flashing by hitting them, which, uh, makes all the teachers reveal their secret code letter for the safe, apart from Mr Creak, who can’t be trusted with it (so was… um… hypnotised) and will only reveal it if he sees his birthdate drawn on a blackboard. Then you write the code on a blackboard, nick the report from the safe, and hit all the shields again!
What I sort of love about that completely deranged task list is how clearly it comes from the limitations of making a game on a Spectrum and also (honestly) the fact that the developers (David and Helen Reidy and Keith Warrington) were clearly more interested in making a school sandbox than a strict video game experience. Surprisingly (after playing things like the willfully obtuse Tower of Druaga) here they actually explain exactly what you’ve got to do in the cassette inlay–not so helpful if you’ve pirated it like everyone probably did at the time, admittedly, so I wonder how many players really did just play it as a sandbox survival!
What makes it actually interesting, of course, is that whether or not you’re actually interested in finishing the game is the simulation of a school day. You’ve got classes to get to, teachers and other students follow their own routines, and you can’t just do whatever–if a teacher sees you hit another student, or use a catapult, you’ll get lines, and if you try to skip a class they’ll pursue you doling out hundreds of lines what feels like every second. And in class, there’s often not enough seats, leading to yet more lines as students turf you out of your seat onto the floor.
It’s a fascinating experience, if a challengingly dated one. It’s honestly not any worse to control than Soccer on NES, but it does have its quirks–I remember playing games with QAOP movement, but it’s amusing to see how unintuitive the “intuitive” decision to place actions like jump on “J” and firing your catapult on “F” is. It’s just a bit… fussy. Going up and down stairs is a challenge, and your catapult is extremely temperamental–you can’t fire too close, or too far, and you miss sometimes anyway in a way that feels like a bug, but I suspect is some calculation being made that you missed instead of hit (though that’s pure speculation as there’s no feedback.) But the game is a clever take on a stealth genre that didn’t really exist yet–you can get away with stuff if a teacher’s back is turned, you’re far enough away, and especially if another (named) child is closer to the teacher as they’ll get the lines instead. Important, because you get expelled as soon as you hit 10,000 lines, which is honestly very easy as teachers randomly assign you between 100 and about 800 lines, making some mistakes very costly.
The game even has events, which is surprising–sometimes the swotty kid goes to tell on you and you have to stop him (by punching him a lot out of the view of teachers) to stop yourself getting lines; other times you’re stuck trying to avoid the bully who has mumps (annoyingly this causes an instant game over). Along with all the lessons having the teachers actually talk about stuff, there’s a surprising amount of stuff in a game intended for a stock 48k Speccy!
Actually completing it though… hmm. I’ll say here that you’re going to have the most fun with this just messing around with it or even treating it as a survival score attack; hit as many teachers and kids as you can, survive as long as possible. Completing it is simply a bit too exacting and I’m not going to lie that after a bunch of runs I gave up and started using save-states. You see, the game might allow you to really complete it in any fashion you want, but unless you want to poke the game’s memory to limit the number of lines you get (beyond me) you really have to complete the game quickly to not die from lines, making any completion feel like a very exactly speed-run. The school design doesn’t especially help–the top floor all shields can be hit by leaping but the bottom floor requires you hit teachers to bounce your catapult ammo off their heads to hit shields, and if you don’t time it exactly right you’ll get lines and no benefit.
Worst is the middle floor; you can hit teachers or punch students and jump on them to hit the shields, but the majority of them are in a dead-end exam room that is almost always empty. As a result you’re probably going to have to skive a class to get in while another class is in there, and because the school isn’t loopable, avoiding a teacher for long enough to get to the next period (at which point they lose interest) is next to impossible.
(My caveat here is it might be possible to play the game slowly, very carefully, but there’s so much simulation randomness that you can suddenly find yourself stuck getting knocked down by the bully in front of a teacher, getting thousands of lines…)
So the game does sort of devolve into a puzzle if you try to complete it, but I think in 1984 playing the game a lot, learning the timetable, seeing how teachers would move around, would have made this a perfectly enjoyable puzzle, and it’s simply that in 2022 I don’t want to have to restart the game again just because my stupid catapult missed or I was one nanosecond too early with my hit to actually get the shield meant I turned to the easy way out.
I won’t lie; this is a hard game to play now, but I also won’t lie that I played it for hours. Occasionally frustrated, but always entertained by the little school dramas being played out in front of me.
Will I ever play it again? No, but I’ll be checking out Back To Skool for sure and might even look at Klass of 99 again, which pretty heavily changes things in a way I didn’t even remember at the time (it might use the Back To Skool school layout? I’m not sure.)
Final Thought: Skool Daze has a modern remake as well that I didn’t know about until writing this up, Skool Daze: Reskooled, but it is absolutely horrendous looking, with horrible art and animation. Which probably sounds a bit rich considering I just spent hours playing something with four frames of animation and heavy color clash, but seriously, just look at it. Bleurgh.

Trudeau promises massive covid stimulus
Canadian Prime Ministers have a fun gambit: when things start to go really badly for them, they "prorogue" (suspend) Parliament, which dissolves all committees, inquiries, etc, until such time as they are ready to reconvene, with a tabula rasa.
Most egregiously, the far-right asshole and climate criminal Stephen Harper prorogued Parliament in the middle of the 2008 Great Financial Crisis in order to avoid a no-confidence vote that would have triggered new elections.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008%E2%80%932009_Canadian_parliamentary_dispute
While this DID save Harper's bacon, it also left Canada without a legislature during a global crisis that threatened the nation's entire future. It was a crazed, reckless thing to do.
Canada has a safeguard to prevent this kind of gambit: as a constitutional monarchy, Canadian parliamentary manoeuvres have to receive the Crown's blessing, in the form of assent from the Governor General, the Queen's rep to Canada.
This is the sober, apolitical adult supervision that fans of constitutional monarchies are always banging on about, and then-Governor General Michaëlle Jean completely failed to do her fucking job, leaving Canada without a Parliament during the GFC. She literally had one job.
Proroguing Parliament didn't just save Harper from a no-confidence vote: it also dissolved all the Parliamentary inquiries underway at the time, including the "Afghan detainee transfer" affair, which was investigating Canadian forces' complicity in the torture-murder of POWs.
In many ways, Trudeau is the anti-Harper: a charismatic Liberal who tells refugees they're welcome in Canada, marches with Greta Thunberg, and appoints the first-ever First Nations person to serve as Attorney General .
Truly, there is no policy so progressive that Trudeau won't endorse it...provided he doesn't actually have to make it into policy. Because many of his policies are indistinguishable from Harperism, albeit with a better haircut.
This started before he won the election, when Trudeau (whose father once declared martial law!) whipped his MPs to vote for a human-rights-denying mass surveillance bill, C-51.
Trudeau did so while insisting that the bill was a massive overreach and totally unacceptable, but claiming that the "loyal opposition" should still back it so as not to be accused of being soft on terrorism in the coming election. He promised to repeal it after.
Of course, he didn't.
Trudeau is often compared to Obama, a young and charismatic fellow who makes compromises, sure, but comes through in the clutch.
Tell that to pipeline protesters.
After the Obama administration killed the Transmountain Pipeline - the continent-spanning tube that would make filthy, planet-destroying tar sands profitable enough to bring to market - Trudeau bailed it out, spending billions of federal dollars to keep it alive.
Then, Trudeau - who campaigned on nation-to-nation truth and reconciliation with First Nations - announced that he would shove this toxic tar-sand tube through unceded treaty lands across the breadth of the naiton.
And then he had the AUDACITY to march with Greta Thunberg at the head of a climate march, demanding a change to policies that would see billions dead in the coming century.
HIS OWN policies.
I mean, Trudeau's boosters have a point - Harper NEVER could have pulled that off.
The Harper years were a Trumpian orgy of blatant self-dealing and cronyism.
The Trudeau years, on the other hand...
One of Trudeau's major donors is SNC Lavalin, a crime syndicate masquerading as a global engineering firm (think Halliburton with less morals).
SNC Lavalin had done so much crime that it was on its final notice with the Canadian legal sysem, a probation that it must not violate on penalty of real, big boy federal criminal prosecutions.
Then it did more crimes.
Remember Trudeau's historic appointment of a First Nations woman to the Attorney General's seat? Now was AG Jody Wilson-Raybould's moment to shine.
As Wilson-Raybould began aggressively pursuing these corporate criminals, she started getting calls from Trudeau's office.
For avoidance of doubt, these were not calls of support. They were demands to drop the case and let the SNC Lavalin crime syndicate get off scot-free. Eventually the PM himself called her and demanded that she give his cronies a pass on their repeated criminal actions.
Wilson-Raybould went public, decrying political meddling in the justice system. Trudeau denied everything and began to smear her (Harper had tons of scandals like this, BTW, only the counterpart was usually a rich old white guy, not a First Nations woman).
But Wilson-Raybould had recorded the conversations, and she released the recordings, and proved that Trudeau had lied about the whole thing. Trudeau fired her and kicked her out of the party.
But at least he's not Trump, right? He's the anti-Trump! (Well, except for the pipeline and that time he announced "No country would find 173 billion barrels of oil in the ground and leave them there").
Remember the Muslim Ban? As Trump was tormenting refugees at the US border, Trudeau tweeted "To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada."
Yes, that was awesome. There is no policy so progressive that Trudeau won't endorse it...provided that he never has to do anything to make it happen.
Canada and the US have a "Safe Third Country Agreement" that says that asylum-seekers turned away from the US border can't try again in Canada. To make #WelcomeToCanada more than a hashtag, Trudeau's government would have to suspend that agreement.
Instead, Trudeau's government insisted that under Trump, "the conditions of the Safe Third Country Agreement continued to be met" and thus they would not suspend the agreement and give hearings to those turned away by Trump's border guards.
But at least Trudeau handled the pandemic better than Harper handled the Great Financial Crisis.
No, really, he did!
Mostly.
I mean, unless you were in a nursing home or on a First Nations reservation.
https://www.canadalandshow.com/podcast/an-emergency-season-pandemic/
But still, Trudeau's government did a MUCH better job than the Trump government, or Boris Johnson's Tories. Neither Liberals nor Conservatives will really fight cronyism, climate change or authoritarianism, but there are still substantive differences between them.
But in some ways, they are depressingly similar.
Take corruption.
Long before the plague struck, Canadaland was publishing damning reports on We Charity, a massive, beloved Canadian charitable institution nominally devoted to ending child slavery.
Canadaland's initial reporting on the charity focused on its partnerships with companies that were using child slaves to make their products, but the investigations mushroomed after the charity sent dire legal threats to the news organisation over its coverage.
And then Canadaland founder Jesse Brown found himself smeared by a US dirty-tricks organization that got its start working for GOP politicians, who got a contract to plant editorials criticizing Canadaland's We coverage in small-town US newspapers.
Private eyes started following Brown around, even keeping tabs on his small children. Rather than being intimidated, Brown kept up the pressure on We, which prompted whistleblowers to leak him even more details about the charity's activities.
https://pluralistic.net/2020/08/03/turnkey-authoritarianism/#we-charity
These included massive, mysterious real-estate holdings, hard-to-excuse criminal investigations of its Kenyan activities, and (here's where I've been going with this all along) GIANT CASH PAYMENTS to Trudeau's family, as well as valuable gifts to his Finance Minister.
And, as with the Wilson-Reybould affair, Trudeau's initial response to this was to simply deny it, calling his accusers liars. But then the scandal kept unspooling, his Finance Minister quit in disgrace, the charity (sort of) folded up and shut down, and Trudeau...
Well, Trudeau prorogued Parliament, shutting down Canada's government in the midst of a crisis that was - unimaginably - even worse than the 2008 crisis that Harper had left the nation rudderless through to avoid his own scandal.
(Again, for constitutional monarchy fans, that's two entirely political proroguings in the midsts of global crises, signed off on by the Queen's supposedly apolitical and sober check on reckless activity)
Shutting down Parliament seems to have rescued Trudeau's government from snap elections, which may well have been won by the Tories, who have resolved their longstanding racist and plutocratic tensions with a new ghoulish nightmare leader:
https://jacobinmag.com/2020/09/canada-erin-otoole-conservative-party-cpc/
And, as Trudeau has reconvened Parliament, he's promised something genuinely amazing: a massive, national stimulus package meant to keep families, workers and small businesses afloat through the looming second pandemic wave.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-canada-economy/canada-bets-the-farm-on-big-spending-as-second-wave-threatens-economic-recovery-idUSKCN26F1NF
This is something Canada - and the US, for that matter - desperately needs. Canada is monetarily sovereign: it issues its own currency and its debt is in the same currency, meaning it can never run out of money (no more than Apple could ever run out of Itunes gift cards).
The Canadian DOES face constraints on its spending, but they're just not MONETARY constraints - they're RESOURCE constraints. If the Canadian government creates money to buy the same things the private sector is shopping for, there'll be a bidding war, AKA inflation.
But as a new wave of lockdowns and mass illness looms over the country, there's going to be a hell of a lot of things the private sector isn't trying to buy - notably, the labour of the Canadian workforce, millions of whom will be locked indoors through the winter.
An analyst warns that Trudeau's proposal is likely to add CAD30B to the deficit, which is a completely irrelevant fact unless that new money is going to be chasing the same goods that Canadian business and citizens are seeking to buy.
Trudeau has promised to create a national prescription drug plan (a longstanding hole in Canada's national health care system), as well as universal childcare, and he's denounced austerity as a response to the crisis.
There's a part of me that is very glad to see this. My family and friends are in Canada, after all, and if Trudeau lives up to his promise, he will shield them from the collapse we're seeing in the USA.
But that is a BIG if. Trudeau isn't Harper. He's more charismatic, he's got better hair, and he says much, much better things than Harper.
However, when the chips are down, Trudeau out-Harpers Harper.
Mass surveillance legislation. Corruption scandals. Lying about corruption scandals. Bailing out the pipeline. "No country would find 173 billion barrels of oil in the ground and leave them there." Abandoning asylum-seekers to Trump's lawless regime.
"Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time it's enemy action." It would be pretty naive to assume that merely because Trudeau has promised to do the right thing, that he will do the right thing.
Indeed, if history is any indicator, the best way to predict what Trudeau will do is to assume that it will be the OPPOSITE of whatever he promises.
I won't lie. I felt a spark of hope when I read Trudeau's words.
But hope is all I've got - and it's a far cry from confidence.
Or relief.

A Comprehensive and Easy-to-Digest Guide to Google Ads Budgeting
Budgeting is always a tedious task. Whether you are saving bucks to pay your rent for an overpriced apartment or paving your way to the internet realm, or both at the same time, it pushes the average person into a strenuous situation.
While there are some ways to lighten this insanity, there’s no way to avoid budgeting appropriately without crippling yourself in the future entirely. That’s particularly the case with Google Ads, where each click either represents your business growth or your hard-earned money turning into paper.
Moreover, unfortunately, there are scarce resources that take a comprehensive approach to Google Ads budgeting. So it means you will have to fathom it yourself.
This guide will discuss everything you need to know about proper PPC budgeting strategy from scratch. To make things a bit easier, we have divided this entire guide into three easily digestible parts:
Deciding your initial Google Ads budget
Allocating spend across different search campaign types
Budgeting for everything else Google Ads offers
So without wasting another moment, let’s dive into the details, shall we?
1. DECIDING YOUR INITIAL GOOGLE ADS BUDGET
Let’s say you have handed over your credit card details, funded your Google Ads account, and have also installed Google Ads Editor. But what next?
Now you have to ascertain your total expenditure in the first quarter. And by that, we don’t mean month, week, day, or even hour. We mean the first click on your ad.
While deciding your initial Google Ads budget, you should ask yourself these primary questions:
How do Google Ads fit in your existing marketing strategy?
What and where are your competitors spending their budget currently?
What is the cost-per-click of the keywords you are bidding on at the moment?
Which key performance indicators do you care about the most?
Once you find answers to all these questions, you will be all set to jump into the different types of campaigns, their optimization, and ultimately expansion. Keeping this in mind, let us dive into these questions now.
How Do Google Ads Align With Your Existing Marketing Strategy?
In case your business is the local community’s basic necessity or enjoys a thriving online presence (i.e., you’re a thought leader in your industry bringing loads of organic traffic to your website with good SEO and content writing), there’s a high probability that your leads will arrive at your door themselves willing to purchase. On the contrary, a business in the making that has its finger on its target audience’s pulse can accomplish something similar via a diehard social following. Moreover, this organic traffic is essentially “free of cost,” aside from the time and efforts of whoever leads these efforts, of course.
Also, think about the different marketing channels you use with the purpose of growing your business. These channels might include commercials, radio ads, billboards, and so on.
Write down all the marketing channels you employ and ask yourself: is the goal of my Google Ads account to reinforce my current efforts or supplant them?
What and Where Are Your Competitors Spending Their Budget Currently?
Go ahead and perform a Google search for your brand’s name right away. What appears at the top of the search results page?
Unless you are new to Google Adwords, your answer should be our optimized-to-the-gills branded advertisements. Nevertheless, if you happen to be a novice, a gambler would bet that the SERP is filled with your competitors.
Other than your branded keywords, there are several tools (such as Google Keyword Planner) you can use to get a sense of what and where your competitors are spending their advertising budget.
With this data at your disposal, you can quickly build strategies to dethrone your competitors’ ads from the top positions in the search results and discover (less expensive) keywords that no one else was intelligent enough to bid on before you turned up.
What Is the Cost-per-Click of the Keywords You Are Bidding on at the Moment?
Remember the tools we mentioned in the above section? Well, it’s time to put them to use once again.
One of the most elementary ways to decide your advertising budget is to weigh up the CPC of the keywords you are bidding on currently. Is this information enough on its own when it comes to determining a budget? Of course, not. But it does give a good starting point.
Visit Google Keyword Planner and in the left interface, fill in one of your landing pages. Modify the rest of the parameters, including location, industry, terms to avoid, etc., accordingly and browse through the lists of potential keywords together with their comparative popularity and advertiser competition.
Now try the same with the pages that relate to all the products or services your business offers. It will undoubtedly unveil some underrated search phrases that you can place your bids on next. Preferably, you want to search for as many high-traffic and low-competition keywords with commercial intent as possible. That’s how you’ll find your sweet spot.
We will take a deeper dive into this in some time. But it all comes down to this: keywords suggesting affinity or urgency tend to convert more compared to terms that don’t. Moreover, a branded search term communicates more intent than a competitor term. For example, the search phrase “cab from boston to brookline midnight” conveys way more urgency (and is hence more valuable) than “cab service,” although its search volume might be notably lesser.
Which Key Performance Indicators Do You Care About the Most?
As they say, save the best for the last. This is the most crucial question you need to ask yourself. A key performance indicator can be defined as a measurable value that allows an individual or business to measure performance. As a matter of fact, not all businesses give the same level of importance to the same thing.
For some businesses, cost per acquisition is the lifeblood. You wouldn’t believe the number of initial calls that starts with a cost per acquisition plucked out of thin air. If you are confident that this is the key performance indicator for your business, fix a goal rooted in logic. However, if something more concrete suits your style better, you can ascertain, on average, how many conversions it takes to result in an actual customer (tracked via Google Ads) and figure out your real cost per acquisition. However, you can also leverage your current cost per acquisition from other channels, set it as a goal for paid search and accordingly increase or decrease as you get your hands on more data over time.
Additionally, businesses utilize several other key performance indicators as barometers for effective Google Ads campaigns. So, in the end, it’s up to you to figure out which one is best for your business.
Once you answer all four of these questions successfully, check out your discoveries. To decide your budget, you will want to consider the key performance indicators that you plan to judge your performance on, along with the number of leads or sales you are hoping to gather from Google Ads. Check out the other marketing channels you are employing and try to implement any related goals you have set as your starting point for Google Ads. At last, weigh up the CPC of keywords that you will probably bid on by analyzing the ones that your competitors have picked already (and also the ones they haven’t yet).
Key Takeaways:
Leverage data from your existing marketing efforts in order to inform the structure and budget of your Google Ads account.
Use keyword research and competitor analysis to decrease your learning curve and get the ball rolling.
Ascertain your budget by determining the key performance indicators that matter the most to you and working in reverse from the figures representing profitability.
2. ALLOCATING SPEND ACROSS DIFFERENT SEARCH CAMPAIGN TYPES
In general terms, all your Google Ads search campaigns will come under one of these five categories: research, top performers, high intent, competitor, and branded. While all these classifications are adaptable, some of them are outright liquid.
Logic says that you should feed most of your Google Ads budget to your top-performing search terms. But what about the remaining of them?
Top-of-the-Funnel Keywords
Often, a novice will build PPC campaigns targeting top-of-the-funnel keywords. For example, an enterprising yet acutely under-informed chartered public accountant will bid on the keyword “chartered public accountant.” And it sounds logical, right?
But unfortunately, in the majority of the industries, such keywords will mostly cost you a fortune. For some terms, the price can easily be more than $50 a click! However, that’s not necessarily the case with all industries and keywords. Now that we have made our point, you need to find out if your vertical is overflowing with soaring CPCs. However, the biggest problem with such keywords is not even the price; it’s the intent.
To provide you with a little context, let’s suppose you are a disorganized upstart in the business card industry which happens to be extremely competitive. When you look for keywords with the most average monthly searches, you find the search phrase “business cards” at the top position. But think about the users searching for this term – most of them will be wantrepreneurs who will never complete an order. So instead of spending those couple of dollars here, you will want to spend them on keywords that communicate intent better, such as “buy business cards” or a bit more costly but more commercial “order business cards.”
Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that top-of-the-funnel terms are necessarily expensive or worthless. Such keywords are undoubtedly an incredible way to generate brand awareness and incorporate more prospects into your remarketing list. So if you do choose to bid on these, make sure you do it smartly. Pick a less pricey keyword such as “free business cards,” add the prospects to your list and remarket to them.
Branded Keywords
For some confusing and unfathomable reason, using branded keywords is usually disputed. But that’s silly.
Although your site must be the first thing that appears in the organic search results when a user Googles your business, there’s also a massive piece of real estate above the organic listings that your competitors are free to claim, if, of course, you don’t do it first.
Think of this: your competitors are made to pay a premium if they want to bid on your brand, but the cost-per-click you will see for the same keywords will be much cheaper. That’s because your landing page ad copy and domain are going to be hyper-relevant to the terms, leading to maximized Quality Score and thus lower CPCs.
Long story short, though branded keywords should in no way be the only terms you bid on, allocating spend to secure SERP domination is necessary.
Competitor Keywords
Recall everything we discussed regarding branded keywords. Now the opposite stands true when it comes to bidding on competitor keywords. What we did with the top-of-the-funnel keywords is exactly what you will want to do here – make use of research and common sense to make sure you are not merely burning your Google Ads budget on terms that won’t ever convert.
One of the biggest blunders that advertisers often make here is that they bid on the wrong competitor keywords. When picking competitor keywords to bid on, as a rule of thumb, ensure that you select actual competitors that you’re truly contending against. Pick competitors who you believe you have a competitive edge over, whether it is – better features, prices, quality, or anything else.
High-Intent Keywords
If top-of-the-funnel keywords are an expensive wild goose chase, think of high-intent keywords as golden eggs dropped into your lap.
High-intent terms are available in two flavors – “buy now” and “product/service.” You will want to make sure that you’re using the largest chunk of your Google Ads budget to bid on keywords that come under one of these classifications (extra points if you are able to unveil keywords that exist somewhere in the middle).
In general terms, “buy now” keywords are the ones that suggest that a potential customer is prepared to make the final decision about your product/service. They have either completed their research or been referred by a close friend, and now it is time to purchase. Usually, these “buy now” terms consist of top-of-the-funnel keywords joined with terms such as buy, free shipping, discount, coupon, deal, and so on.
For more clarity on how research is different from the intent to buy, pick any random keywords, say “summer dresses.” Check out the keyword “summer dresses,” followed by the various “buy now” iterations.
Needless to say, the search volume for “summer dresses” will be dramatically higher compared to the other terms. But those other terms convey more intent to purchase.
On the other hand, the “product/service” terms comprise:
Branded searches
Particular products/services (Samsung TV, car maintenance)
Categories of products (winter outfits, travel accessories)
Top
Best
Cheapest
Comparison
Affordable, and so on
While this is a much wider category, not all types of product/service terms will turn into a top-converting keyword for you.
Having said that, the only way to ascertain what does not work for your business is to try out everything as consciously as possible. If something drains your account, stop it right away, but if it converts at a CPA (cost per acquisition) considerably below the account average, you have got your hands on the best converter.
Top Performers
After operating your Google Ads account for at least a month, you will get a good sense of the keywords that are and aren’t worth spending your budget on. The middling keywords for which your ads show up consistently but never appear to acquire clicks illustrate opportunity. Zero in on producing a decent ad copy for such terms. Introduce a few modifications to your landing page. And double, triple-check your ad extensions. In case, after a couple of weeks, you still don’t get any clicks (or even worse, you get clicks but no conversions), eliminate those keywords.
Transferring your top-performing terms into their own ad campaign(s) will help you gain increased control over how much portion of your overall budget is used up for keywords that have performed well earlier. Wondering what the advantage is? The single converting term will no longer be thrown in with ten other keywords that do nothing except draining your budget.
Caution: By removing a keyword from its original ad group, you lose. Since, in this scenario, the Google Ad account is rather new, it sounds more logical to transfer your underperforming terms into new campaigns.
Now, the main question is: how exactly are you going to divide your paid search budget among these campaigns?
Ideally, you should spend most of your budget on those terms with the best shot at converting. Here branded keywords are the exception. Even though branded terms illustrate intent (familiarity), they have alow ceiling and don’t inevitably reflect “brand new” customers. Therefore, when it comes to your branded keywords while dominating your competition is crucial, owing to the relatively lower search volume and maximized Quality Scores, your overall Google ads budget should be most deliberately focused on those high-intent “buy now” and “product/service” terms.
Also, keep in mind that these categories are liquid (as mentioned earlier). While high-intent keywords should ideally be your top performers, that might not be the case always. Each ad account, each niche is different. Whenever in doubt, check out your existing data carefully and then make changes accordingly.
Key Takeaways:
Concentrate most of your budget on high-intent terms, including branded keywords.
Top-of-the-funnel keywords can dig a hole in your pocket. Remember, there are much better and affordable ways to reach a broader audience.
Fine-tune your budget allocation every week to secure maximum return on investment (ROI).
3. BUDGETING FOR EVERYTHING ELSE GOOGLE ADS OFFERS
While the search is the heart and soul of most Google Ads accounts, the platform does provide the advertisers with some other alternatives as well, including the display and remarketing (often via display, though remarketing on search can be fruitful too).
Based on your respective vertical, these options can complement or even entirely replace traditional search advertising. In any case, these can dramatically affect how you spend your money on Google Ads. To clarify, let’s dive into the details.
Display
While the clicks here are cheaper compared to traditional search, with the substantial drop off in direct conversions, the real question is: Is the GDN worth it?
Short answer – yes, a million times, YES!
Remember everything we talked about “intent” previously in this post? When using the GDN (Google Display Network), users viewing your ads don’t really have much of it. The display is much more similar to conventional advertising (imagine billboards) than traditional search, but of course, with the added advantages of on-demand analytics and better ad targeting.
Apart from remarketing, the GDN has three primary functions – generating brand awareness, displaying your product, and supporting a long sales process. It also makes loads of targeting options available to you. Wondering what’s the catch here?
However, the lack of conversions that can be directly attributable to the Google Display Network can make it hard to justify, particularly for small businesses that have limited budgets. With that said, there are still a few ways you can get started with GDN without setting your hard-earned money on fire.
When trying to dip your toes in the GDN, it is recommended to start with in-market audiences or managed ad placements. Long story short, this enables you to display banner creative on particular sites or to users whose web browsing history suggests that their interests align with what you are offering.
Once you get successful in this, you can then employ some other strategies and expand your Display budget to build the ideal complementary network strategy.
Remarketing
Remarketing is indeed a vital element of Google Ads. All businesses regardless of their vertical, can benefit from using it.
One of the best and easiest ways to ascertain your initial remarketing budget is to evaluate the percentage of total conversions originating from returning website visitors and then allocate the same percentage of your budget to remarketing. Sounds too abstract? No worries, let us take a look at an example.
Suppose you own an online clothing store. Last week, you collected 1000 clicks and sold 100 summer dresses on Google Ads. As per findings, 10 of those dresses were bought by returning site visitors. Now allocating 10% of your search budget to remarketing provides you with the opportunity to drive those remaining 900 non-converting visitors back to your site.
However, some account managers are against remarketing simply because, at the core, it means paying money to drive the same people back to your website numerous times. But don’t you think that it is better than the given people never converting or, even worse, purchasing something from your competitor instead? In addition to this, returning visitors tend to convert more than the new ones.
Key Takeaways:
Remarketing (dynamic remarketing in particular) isn’t optional. Make the most out of your budget by persuading more site visitors to convert.
Allow the GDN to take care of your top-of-the-funnel work so as to save your search budget for more qualified leads.
WRAPPING IT UP
Finally, this comprehensive guide to Google Ads budgeting has reached its end.
By now, you have efficiently figured out your starting point and consciously allocated spend to different search campaigns, and started expanding your overall budget to include everything that Google Ads offers you.
Apart from the eventual optimization, which is essential if you wish to get the most out of your Google Ads budget, you can also extend your advertising efforts to other platforms. Even though opting for Bing Ads sounds like the most logical step to take next, you may find Facebook or LinkedIn Ads pretty beneficial for your business as well.
That was all you needed to know about proper Google Ads budgeting. So what are you waiting for now? Go ahead and get started with it!
Happy advertising!

Game Review: Aliens
Electric Dreams / 1987 / C64
Also released on Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, MSX and C16
With one eye firmly on Halloween, we’re going to review some games that used to make us breathe heavily, grasping our joysticks tightly in our sweaty palms...
Based on James Cameron’s sequel to the archetypal sci-fi body-horror Alien, Aliens is possibly one of the most panic-inducing games of the 8-bit era. It goes without saying that it’s hard to actually scare anyone on an 8-bit computer, unless blocky, jerky and flickery graphics bring you out in a cold sweat. What you can do, however, is force the player into having to make a series of quickfire decisions under stressful conditions, juggling resources and trying to keep order in the face of the impossible, like an air traffic controller in a power cut.
Aliens is played from a first-person perspective, and at first glance seems like a fairly simple game. You start in the middle of the operations room in LV-426, in control of Ellen Ripley and a team of 5 space marines who’ve been sent to find the alien queen and rid the base of her menace. You get a cross-hair, which is where your bullets will go. You can look around to the left or right, and you can step through a door to another room with a press of the space bar.
Nothing much is happening right at the start of the game, but don’t worry, it won’t stay that way for long!
The queen sits in a room right in the depths of the base. You use the keyboard to select individual team-members, but you can only directly control one at a time. Each member is represented by a nice little image and a stat bar showing how tired they are. There are no practical differences between each team member, which is a bit of a wasted opportunity, but the images are still a nice touch if you’ve seen the film, and help the player identify with their soldiers. Your team grows weary if they move too far without a rest; they’ll be unable to move and will aim more slowly until given time to recuperate.
You can issue orders for any team member to move a number of rooms in any compass direction, and they’ll carry out your instructions to the best of their ability once you switch out. On the way you’ll encounter alien warriors, eggs and face huggers... or they’ll encounter you as they’ll actively try and hunt down your group.
When one of your characters is in the same room as an alien you’ll hear a warning noise. This is a sinister beeping when you’re not controlling the character directly, and a panic inducing klaxon when you are. What ensues next is a desperate fumble to find the correct key to select the character who is in trouble, followed by an anguished pan around the room in search of the invader. Obviously you’ve only got a limited time to do all this, and the warning tone gets quicker and increasingly agitated to make sure you’re well aware of this fact.
I see you!
Once you spot the alien, you’ve got to line him up and blast him before he gets to you. One head-shot should do it, but you won’t get a clean shot, because by now your heart rate is sure to be through the roof. He’ll run right at you too, making you waste a bunch of (limited!) ammo on him.
If you’re super lucky, several team members will be attacked at the same time, which is probably more tense than doing a driving test naked with a wasp in the car.
If the alien gets you the warning tone will change to a forlorn peep. That signifies your character being bundled up for immediate xenomorph oral impregnation. You’ve got a short time to get someone else to the room to take the alien out, but if you don’t get there in time you’ve lost them for good. Their little picture will disappear and you’ll get nothing but static if you switch to their screen.
Another nasty twist: if you blast an alien in front of a door it’ll leave a pool of acid blood which will kill your character outright should they try to exit that way.
There are a few things you can do to keep yourself alive. You can shoot out the control panels next to any door, which will prevent aliens coming through for a time. This is a one-time only deal, because you’ll have to blow the door open if you want to use it again. You can also re-stock a team member’s ammo at a specific room in the complex. This is useful, because running out of ammo is as good as a death sentence. You’ll also need a map. There’s no in game map provided, though the room number each character occupies is shown next to their image. The full price release provided a fold out map in the box, and you’ll need this. Make sure you have a copy handy, because the game is almost unplayably hard unless you have one!
One last thing. The aliens spread a sort of fungal growth around the rooms, which can cover doors and must be blasted away. There’s a generator room somewhere in the complex, and if the walls there get covered by alien fungus the LIGHTS WILL TURN OUT!
I can’t emphasise enough what bad news this is, because hunting for aliens by shadows alone is probably about as much fun as falling into the sharps bin in an STD clinic.
Film licenses had a pretty bad reputation for the discerning 8-bit gamer, tending to be shoddy and quickly thrown together efforts. Aliens is both an excellent game in its own right and perfect at evoking the tension and atmosphere of the film. There’s also quite a bit of tactical depth here too. Do you keep your group of soldiers together? Move as quickly as possible to the queen chamber? Maybe try to fan out and secure the generator room and armoury?
Ripley is looking a bit off colour today.
It’s also worth mentioning that there was also another Aliens game released for 8-bit micros, developed by Activision in the U.S. This takes a different approach to the license, presenting the film as a series of mini-game levels such as landing the drop-ship, fighting your way through the base to save Newt, the last surviving colonist, and the climactic one-on-one mechanical loader duel with the alien queen. This is also a good game, and well worth seeking out if you're a fan of the franchise, though for my money not quite as well conceived and executed as the U.K. version.
Playing it today
If you don't want to follow the obvious route of emulation and you’ve got a real C64, Amstrad CPC or Spectrum to hand, this should be easy to pick up for a few quid online. If you fancy something slightly more polished, there’s a fine looking windows PC remake ‘LV-426’ by Derbian Games that can be downloaded for free.
Commentariat
Tim: Ah, Aliens. Back when the franchise was actually scary and not a pastiche of itself.
As I suspect many others, I bought this on budget when it appeared on the Ricochet label from Mastertronic. This release really lacked the one thing that helped gameplay. A map.
The full price release had pull-out one included with the game; Mastertronic however, probably decided that including a separate sheet for just one title would have cost too much. And been yet another inlay for the staff at Menzies in the Clydebank Shopping Centre to lose. Zzap 64 published one for those of us without, but as I didn’t have that issue, I was in the dark. Quite literally, as it was more fun to play with the lights off.
Life is too short to make maps, so instead I ended up creeping about the complex, not really knowing where I was. Sounds dull, right? Well, no. The game oozes atmosphere; the graphics are tight and well executed, and though the C64’s SID chip is hardly taxed, the sounds that are there do the trick. The throbbing noise when an alien approaches, your exhausted marine out of ammo but still you frantically pull the trigger of their Pulse Rifle in the vain hope that maybe, just maybe there will be one last shell in there to give you a fighting chance. What I particularly like though is the freedom of gameplay, choosing to use your team as individuals or cooperatively as squads, investigating the different parts of the base separately. Pretty cool, when you consider it’s all done in just 64k.
Do I have fond memories of it? Yes. Would I play it again? Absolutely.
Meat: This game is an intense experience, likely to elicit some strong swear words if you’re not in the right mood for it. It’s certainly engrossing stuff though, and tough to beat. One thing though. Which genius decided that the ‘m’ key should restart the game? You know, the one next to the ‘n‘ key you use to tell your soldiers to move north? Nice one.
Pop: I played this a few years before seeing the film, but in retrospect it’s a very clever use of the license. It was also a really tense experience for an 8-bit game, particularly later on when your soldiers are assaulted by wave after wave of aliens and face huggers. Like many games of the era, it’s perhaps a little arcane for today’s audience, what with having to use the keyboard to select the different team members, but still playable and still enjoyable today. It’s the kind of game I can imagine working perfectly on a VR helmet, though that might be a little too much immersion for comfort!
Strangely enough, one of my strongest memories of this game was actually waiting for it to load off cassette tape. The Mastertronic re-release copy I played (borrowed off Tim, of course!) had a neat game of space-invaders that you got to play while waiting for the loading process to complete, accompanied by some very atmospheric music. This ‘invade-a-load’ appeared on a few C64 tape games, but in my head it’s always tied to playing Aliens.
Score card
Presentation 4/10
Very basic indeed. No intro screen, title crawl or music. The box contained a map, which is essential and should have been a part of the game itself.
Originality 8/10
An extremely novel use of a film license. The mix of first person perspective, team management and light strategy elements put this in a class of its own. Sadly, most licensed games of the 8-bit era tended to use cookie-cutter gameplay which was usually executed better elsewhere.
Graphics 7/10
Very clear and atmospheric, you’ll have no problem working out what everything is. The images for the team members are well drawn and clear for an 8-bit system. On the down side, rooms are drawn predominantly in a single colour and a little more variety in the room designs would be nice. The aliens walk like they’re going for a relaxing afternoon stroll, but the animation when they rush your position is very effective.
Hookability 7/10
Immediately intriguing, but the use of the keyboard and advanced controls for commanding team members require the investment of time to enjoy.
Sound 3/10
Played in near silence, except for gunfire and the alien warning siren. This actually makes the game more atmospheric. A title tune would have been nice.
Lastability 7/10
A decent challenge, it seems impossible until you form a good plan on how to tackle the assault on the base. Like many other games of the era, how much you get out of this game depends on how much you’re willing to put into working out how to play it effectively.
Overall 8/10
A fine example of how to compress the tension and drama of an action film into 64K.

What are you going through now to further your education and online real estate leads business? That's your challenge in 2008 and outside of. As I've stated before, you can still create a highly successful online real estate lead-generation business. However , these days will be numbered. The Web is big, but it's a finite reference. Well, more accurately said, cyberspace is infinite, and yet people will only dig so deep. Real estate Web sites who capture the top spots in the search engines are garnering premium quality leads and massive lists of interested buyers along with sellers. But, as more and more big-brand companies compete and even figure out how to grab high ranking search engine positions, they will slowly but surely elbow out the little guy. It's the nature of an market place to be "open" to early adopters at the beginning and then gradually close to only those that can afford the great investment of time not to mention money needed to stay competitive. As more and more buyers and also sellers use the Internet for real estate research, the "evening plus weekend traditional real estate agent marketing model" is fast staying extinct. If you want to stay competitive in the period ahead, you will have to grab a piece of the Internet action, and now is the time to grow your foothold. You CAN still create a successful real estate over the internet lead-generating business. You CAN still get top spots from the search engines. It's not too late, but I guarantee any time you wait, it soon will be. More and more, I get enquiries from companies selling real estate leads. They notice Now i'm everywhere on the internet. My sites rank very high organically just for specific real estate search terms and cpc. I also personally own the right spots on other real estate portals that travel targeted traffic to my listings, my sites and sure..... generate high quality, exclusive leads. I just received a label from a company selling real estate leads. As published into my book, Internet Real Estate Agent: A Guide To Dominating Internet Realty Leads and Marketing, there are specific questions you must ask in avoiding wasting money and time. After going back and to fruition with the skilled sales rep., I was able to hone down the fundamentals of how the program works. Here's how their direct program works: 1 . A person is watching television, listening to the radio and / or sees a banner ad online. The add is expecting the person to call a phone number to learn about a real estate place a burden on advantage and commission rebate back to them if they obtain or sell real estate. 2 . Pay $60 a month for just a zip code. 3. Pay 19% referral fee within closing (this gets split between the "lead company" as well as customer at closing). 4. Here's the kicker.... the particular leads are given to 7 other agents as well. The real estate sales lead business model isn't new and many providers have a slight variation to it. Personally, I would never order leads from this business model. I prefer to create my own exclusive cause systems. Here's some of the pitfalls with the real estate lead business design you're being sold. 1 . Leads coming from TV, Print, r / c or the internet that rely on some form of incentive offer are likely to be very low quality leads. One of the incentive offers is a "commission rebate program". Need I say more? 2 . The reason pay a monthly fee so you can compete for the result? Why not get EXCLUSIVE leads that are not incentive qualified prospects. You can't do every lead program on earth, so find and chose how you spend your money and time. 3. I have a hard time paying a referral fee to a professional when I'm competing with other agents, given the minimum quality lead and there's no personal relationship. That's not the referral, it's a lead. No relationship, no history rarely are commitment from the potential customer to use me. I like paying reference fees to agents that have personal relationships with their authentic clients. When I get a referral call from another professional, they know the person being referred to me and When i get the client. That's a real referral and qualifies towards the big referral fee. 4. There are so many ways to produce leads. You should pick and chose the best ways to spend your time and money. After reading Internet Real Estate Agent, you won't come prey to poor Internet business models. You may make a mistake or perhaps two--I do from time to time when trying something new--but, all these mistakes are quickly remedied. You will understand exactly how to extend your real estate website, what to know before buying a properties website, advanced concepts for Google AdWords, how to current market your listings online for more leads, the shifting Broker/Agent model and much more. Discover how to set up your own internet realty lead generation machine. Don't be dependent on any one company for sales opportunities. Get educated and become independent! It's the lowest cost real estate instruction and education you will ever spend. It's all about word wide web real estate lead and marketing. Keep this book with you and use it as a trusted reference guide. Start working with your Web site, and then move onto the other areas of online list size and Internet marketing. Agents and Brokers already know they need to market to history clients and their sphere, but it only gets you will so far. They also know the urgent need to embrace the world wide web. The value of traditional farming techniques is diminishing. It's a fact, everyone is mailing something; everyone is doing longer open properties; and everyone is getting into the real estate business. But, rarely anyone is doing online advertising. Even fewer are doing it ideal. In fact , most agents and brokers attempting to do web based lead generation and property marketing are doing it totally erroneous. Don't waste money and time by buying leads originating from a company that sells false dreams of Internet riches. Take control of your business lead systems and start implementing your prepare today. Here's a short sample from the book: Marketing Your own Listings for Leads The majority of this book has been regarding creating a real business Web site, driving quality traffic with your Web site, and converting that traffic into leads. At this time let's focus on how to create more business by online marketing your listing online. You've worked long and very hard to get the listing, now let's leverage that listing to set-up more business. For most of the homes I've sold, typically the buyers began by viewing the pictures and information online and then contacted me about a private showing. Any time you market the property correctly, you will get leads. Using the list of selling resources below, I average over 2, 500 precise property views for each listing. I get highly capable internet buyer and seller leads when marketing a home online. Think about that for a second. Online, people are hunting for a specific home, in a specific area, in a specific college district, in a certain price range, etc .... and my entries are showing up. That's a ton of quality traffic the majority it was free. I just read the other day about a Home of Technology who serves on a major MLS panel who said the traditional business model of getting leads from sustaining open houses is almost dead. People are using the Internet for researching, and they are contacting an agent long before they enter the house. Dependant on my personal experience, I agree with this assessment. Having expended many Sunday's working at open houses, I think it's very rare for someone to walk through the door as well as say "I don't have an agent. " The following list of strategies will put you in a position to actually make more money from each one listing you have. If you don't have any listings or are having their first go real estate, I suggest approaching an agent in your office that has a list of and ask if you can do some Internet advertising for him or her.
