James is not only the one who didn’t pay, he’s the only one who didn’t have any mitigating circumstances. Sirius is vicious, but he comes from a vicious family, and him deciding he was going to back James in everything makes perfect sense for a boy trying to break from his background and wishing he had parents more like James’. Remus is a coward, but him failing to stand up to his friends makes perfect sense from a boy whose condition meant he’d never been accepted before. Peter? Who cares, he’s a plot device.

But James? James had no excuse whatsoever. He was well loved, well cared for, well off financially. He wanted for nothing. He didn’t learn cruelty at the knees of his parents, they doted on him. Which means he’s just a sadist who enjoyed the rush of power he got from humiliating easy targets. And Lily is of questionable character for thinking him hot boyfriend material when he never displays any remorse.

It’s why I always say that, to me, James Potter is nothing more than a Draco Malfoy with “progresist” parents. He basically has the same abusive, classist, and violent attitude as Draco, except that, unlike Draco, James believes he is morally superior because he doesn’t share the typical pure-blood ideals. This makes him an absolute hypocrite, in addition to being a violent bully and a rich brat who takes advantage of his economic and social position to abuse those who are at a disadvantage.

It’s funny how people defend him with arguments like “he’s not a racist” because he accepts Muggle-borns. So, because he accepts Muggle-borns, are we going to ignore the fact that he’s a classist jerk who actively mocks people for having a lower socioeconomic status than him? Or that he uses his economic and social capital against those who don’t have it? Or that, knowing he has the upper hand, he torments those who don’t have the same resources? Like, why should I care that he boasts about a supposedly progressive ideology that’s entirely fake, and never really shows any understanding of, when his actions in the canon prove he’s just another member of the elite oppressing those below him, simply because he has the capital to do so?

He reminds me a lot of several guys I met during my time in political activism at university. I used to hang around leftist groups with Marxist tendencies, and there was always that typical rich kid raised in a bourgeois left-wing family, who was there because they were taught it was the right thing to do, but had no clue about the root of social problems or the reality of working-class life. In fact, their supposed political commitment stemmed from a sense of superiority, which manifested in incredibly patronising attitudes toward the working class. And yes, they’d date girls from humble families because it reinforced the persona they’d created, but in the end, they were the same rich jerks you’d find in right-wing groups. At least the rich jerks on the right didn’t have the audacity to give moralising speeches while still acting like pricks. They were just pricks, plain and simple.

That’s how I see James, but translated into the magical world. And god, how much I’ve hated, been disgusted by, and fought with guys like him. They’ve always made me sick. I’ve literally had better relationships with people whose politics are the polar opposite of mine than with guys like that, because I find them a cancer to any political group. But anyway, I digress. I don’t think there’s anything impressive about James joining the Order or dating a Muggle-born. It’s the bare minimum expected of someone who has had every single privilege, support, and education needed to choose the right path. I think it’s basic. Just like it would be basic to expect someone who’s had no problems in life and everything handed to them on a silver platter to be a decent person rather than a bully. But James Potter chooses to be a bully because his ego, as a rich heteropatriarchal man, can’t handle the fact that a poor kid with a non-normative appearance by masculine standards is friends with the girl he likes. And for that stupid reason, he decides to use all the power he has, and the other doesn’t, to bully him for 7 years. But hey, we should forgive him because, at the end of the day, he joined the Order. I mean, what? No, that’s not how it works.

I could say a lot about Lily too, but I’m just going to copy and paste something I said the other day because it basically sums up my opinion of her:

Honestly, I don’t know if Rowling didn’t think much about this, or if simply because she herself is a terrible person, she thought it was compatible to portray Lily as the epitome of goodness, a kind of perfect being like the Virgin Mary, while also having her marry her friend’s abuser—because, honestly, she’s not. To me, it seems like Lily was a person of questionable morals and ethics, which is ironic because her supposed moral superiority is what leads her to break off her relationship with Severus. What I find illogical is presenting a character who constantly talks about what’s morally right or wrong when her actions are quite contrary to her supposed value system.

I’ve had friendships throughout my life that have ended badly, for one reason or another, and that happens. But I would never, ever think of dating someone I’ve known for years as someone who abuses others, much less people who were my friends. Sometimes I think this is either a plot hole or that Lily was just your typical superficial “pick me” girl who wanted to “not be like other girls,” but deep down, she loved that a rich, popular guy like James was chasing after her. That’s the only explanation that gives her actions some sense—that deep down, her inferiority complex (being a Muggle-born and from a family that wasn’t even middle class) manifested in the need to be liked, be popular, and end up as the object of interest and admiration of rich and popular boys. That would actually be interesting because it would give her character some depth. The problem is that, in canon, all we see is a girl lecturing others on morality and then acting with ethical standards that leave much to be desired, with no explanation.

Because no, sorry, you don’t marry a bully. You might marry a bully if you meet them at 30 and you’re unaware of what they did as a teenager. But you don’t marry a bully you’ve seen harassing and abusing people for 7 years—like, what kind of sense does that make? And even less so do you do that and then give yourself the privilege of judging other people’s behavior and decisions. Lily Evans had no moral ground for that.

I could rant for hours about why she’s a terrible friend and a hypocrite, but I’ll settle for defining her as the typical basic girl who tries to act interesting. Unfortunately, many female characters in the series are like that: “pick me” girls. But then again, that’s nothing more than Rowling’s internalized misogyny coming to light, along with her insecurities projected into the need to be “one of the boys” and her unfounded hatred of women with traditionally feminine traits. And that’s another story.

It amazes me that people can come on here and have the option to be kind to others and leave an incredibly positive impact on people they interact with, and feel good about themselves for it, but choose to be insufferable shitheads who want to bring everyone else down so they feel as miserable and angry too instead. If you can't handle that a properly tagged fic that has explicit warnings about its content is stuff you won't like, the mature thing to do is just shut up and move on. When you start to become you own gestopo trying to police other people's FICTIONAL work that had nothing to do with you in the name of purity censorship rather than just moving on with your own life, you've lost all credibility of calling yourself an "adult". hi to chrom hater anon i'm a professional chrom enjoyer

if you get deranged enough about awakening i think chrom is a very well done character :) he's ignorant but well meaning which meshes in interesting ways. he's not overtly prejudiced to the plegians he knows personally but still *generally* prejudiced because of his upbringing.

additionally in discussions of the ylisse-plegia war he tends to focus on how ylisse came away from it because that state of ylisse is what shaped his formative childhood years (seen particularly in his feelings about emmeryn's early years as exalt). this is UNDERSTANDABLE but still an extremely DEEPLY FLAWED and naive stance when doing politics on a larger scale, which chrom is incredibly ill-prepared for. it's a very childish view of a large scale conflict.

chrom's propensity for violence is a trait that actually deeply fascinates me. he has intense admiration for emmeryn's desire for peace yet he has a very short temper in tense situations (seen in basically all of chrom's interactions with gangrel), and he tends to lash out easily at anyone he views as an enemy. he admires peace but sees no other means to achieve it than violence. isn't that interesting. the implications here. like, he's the inheritor of the falchion, he's the only son in his family, in all likelihood it was expected that HE would take the throne and continue his father's war, but he was so young when the exalt passed that the crown went to emmeryn instead.

it really seems like emmeryn intentionally kept her siblings away from politics, which results in BOTH of them being naive in vastly different ways, with the expectation that she would always shoulder the burden of the crown yet left all the bigger a void when she died.

mind, intentionally being raised to behave this way isn't an excuse either. it's ultimately still something chrom, as an adult, SHOULD examine critically. this is, in fact, a character flaw, and i think its great.

you can then of course do nice little compare and contrast at the shitty dads, i.e. chrom's dad vs validar. robin's first act as an awakened god is murdering validar. robin became the monster everyone saw them as, the one their father thinks they were born to be. it's a neat lil nature vs nurture comparison if you really get into the depths of grima-ology (hi grima ✌️ mutuals).

Truly wish dany/targaryens stans would stop bothering. The amount of daily posts that aim to "counter" or even pander to nonsensical anti bs is excessive and after years quite honestly boring and tedious.

It's always so funny to me that people on booktok will romanticize male characters with dark skin but it's always described in "olive skin" "tanned" similar to middle east, yet they refuse to make a book about these countries 😂

Did you know, anon, that "tall, dark and handsome" started as a code for "Greek", "Italian", "Latino", "Native American" etc? Those male characters were not ethnically "Greek", "Italian", "Latino", "Native American" etc, tho! The reason is, WASP women found the "rugged/dangerous/exotic" man exciting, but at the time those minorities were not seen favorably in Northern nations. Hence, their stories only kept the look minus the ethnicity, plus, the stereotype that those men lacked gentleness and basic courtesy, and they were more daring than their boring WASP husbands.

It's a very tricky situation with Northern Europeans and Americans, because for them, "dark" for a caucasian person either means "a person with a light tan" (because they have a weird fixation on tans sometimes, as they cannot achieve them that easily) or "incredibly dark" (because they cannot fathom other darker shades in between).

Oh, and they always forget that "olive" is a complexion found in almost every country on earth! It's just how much green your skin undertone is! The palest Dutch person can have an olive skin tone! Not every Northerner is super red or deadly pale! And people with olive skin do not necessarily tan! "Olive" is not synonymous with melanin or tanning! It's so weird that they've reduced "olive" to a specific color, or a small range of colors.

It's mind-boggling to me that the concept of a tan causes them such confusion! 😂 Mainly because this confusion can be solved very easily with a simple Google search nowadays! I realize I am also generalizing Northerners for brevity's sake, but please know I am not referring to individuals, only trends in their societies that I observe.

And, now to the elephant in the room. They'd rather change how (for example) the Greek population looks to meet the quota for what they consider "satisfactory diversity" of appearance, rather than use people from an ethnic group where those tones are more easily found! That's so hypocritical! And racist, duh!!

I think they know another reason why they do it. They consider cultures like Greek and Italian to be synonymous with their cultures, hence they can use them as they please and treat our people as placeholders. These cultures do not see them as foreign to them, after centuries of misappropriating them and presenting them like their own heritage. Meanwhile, they suddenly think "Omg I cannot write an Iranian/Iraqi, Egyptian character because that's not my culture!" Bitch, Greek is not your culture either! 😂 Your people will probably call the police when they see a Greek get-together!! 😂 So just accept it's a foreign culture and people, do your research, and you'll be fine!

Side note: Raphael is an original Persian Iranian character of mine. He's on the light-skinned side because he has the look of the Persian groups that came from the Caspian steppe, before the Persian Empire was established. People want the last letter to be fake because “ghetto” has racist connotations and the media might blow things out of proportion. It also comes across as a bit hypocritical considering his own situation and demonstrated shady behaviour (fake ID/masks/disappearing) even if he’s not the shooter.

I personally don’t think it’s real because he previously referred to his cell mates as brothers (a lot of whom come from ghettos) and also it would be incredibly stupid not to be strictly politically correct considering his supporter base is 99% leftists and they will cancel Jesus himself over the slightest micro aggression.

I think people who are freaking out about him dropping personal facts or otherwise being dorky are weird. We don’t know the guy, and he’s probably not this smooth talking Booktok charmer a lot of women want him to be.

However he had to understand how the throwaway mentions of ghetto and shady people in a predominantly black city would look. I never understood why 'progressive' (so to speak) people openly hate others for being Christian or holding beliefs that are different from theirs (talking about an angry anon who has a weird beef with churches and fantasized about killing Christian people and priests.) I am so frustrated at how insensitive and mean some "fans" are being towards Simon. I truly need them to sit down and realize how hypocritical, ignorant and classist they are being. The whole reason Wille was attracted to Simon in the first place was because he spoke his mind and stood up for what he believed in...but now that's wrong? Do people not see how wrong it is to demand Simon, a low-income, brown, gay character to conform to a traditional structure that was made for white, upper class, heterosexual people? I understand that the role of being Crown Prince is taking an extreme toll on Wille and he sees Simon as his only escape but that isn't an excuse to dismiss how Simon's other identities make it harder for him to exist and conform to Wille's world. If you are a privileged, rich white person dating an underprivileged, low-income person of color, the fucking bare minimum you could do is understand how their identities make life more difficult for them. Yes this is about race, yes this is about the class system. If "fans" are too afraid to get into those topics, then I need them to gather their two braincells and realize that the whole point of this show is to call out that racist, classist and outdated system. Yes it is also about love and queerness but that is only one part of it, we need to look at how those themes intersect with the themes of race and class. if i go into a fandom tag and i see rampant nonsense, such as during the 1st two months of fire emblem engage's release or some incredible pumpkin spice latte takes, and i feel like it's just too much bc im getting angry, i just disengage. i might read if i feel like it, but if its too hostile i don't add to the conversation. i leave. i don't pass go bc i have waaaay better things to do than potentially engage in a conversation im already not happy to have.

in some occasions i even block. if i feel like someone is being a dipshit in the posts i make with their tags even, i block.

and i suspect im not the only one. how often do you see asians who reside outside of the west actively partake in fandom discussions? its such a drain of energy when it goes bad. most asians are working faaaaar longer hours than the average westerner in the average office setting. i mean, fuck, man. if i want to have fun, im not coming to a place i know i wont be having much. I think these all really good points about why TB is not really culturally relevant and probably won’t hold up in years from now. I’d also like to add that them parodying very current events is also off-putting to me as a viewer because I don’t watch tv to wallow in the mess that is today’s world, rather I watch shows or movies to have some time not to think about it.

I also think shows that have the best fan retention are have a big focus on relationships and characters you care about. I think both Rory and Lorelei on GG are insufferable, especially Rory, but they are "quirky" people love their mother-daughter bond and get invested in their love interests. Friends is abiut friends who can be snarky but care about each other (until later seasons when half of them just because dicks), Supernatural was never huge, but it keeps getting new fans even now and has incredible staying power because it mostly doesn’t get that political, and of course because it focuses on these brothers who love each other so damn much that they’ll do anything for each other. These are the things that make people get attached to a show, stay with a show, and rewatch a show. They want to turn in to watch people they can relate to, want to be like, or have something they value in life.

In TB almost every character is a psycho with little to no redeeming qualities. Yes, there are some nice relationships, but most of the characters are (after Season 3) massive hypocrites, assholes, racists, murderers, just plain dicks, or pathetic. Yes, there are amusing moments and shocking moments, but once you've seen them, you’ve seen them. I have no desire to sit down and watch the show on repeat because the characters aren’t truly likable, and their relationships can thus only interest me so much. When you rely heavily on shock value, you automatically lose some people after because once they’ve seen it, they don’t need to see it again.

Kripke needs to get his head out of his ass and remember what worked about shows like supernatural and stop relying on simply being as violent and disgusting as possible if he wants people to rewatch his shows.

I suppose if the story is good enough, watching a show filled with unlikeable characters is okay, but you're right, it's the relationships that really draw people in and make them care about what happens next.

As for Kripke, he got incredibly lucky with Jared and Jensen and the work they did to create Sam and Dean's dynamic because I don't think he originally planned on the brother's relationship being at the core of the series. That came later as he and the other writers/producers saw what a goldmine they hit with J2.

Max is an idiot, disrespectful and prone to losing his temper whenever things don’t go his way. He pretends to be a genuine and simple person, but you quickly realize that’s not the case. I saw this ask when you sent it, Anon, and I have been since thinking on how to answer in a way that won’t bore you to death. Because I could write enough to fill a thesis.

Sarutobi is either as fascist and hypocrite as his predecessor, but hiding his hate for the Uchiha behind that mask of an adorable and kind grandpa, or he is the most useless and incompetent Hokage to ever exist in Konoha. I am quite inclined towards the first option.

Sarutobi routinely consulted Danzo and the two council decrepits and completely gave in to their opinions. He heard their racist remarks about the Uchiha and just accepted them without question. He heard Danzo advocating for a genocide, and all he got was a childish scolding. He of course enabled Danzo and let him do as he pleased, right up to the very night of the massacre. And then played angry and surprised, but still let him go with a short detention as a punishment for annihilating a clan. Remember all those anbu designated to spy on my clan and obviously released from that duty after the massacre? Well, clearly Sarutobi couldn’t even assign one of them to have an eye on Danzo, because he was totally free to desecrate the corpses of my loved ones, tear off their eyes and go to Orochimaru to get that disgusting arm surgically attached.

So, one of your subordinates conspired against a clan on your back, ordered almost all its members to be assassinated without your permission or knowledge, and then he was free to go and do business with an traitor that was allegedly plotting against you and the government of Konoha. Sarutobi is not a genius but he couldn’t be so stupid. The only explanation is that, maybe he didn’t know exactly what Dazo was doing, but he certainly didn’t care in the slightest.

He got the Hokage position in a moment where the Uchiha were already segregated from the village, forced into a specific career and excluded from any position of influence or power. This was as a result of Tobirama’s policies, however, Sarutobi did nothing to revert that. You don’t do this based on ignorance, you only do this if you agree with your predecessor. He obviously inherited the hateful and racist ideals from his master. And, in fact, he goes all “will of fire” the first chance he gets.

He heard Danzo’s worries about the unrest of the Uchiha, he heard his suggestion to kill “even the innocent children” and did nothing about that. Nothing to stop Danzo, nothing to approach the Uchiha or alleviate their oppression. He had so many chances it is incredible he did absolutely nothing. “They are my comrades in arms, I want to use dialogue to solve this”, he said, probably just trying to look reasonable in front of Itachi, to keep the good-guy façade so Itachi would think “see, it is my clan’s fault, the Hokage seems so open and fair”. But he did shit. What other thing had him busy that day that was more important than moving his ass and go immediately talk to the Uchiha to prevent a tragedy? Weren't they so scared of war? What the hell were they doing to prevent it except violating every possible civil right of the Uchiha?

You know, even if we play stupid and assume that it is true, that he was just weak and incapable, that he really knew nothing about Danzo’s intrigues, what would be your logical course of action after you learn about it? Because I would not have allowed Danzo to see the light again. I would not have sent Itachi to join Akatsuki or put a bounty in his head. I would not have allowed a child to grow in despair, manipulated by lies and unfairly hating his only living relative. I would have exposed the truth, I would have held Danzo responsible. I don’t know, I would have behaved as a fair leader for once, as if the people I am in charge of are human beings with rights and feelings.

And these are only my thoughts about his involvement in my clan’s genocide. I won’t even start talking about his mighty speech in the chunin exams, telling children to go kill each other for the enjoyment of powerful feudal lords because, apparently, they would start a war if they are denied of that pleasure. Or about the orphans left abandoned. Or about how he allowed the barbaric practices in the Hyuga clan and how he consented Hizashi Hyuga sacrificing his life to protect his enslaver brother.

While we're not your biggest fans by any means and do feel bad for what happened with kipandkandi it really feels like they dug their own grave there.

If they had trauma from slander perhaps they shouldn't have went on a hate campaign against your blog for ages to the point of spamming their positivity blog with it for a week. It feels hypocritical at best and outright two faced at worst.

We hope they recover well, but if they can't handle what they themselves serve they probably shouldn't be interacting with a space as inherently toxic and agressive as syscourse, especially when they did worse.

I really wouldn't be cavalier with phrasing of "dug their own grave" right now.

They accuse me of having a "vendetta" against their alters. I've literally only talked about them a few times over the past few days due to everything happening. Meanwhile, my name has been continuously mentioned on their syscourse blog since the start of the year.

They accuse me of talking about them behind their back. I was blocked during the entire period they attacked me since around, I think, April to July 17th when they unblocked me to try to get me to read their document. They tried again on July 18th. And I blocked them right after.

They accuse me of block-evading, but their whole defense of why they @'d Eeveecraft is because they claim that they thought tagging them would still send the message to the account that blocked them.

This also means, by extension, that when they @'d me in May with a post calling me bigoted and transphobic, they intended for that post to be sent to my notifications despite having me blocked at the time.

They also said that they plan on remaking their post on their main because Eeveecraft doesn't have them blocked there... which... is still block evading. If somebody blocks you on one account, don't try to contact them on another.

They consider me mentioning them a few times without tagging them block evasion. Which... I genuinely don't think is true. Blocks aren't gag orders. As long as you aren't encouraging harassment or trying to contact a user, I don't think there's a rule against talking about people. But if it was block evasion, then they've clearly done much worse between both their syscourse blog and the positivity blog. (And for that matter, I think most of their friend group has made posts about me by name while having me blocked.)

And as I said in the other post, @'ing somebody you have blocked is bad because it links potential harassers directly to the blog of the other person. Don't @ them.

And immediately after reading my post explaining that @'ing doesn't send notifications to the blocked users and that all it does is make it easier for harassers to get to them, they @ my blog and link to two of my posts "for transparency". Which since they read and comprehended my previous post, I can only possibly interpret the @'ing as them trying to get me harassed.

There's no other explanation, is there?

It's the only possible reason to do that after it's explicitly explained that there's no other advantage to @'ing blocked accounts.

After calling me an asshole, a proud racist, a transphobe, a zoophilia supporter, a bigot, telling me to get banned, and so much else on their blogs... I said "reporting someone seems like something they would do since they told me to get banned, but there are a lot of other suspects who are just as likely who could have done it too so IDK 🤷‍♀️" and I said them saying people are being incredibly racist is an "attack."

These are the things they refer to as "slander."

I legitimately believe them when they say I hurt them. Because their continuous, almost-obsessive attacks felt very personal for some reason. But like you, I feel that if getting a tiny fraction of what they dished out back caused them this much distress, they really should have stepped away a long time ago for their own health.

I sincerely hope that they can find healthier coping mechanisms. And, for the love of the gods, stop tagging people who have them blocked!

Also, this should go without saying, but please don't send hate to them. Don't harass them. Don't engage with them. I'm angry at the repeated smears and am expressing that, but the last thing I'd want is for anymore harm to come to them.
