Me while watching Last Twilight Ep. 9:
Will we see the back story at last? Also, we have yet to see a P'Aof cameo 😂 Is this finally the episode that he will appear?
1. Ah, so Night is still in contact with their Dad? <after 5 seconds> So, Night caused the accident? C'mon give us a flashback already 😭😭😭
2. They WERE close prior to the accident 😭 But Night was not the one driving. Also, the sensible thing to do was to pullover and stop the car the moment Night started heaving. Day trying to get a barf bag whilst driving is stupid. I get Day is looking for someone to blame for his condition, but the way he was driving that night...it was technically he's own fault he got blind. 😐 Day's resentment of Night is SO UNDESERVED 😭😭😭
3. How much you want to bet that Dad leaving Mum for another woman is an incomplete picture of what happened? Especially if Night is still in contact with his father. At this point, I don't trust P'Aof giving us a straightforward cause and effect lol.
Sidenote: I had drunk Dutchmill a few years ago and it's not as tasty as Mhok and Day would like you to believed 😅
4. Oh, Night. He is trying to change for the better but all Day sees is Night 'pretending' to usurp his place as the "good" son. I don't like this side of Day. 😑
5. It looks like Mhok gained a new employment 😂 Maybe Mum will soften up if she learns Mhok is a great cook too.
6. Oooh. I like that - visiting the places that you have only read in a book. I wish I have the budget and the free time to do just that 😭😭😭
7. I don't like this hostel proprietor. Why so effing hostile from the get-go? She needed to hear that Day is going blind for her to start acting decent? The fvck.
8. Aahhh, wait. They are talking about "firsts". Is this going where I think this is going??? 😱😱😱😱 <after five seconds> Yup 😶🌫️😶🌫️😶🌫️😶🌫️
9. Mhok, it is so early in the morning. Why are you like this? 😅😅😅 Hiking is difficult enough without disabilities. Can't imagine how hard it is for Day to climb that mountain. Also, Mhok clearing Day's path of pebbles is just 😍
10. I think Mhok is going to be in trouble with Day's mum regardless of the outcome of this trip.
11. So, the book has a bittersweet ending? Now, I don't like the odds. We are getting so many effing hints that this series will have a bittersweet ending too 😭😭😭 Still, this is P'Aof - he has yet to deliver a story that has not ended happily 😭😭😭
12. Oh, no. Day cannot see anything anymore 😭😭😭 Mhok's hearbreak is just palpable.
I love the new OST. However, I don't like the lyrics because it tells of a love that has PASSED AND ONLY LINGERS IN THE SINGER'S MEMORY. Wtf does this all mean??

> BORZOI: READ HOMESTUCK LIKE ITS 2011 (PART 5)
We pick back up after [S] END OF ACT 6 INTERMISSION 1 (page 4390) with a fucking spectacular music number (Infinity mechanism - Thomas ferkol). I'm such a big fan of the beat that comes in when we get to see Jane looking out her window, you have no idea. Also I didn't cover the intermission because i didn't say much. I appreciate and love the beta kids and trolls but I just have more gears turning where the alpha kids are involved because they're not so clear cut and dry emotional wise as the betas. I'm pretty sure greater analysers than me have said all there needs to be said for the beta kids. All I have to add is this piece of dialog from 4359 that I liked:
KARKAT: ALRIGHT IF YOU'RE REALLY GOING TO GO KARKAT: JUST KARKAT: BE CAREFUL KARKAT: NO MORE POINTLESS BLOODSHED, OK? THAT'S AN ORDER! KARKAT: WAIT FUCK KARKAT: I'M NOT LEADER ANYMORE KARKAT: ROSE CAN YOU ORDER HER TO DO THAT? KARKAT: SAY WHAT I JUST SAID, REALLY ANGRILY KARKAT: ASSUMING YOU CAN EVEN BE ANGRY. ROSE: ...
I really love how clingy Karkat but also accepting of his friends decisions goes. It's one of his great points as a knight of blood, but it also leads to some pretty funny turnabouts as he contradicts himself and fights himself on it.
4394 GIRL LOOK OUT
4397 (call back to page 4107) Oh wait I've seen this before. That's neat.
4400: Get this shit outta the way. You're a busy bureaucrat. The clock is ticking, and time is dead kids.
Dead kids you say?
4405 Well dead kids it is. These scenes.. when i read these scenes.. with such shitty sketch lines.. in my mind I hear Buy Somethin Will Ya? from the Earthbound OST. Or Hi Hi Hi (Theme of Saturn Valley).
You should be pleased to know those nuts were super deadly! Though to be fair he doesn't know if he died from the poison, or just choked on a bunch of barely chewed peanut bits. You know what else is super deadly, you say? Knives. Sharp deadly knives you stick in people's soft torsos to make them bleed until they die.
He doesn't have anything to say to that.
Dude i love this guy like deadass him and his whimsical hats and umbrellas and whatnot. I think he's my fav besides DD.
4408
Lifey thing..
4413 IVE SEEN THIS BEFORE. HOLY SHIT!!(3220)
4419 I really like parallels in homestuck. They make the world go round, you could say, because you read things and dont feel as lost because in a way it's strikingly familiar! Which is what happens here.
4422 Oh hunny.. nobody understands how whimsical. Jane crocker is to me. Look at her. ooo. That's a face. :o. õoô She is the whimsy.
Nobody takes into account how many batshit things Jane sees and she hits them all with the ,':| ....
You guess you should feel grateful toward him for saving your life, but you know he's just as likely to rescue you from an explosion as he is to randomly teleport you across town, forcing you to call your dad and ask for a ride home, while you spend all day standing in some random field in the pouring rain while you wait hours for your dad to come and pick you up after he gets lost because he plugged the wrong place into google maps.
I really like the small bits of background we get about Jane too. Like this! Its such a nice scene. But it seems.. that uh oh! Guardian jumpscare.
He tells you to get inside this instant.
Goddamn. Now where have i seen this before.. 4430 referencing 212.
Except in this case, it's no case of magical happenstance gone awry with a server player losing internet, but a dad being.. a *tad* more serious than given with how you're so totally grounded. No wonder Jane is so stubborn!
As long as you just got done paying the piper, you might as well get busy eating all this goddamn crow. Oh so much of the stuff has gathered on your plate.
Eating the crow: to admit that one was wrong or accept that one has been defeated.
paying the piper: bear the consequences of an action or activity that one has enjoyed.
These sayings are sooo cool too. Like I've never heard anyone use them but they're really neat!

okay dumping some final thoughts. calamidade was a REALLY GOOD season.
there were so many episodes that I liked so so much but special shoutout to 6 and 8. those ones were my favourites. and 9 was also really good
I loved the new characters (or new-ish in Rubens's case)! Of course characters are always a huge part of what makes a season what it is, and I really liked the cast in this one. good team!!
I really really liked what little of Joui and Arthur we got. made me miss Kaiser of course but I loved what they had going on. those arguments in episode 8 live in my brain. spinning them so fast in my mind
also generally spinning Arthur in my mind god he's such a character I adored him this season. the way we saw how the events of Desconjuração, but also the entire year's timeskip that followed, changed him, was really good. I loved how he grew into the leadership role after how unsure he was at the start. and I'm thinking about him + his relationship with loss + the way he reacts to it by the end of Calamidade so so much...
somewhat related to Arthur & Joui: the irl aspect added so so much to this season. especially how physical Luba and Guaxi were with each other really added a lot to those scenes. the documents being printed out irl for the players to look at was really good - especially the reveal with the UV torchlight showing hidden messages!! very very cool thing. and the other items too! the book! the box! the
speaking of the book: that was just a really cool part of the final battle I loved how effevtively Bagi used it. very fun mechanic
I like how much influence the previous seasons had on this one (OSNF!!! so much OSNF) and how dead, or at least not-on-screen, characters were still so very relevant. shoutout to Kaiser and Johnny...
I didn't like the villain POV episodes as much just because I never really got into any of the characters, but I did like them for what they were, in the sense that we got to see a little of what the other side had going on. Luis's acting as Damir in episode 7 was fun though
Ordo Calamitas was so fucking cool. I LOVE the concept and the execution was really well done too. the players having fun with the new characters was very fun to watch too - I maintain I would've liked to see more of Bagi playing Gaius but what can you do; and especially Rakin as Remus and Luba as Celestine were very fun. and the games themselves were so cool it's such a good idea for something to have your players do in a TTRPG I like it so much
I LOVED CARINA!!! especially when Bagi was acting out her furious screaming that was always fun. she's good at it <3 but the way she took to heart what Liz told her during her initial 50% paranormal exposure transcending ritual, and the fact that she internalised that so much to the point of applying it to Damir, of all people, was just really really good. what a great way to use how meta that mechanic is. I just love what Bagi did with her she's such a good character
speaking of Bagi: I loved how much she was always paying attention to the in-universe mechanics with the entities!! I'm very glad she applied her knowledge of that in-rp as much as she did. very rewarding when you as a viewer were also paying attention to that
I did also really enjoy the way Rubens and Balu's relationship developed. they're a fun dynamic and I really like how it ended up!
of course shoutout to the OST. I love the Ordem OST a lot and this season was no exception to that. O Anfitrião remains SUCH a cool fucking track
speaking of O Anfitrião: great villain!!! loved him. I loved seeing more of him and generally Energy after the taste we got in Desconjuração ep 7. I love his music, I LOVED the battle and how creative it was mechanically, loved the reveal at the end of episode 6... just a really good arc I liked it a LOT
I'm still not very interested in Dante as a character sorry but his powers this season were pretty cool. shoutout to the marionette what the fuck was that
speaking of weird death things: episode 10 was a fun way to integrate more of Death into the season and the sphinx monster was very cool. the battle was less interesting than some others this season but I did like the riddles mechanic
and on the topic of battles the Minotaur one in episode 7 was also a very cool idea. doesn't help with me not caring for the characters but putting them in the labyrinth was a nice move
I think the final battle was a little weaker than Desconjuração's admittedly. maybe I'm just biased because I've rewatched both "CINERÁRIA" and Gal's introduction in OPD 20 so many times, but despite all that it was this one did not feel quite as climactic to me. and Joui's death did not have the same impact on me that Kaiser's did. by no means was it a bad final battle but I do think Desconjuração wins out between the two
...and I think that's all my thoughts for now but yeah. tldr calamidade was really really good. <3

6, 7 & 10 for the pmd ask thingy?
uhhh this one got long so it's under the cut. i have many thoughts and opinions on the pokemon mystery dungeon franchise
6. which game has the best soundtrack?
that's a tough question... i feel like all the games have extremely well done and unique soundtracks. they're just all really good and made by very talented people. that said, my personal favorites definitely come from the 3d games. i think psmd's soundtrack is my favorite, mostly bc i have such a personal connection to it. but i am also a huge fan of gates' ost too, especially with its use of leitmotifs. the theme of hope and magnagate arrangements make me go crazy every time i hear them
7. which game has the best postgame?
this is a hard question for different reasons... bc really pmd2 has the most substantial postgame out of the whole series. the rest of the series' postgames are just "do some special missions and get legendaries" and/or "bring back the hero/partner". ive only played the pmd2 postgame in its entirety once (which... is very surprising considering it's by far my most replayed game), and i found that it explores the relationship between the hero and partner in a really interesting way!
but honestly i think that the postgame i'm most passionate about is psmd's. i mean... if you need proof, just look at the huge psmd hero analysis i made and the (sadly unfinished) psmd epilogue rewrite i was working on early last year. i care about psmd's epilogue not really because i thought it was good, but more because i think it could have been good. like... it's fine as is i guess, but i was very disappointed about two things: how mew's character is handled, and how nuzleaf's redemption arc (or, let's be real, lack thereof) is handled.
mew, as a character, is only really there to service the hero and partner. they're used as a constant reminder of partner in order to explore hero's grief. by itself, this isn't a bad writing choice, but mew as a character is not really developed beyond this point. i think it would be interesting to see how mew is different from partner, and that hero won't be able to find partner through them (other than the very literal way). we never really get mew's feelings on being compared to partner either, which could have created a very complex relationship between them and hero! imagine you're just a little kid, and an older kid is your only friend and caretaker, but you constantly remind them of the dead friend they were looking for when they found you. are you really wanted, then? do they actually care about you, or do they just care about what you remind them of?
i feel like i've already talked about how nuzleaf was handled here at length, but it's just disappointing how his redemption is just "he played the villain again but it helped partner come back so he's all redeemed now". plus the fact that "he wasn't actually evil, he was just possessed by the actual bad guy!". it's just... i don't know. he was a very important character to me when i first played psmd on release, because it was the first time i really experienced a character resembling an abusive parent that wasn't like. comically evil. not to get too personal, but it did help me make some realizations in my own life. so i wish nuzleaf's redemption involved more effort on his end to better himself, instead of "oh he's acting evil again but it's justified this time".
10. what starters would you add?
OH MAN HAVE I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS... especially back in 2022 when me and a few friends were playing around with an original pmd game idea. i spent entire days making so many portrait sprites of potential hero/partner characters and i had to like... physically make an effort to take breaks. fun times!
anyway, aside from the gens 7-9 starters and the obvious fan favorites (alolan vulpix, both zorua forms, rockruff, growlithe, both sneasels, etc.), here were the new starter ideas we were throwing around for that pmd game idea: ralts, glameow, buneary, pawniard, misdreavus, kubfu, trapinch, deerling, joltik, pikipek, mareep, deino, tinkatink, helioptile, bagon, dwebble, minccino, murkrow, fidough, swablu, and venonat.
personally id love to see more ghost, flying, and bug type starters. and like less popular more quirky starters too! like of course your pmd team can be whatever you like, but i sometimes get kinda bored only seeing teams that are just a combination of like... eevee, riolu, vulpix, shinx and fennekin over and over and over again. it's fun to branch out and try new pokemon from time to time! you never know what new favorites you'll get! also just imagine playing as dwebble. have you seen how adorable she is? imagine how amazing that would be

Oh talk about JM karma lmao
1. Dragged him for playing pool with Taemin, a smoker in 2016. Tae caught smoking and with cigarette box multiple times since 2019 and antis on his ass for that.
2. Spread JM is pushing himself onto Jk and Jkk doesn't have any bond. JK confirming they were awkward and didn't had a chill relationship. Said Jkk is one sided and JM is the one using FS to be popular. 2023, Tae using tkk agenda like his life and career depends on it.
3. Spread JM is a womanizer and even has a kid lmao, created a dating rumor for him in 2022 which was ignored by even JM stans. 2023 Tae embroiled in dating rumors that too with a woman they hate the most, pics and videos out, discussed in national news channels. Peace destroyed of all stans and their mommas. Don't be surprised if pregnancy announcement is next lmao.
4. Dragged him for having no work after hiatus announcement in 2022. New JM music every 2 month, signed with 2 lux brands in world, sang in Hollywood ost, continuing to make and break records in 2023. Tae no new music since hiatus, did a dishwashing show, signed with 2 fuckass brands that even his own stans got upset for.
5. Called his fans the most toxic, blamed JM for having lot of solo stans, spread his fans are good for nothing antis. 2023, Tae calling his stans boring and corny. Not spending a proper 5 minutes to interact with them that not missing his live became a luxury thing for them.
6. Wished JM will commit suicide when he had a low point in 2022, said he'll alienate himself from all activities. 2023, JM so happy and cheerful and confirmed he's perfectly alright now. While tkkrs haven't slept for days and is verge on mental breakdown. While their fav is acting like a coward and not defending the woman he supposedly love.
7. Dragged JM for his musical skills, saying he can't sing nor produce good music. Saying his album will most flopped among members who are musicians. 2023, FACE reigning charts. JM credited for writing all songs. Got an hot100 historic achievement that God knows when will repeat again. Lmao
I can go on lol
But whatever Tae stans spread about JM and is projecting onto him is literally coming back to them that they have to sacrifice their whole life to defend him LMFAO 🤣
JM karma is so fucking strong, that's what he gets for being an angel
You could have worded this better. Without the V bashing because I whole heartedly agree. These fucktards take every chance to shit on Jimin but as soon as Jimin solos start dishing it back they can't handle it?
I don't like Jimin solos. I don't like any solos at all. But it sure is fun to watch them make the v solos and tkkrs (who are one in the same) sweat. Honestly I am loving it. Sign me up for more.

Thanks for the tag @illarian-rambling!
Wip Questionnaire (Grayguard Edition!)
Rules: answer as few or as many as you'd like!
1. What was the first part of your wip that you created?
The earliest concept in Grayguard is probably the Hellenistic kingdom of Cloria and its Oracle Queen, also the elemental mineral Oriche. Those two have been recycled through at least three scrapped stories before I put it in Grayguard.
2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?
The story is set into four acts, sooo
Act 1: Hollow Knight from the Hollow Knight OST
Act 2: Blue Desire (from Blazblue Chronophantasma)
Act 3: Iconoclast by KOTOKO
Act 4: Kuroi Uta from Drakengard 3
3. Who are your favourite characters you've made? Why?
Not to be too spoilery (since Grayguard will be on AO3 at some point) But other than Emil and Lisa, a certain shapeshifter that appears in act 2 and an antagonist of Act 3, one is an absolute blast to write, the other is the best villain I’ve written in my opinion.
4. What other pieces of media do you think would share a fan base for your story?
Probably Aurora fans and Zelda: BOTW/TOTK fans.
5. What has been your biggest struggle with your wip?
Honestly I’ve been mashing some plotlines together to make it run smoother because I CANNOT cram that many plot lines into a single act.
6. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!
Chaos creatures aplenty, including Dragons, Watchers (eldritch Gorgons), Chimera (a result of creatures fusing their Chaos energy to melt into one being) also plenty of plain animals except really big with a few weird details (Deers with crystal horns, Bears with rock spikes all over their body, etc) there’s also giant sea serpents that are sort of like traditional Chinese dragons.
7. How do your characters get around? (ex: trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.)
Walking, so much fucking walking. If they have a horse that doesn’t die from an ambush (which happens all the time) It sort of helps the journey. Though they get on a giant robot homunculus with a whole city on it at one point so that speeds the journey up for a few weeks.
8. What part of your wip are you working on rn?
Currently editing the hell out of Act 1, I have a few chapters of Act 2 but it’s not free from my wrath either.
9. What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your wip do you think will draw people in?
In terms of tropes, fallen heroes, found family, chosen one (who’s avoiding it at every turn) fallen civilizations, and magic robots.
Other than that, I hope it’s the characters that draw people in. It’s very character driven even if the worldbuilding and magic is thoroughly detailed. They’re fun as hell to write about and I love mixing and matching their dynamics to see who loves or hates each other.
10. What are your hopes for your wip?
that people like it lol, that’s about it.
I’ll tag @deanwax and whoever else wants to join!

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Review: Very Fun!
(Warning, this review contains spoilers for the movie)
My introverted ass does not leave the house most of the time. However, there are times where I do like to hang out with my friends. Today was one such day. On the midst of cold rainy weather, I mustered up the courage to leave my house and go to the movie theater to see The Super Mario Bros movie. I was watching it with my friend SpaceBrosMiles. As I was waiting for him, I coincidentally saw my friend from high school and college whom I haven’t seen in 6-7 years! I was surprised I still recognized him. He was also watching the film with his friends, one of them being my brother’s friend. It was nice talking to him. Anyways, once Miles and I finally met up and went inside the theater, the movie started playing after multitudes of trailers and a quick bathroom break from me.
How was the movie? I really liked it! It went by fast, but it left a lasting impression on me. The movie is an original story of how the Mario brothers became known to the Mushroom Kingdom. It all started with them in Brooklyn trying to make it big as plumbers, but they struggle to find jobs. They put out a rather tacky commercial and they did manage to get one job after it aired, which turned into a bust when the owners’ dog Francis tried to attack the brothers because Luigi broke its bone. However, the fight between them and the dog eventually lead to an unknown flooding in Brooklyn. While the brothers try to be heroes, they fail to stop the flood and accidentally find the iconic green warp pipe that causes the brothers to be transported to another world but they get separated with Luigi going to Bowser’s Castle and Mario to the Mushroom Kingdom. The rest of the movie is just Mario trying to find a way to rescue his brother with the help of Toad and Peach.
The overall movie was enjoyable. I really liked the various Mario game references. I think a few I can name are Mario Maker, Mario Kart, Luigi’s Mansion, Mario 64, Mario Galaxy and Jumpman. I named a lot. Wow. Does this mean I’m a hardcore gamer? Anyways, there isn’t much I can say about the overall movie because it’s super fun. The humor is on point. The dialogue is very family-friendly. Various OSTs were remixes of classic Mario songs that I recognize. However, the best song was the remix of the DK Rap. THE DK RAP IS IN THE MOVIE! DK! DONKEY KONG! I’m sorry, the DK rap was so fun to listen to when I was a kid. I’m glad they kept the iconic song (though, they did not credit the creator Grant Kirkhope).
The flow of the movie was fast-paced but it was consistent. I think it flew by so quickly for a one hour and forty-five minute movie. One moment they are in the Mushroom Kingdom, and they are in the Jungle Kingdom five minutes later. It’s really hard to look away because you will be confused if you do so.
The voice acting was really good! I think they all suited the characters! The best performance was Jack Black as Bowser. I mean, it’s Jack Black! What more can I say? I was confused when he started playing the piano, but Jack Black’s song was amazing to listen to. An honorable mention goes to Lumalee. He was very creepy with his nihilistic speeches about death and that made him stand out; he’s an absolute menance.I think the weakest performance was a tie between Cranky Kong and Mario, but it doesn’t mean they were bad. They were far from bad, in fact. It’s just that everyone else were too good that they got overshadowed.
My only gripe is the lack of Luigi screen time during the middle of the movie. The movie is called The Super Mario Bros. It’s not the Super Mario movie. It’s the Mario brothers that are the stars, not Mario on his lonesome. It would’ve been great to see Luigi trying to struggle out of his cage or have some screen time worrying about his current situation. All we see of Luigi is that he gets captured, thrown into a cage and then gets released about three-fourths way into the movie, just before the climax. The final portion where the Mario bros take on Bowser was great and made me wonder where Luigi managed to get that courage to protect Mario from the fire.
Overall, this is a very good movie if you just want to have fun watching. It’s a perfect blend of tropes and aspects any Mario fan or any gamer would know and love. I know that not everyone will agree with me, but I believe this is like a love letter to the fans that have bee there for so long. I believe it’s an 8.5/10 movie. The .5 was the fact I saw a friend in the theaters. Will I recommend this movie? Definitely.

Rating cdramas I watched as a newbie pt. 3
!! Spoiler Warning!! You can find part 1 and part 2 here!
The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty 8/10
Acting: 9/10 World-building: 8/10 Production: 8/10 Storytelling: 8/10 Re-watch Value: 7/10 Pacing: 8/10 Bonus: I loved the intro and OST so much, I added it to my playlist.
I started to watch this drama a while back, but gave up after the second episode, because I couldn't follow the plot. I'm glad I came back after having watched more cdramas. Those gave me more background knowledge to follow to complex political structures and plots. After finally understanding the backdrop of the story, I was surprised to find out, that this show was vaguely adapted from a danmei novel.
While the story-line was interesting, it were the characters that really got me hooked, especially Wang Zhi. His character and story had so much more potential and I would love to watch a whole show with him as a main character. It kind of blew my mind that he was that young - and while his actions made you forget about it at times, the show manage to remind you of his youth in really great scenes.
Overall, the show suffered from the same problems many shows do: The story-line becomes to convoluted, the stakes don't fit the established tone of the show and some plot-holes are hard to overlook. For example, there should have been a better way to set up the empress as a warrior, because that came out of nowhere (twice). While the action scenes were great at first, when trying to raise the stakes during the last few episodes, it became over the top and felt out of place. In addition, some serious topics they tried to address (e.g. PTSD, domestic violence, human trafficking) didn't go anywhere and lacked consequences.
In spite of these problems, I loved the show and their main characters a lot. They did have great chemistry and I'm curious how a BL adaptation of this show would have looked like.
---
Destined 7/10
Acting: 8/10 World-building: 7/10 Production: 8/10 Storytelling: 4/10 Re-watch Value: 6/10 Pacing: 5/10 Bonus: For Gu Jiusi charming mumbling and Liu Xueyi as the villain
The first episodes of this show were so great - I was having so much fun and I loved how the tone of the show switched by episode 9. In hindsight, I should have seen this as a sign, that the script would become messy: Stringing together too many impactful scenes, without letting the the story enfold. The problem with this is, that they lose their emotional impact and start to feel over the top and unrealistic. Somehow the ML is a playboy that does not care for women, but is also secretly one of the best martial artist out there even through we never see him practice during the episodes that follow his every day life in detail? It was just a bit too much lazy writing, trying to establish the path of the main characters. The idea was great, but the execution was a bit lacking. It's such a shame.
I think the riches to racks to riches story they wanted to tell was to convoluted even for 40 episodes. The ending was especially disappointing for me - but not because of how the main characters' story ends, but rather because of how they solved the succession problem. After making the question, what makes a suitable ruler, a focus point of the show, they make the next (next) crown prince some never before mentioned character off screen? It felt so unsatisfied! I feel like the show lacked a clear meta plot, a massage beyond the love story.
---
Light Chaser Rescue 5/10
Acting: 7/10 World-building: 7/10 Production: 4/10 Storytelling: 5/10 Re-watch Value: 3/10 Pacing: 6/10 Bonus: For not centering the plot on the love story alone.
I'm currently on a mission to watch Luo Yunxi (allegedly) mediocre filmography and Light Chaster Rescue was next on the list. It turned out to be a decent show! My biggest grievances is, that the rescue scenes lacked suspense and I think that's a budget and production issue. Some of the characters were quite flat and annoying and I'm not sure how much of it was insufficient acting skills or a bad script (I lean towards the latter).
In addition - and it really pains me to say this Luo Yunxi's character was not written well and I'm not sure he was the best fit for the role. In the beginning Luo Ben was supposed to be self-centered and annoying. Still, the dialog was just not well written and no amount of excellent acting could save come of the lines. The whole over-protectiveness over his mute little sister was also not done well and made me dislike Luo Ben. Now, this might be quite controversial, but if they cast an actor, that does not fit the typical build of an rescue worker, it would have been better to actually make this part of the story. Ignoring it most of the time, made Luo Ben unconvincing. I think they tried to set it up in some ways (e.g. pointing out his tactical skills, driving ability and how the other members don't see him as suitable at first), but the drama failed to deliver it. In my opinion, it would have given the show a bit more depth and realism.
On that note... I would like to know if Luo Yuan actually signed CSL or if it was just some gibberish. Adequate representation of dis/abled people in media matters, so I really hope they got it right. I also had mixed feeling that she was only mute and not hard of hearing. I know it's possible, even if uncommon. It's obvious why they made that decision, but it felt (again) unconvincing.
Overall, I still enjoyed the show and the pacing was quite nice. I liked the long build up to the different characters joining the Light Chaser Rescue and how they did the big revelation later on!
---
Broker 6/10
Acting: 7/10 World-building: 6/10 Production: 6/10 Storytelling: 6/10 Re-watch Value: 4/10 Pacing: 6/10 Bonus: A research focused plot!
This one came as a surprise to me. After Light Chaser Rescue I expected another okay-ish drama, I only planed to watch for the lead, but I ended up really enjoying it. The initial premise of cooperate espionage is interesting and I wish they would have focused on that in the later part, instead of it become a family conflict with high stakes. The backstories of the characters were also a bit too wattpad. However, I got rather invested into the characters and story. The acting was good as well, with the exception of the white actors they hired, who were just horrible - barely being able to say their lines. It gave it some unintended comedy. As someone who has worked in research for the last couple of years, this show was really fascinating to watch (even through it's not realistic), but I liked to see a story-line like this in a drama! The patriotism was a bit hard to get used to, but I can't deny the anti-Chinese racism within the scientific community.
---
Thank you for reading my rumbling on the internet! I think next I will do a post about why I dropped certain shows and what I learned about myself as a cdrama audience by doing so!

tagged by @recentadultburnout. What are my fave top 9 shows in no particular order. I finally have time to do this since I'm finally not homeless.
1. Gintama!!!
Whenever I'm feeling down I just watch this show. It does it's comedy really well. My favorite arcs are the lottery win arc and the reunion/kuroko no basuke parody mini-arc.
2. Doraemon
. . . Don't judge me! It's the first comic book collection I owned since it's relatively cheap. I still remember sobbing to the volume 6 ending when I was in 4rth grade. I thought it was the angstiest shit. Also my introduction to Japanese folktales.
3. Bad Buddy
Recent addition. Just something about the family dynamics that makes me writhe in an unpleasant personal way. 11/10 would torture myself thinking of Pran's family dynamics.
4 and 5. Julie and the Phantoms/My School President
This list makes makes me look 12 doesn't it? Ah who cares! I love a good musical. Especially a classic highschool teen as a protaganist. Musically, I like My School President's OST better but I really really love Julie. (Also both of these won't get a season 2).
6. Bocchi the Rock
A recent addition! . . . And another high school musical. I love fluff, friendships, interpersonal, and internal conflicts. My love for musicals like fulfills my need for real life friends who are attentive to your needs and wants and is there when you need them.
7. Oh No! Here Comes Trouble!
Anyone remember the time when Taiwanese dramas were all the rage back in early to late 2000's in Asia? Taiwan came in clutch and showed us how great they are at acting, writing, and nuance. Sobbed myself to the point of dehydration during the John Doe arc. I really like dramas with a slice of life-ish feel to it.
8. Avatar: The Last Airbender
I spend too much of my idle time arguing the pros and cons of different elements as if I can actually become a bender. So far I settled on earth as my element. It's just so fun. I hope there's an atla interest revival every 5 years.
9. Good Omens
One of my forever fandoms. I have a copy of the book that looks like shit but that's only because it is so loved. Everytime I crack it open, intending to only read the first few pages I end up nearly halfway to rereading it. And the tv live adaptation was so good. It's like Aziraphale and Crowley walked off the fandom's collective imagination and into the screen. I hope we get season 3 and I hope it's smooth sailing. I always wanted to write something for this fandom but watching the television made me realize British English is a whole 'nother beast and I'd rather not make a fool of myself.

tag someone you want to get to know better
tagged by @woobifiedvillain a few days ago and finally remembered to do it!!
Favorite color: Yellow, but not an overwhelming yellow, like that soft warm yellow? I love it. People tend to not expect this answer, I think I give off more of a blue or grey vibe. Honestly a pretty grey/silver is probably my second favorite color, but a buttery yellow is just so good for the soul.
Last song: You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi. Danced to it in the kitchen, got consumed by the guitar riffs, nearly knocked a chair over. Before this morning it would've been the Genshin OST... I've been listening to it a lot while I write or do chores recently.
Last movie: An exceedingly mediocre romcom on Netflix that I watched with my sick mom to be nice. Genuinely couldn't tell you the title or more than like, two or three plot points. Last movie that I watched bc I wanted to was the Barbie movie, which was genuinely better than I expected. Enjoyable but would still give it, like, a mixed review. I'm not getting into two months' ago Barbie Movie Discourse on this post
Currently watching: I'M STILL TRYING TO FINISH THE UNTAMED!!!! woobifiedvillain i'm speaking directly to you and quoting you: i too am "chronically incapable of paying attention to visual media, even the good shit" and when i try to explain this to people irl they act like i am insane!!! I haven't watched Good Omens season 2 yet even tho I am reblogging posts about it rn. I think it's mostly adhd, or really just a part of the larger Neurodivergence Soup (tm) that makes it nearly impossible for me to learn something from a YouTube video. I mean, sometimes for a hands-on task a video is essential, but can't there be a written list of instructions to go with it too, bc that sticks in my mind way better sobs... ANYWAY i'm currently on episode 43 of The Untamed, so I should be able to finish it by, like. The end of the year at least lol?
Currently reading: I started reading SVSSS recently because, like. The mxtx mania is in full throttle. I just got here a little later than most people lmao. I'm also currently "reading" like seven different books that I bought or pirated this year and have on hold. One of my Unfortunate Skills is bingereading like 200 pages of something in 1-2 days and then not finishing the rest of it for 8 months.
Currently working on: Keep My Shadow Alive, my big xue yang-centric fix it fic!!! Well, more like a fix it, and then break it more, and then eventually actually fix it fic. Starting from the canon divergence of "Add Pre-Teen Xue Yang to the Burial Mounds Fam" and going from there. I read every fic like that that's on ao3 and was still being eaten alive by the brainworms so I started writing my own take on it and ~6 months later it's the longest fic I've ever written and only 25% of the way through its outline???? So. Who knows if it will get finished (my track record is admittedly not great)- but I've had such a blast writing it so far. Xue Yang is just SO fun to write. Yes it has a plot and character arcs and I could even go full English Major* and start telling you about its Themes, but also it's just an excuse to write Xue Yang interacting with every member of the MDZS cast. Going to STOP talking now bc I fully am the type of writer who will get carried away talking about their wips.
*i am not an english major, but spiritually i am an english major.
Current obsession: Yeah uh, MDZS. My friend convinced me to finally read it in January of this year, and the hyperfixation train has simply not stopped since then. Genshin Impact also dragged me back in with the Fontaine update and I've been having a lot of fun playing it. But MDZS is still mostly the thing that's eating up my RAM. Particularly the Yi City crew, but 3zun is rotating in there too. Sometimes even The Man WWX Himself, i talk about him less but i do love him a lot also lol
Tagging: I'm honestly too shy to do this!!! But thank you for tagging me anyway<3
#love when people invite me to ramble💕#if i ever post something unprompted it has been edited 6 times for conciseness#not this post. i sat down and word vomited until it was over and i am not rereading it or i'll get self conscious#tag games#aphelion.txt#mdzs has been like. category 5 autism event#it's been a long time since something grabbed me this hard#often i'll be super obsessed with something for 2-3 months and wring all the interest out of it and move on#i mean it's not uncommon for me to cycle back to a previous interest after awhile and have another obsession phase#but the enduring power of mdzs has been quite impressive

DOMINANT HAND: Right
POSTURE: She always stands at her height. Perhaps a little higher since she wears heels a lot. Squared shoulders, chest forward and out, head held upward, and her arms swing by her side, unless she’s carrying her purse.
SCARS: There’s one on her back when she had a confrontation with a gang group, and a bit of bruise marks around her left wrist from a very, very bad date.
BIRTHMARKS: None
MOST NOTABLE FEATURES: She comes off as very cold and calculating. People are usually turned off by her presence since she exudes a very bitter, very unfriendly air in general.
𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐃𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐃 ―

FINANCIAL STATUS: Stable, making just enough to pay for necessary expenses, bills, and Makoto’s future college curriculum.
DRIVER’S LICENSE: Yes
CRIMINAL RECORD: None
VICES: Stubborn and resilient to the very end. A lot of times she believes her words and actions to all be justified, refusing to see another’s point of view or outside reasoning even though she works in law. She hates losing, and hates surrendering when the odds are stacked against her. She has cheated her way out of situations to get a quick win, but she’s learning to be better than that.
𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 ―
LOVE LANGUAGE: Words of affirmation, gift giving, and acts of service. She’s not much of showing her emotions through touch or by any physical means.
RELATIONSHIP TENDENCIES: It’s...difficult for Sae to even think about romantic relationships. She’s moreso focused on her own work, furthering her career, and making sure Makoto has enough to become an independent woman once she graduates from college. Many of her co-workers tease her about still being single, or finding someone to go on a date with her. That way she’s not acting like such a bitch around them and she can have a more positive attitude. She doesn’t want someone to ‘correct’ her personality, but someone who does truly love all of her. Even the harsher parts.
𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐄𝐎𝐔𝐒 ―
CHARACTER’S THEME TUNE: Exploring the World of Fables - The Wolf Among Us OST
HOBBIES TO PASS THE TIME: Kickboxing, reading short story novels, the occasional origami, yoga, sudoku puzzles
LEFT OR RIGHT BRAINED: Left brained
SELF-CONFIDENCE LEVEL: It’s quite average, but she’s not really all there under the surface. While she does feel comfortable with herself, both in a physical way and emotional way, there’s times where that confidence wavers because of how others perceive her. She wants to be independent, she wants to be trustworthy, but she’s also built herself a social wall when it comes to interacting with others. If they don’t like what they see concerning her, then she won’t bother to be around those people. But...it does affect her, little by little.

It’s 2025
Video games were absolute fire last year
Let’s go over those.
I played a lot of indie games this year and overall think that’s the best strategy for finding enjoyment now and in the years to come. The mainstream games industry is absolutely a mess, with new layoffs happening every other week it felt like. Indie studios aren’t doing much better, but your money is a lot more appreciated there so it also lets you feel good too. Plus, they’re doing better things than most of the AAA studios. Case in point...
#1 1000xRESIST
I wrote about this one a few months back, but tl;dr, it’s a walking simulator with some insane themes and incredibly good voice acting. I again urge you to try it without learning too much about the game because the way it emotionally connects is so satisfying to engage with. Gameplay-wise, it’s not stellar, but in terms of story and emotional impact there hasn’t been a better game in years.
#2 Armored Core 6
What a triumph of fun. This is a game that sticks you in front of speed demons, dozens of machines out for your blood, an apocalyptically tall walker, a hundreds of feet long mecha-worm, and you know from minute one it’s your time to shine. You are the best there is and everyone knows it and when the bad guys realize who they’re messing with the comms are just amazing. This is effectively an Ace Combat game in story and a frenetic action game in gameplay and it was a blast. It takes a special game to get me to play it three times in a row but this did the trick.
#3 Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
Fromsoft has been on a tear of late, and the DLC to Elden Ring does not disappoint. It was an incredible experience exploring this new world that felt just as big and mysterious as the original. It’s not perfect, there’s some glaring difficulty issues, finding things is pretty hard, and the Soulslike issue of needing a wiki open is on full display, but there’s not much bad I can say about how it makes you feel like the god-slaying champion you know you are. Also, I praised voice acting above, but the English VA for Igon not getting nominated for anything is a travesty.
#4 Signalis
If there was ever a game that was gonna make me trans this would be it. But beyond that it’s a very spooky horror experience with excellent theming and story, also just gorgeous imagery and an OST that hits hard. Very good game.
#5 Sucker for Love: Date to Die For
It’s more sucker for love, it’s silly, it’s not as spooky as 1 but it’s a good short time. Really liked the ending and there’s more gameplay too.
Interlude: Stuff I’ve played before
Like most years I replayed some games. Some of those were better than others. Let’s talk about that fast
Project Wingman: DLC came out for PC, it’s good, the final boss fight is absolutely insane. This is like the 10 Million Relief Plan DLC for AC7 but for a good game. Highly recommend the base game (obviously) as well as the DLC.
Path of Exile: This year had the absolute best league for PoE ever, for one simple reason: in game trading. I was able to dump/pick up currency and basic items at a moment’s notice. I picked up the best items in the game because I felt encouraged to keep playing the same character for over 200 hours. That’s some real shit right there. Wish there was a sequel to this game.
Ace Combat 04: I think I just play this one yearly at this point, it’s still incredible, highly recommend emulating it.
ULTRAKILL: P-Ranked Violence, game still great
Katana Zero: I come in intending to do one mission and end up beating the game, still great, DLC never
Warframe: Several new updates that were decent, 1999 which was good. Warframe remains a perfectly serviceable 7.5/10 game for when you need that.
Last Epoch: The game is out(ish) and still fine. But PoE was better this year. I’ll be back when the story is done.
League of Legends: I think I may finally be done with this game. I haven’t played since August and frankly it’s not looking like I’ll return. Their monetization has gotten more predatory (somehow), the gameplay is worse, and they show no signs of fixing longstanding issues. I haven’t uninstalled but I don’t think that’s far on the horizon.
#6 Fallen Aces
An immersive sim set in an alternate 1920s-30s where there’s costumed heroes and villains about. Think Watchmen pre-Dr. Manhattan. It’s good, not fully out but I spent a good amount of time playing through the first chapter.
#7 Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau
It is very janky but the story is great and it’s pretty funny. You’re an exorcist who goes to this village, ghosts appear, and you pull out an M-16. Good times ensue. Echoes of Call of Duty and Metal Gear are all over, but the game’s world feels original and it’s a good length at 5 hours.
#8 Severed Steel
Another in the line of SuperHot/Katana Zero/Ghostrunner. It’s fun, not too long, and has a lot of custom stuff if you want more.
#9 Balatro
This is a fun timesink. But it’s no Vampire Survivors. That said, if you often find yourself with some spare time you could use to game, there’s a mobile version and it’s pretty easy to pick up/put down.
#10 Ctrl Alt Ego
I mentioned this last year as something I had real high hopes for, and in general 90% of the game meets that expectation. But the last level left such a bad taste in my mouth that it dropped my overall opinion of the game significantly. That said, a lot of fun to be had here in this very British-style humor scifi immersive sim.
Interlude: Things I tried/Demos
I also tried a bunch of games. Some I’m waiting for a full release, some I’m waiting for the fancy to strike me to pick up more fully.
Of the Devil: Only the demo is out now but this game looks great, has excellent characters, and can get tense as hell. Eagerly awaiting the full release of episode 1.
Hades 2: Most of the game is out but it’s missing the story which is the main reason I played Hades 1 so waiting for this to be done, but if you dig good gameplay this has it in spades. Also has a spade.
Echo Point Nova: By the same guy(s?) who did Severed Steel, a movement shooter with some real cool world design. Definitely one I need to finish.
Animal Well: Another one I will need to finish. Very interesting game, a lot of style, but also kinda confusing? Regardless, there’s a lot of love here and it’s well worth the low price.
Pacific Drive: Very atmospheric, but not enough to do, and it’s a base builder which I’ve got mixed feelings about. But if you want to take an old car through The Zone Stalker, this is certainly that.
Children of the Sun: Stylish but didn’t jive with the core gameplay. You’re a kid escaping from a cult, you also are a sniper with the ability to curve the bullet.
Still Wakes the Deep: An Amnesia-like game, where you’re a very Scottish guy on a very VERY Scottish oil rig that pulled up Something Which Must Not Be Seen from the ocean. I played an hourish, realized I knew what the game was doing, and was like “ok we good”. But if you like that style of game this is a good one.
Other stuff I started and will come back to... eventually: Divinity Original Sin 2; BURGGEIST; Void Stranger; Tunic; Return of the Obra Dinn; Picayune Dreams; No Man’s Sky
#11 Nine Sols
I understand why people love this game. I did for a while too. But it is far too unforgiving at base difficulty, punishes you for lowering the difficulty, and has a lot of really dumb sections where you’re not fighting enemies but your own ability to interact with the game. After running into a mandatory stealth section, I closed it up and uninstalled. If you like Sekiro style combat give it a shot, it looks wonderful and the story/worldbuilding are cool as hell, but the gameplay really can grind.
#12 Path of Exile 2 Sigh... Guess I’ll talk about it.
This was a pretty big disappointment. The design direction of GGG suggested that they’d be slowing the game down but they just made it feel grindier and less fun. Combine that with the fact that a lot of core power is just locked away behind super rare resources/insanely difficult challenges and that the game isn’t finished, I played 20ish hours and realized I was not into it. I’ll finish when the entire campaign drops but for now, I’m not into it.
That about wraps it up. A lot of very very good stuff got played this year, and my to-play list is still super long. In the past couple days I’ve started playing like 4 new things that all rock so expect a similarly long list next year. Hopefully we get Silksong.

SPADE x HUNTER Chronicles
The Hunter Exam Pt. 2
In case you don't come from the main post, hi. This is my attempt to fully insert my HxH S/I in the main story! Gotta thank my friends whose feedback has kept me motivated to continue writing and finally posting this work, because my original plan was to keep it to myself lol
January 7th OST: Hunter ☆ March 06:00 AM The following morning I woke up at 6 AM. Ponzu was still watching over me, which was super sweet, however, when I sat up she just got back up and walked away, which did make me feel a little sad. I thought alliances would be easier to form, but apparently most examinees liked things better when it was everyone for themselves. It does make sense, the exam is a competition, but nothing is stopping people from teaming up. After spending a whole month on that ship without making a single friend I was craving for some company.
06:40 AM
A new group of people came out of the elevator. There were three; one boy and two guys, they seemed very friendly with each other, maybe they’d be cool with me too! Unfortunately they were instantly approached by Tonpa, who tried to pull the same trick he tried on me. Luckily, the kid noticed there was something off with the juice and spit it out, the other two did the same. Tonpa apologized profusely and left them alone. Time to make my move! I went up to them, probably looking awkward. Chatlog:
– [Spade]: "Uhm, sorry to approach you like this, I noticed that Tonpa guy was talking to you three."
[Leorio]: "Hm? Oh, yeah, he was talking to us. Do you know him?"
[Spade]: "Well, not exactly, he approached me earlier too, he's been going around approaching a lot of people actually... I've heard he's known as a rookie crusher, just thought I'd... warn you guys."
[Leorio]: "Wait, what? Rookie crusher? Wait, no... No way in hell- do you mean he’s intentionally trying to have people fail the Hunter Exam?"
[Spade]: "Yes, that's exactly what he does, I overheard someone talking about him yesterday."
[Gon]: "Whaaaat?! That's terrible!"
[Kurapika]: "I knew he looked suspicious, but I could've never imagined something like this… did you really hear someone say that?"
[Spade]: “Yes, I heard #187 calling him out, you can ask him as well, he probably knows about other returning examinees too.”
[Kurapika]: “I see…”
[Leorio]: "Well, that definitely explains why he was acting so desperate with that whole juice shtick. Thanks for telling us. Say, what's your name?"
[Spade]: "Oh uh, it's alright... I'm Spade, and you guys are?"
[Leorio]: "Ah, I'm Leorio. My friends here are Kurapika and Gon, it’s nice to meet you." –
Suddenly, a scream pierced the air and we all turned around to see a man whose arms had been cut clean off by a magician-looking dude. Creepy. I definitely didn’t want to get on his bad side. Some people recognized him from last year’s Hunter exam, his name was Hisoka.
07:00 AM The first examiner introduced himself as Satotz, he was an odd guy, but seemed pretty alright. He told us to follow him, which slowly evolved into us running after him; I decided to stick close to the trio, and specifically to Leorio. We were all doing pretty well, even though we didn’t know how long we’d be running for.
At one point, we saw a kid with a skateboard pass us by, and Leorio got mad, but Gon pointed out that all Satotz said was to follow him, he didn’t specify how.
Upon finding out that Gon was his same age, the white haired boy, whose name was Killua, hopped off his skateboard and started running as well. After running for a couple hours, I started getting a bit tired, but still not enough to stop me. Leorio on the other hand looked about ready to drop out. I slowed down along with Gon to wait for him. I didn’t say anything, just looked at him, and after a while he actually got mad at himself for almost dropping out and started running even harder than before! That’s the spirit! I followed after him and caught up with Kurapika as well; that was when I overheard the two guys talking about the true reasons why they want to be hunters. I was shocked to learn about Kurapika’s past, it definitely felt like I wasn’t supposed to hear that. Leorio also explained his reason, and the fact that he was there risking his life just to reach his goal of becoming a doctor and saving people’s lives nearly brought me to tears. He’s a good guy. I pulled up my hair and ran past them, up the stairs and out of the tunnel, finally.
10:00 AM Satotz gave us a couple minutes to rest up before the test would continue, so I decided I’d sit down on the grass next to Leorio to chat a bit with him. Chatlog:
– [Spade]: "Whew... I thought we'd never get out of that tunnel for a moment haha..."
[Leorio]: "Yeah, I was starting to think that we'd never get out of there either."
[Spade]: "Heh... yeah... by the way I uh... overheard your talk with Kurapika about why you want to pass the hunter exam, and- I just wanted to say I think you have a very noble reason to do so!"
[Leorio]: "Oh, you...you heard that? Heh, that's a bit embarrassing."
[Spade]: "Not at all! I think... wanting to save people's lives free of charge is a really beautiful thing!"
[Leorio]: "H-Heh, I just think that if there's any suffering that I can stop, if there's any pain I can help ease, I think that'd be...a good way to spend my time."
[Spade]: "That's such a respectable mindset, Mr. Leorio, I mean it!"
[Leorio]: “Oh, thank you… hehe… by the way you can uh… drop the ‘Mr.’, really”
[Spade]: "Oh heh alright then, Leorio!" –
Soon enough, our break was over, and Satotz explained to us we were currently in Swindler Swamp, a wetland inhabited by dangerous creatures which used deceit as their main way to capture their prey. If anyone got lost, they’d surely die. Immediately after that explanation, a man-faced ape tried to trick us, but Hisoka made himself known again and attacked both the fake examiner and Satotz, to know for sure who was the real deal and who wasn't.
OST: Strange People 10:10 AM The second part of phase one quickly began after that. We had to make our way through some misty, extremely dangerous wetlands. I tried my best to stick with Leorio and Kurapika, but once the fog became thicker, I ended up losing track of them. I somehow managed not to die! Although I did have some very close calls with a couple of Ruse Ravens. Other than that I managed.
At some point, I ended up running into Hisoka in a clearing, right when he was facing Gon and Leorio. I attempted to help Gon, karate-chopping Hisoka’s arm as he was strangling the boy, which seemed to be enough to break his grip. Gon heaved for a couple of seconds and then went to check on Leorio. It was then that Hisoka wondered if I was worth fighting, but before he could attack me, he was interrupted by a call on his walkie-talkie, warning him not to lose time. We decided to put that aside for now, and get to the next site quickly. I was about to go with Gon, but saw Hisoka picking up Leorio and decided to stick with him, because I didn’t trust the man at ALL, and I didn’t want him to do something to Leorio. Hisoka seemed to be fine with that, and we calmly continued on our way to the meeting point, which is rather absurd, the swamp didn’t look nearly as scary while walking through it with a murderous clown. Chatlog:
– [Hisoka]: “Could I ask you a question?"
[Spade]: "Huh? What is it?"
[Hisoka]: "Well, I was just curious- that was quite a good chop you gave me… do you consider yourself a strong fighter?"
[Spade]: "Honestly... I don't know."
[Hisoka]: “Hm, you don’t know?”
[Spade]: “Well… I’m aware I’m stronger than the average person, but… I’ve also seen what actual strength is like, and I feel like I’m nowhere near that yet.”
[Hisoka]: "Oh? That is quite an interesting answer... How long have you been practicing Nen?"
[Spade]: "Huh? H-how did you... *sigh* Only for a couple years, my cousin introduced me to it."
[Hisoka]: "Well, you certainly show a lot of promise. I would love to see what you could do in an actual fight... perhaps one where we are a bit more serious."
[Spade]: "Uh... I guess we could, not a death match if possible haha, I'd like to live."
[Hisoka]: "Of course, don't worry, I'm not interested in killing you... yet… But that doesn't mean I'll go easy on you either..."
[Spade]: "Aha awesooome… then, perhaps once we're not on a time limit we could have a good fight..."
[Hisoka]: "Now we're talking... It should be fun when that time comes... I'll be looking forward to it."
[Spade]: "You really like fighting, huh?"
[Hisoka]: "Oh, yes, heh you could say I do…"
[Spade]: "But you don't seem to fight just anyone."
[Hisoka]: "That's true... I'm not going to waste my time with those weak of spirit... If I'm going to fight someone, they need to be a real challenge... someone who'll make my blood run hot with excitement. Otherwise, it would be a bore."
[Spade]: "Ah... is that why you wanna fight me?"
[Hisoka]: "Precisely. You're strong and you've shown that you have potential, especially for a beginner... that makes you interesting to me."
[Spade]: "How lucky, I'm getting the full Hisoka experience."
[Hisoka]: "Oh, you should know... the full Hisoka experience is anything but ordinary."
[Spade]: "As expected of a great magician!”
[Hisoka]: "You're quite an interesting one, aren't you? I must admit, I find your sense of humor... unique."
[Spade]: "Aha… ha…" –
We got to the forest, and finally the fog lifted. Hisoka left Leorio against a tree, and I saw him go to the needle guy. It makes sense, weird guys stick together. I waited until Leorio woke up again, and he looked at me hazily. Chatlog:
– [Leorio]: "Whuh...hey...I'm...Where are we?"
[Spade]: "You're awake! Oh thank goodness- we're waiting for the second phase to start... got through the swamp!"
[Leorio]: "What? Wait what? We're already through the swamp?"
[Spade]: "Yeah! You... don't remember anything?"
[Leorio]: "Yeah... No, I don't. Did something happen?"
[Spade]: "Uuuuh... nope, you just... got knocked out by a beast and I carried you here"
[Leorio]: "T-Thank you... for helping me. I'm in your debt."
[Spade]: "Ah i-it's nothing, really..."
[Leorio]: "You're adorable, you know that?"
[Spade]: "H-huh?! Me? Adorable?? Y-you must've hit your head pretty hard..."
[Leorio]: "Haha, look, you’re all red! What? Can’t handle a compliment?"
[Spade]: "Ah... s-shut up..." –
And then I flicked his forehead. At that point, Gon and Kurapika caught up to us just in time before the timer ran out, and Gon took me to the side to thank me for helping him out with Hisoka earlier. I didn’t feel like there was any need to thank me, but I appreciated his words.

miscarriage pain terrible 1st baby too
miscarriage pain in first pregnancy
Miscarriage pain can happen if its a first second or subsequent of another pregnancy. In a first pregnancy it can result in a miscarriage. The important question you'll want to know is for miscarriage pain will it hurt?. In the first instance a miscarriage in m ost instances usually happens in the first trimester . In the First trimester of a pregnancy the root cause is due to the developing fetus issues. Thats why although its a very sad time miscarriages are not uncommon. 1 in 8 pregnancies can end in a miscarriage when it comes to statistics information. Miscarriage sensitve topic disgussed in full detail Trigger warning Miscarriage pain occurs from mild moderate to severe instances.Next the further along in pregnancy a woman gets to. The more intense the pain. This is because along with the baby growing inside the womb. So does the placenta.Next The bigger the placenta there is more blood flow going through to support the pregnancy. Therefore the pain gets stronger in terms of a full miscarriage ,its because the placenta comes away from the wall of the uterus. Causing pain, discomfort as the baby too is lost.In a completed miscarriage the womb is emptied of the full pregnancy including baby placenta fluid around the baby called the amniotic sac and its water like contents. what can you take for miscarriage pain? If you are not far along into a pregnancy and heavy bleeding as started you can take pain killers . paracetamol and ibuprofen is whats recommended for miscarriage pain. You may think Oh i dont like to take anything when I'm pregnant it may affect the growing baby. But this is one occasion that as the baby has died it will not do anything to harm them at this point. You may be able to get an appointment at the early pregnancy unit. they can put your mind at ease. If its just implantation bleeding that your are experiencing and not a full miscarriage.
How will I know if I have had a complete miscarriage ? Only a scan will let the midwife and other nursing staff see what's going on with the womb and the growing baby. If the uterus is fully empty it will show on the ultrasound scan. If the baby has been delivered at home or in a maternity unit setting then the pregnancy as indeed ended. It will classed by the medical staff as a miscarriage in the UK up to 23 plus 6 days of being pregnant. from 24 weeks gestation a baby has to have a funeral by law. And with a stillbirth delivery the child in question will get a birth and death certificate at this stage of development. Above and beyond miscarriage pain
As well as the strong stomach pains a woman experiences during a miscarriage there is something else that causes pain. In fact its so intense it can cause such a terrible heartache. And thats the worse part . knowing the baby has died. Gone in an instant the pregnancy has indeed ended at this point. It could be the instant that a routine scan done at the local hospital revealed that the baby has no heart beat. its at that moment that the pain of losing a child now takes place. What pain what sorrow in that moment on hearing those dreaded words from the sonographer. The final act of the baby coming out can indeed in cases cause trauma. knowing that you have to go through labour to get the baby out. Also known as a misssed miscarriage . mums often have to go through whats known as a D and C. Admitted into hospital at another time for an operation to stop an infection in the womb from happening, especially if the baby died some time ago. what are Read the full article

@mare-sanguis !
Damn, a thorough meta-analysis on colors and their history for us to read!? As always your posts always make me learn or remember sth wholesome like that ;;
Ngl I was so invested in that scene in ep. 10 + LMS’s character that the torture went a tiny little bit over my head, and perhaps that’s the intention of the drama (look at KSJ’s madness as he tries to ‘justify’ LMS’s murder with the people’s vote!) 8D
About LMS & white: pretty fitting if you also link it to some meanings his name can have ➾ purity and innocence ; saint (as he’s always been seen in society’s eyes, even more so with his new identity in the present) ; a glossy/polished/stainless facade and… nothingness/negation, like KMC!
It also plays a lot with how LMS should be seen right now (even though how monstrous he acts lmao), targeted by TKV: a victim whose blood is shed in the name of a supposedly idealistic vigilantism while LMS claims it’s a farce everybody takes pleasure in and KSJ uses it for revenge (and I believe exposing official authorities and/or Min Jiyoung's sprawling corruption and violence)!
Yesssss for the blue: it’s a reminder of Aalia's OST and how KSJ ‘died’/became a ghost of himself ever since at the hands of LMS’s monster (like, once again going back to their names, KSJ can have the prison associated to his name, while LMS can have the act of imprisoning/confining someone attached to it!).
I’m mind-blown by the poisonous history of green, it’s so fascinating! It reminds me of the history behind the absinthe/« fée verte »!
(And yes, LMS’s name also has the meaning of guarding/defending sth/sb against what’s perceived as external agressions, possessiveness, reification and jealousy much lmao)
Also 10000% agreeing with you on the red lighting KMC & KSJ differently!!! It highlights even more KMC’s inevitable dilemma that plagues him: aside from the breath he finally let out once KSJ cried out his name and pleaded him, the raw, vivid red lighting speaks for his rage, distress and agony (like a heart would wildly leap out of one’s chest ; red is often associated to the heart too!): in each choice lies an ineluctable double-edged sword unfortunately!
-> Should he let LMS die by KSJ’s hands, thus quenching KSJ’s ardent wish for revenge, but in return sentencing him to death penalty? -> Should he save LMS from KSJ’s revenge, thus preventing death penalty from being ruled in KSJ’s case and entrusting LMS’s case to the hands of the law? But in return, saving LMS (and even more so in front of KSJ’s eyes) would somehow mean choosing ‘devils deemed innocent’ over the victims, Narae and KSJ, from KSJ’s standpoint. The whole scene is also a sick parallel to their flashback scene in ep. 4 when they discover Narae’s body (KSJ halted by the police, crying in pain ; KMC standing right next to Narae), this time replaced by LMS... ! This would ultimately kindle KSJ’s hatred/resentment towards KMC. It seems to be the case given LMC’s line in the preview (‘Hate me all you want’, which sounds directed at KSJ but it might be to somebody else)! And I believe KMC is despaired to the point he’s determined to forsake his relationship with KSJ (the remains of the latter’s feelings towards him), he might’ve already made up his mind. After all, in the preview (if KMC addresses KSJ), KMC uses 원망하다, which is a pretty strong verb: bear a grudge against, resent. It’s no more about KMC disliking/hating KSJ as Joohyun once asked him (the usual 싫어하다 for dislike/hate), they’ve passed the point of no return (hopefully not though vdbfjvdfbvf). It’s also been foreshadowed by their dialogue in ep. 6: KSJ would not forgive KMC twice should he make a ‘wrong choice’ and fail to capture LMS by using KSJ himself as the bait (the drama reveals ONLY in ep. 9 that KSJ knew LMS was BWT's accomplice, which definitely adds another interesting layer to this conversation!!). Whether he meant it at the end of the day (tbh, KSJ seemed already dead-set on murdering LMS) is another question!
And ironically, that red lighting engulfs KMC’s profile as he is about to revive LMS’s heart: whose heart is actually threatening to stop in this scene… ?
(Joining you on your not-so-delusional thoughts on their love for each other showing in dire situations! Red is also sometimes associated to love and passion so… !)
Thank you so so much for this fascinating read once more 💚
The Colors in ep. 10
Notes on "Ambidextrous Angle" here
Notes on "Lady Justice" here
During the torture scene of LMS they went through multiple types of colors, which I found pretty interesting as someone whos studied colors and their meanings intensely over the years. And as a lot in TKV has meaning and thoughts put behind it, I wanted to make a post highlighting the scene- and the colors specifically. It will also including short historical informations about each color.
Its starts with a mix of red and orange on the tables- making it look like vermillion (a color that borders orange and red and is also often times used in skin color shading), specifically HEX color FFD400. The color will come up later again.
Interestingly enough, since ancient times the color vermillion was regarded as the color of blood- thus of life. In Ancient Rome, the color was widely used to paint frescos, to decorate statues and produce cosmetics. It was also used in the Byzantine Empire reserved for the use of the imperial family and their administrators (used in official letters and imperial decrees) the illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages, in the paintings of the Renaissance, as well as in the art and lacquerware of China. The color can also be found all over the murals in Villa dei Misteri (Villa of Mystery before 79 AD) in Pompeii.
As the color of blood and life, it fits perfectly as the starting color of the whole scene.
LMS in the meantime is illuminated by white light.
Ironically- or fitting?- its the color of innocence, purity, hope and clarity. It represents goodness, perfection and peace. Looking at the color, it purifies the mind and helps to find balance. But like every color, it also has negative aspects such as coldness, emptiness, nothingness and distance. A lot of times, its also the color of self-reflection (VERY fitting if you’d ask me). White was one of the first colors used in Prehistoric cave art (good example are those at Lascaux in France) which feature marks and images made used calcite and chalk. Ancient Greece saw white as a sacred color (representing light and motherhood), in Rome plain white togas (togas virilis) were worn by all citizens at ceremonial occasions. During early christian times, they adopted the romans use of white- priests wore the color during mass as for them, white was symbolic of purity, humility and virtue (reinforced by the “white lamb” which was symbolic of christ’s sacrifice for humanity). Later, throughout the middle ages, white was strongly associated with martyrdom. It was also the commonly worn color by widows in mourning up until the 16th century- giving the color an association with death and refelection.
Illuminating a criminal like him in white is truly a choice. It does fit the intentions of the whole torture tho: redeption, hope and clarity.
In the same frame, centering the vermillion color, we can also see yellow and orange.
Yellow is the color of happiness and optimism. It clarifies and inspires the mind and helps in creativity- it also gives warmth. The negative associations with the color are caution, egotism, deception and cowardice. Yellow is also one of the oldest colors to exist and is seen in cave paintings 17.000 years old. Painters in the Middle Ages and Renaissance used “Indian yellow” to show an outsider. Most notably Judas Iscariot (again, pretty fitting to the whole biblical references found throughout TKV). In ancient religions, yellow was a sacred color. Just like gold, it was seen as eternal, imperishable and indestructible. Many religions worshipped the sun, and the sun gods were depicted wearing yellow. The Ancient Egyptians believed the gods had gold skin and bones and used yellow for their skin tone in art. Yellow is also an important color in Buddhism, signifying humility. It can also be found in paintings from Ancient Rome.
Orange symbolizes youth, enthusiasm and optimism. It uplifts and stimulates the mind. Its the color of creativity, warmth and spontaneity. On the other hand, it shows domination and impatience. Up until the 16th century it was called “saffron” or “yellow-red”. When Portuguese merchants brought orange trees to Europe from Asia in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, the citrus fruit’s name was adopted for the general color. In some cultures, orange is regard as a sacred color because it balances red’s power and yellow’s perfection. Monks and holy men in some Asian religions, like Buddhism, wear orange robes because that dye has been readily available historically. Buddhists also connect orange to the highest state of illumination. Its also the color of transformation in Confucianism. and a symbol of royalty.
Again, two colors highlighting the personalties of both LMS and KSJ in a well done way.
The color then changes to a dirty blue hue- with a slight turquoise shade.
Blue- the color of loyalty and trust. It gives the feeling of security, trust, confidence, peace, honesty and reliability. It calms and relaxes the brain. Negative feelings associated with blue are passiveness, depression and prediction. The history of the color blue is quite interesting: It was never a color to be found in nature (no, water isnt blue and the sky also changes colors and if there is indeed something blue found in nature its either with a violet or turquoise shade) thus, we humans previously were never able to even “see” the color (we perceived it, but we had no idea what it even was). The first society to have a word for the colour blue was the Egyptians, the only culture that could produce blue dyes at around 2.200 B.C: They loved the precious stones lapis and turquoise* so much that they invented the first synthetic blue pigment in order to affordably copy their unique color. “Egyptian blue” was made by mixing silica, lime, copper, and alkali, and it could be used on stone, wood, plaster, papyrus and canvas.
Turquoise on the other hand is the color of compassion, calmness and clarity. It balances and stabilizes the brain. It can help concentrate, to grow, and underline empathy. In contradiction it also symbolizes narcissism, stress and secrecy. The earliest evidence of turquoise* gemstones comes from Ancient Egyptian tombs: They contain elaborate turquoise jewelry dating back to 3000 BCE. Egyptians set turquoise in gold necklaces as well as in rings, used it as inlay, and carved it into scarabs. Most notably, King Tut’s iconic burial mask was extravagantly adorned with turquoise. The oldest turquoise mines are in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt. One sat near an ancient temple dedicated to Hathor, the Greek goddess of love and joy who was worshiped as a protector in the desert and as the patron saint of mining. Egyptians called turquoise “mefkat”, which meant “joy” and “delight.” -> Ancient Persians also decorated extensively with turquoise, often engraving it with Arabic script. Turquoise covered palace domes: For them, its sky-blue color represented heaven. (This later inspired the use of turquoise in buildings like the Taj Mahal). They also adorned their daggers and horses’ bridles with it as they believed it granted protection. They would also wear turquoise gemstone jewelry around their necks and in their turbans. -> Meanwhile, pre-Columbian Native Americans mined the turquoise stone throughout the present-day southwestern United States. Shamans used it in sacred ceremonies to commune with the spirit of the sky. -> Apache Indians believed that attaching turquoise to bows (and later, firearms) improved a hunter’s accuracy. -> Turquoise became valuable in Native American trade, which carried North American material toward South America. -> Consequently, Aztecs cherished turquoise for its protective power and used it on ceremonial masks, knives, and shields.
Picking the color blue is again a really nice callback to the OST. PT3 (Blue by Aalia) and highlights the depression (or "death") KSJ went through.
Turquoise shining onto LMS face fits perfectly. The negative aspects highlight his persona.
After the blue, the color switches to green and here it is when it gets really interesting- this might be an even longer historical excurse than the turquoise one:
First we should start by looking at the positive associations to the color: It means harmony, safety, growth, health, hope, prosperity and luck. It helps the brain to revitalize, to relax and encourages. Negative aspects associated with the color are judgment, materialism and inexperience. And obviously the most famous ones: Envy and jealousy. We all know the famous saying “Green with envy” The history of the color green dates back to the Ancient Egyptians. To produce the color they used green earth and malachite, while the Ancient Greeks used verdigris. -> Malachite contains a high percentage of copper which makes it highly poisonous to humans when inhaling the dust or eaten. Once its polished its not poisonous anymore. -> Verdigirs is a common name for any variety of poisonous copper salts and acetic acids. Green had a resurgence in art during the Impressionist movement due to advancements in green pigments and paints.
The bold emerald green became popular in fashion in the 1800s, used for gloves and dresses- as well as wallpapers and furniture as well as found in candy, paper, toys, medicine and dye- it was also then it became an even more poisonous color. Its name varies from “Scheelen’s Green”, “Paris Green” to “Emerald Green” and “Schweinfurt Green”. And as it was probably already obvious, the color was loaded with copper arsenite which is one of the deadliest elements to have ever been found. Scheelen’s green (invented around the 1775 by the Swedish chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele) was an artificial colorant that was made by heating up sodium carbonate, adding arsenious oxide, and stirring until the mixture was dissolved. Copper sulfate was then added as the final ingredient which ends up giving it its vibrant green color ->(Arsenic is a highly toxic substance that causes skin lesions, vomiting, diarrhea, and in some cases, cancer) As said as it was quite popular in the 1800’s countries were riddled in this substance. ->(It has also been rumored to have killed the famous Napoleon Bonaparte.) Schweinfurt green is the product of combining copper acetate with arsenic trioxide, producing copper acetoarsenite. The toxic pigment was commercially developed in 1814 by the Wilhelm Dye and White Lead Company in Schweinfurt, Germany. It too was used everywhere, from clothing and wallpaper to colorant for fake flowers and paint.
By 1860 more than 700 tons of the pigment had been produced in the country alone.
There are stories of factory workers, mainly those who worked with fashion, suffering acid burning and losing their hair and limbs, specifically their hands, after they had been in contact with the color for way too long. “In 1871, a lady who purchased a box of green-colored gloves at a well-known and respectable house was horrified to find that her hands broke out in blisters after putting them on. Unless the dye was sealed, sweaty palms could cause the dye to run onto the wearer’s skin. Other accounts from this era tell of babies dying in their nurseries after playing on green carpets or rubbing up against green wallpaper. One foreign dignitary even told Queen Victoria that the green wallpaper in Buckingham Palace had made him ill.” On November 20, 1861, Matilda Scheurer, a 19-year-old artificial flower maker, died of “accidental” poisoning: The formerly healthy, “good-looking” young woman worked for Mr. Bergeron in central London, along with a hundred other employees. She “fluffed” artificial leaves, dusting them with an attractive green powder that she inhaled with every breath and ate off her hands at each meal. The brilliant hue of this green pigment, which was used to colour dresses and hair ornaments, was achieved by mixing copper and highly toxic arsenic trioxide or “white arsenic” as it was known. The press described her death in grisly detail, and by all accounts, Scheurer’s final illness was horrible. She vomited green waters; the whites of her eyes had turned green, and she told her doctor that “everything she looked at was green.” In her final hours, she had convulsions every few minutes until she died, with “an expression of great anxiety” and foaming at the mouth, nose and eyes. An autopsy confirmed that her fingernails had turned a very pronounced green and the arsenic had reached her stomach, liver, and lungs.
-> More on “Scheele’s Green” here
Green so not only fits the scene in relation to envy and jealousy, but also to its poisonous attributions. It again highlights KSJ previous personality (harmony) and LMS' (envy)- and the horrible deathly history behind the color makes it even more clear what type of person he is.
After the green, the room is then engulfed in yellow as well as vermillion (explained above) again-
Following this, the last change of color we see is red.
Associated with action, strength, energy and passion red helps to stimulate and motivate the mind, to pay attention and stay cautious. Its positive aspects are courage, desire, sexuality and confidence whereas its negative associations are anger, danger, revenge and aggression. Throughout history, the color red has represented many things: life force, the divine to love, lust, and anger. Throughout the Middle Ages, red was a color of privilege in the Western world. For many cultures, it was the only color worthy enough to be used for social purposes (“In some languages, the word for red was the same as the word for color”). One of the first color developed for painting and dying, red became associated with war, wealth, and power in antiquity. In the Middle Ages, red had a religious significance, as it was seen as the color of the blood of Christ and the fires of Hell. It also had a secular meaning: The symbolism of love, glory, and beauty. During the Protestant Reformation, red began to decline in status and fell out of favor: It was viewed as indecent and immoral as it was linked to luxury and the excesses of the Catholic Church. After the French Revolution, red gained new respect as the color of progressive movements, freedom, new liberties and radical left-wing politics.
Personally, I love how they not only picked red as the last color to highlight the anger and pain of KSJ but also how it illuminates both him and KMC in a different shade. While KSJ has the more darker red, underlining the more calmer anger, KMC is drowned in bright hot red- underlining his anger which he definitely does NOT have under control (hes holding back so much in that scene and if it wasnt for the death penalty awaiting KSJ if LMS would die, he would have killed him without hesitation). Also, the religious importance is another nice callback to all the religious imagery we have seen throughout the drama.
(might also add my delusions to the post: the red symbolizes the love they still feel for each other)
Intentionally or not, the way and order how they picked and presented the colors directly mirrors each character, their personal journey and the development of their anger. The fact it started with more calmer/friendlier colors and slowly turned into more agressive ones is done just beautifully.
