So.... while we're waiting for ASM Season 3, how about a little off-topic tuesday? (this won't be a regular thing, i promise!)

Here's what I've been reading during the hiatus! (romcom edition!)

This Love is a Traves-tea!? It's an adorable romcom manga about a woman named Chako who's running away from her psycho stalker ex and straight into the arms of a hunky tea maker!

It's got all the cute embarrassed pining of a classic romance manga plus who can resist daddies daddy-ing? Idk about you but i'm a sucker for manga about found families and the kids are hilarious in this! Chako also makes a super charming FL, I love her sweet sincerity.

Wakaba-chan Wants to Make it Clear! The rough and sporty Wakaba-chan lives a not so secret double life, hiding her feminine side from her longtime childhood best friend and crush, Daiki!

I know what this manga looks like. But coming from the creator of A World Where Everything Definitely Becomes BL vs. The Man Who Definitely Doesn't Want To Be In A BL, this manga is 1000% more wholesome than you'd expect! It's a super short and sweet slice-of-life romance manga that needs more fans!!

Life with Muta It's the comedic life of two arranged roommates, except their lifestyles are complete opposites! Akari's life is filled with trash and trashy men while Muta's a complete minimalist with no room in his heart for romance!

While short, this manga has so much amazing potential, as it takes one step away from being a spinoff to Marie Kondo's guide to tidying up to a whirlwind tale of romance. Plus, when our ML is this kind of guy... don't you just HAVE to know more?

Nekozuka-kun Wears a Secret Mei is an officer worker whose mind is more focused on cats than her love life! Her company junior, Nekozuka just so happens to remind her of her family's raggedy stray cat. Little does she know, there's more truth to her imagination that she thought!

This is another new manga with an amazing first chapter! If you love cats and you love blushy MLs, this is the one for you! I can't to see where this goes!

Yes, 'tis always a time of great reflection for me--right around my birthday--and I'm happy it hasn't turned people off to the fun of fanfic. I just really enjoy complex thinking. I enjoy building multi-faceted characters and storylines. I enjoy when things don't go the way you expected (IN FIC). Stuff like that makes our brains work harder to see and understand the real world around us.

I don't like the idea that I'm 'making excuses' for bad behavior, but I'm also concerned by how many logical and self-preserving actions we take offense to when we aren't the person benefitting. There's absolutely douchey folks out in the world, selfish people who dngaf about you or your feelings, but remember even those you love can't have all of you and your energy all of the time. Maybe that feels like selfishness to them in those moments? Doesn't mean it wasn't right for you and possibly best for them as well.

How can you be your authentic self if you don't give yourself any time to be?

I have the luxury of being a very patient person. It's perhaps the single most-helpful trait I possess (which also makes me sit a very long time on nice comments such as, well, most of yours 😘), and I've grown fond of the idea that my patience has led to understanding that imperfect moments, inarticulate speeches, and misinterpretations can be unifying, clarifying, and informative.

Just don't chase the chicken! Watch it roam. Laugh at the absurdity. Remember to conserve your energy for pursuits worth your time. But of course, thank Tiny for his offering. A chicken for your table was a logical gift from him. He did not bring it to shit in your throne room.

Give yourself as much grace as you give others. Reflect on your actions as much as you do everyone else's. Then give yourself space, as much space as you can for as long as possible, until you see all the facets. You won't right away; you won't even see how your own brain works for a while.

Live imperfect moments. Give inarticulate speeches. Misinterpret and be misinterpreted.

You are offering a chicken for the table, and sometimes, they get loose and cause chaos. Sometimes, with your best intentions and all your logic, your offering to the world will shit in the throne room. It's okay. It happens to all of us.

Good! I had an easy day at work so it went by fast. And my boyfriend of 5 years and I are officially getting married this year in April!

flashtheponyofwind: What inspired you to do art?

As a kid I loved drawing, even more than the usual kid! Watching cartoons, playing pretend with my sister, and reading made me want to make my own stories and characters. It wasn’t until I started applying to college that I decided I would do art for a living!

splungecoyote: Do you like your sandwiches cut diagonally or horizontally?

Diagonal all the way!! (Unless I am making a half sandwich of course)

jdeck306: and to the mod: How long have you been drawing? And how did you design Sky and Fleet’s crew?

Originally, Fleet’s team were 3  white stallion pegasii  named after cloud types. Stratus, Cumulous, and Cirrus. Generic henchmen. When it was time to introduce them, though, I ended up going all out! Then I fell in love with them! This is how I imagined them to look.

Sky was going to appear on another, abandoned ask blog of mine. His very first design was so ugly, haha, he’s changed a lot! He was actually always meant to have Fleet Folly as a rival! So mad I lost Fleet’s original concept art.

Sometimes I worry my emotions aren’t real. Like I don’t feel them enough, or I am only telling myself I feel them. How do you even prove you really love or hate or feel sad about something? Also spiders.

Yes, when I was a kid, but not in a while. I loved the early seasons. Favorite episodes are the one with “The Best Day Ever”, the one about Pearl’s birthday, and the one where Sponge and Pat paint inside Mr.Krabs’ house.

“Shadow Play” for making me ship TwiBurst. “It Ain’t Easy Being Breezie” for being good. “Keep Calm and Flutter On” because of Discord and also being a great episodes! Favorite songs are “Bats” and “Art of the Dress”.

At the start of the year I redesigned my sona to be a bat! So I changed Page Turner to look similar. She’s not exactly a kirin, just a bat unicorn pony thing!

My sona (Mayor)'s new design was decided because I like bats/cats and because I like this shade of blue a lot. Her old design was fine, but was a bit too plain for my tastes, plus I had changed so much since I first designed her!

I’ve been told I have crazy work ethic before, and I love art so much, It’s what I spend most of my free time doing. I love to tell stories and see myself improve. I do it for me. You guys encourage me to continue, but that’s just a bonus.

sm0lcatfish: what was the inspiration behind lost celestia? was she always intended to be a part of the sky warden+fleet folly sorta universe or did that come later?

In 2017 I sketched a drawing that looked kinda like this. I got the idea for a Celestia ask blog called “Tower Princess” where she would have amnesia, break out of a tower, and look wide eyes and emotionless. I didn’t follow through because I didn’t think I could accomplish it. So instead I started Ask Wizard Sunburst c:

Ask King Sombra was also inspiration for me finally starting this blog, as it showed me a story-driven ask blog could both be successful and include OCs in the main cast! As for Sky Warden, I very self indulgently included him so Celestia wouldn't just look around confusedly at everything without any dialogue or exposition. Lastly, Fleet was always a part of Sky's story, but him getting his own blog was an accident driven by me being Way Too Into My Own Characters hahah.

Teashle: Your art is wonderful! It reminds me a lot of moonstuck. And congrats on marriage! Anyways: what are your inspirations?

Thank you! That’s the second time someone has mentioned moonstuck and I’m still not sure what it is! Most of my inspiration is from artists in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fandom on DA but I also am inspired by stuff like Avatar: TLA, The Underland Chronicles, Game of Thrones, Teen Titans.... It’s a wide variety of things!

For this week's Off Topic Tuesday: my favorite documentary on cycle commuting.

There are some links here where you can purchase or download the documentary, but last I had a Netflix account the documentary was still on Netflix.

*obligatory disclaimer that I am aware that cycle commuting isn't possible for everyone, especially if they're physically disabled. However, as a small caveat, the more those who can cycle commute switch to cycle commuting, the less traffic there will be clogging the roads for those who actually do need to use a motor vehicle.
