HURRICANE HAX CRASHES BRIAR RIDGE SUMMER MUSIC FEST
On Sunday afternoon, gale-force winds and torrential rain abruptly brought the Summer Music Fest to a halt. Unfortunately, Kacey Musgraves, as the headlining act, wasn't able to get a flight to Briar Ridge in time, due to the weather. With a hurricane warning issued, first responders swiftly shut down the event, urging everyone to seek immediate shelter at Oakland Elementary and Middle School. Upon arrival, everyone was sent to the gymnasium as their gathering point to wait out the storm. First responders assigned various tasks to volunteers to help keep things organized and to divide up the work needed to make sure everyone stayed safe.
OOC DETAILS
Okay, so here's the thing, this is rp. And therefore we are taking some creative liberties with how realistic this will be. So please keep that in mind. If you have experience with hurricanes and any part of this is wildly unrealistic, please bear with us! lol
With that being said, please do not start hurricane threads or reference the hurricane in threads before Friday, Aug 30th. We're posting now so that people have time to plot in advance, but we also wanted to ensure that everyone had time to start just festival related threads first.
Since it is hurricane season in South Carolina, the town has long set out plans for hurricane warnings and the school has been prepared to be the gathering point in cases like this where large amounts of the Briar Ridge population aren't at home and can't get home easily. Therefore, the school is stocked up on supplies and tools to help secure the building and keep Briar Ridge citizens safe.
If you would like to say that your character was injured in the rush to get to the school, or becomes sick during the time that they are stuck in the school because of getting drenched by the cold rain, please run your idea by the admin team by sending an IM to the main! We can't have everyone incapacitated lol We also ask that you take into consideration your character's task (described in the next point & assigned in the discord server) before deciding on the extent of the injury, so as to avoid making it impossible for them to finish their task (I.e. please don't give your character a broken leg if they're going to have to walk around the whole school boarding up windows lol). Once we have approved your character being sick or injured, please make sure to use appropriate trigger warnings.
Every character will be paired up with one other character and given a task once they arrive at the school. Your character(s) can still interact with other people in the school, but we ask that each pairing give priority to and at least begin their task thread while the event is still ongoing.
These tasks can be as detailed as you would like to make them, we've listed some examples in the server of things your characters could do, but you don't strictly need to do that. If you think of something else within your assigned task category, please feel free to write it out instead!
Your task threads don't have to be long or last throughout the entire time everyone's stuck in the school. This is just a chance to get random characters to interact and hopefully get threads going with new writers!
The festival goers will be stuck at the school for 24 hours from when the hurricane warning was issued (unbeknownst to them of course!). If your character has family members, pets, etc. at home, feel free to include anxiety over their safety in your characters threads, but maybe there's someone else already taking care of them? We don't want to create REAL issues for your characters' loved ones!
After having been at the school for several hours, the electricity will go off at 10pm and won't come back on until mid morning the next day, a few hours before they're all allowed to go back home.
Please feel free to get creative with this! We're excited for this as we think it's a fun opportunity to pair up characters who might not have interacted otherwise even outside of the tasks!
If you have any questions, please direct them to the event channel in the discord server!

Trying to find out what neighborhoods lesbians hang out in a new city is a difficult task. If you try to search an article about it you’ll only get results for gay men. All of autostraddle’s queer girl city guides are from the 2010s. There needs to be resources for where to find us if we’re moving or visiting somewhere new. So I’ll start:
In the San Francisco Bay Area, lesbians live in:
Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco (generally NOT in the Castro, more often the Mission, Bernal Heights, Richmond/Sunset, and other northern/central neighborhoods)
Lesbians hang out in:
Bars: Mother Bar, El Rio (especially during the Mango dance party), Jolene’s (club atmosphere, controversial but seems to have improved in recent years), White Horse, Oakland Queer First Fridays, Queer Magic
Sports: Outloud Sports she/they kickball and dodgeball leagues, Queer Crush at any climbing gym, variety of queer hiking groups
Other: Sour Cherry Comics (queer comic book store with many events like gay gundam night), Dolores Park, any other city park
Feel free to add if I forgot anything!

While working on this post about California in 1987, I realized that the Lost Boys wouldn't stay at the boardwalk and in their cave all the time. They've probably visited other places like nightclubs, concerts and interesting events. They would definitely have to keep in mind how long it takes to get there though.
For example I can’t picture them driving all the way to Anaheim for a Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Foreigner and Loverboy concert (and yes, there actually was one on July 17, 1982 with them all). If they went it would’ve taken them about six hours just to get there, and that's if they don't get lost or stuck in traffic.
Another thing to keep in mind is that some concerts start at 7:00pm and others at 8:00pm. Depending on when it happens, such as in the summer there's also gonna be more daylight hours. According to this, the sunset on July 17, 1982 was at 8:26pm and sunrise was at 6:02am. With it taking about six hours to get there, they'd end up missing most of the show. They also wouldn't be able to make it back home in time either.
They could get a room and cover the windows, but usually with huge events like this, a lot of motels and hotels in the area get fully booked in advance. I don't think they would risk it, at least, not for events that are far away from Santa Carla.
So...this brings me to the purpose of this post. I want to make a extensive list of nearby concerts and events that they might've gone to. Ya know, before the Emerson family arrived or even before Star and Laddie joined them. I think it'd be fun to know and maybe one day I might write a story about them at a concert or something.
To start off I need an accurate time frame. In the novelization we learn that the events of The Lost Boys film takes place on the last month of summer, July, which is about 2-3 weeks before school starts. This is hinted at in a conversation Michael had with Lucy.
“Mom,” Michael began. “I think I’d like to get a job.” His mother looked up from the sink, a question in her eyes. She didn't ask it. "School's only a few weeks away", she mentioned.
In general, most public schools in California start the school year in mid to late August or early September. If we’re sticking to Santa Cruz as the basis for Santa Carla, that would mean the first day of school is in August. This is why my list starts with January 1, 1980 and ends at July 10, 1987.

LV, NV - Part 2
Tumblr media
As one with a complete disinterest in gambling, apart from an occasional flutter on “guess the correct score” – Las Vegas would not be a place I’d consider as a cultural paradise. Thankfully, having stayed in Paradise, the area of the Wynn-Encore at the northern end of the strip, I could discover more realistic cultural aspects to my liking. Having survived the first corporate function of the weekend on the Friday night, where my wife’s company held an incredibly decadent event at a nearby nightclub, where I made the most of the only place I’ll probably ever find measures of Macallan Single Malt to be free – I had all day Saturday to explore, before the next mystic reception.
Mrs Jones preferred a pool day, while I craved discovery. I can’t say that walking up – or down – the strip (highly confusing as Downtown was actually quite a way north from our base - so we travelled down the strip by up towards Downtown), past the other grand tacky resort hotels, I would say that not much other than the weather or overkill of everything was striking my inspiration buttons. Again, wandering among – occasionally dodging - the starry-eyed tourists, overdressed (or under-clothed) street entertainers; the only thing which stopped me in my tracks was a complete momentary chance realisation.
While passing each resort, moving south on the boulevard, I saw a group; maybe five or six people walking past me, wearing Tupac Shakur t-shirts. After a few steps, I wondered how far I was from the renowned block where he was shot in 1996. At that point of remembering what facts I could, I was convinced it would have been closer to midsummer, as my friend Lewis was only a block away and heard the shots, that year; then told me about it the day he returned, as we were both on our summer breaks from university. So, without Wi-Fi, I walked into The Cromwell casino bar to gain internet access. “Where was Tupac shot?” I typed. I scanned the first article which looked detailed on the results page, then read it and couldn’t believe what I found. Tupac was shot and killed on September the 7th, 1996; on the corner of East Flamingo Road and Koval Lane.
Tumblr media
Not only was I a couple of blocks away, while on East Flamingo Road, but it was September 7th, 2024. Twenty-eight years to the day. Was there a pilgrimage of fans, or even family or friends to remember him, that particular day? I’ll never know. This was quite a moment for me. While I had far more knowledge of Hip-Hop culture between the mid-eighties and earlier nineties, having grown up through that era before becoming immersed in House music culture from 1994 – it was one of the most significant happenings in the genre’s history from that decade and a controversial memory from my youth. On the previous afternoon, I’d eaten at El Segundo restaurant, near the Wynn and was served by; and talked at length with a guy who had moved from Oakland seven years previously. He told me the understandable reason why he left – the scarily unsafe way of life there. Also, he wasn’t the only person on the trip I’d met from Oakland, telling me the same thing. Shakur has had a street named after him in Oakland, after rising to fame while living there in the early nineties. Ironically having moved there to escape the crime in Baltimore.
These cultural aspects I mentioned, while staying in the Paradise area – certainly showed that it was no heavenly place, or soulful nirvana there; but in an abstract way, brought enlightenment and escape to people within the United States – and from outside the States. I loved the interaction with the Hispanic residents of Las Vegas, with the food options from Mexico proving so much better than the established and expected butter and oil-drenched options at fast food – and expensive hotels dotted everywhere I looked.
On that note, the topic of tips must be addressed. As a veteran hospitality worker, I have always supported a level of extra financial support for good service, Following the pandemic, bars and restaurants worldwide have been decimated in the service stakes, as retaining staff and the concept of good service – particularly noticeable in London, has been like trying to understand why the cost of living has been so absurd. You scratch your head and look around in bewilderment. Thus, in Vegas at this point; I hope that “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas from a financial, tip-related culture mentality. As it makes a night out in London seem like buying drinks at a Carmarthenshire rugby club. The choice between giving a 18%, 22% and 25% tip, the banal extra delivery charge of a sandwich at poolside, as well as the tip – and this is all before tax is even added! So when you see that the cheapest beer option is $12, you would not only be excused, but encouraged to make your eyes roll backwards so that you look like you’re fainting. It could be the only way of being carried out and escaping extra costs.
Hardly a shock, then that the corporate events booked for both Saturday and Sunday – when the word “free” applied to food and drink, both were welcomed with our open arms. It was also just reward for my wife and her work colleagues, whose tireless work in the health industry gives the NHS a hope, even if their clients are blind to their blood, sweat and tears for getting the job done – and even if the reward is over five thousand miles away, in an unrelated backdrop. With the complexity of staying at a huge hotel casino complex, pre-arranged meal functions and getting around Vegas while there was so much under our noses – we enjoyed as much as we could of the locality. Some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had (especially The Mystic at the Tower Suites Bar, a mezcal-based flamer – although definitely not free!), the hotel pool, weather and views of the city. As much as navigating the strip by foot was the more interesting way of discovering – a taxi was quicker.
Reminiscent, this was; along with the strip’s retro-classical architecture and definitely hand-in-hand with the cost of bar tourism in Doha; where I spent four years, and Dubai – its Emirati neighbour. By land, the distance between the two was similar to the distance between Vegas and the California state border. Although ‘inspiration’ would be an ill-fitted word for matching the Nevada city’s influence on the Gulf cities, bearing in mind the religious constitution versus sin city’s “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” dirty secret pact, but the Middle Eastern cities have certainly copied a fair few high-end hotels and the strip’s layout in their aim for five-star, money-making touristry. One aspect Vegas, assuredly does not have (and I doubt highly that it would commence on the strip in my lifetime) is the weekend brunch at the Qatari and Emirati hotels. Expats in the Gulf replaced Western pubs from their original homes on weekends for a four-to-five-hour session at the five-star hotels where plates and more so wine and beer glasses were never empty – and nobody apart from pregnant ladies or natives, left sober. I’d imagine the one person £90-120 average price for a Friday afternoon between midday and 4pm, at a hotel in Qatar or the UAE would quadruple, should these smash-ups ever be introduced to the strip.
Tumblr media
On Monday, despite having only limited time to do so, Mr and Mrs Jones travelled to the Arts District, on the edge of Downtown. It was something I’d wanted to have done over the weekend, as well as seeing more of Downtown, but as explained – everything took a while and seeing absolutely everything in four days, was impossible. Certainly, the antiques (in the American sense) shops, flea markets and places managed to fit in to four hours - added to time well spent on Main Street. Recycled Propaganda, Hop Nuts, Rebar and Able Baker were all places; with another few hours, we’d have happily spent more of our tourist time and money.
It was that half a working day, so separate to the Las Vegas Strip, where most of our long weekend was spent; which made me think “maybe I’ll be back, one day.” No gambling in sight, less extortion from the pocket and so much more undiscovered between there and the more renowned, seedy part of the city, where the older casino hotels such as Golden Gate and the Plaza (which was actually used as Biff’s in Back to the Future 2) are found. Plus, the conversations with local workers and the concierge at the Wynn, which mentioned little hidden gems on Fremont Street – reminded me that “everything takes a while”, so maybe another time.
Tumblr media
We returned to the airport, a bit Vegassed-out between the walking in forty degree heat for the fourth day and the free drinks which had by now, taxed our bodies. Yet, we were satisfied with our experience. With no seeming delays to the flight this time, plus a seat with no passenger in front of me, I was confident of gaining sleep on the way back to London. Now is the perfect time to use the American word for ‘spanner’. Monkey Wrench. I had one next to me and one in front of me, in the way of two men in couples. Next to me was one with a twitch in his right hand. I was asleep, then I was not. Asleep, then not. All through the flight. Nudged constantly by a guy with whom I could sympathise with whichever condition I can assume it could have been. Otherwise, were it not a nerve-related condition, he deserved John Cleese’s giant fish from the fish-slapping dance – firmly swung across his face for the trouble. As for the spanner in front, he and his wife decided to shift right, leaving the left seat in the aisle empty, occupying the two right seats for no apparent reason. So, when he woke me up by tilting the seat back and trapping my left calf from lack of legroom, I had to strongly inform him with an angry tone – that I had no space. Bloody spanners, bloody people, bloody airlines and their seats increasingly arranged for midgets.
Needless to say, the Joneses – on our drive back down the M23 to Hove – expressed excitement for our only piece of furniture which followed us back from Australia four years previously – a superking sized bed. We returned from Heathrow thankful that our little dog, Ella had enjoyed her weekend with a new dog-sitter and companion – and had confirmation number 2024 (roughly calculated in days) that the superking bed is the best thing we shipped back from Melbourne, apart from our two dogs. Hasta la vista, Vegas.

HEAR: Indie Rock | HotWax - ‘A Thousand Times’ EP
Tumblr media
HotWax just bursted on the scene with an incredible debut A Thousand Times EP that is WILD and absolutely captivating rock. Their grunge rock sound is reminiscent of early 90s rock but with much more OOMPF! Take a listen to their single “Mother” below: Acclaimed UK three-piece HotWax today announced their debut North American tour dates this fall in support of Royal Blood. The run will begin on November 9th at Los Angeles’ The Wiltern and take the band up the west coast and across the mid- and southwest before wrapping at San Diego’s The Sound on November 27th. “We are beyond excited to be supporting Royal Blood this November. We have grown up listening to their music and this opportunity is like a dream!” says the band. “To be playing America for the first time is insane, we feel so lucky.” A current itinerary is below and tickets will go on sale this Friday, June 2nd at 10am local time. HotWax–vocalist/guitarist Tallulah Sim-Savage, bassist/vocalist Lola Sam, and drummer Alfie Sayers–will be touring in support of their debut EP A Thousand Times, released May 19th(Marathon Artists) and which has garnered the young band praise from DORK (cover story), NME, Clash, Louder Than War, The Independent, The Times, and more. The band has also been getting early stateside nods around the EP and its singles (“Rip It Out,” the title track, “Treasure”) from Stereogum (‘Other albums of note’) and Brooklyn Vegan (“dose of grunge revival”), as well as radio play from influential stations like KEXP and WFUV. The five-track A Thousand Times was produced by Ben Beetham (of Kid Kapichi) and mixed by Mike Horner (Hot Chip, HMLTD, Deaf Havana). “The EP is a homage to mine and Lola’s relationship growing up together and the arguments we’d have a thousand times,” explains Sim-Savage. “The EP includes themes of guilt, love, climate change, womanhood, contraception, anxiety, and endings.” At just 18 years old, HotWax is already dominating local scenes in the southeast of England, completing a mini UK tour last month, support dates with Sad Boys Club and Cumgirl8, as well as stops at The Great Escape and Dot To Dot festivals. The band will also perform at a number of upcoming summer festivals, including Mad Cool, Visions, and All Points East (alongside The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs). HotWax’s rarified live energy and sound has already won the support of Courtney Love, Nova Twins, Wolf Alice, Jack Saunders, John Kennedy, and Matt Wilkinson. The band, who have only recently left school, harnesses the firepower of the grunge pioneers through songs armed with mighty choruses, and they possess the imaginative brilliance to stake out a new landscape in guitar music. The Pacific Flyway is a migration route for birds that stretches across North America. The route runs from Mexico to Alaska, and Alameda is one of its most important starting points. This means that many birds that fly from South America to Canada or even as far as Russia will stop here on their way through.
You can see this in action by visiting the Alameda Creek Regional Park on Sunday mornings between November 1st and April 30th; there are usually around 15 different species of bird in attendance at any given time!
Alameda has an active arts community and hosts several art events throughout the year.
Alameda has a rich history of art and culture. The city is home to numerous galleries, museums and performance venues, which showcase the work of local artists. Some artists have made Alameda their home, including painter Judith Gail Blumberg and sculptor Robert Arneson (a former professor at UC Davis).
The arts community here is vibrant and active: The Alameda Arts Council organizes annual events such as Art & Soul Weekend in May; Art Around Town every October; First Friday Art Walk in November; Festival Alameda in February; Open Studios Tour in April-May; plus many smaller events throughout the year!
This city has a rich history and many famous people.
Alameda has a rich history and many famous people have called it home over the years, including President Gerald Ford. The city's population is multicultural and diverse, with people from all over the world calling this small island home.
Alameda was founded in 1853 by Horace W. Carpentier as a landing for boats traveling between Oakland and San Francisco Bay. He named his town Alameda due to its location on an estuary of that name; however, there are other possible origins for the name (such as Spanish or Portuguese).
Alameda may seem like it would be too quiet
Alameda is a small island in the San Francisco Bay, about 10 square miles in size. It's known for having a laid-back lifestyle and great weather. If you're looking for an alternative to living in San Francisco with all its hustle and bustle, then Alameda may be more your speed!
There are lots of activities to do here: hiking, biking and walking along the waterfront are just some of them. And if you like food trucks (or even if you don't), this city has plenty of those too!

Headline Wembley Arena Show Announced For April 2022
New Postponed World Tour Dates Confirmed For Spring 2022
Louis Tomlinson today announces that he is partnering with BMG to release his second album globally.
Recording is already underway for the record, and Louis joins a roster at BMG that includes KSI, Craig David, Richard Ashcroft, The Prodigy and Kylie Minogue.
Louis says: "I’m very excited to start the next part of my journey with BMG.”
Jamie Nelson VP A&R at BMG UK says: "We are delighted to welcome Louis to BMG. He is already busy working on new music, and we are excited to join him on the next phase of his extraordinary career."
Louis also announces today the first wave of new 2022 dates for his postponed World Tour in UK, Europe, USA and Australia, including a brand new date at London's Wembley Arena. This show replaces Louis's two sold out London shows at The Roundhouse, and tickets will be transferred to the new venue.
Louis's first show at Wembley Arena will take place on April 22nd 2022, and extra tickets for the gig go on sale on Friday 14th May at 9am BST.
After postponing his 2020 world tour due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Louis will now finally get back on the road with his first solo tour, which is already completely sold out. The new dates are listed below. Further international rescheduled dates will be announced at a later date.
Last year, Louis released his million selling smash debut solo album 'Walls' which hit Top 3 in the UK and Top 10 in the USA. A lyrically personal album that proved he had found his feet as a solo artist, the album produced a clutch of acclaimed singles including the emotive first release Two of Us, the raucous Kill My Mind, the reflective We Made It.
In 2019 Louis headlined the Coca-Cola music festival in Madrid to an audience of 25,000 people, and performed to 65,000 fans at Premios Telehit in the Foro Sol stadium in Mexico City. Louis picked up the Best Song Award at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards for 'Two Of Us', which has so far hit over 100 million streams on Spotify alone.
In 2018 Louis won an iHeart Award for 'Best Solo Breakout', and an EMA Award for 'Best UK & Ireland Act' in 2017. He was ranked No.5 on Billboard’s emerging artists of 2018 and has over 60 million combined followers on social media. Last year he won 'Artist Of The Summer' in Philly radio station 96.5 TDY's annual awards.
In December 2020, Louis hosted one of the biggest live stream concert events of 2020, selling over 160,000 tickets to fans in over 100 countries and raising funds for several important charities. As a member of One Direction, Louis has sold over 100 million records. Overall Louis’ solo music has garnered over a BILLION streams.

Republic P-47G-10-CU Thunderbolt ‘225068 / WZ-D’ ”Snafu” (G-CDVX) by Alan Wilson Via Flickr: c/n 21953 Built in 1944 with the US military serial 42-25068. The P-47G was a P-47D built under license by Curtiss-Wright and this is one of only two surviving examples. She flew again in April 2012 and is painted in very authentic colour scheme representing a Thunderbolt of the 84th Fighter Squadron, part of the 78th Fighter Group based here at Duxford. She is seen landing after a practice display on the Friday before the 2012 Flying Legends Airshow. Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK. 29th June 2012 The following information on G-CDVX is from The Fighter Collection website:- "The Fighter Collection 'Razorback' P-47G is one of only two Curtiss-built examples left in the world. She was the 129th P-47G built at the Curtiss facility in Buffalo, New York in early 1944. The fighter was accepted by the USAAF in September 1944 and transferred to the Third Air Force at Tallahassee, Florida. It was here that she was re-designated as a TP-47G to reflect the training role she undertook with a number of Advanced Fighter Transition Units. Our P-47G was struck from the USAAF inventory in late June 1945 and was eventually passed to the Aero Industries Technical Institute at Oakland Airport, California. It was here that she taught hydraulic and electrical systems to aeronautical students until 1952 when she was bought by Jack Hardwick, a former Cleveland National Air Race pilot, who rented her out in 1953 to Allied Artists for ground scenes in the film Fighter Attack. Following her silver screen appearance she was parked up in El Monte, California, with a number of other World War Two aircraft until 1975 when she passed to a new owner who commenced a restoration of this rare machine. The work was not completed and the unfinished project passed to Ray Stutsman in late 1979 where a full restoration begun the following year which culminated in a first flight during April 1982, which was rewarded with the Grand Champion Warbird trophy at Oshkosh in July of that year. It flew with Stutsman at many events across North America until 1987 when she passed to the Lone Star Flight Museum, based at Galveston, Texas. She flew rarely during her time at Lone Star, when she passed to Flying A Services in the early 1990s and was shipped to the UK. The fighter remained in her shipping container until she joined The Fighter Collection fleet in 2006. A full restoration programme was undertaken in order to bring the P-47G back to stock wartime condition The scheme our P-47G wears is that of 84th Fighter Squadron P-47D 42-74742 - 'Snafu', the mount of Lt Severino B Calderon in late 1944."

With your hosts:
George Chen, Nick Stargu, Aviva Siegel and Land Smith-Abbinante!
SPECIAL GUESTS: Sad Vicious, Laura Weinbach and Cliff Hengst! Sad Vicious  - San Jose’s most hated band™, Sad Vicious boasts a pedigree of having played every good bar, club, and bar and grille in San Jose: Mickey’s Tavern, The Locker Room (closed), Om Ultralounge, Lucky Lil’s(closed), and Java Crossing, to name a few.  Sad Vicious is pumped to wreak havoc on SF Sketchfest and super pumped to see the other bands play.  It has always been our dream to play in Frisco. BTW, If anyone knows a bassist, drummer, or keyboard/efx musician, we need members NOW! Must be cool with partying, must be cool with cats=^.^=, must have own gear. Laura Weinbach - The Hollywood Hills-born daughter of a horror filmmaker and sister of a cult comedian, Foxtails front-girl Laura Weinbach grew up in a household that embraced eccentricity. Her next-door neighbors were circus contortionists with emus and fang-toothed monkeys as pets and her childhood activities included snail hunting and spying on celebrity neighbors like Slash, Ice-T, and Larry from Perfect Strangers. Laura’s upbringing is present everywhere in Foxtails Brigade, from the lyrical imagery to the hand-drawn artwork and sophomoric Instagram cartoons. The band’s live show is a clockwork of junkyard beats, warped orchestral sonics, and Laura’s trademark voice and classical guitar intricacies with an A-List ensemble featuring performing members of Bright Eyes, Van Dyke Parks, and John Kale.  The songs tackle subjects of substitute teaching in the Oakland and LA public school scenes, steak appreciation, and general unfairness awareness with a warped pop sensibility akin to influences like St. Vincent, Joanna Newsom, The Smiths, and Spoon.
Cliff Hengst - Cliff Hengst is an artist and performer, with a BFA from SFAI and current teaching position in the SFAI grad program. Hengst’s one-man play, "Mr. Akita" was recently performed at the Berkeley Art Museum as part of their Matrix program. He has exhibited his work at SFMOMA, Southern Exposure, The San Francisco Arts Commission and Gallery 16 in San Francisco. Hengst has performed and exhibited at Hauser & Wirth, Machine Project in Los Angeles and The Tang Museum at Skidmore College in New York, and most recently at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia. ============================================================
Talkies is the Bay Area's best unconventional, experimental, and multi-media live comedy event every first and third Friday on Zoom and Twitch (previously
in person at All Out Comedy Theater
in Oakland, CA). At Talkies, comedians, writers, improvisers, and performers work outside of their regular routines to push the boundaries of comedy; PowerPoint presentations, characters, and off-stage antics are the order of the day.
Started in the basement of San Francisco’s Lost Weekend Video, this show has been an incubator for many unique comedy talents spreading their wings on weird flights of fancy. Past guest performers have included Jamie Loftus, Ron Lynch, Myq Kaplan, Sad Vicious, Mary Mack, Johnny Pemberton, and Aparna Nancherla.
TALKIES is produced by Nick Stargu, Aviva Siegel, George Chen and Will Scovill.
