Jimin Achieves 'Gold Single' Certification in Canada for 'Like Crazy,' First Solo Korean Song in 10 Years

Jimin continues to showcase his formidable solo power in Canada, shining with global popularity.

Jimin's song 'Like Crazy' has received the 'Gold Single' certification from Music Canada (formerly known as the Canadian Recording Industry Association, CRIA), making it the first Korean solo song in the past 10 years to achieve this recognition after the organization's certification revamp.

Music Canada represents non-profit organizations in the music recording, manufacturing, and distribution industry in Canada. They classify albums based on digital and physical sales, as well as the equivalent scores (TEA), assigning grades such as gold, platinum, multi-platinum, and diamond.

'Like Crazy' recorded sales of over 40,000 units in Canada, earning it the Gold Single certification for a Korean solo song, an impressive achievement that crosses the boundaries and barriers of non-English music.

Previously, Jimin's album 'FACE' reached 10th place on the Canadian album chart, marking the first time a Korean solo album entered the top 10 in the past decade. The title track 'Like Crazy' debuted at 21st on the Billboard Canada Hot 100 and continued to chart for 4 consecutive weeks, predicting the remarkable feat of Gold certification.

Furthermore, along with 'Set Me Free Pt2,' Jimin achieved the feat of having two songs by a K-pop male artist chart simultaneously. He also set a record for the most charted songs by a Korean solo artist this year, with a total of 9 entries from 4 songs, including Hollywood blockbuster 'Fast & Furious 10' OST 'Angel Pt.1' and the collaboration track 'Vibe' with Taeyang.

In addition, Jimin's powerful solo influence was evident in 'Digital Song Sales,' where he charted a total of 10 songs, including all tracks from 'FACE' ('Like Crazy,' 'Set Me Free Pt2,' 'Face Off,' 'Alone,' 'Interlude: Dive') as well as 'Vibe,' 'With You,' 'Promise,' 'Christmas Love,' and 'Angel Pt.1.'

Hello everyone. It's been a while. I moved back to my hometown so i can study to re-enter uni exams next year. I've been trying to get used to studying but social media and stuff is really making me not focus on the stuff that i should be doing. I'm thinking of getting rid off every social media app that could distrupt me.

Other than that, I've been expanding my "playlists" a bit by exploring some of my favorite genres. Especially techno! I started to listen Arca's stuff. And everytime she amazes me with her beats. I cannot explain it, she really is a genius! I loved the track called "Time" from KiCK i. I also explored "Music Has The Right To Children" and "The Campfire Headphase" by Boards of Canada. I love how chilling they are. I listened to those while my way back home when I was in Istanbul. Techno music is the best! It makes me want to learn these stuff and make techno music myself.

I also recorded another speedpaint. I kinda have to do it for TikTok. I wanna create more stuff for TikTok but my motivation levels are always low. If I start it I'll probably wont finish it. My problem is also the fact that I wanna make it look pretty so the job becomes harder.

Did not talk about the character lol. My head is full of the other stuff that i just wrote. Maybe on a future post I'll talk about him.

I never knew until recently that the dub I watched back in India was very likely the SE Asian one. I just presumed it was British because of the accent, and because they retained the original songs and OST, which I knew the American one didn't. My mind was literally blown when you all mentioned the SE Asian dub.

That sounds about right! Usually, if a Western-produced English dub (usually an American one, but in rare cases Canada or the UK) exists, other Western countries will import that one. I'm not sure I've ever heard cases of the reverse happening where a Southeast Asian one will get used for a Western country, and Anglosphere/Western fanbases will usually tend to only acknowledge the Western one and keep better records/recordings of it while the Southeast Asian one remains mostly forgotten. Based on you mentioning India, I'm guessing you probably watched it on Animax?

I think the only time I've ever heard of a Southeast Asian anime dub gaining wide recognition in a Western-dominated Internet fanbase was an instance where the Southeast Asian dub was the only English dub that existed for a while, but eventually a Canadian-produced one was made -- one that, predictably, was way more derivative than the Southeast Asian-produced one, to the point of cutting episodes. Of course, it wasn't long before the Canadian one became the de facto "English dub" for that fandom even though it wasn't even the first one to exist!

To be fair, beyond just the Western-centric nature of fanbases, there's also the factor that Animax-commissioned English dubs usually tend to have much smaller budgets than their Western counterparts, so among those who know of said dubs there's a reputation for the voice acting being a lot more stiff, and even if there are fewer deliberate changes they can still be prone to accidental translation problems. So I definitely don't want to make a call on which dub is "better" because it's more of a give-and-take on which factors are most important to you, but nevertheless, there are definitely people for whom "the English dub of Digimon that I grew up with" is not the same as what the fanbase describes.

BTS’s V Becomes 1st Korean Solo Artist To Take No. 1 On Japan’s iTunes Top Songs Chart With Non-Japanese Track

BTS’s V has smashed another record with his self-composed “Itaewon Class” OST “Sweet Night”!

In July, “Sweet Night” become the track with the most No. 1s on the iTunes Top Songs charts around the world with 105 countries topped at the time.

On August 1, “Sweet Night” hit No. 1 on Japan’s iTunes Top Songs chart, which is known to be one of the hardest charts to top with a foreign track that is not promoted in Japan. V is now the first soloist in history to take the top spot on Japan’s iTunes Top Songs chart with a track released in Korea.

As of August 2, “Sweet Night” has topped the iTunes Top Songs chart in a total of 114 countries including eight of the 10 major music markets around the world: United States, Japan, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, and Brazil (iTunes does not service music in South Korea and China, the two other major music markets). The top 10 major music markets are based on the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI’s) Global Music Report 2020. According to World Music Awards, V is the first Asian soloist to hit No. 1 in all major iTunes music markets.

Dust Watched: Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Season 2 - The Eve of Awakening

They really should release the game globally so that I could have the appropriate emotions they’re expecting me to feel. (Also when they actually realise that there are countries besides Canada and the USA, I know, shocking that region locking your game and not advertising it sent it to the junkyard in mere months).

I’m going to be honest, I probably should’ve watched the recaps before watching this season because it sometimes took me half the season to realise that I’ve been confusing X character with Y character that whole time. But that’s not an excuse, to be honest. Unfortunately(?), probably half of the memory space in my brain is taken up by anime. I obviously can’t remember the slightest of details years later but S01 of Magia Record came out a year ago and I already couldn’t remember half of what happened in that season. Well, there’s a short plot about Iroha in the first half with Yachiyo and Kuroe (someone from the Wings of Magius) taking the center stage. With the limited cast and easy objective, this half of the anime was quite great and made me expect great things moving forward but Magia Record threw those expectations back in my face. The second half of the anime concerns the Wings of Magius and their big plot for how they’re going to make it so no magical girls turn into Witches. There’s some exposition dumping, a bunch of characters I’ve forgotten about from S01 show up and the issue is resolved in a very... anticlimactic fashion. Add the fact that this is going to be a triology thus making this the always weakest “in-between-story-set-up” installment and you basically have an anime that’s not worth watching by itself.

As I mentioned above, the majority of characters I was supposed to feel very strongly about (according to this anime anyway) I didn’t because I straight up couldn’t remember who was who. I know that the mobile game is a gacha and that means a shitton of characters but this is a SHORT anime. I’m also very much aware that fans of the mobile game would be throwing a fit if their faves were left out but dude... this is chaotic. Upon rereading my review of S01, it seems these characters barely had any meaningful screentime in that season either so it’s no wonder I don’t recall them. Imagine how awkward I felt when I thought a character was a prominent figure in the Wings of Magius only to find out during a conversation that she was one of the main cast in S01. Oops.

Now, I know I’m going to be reviewing a lot of anime that most likely has been heavily affected by the pandemic but the art and animation’s downgrade in Magia Record S01 is... very noticable. The problem is that this anime is already compared to PMMM which some even call a masterpiece. Season 1 was already a bit of a downgrade from that and THIS season is even more. The background and enviromental design stayed the most consistent and the characters the least, especially in far-away shots where they resemble stick figures. And PMMM/Magia Record likes to use the method where they zoom in and out constantly so the difference is even more jarring. There are a few fight scenes that they heavily focused on but while they’re very detailed, they suffer from choppiness due to the low framerate. To the point where I literally had no clue what was happening during a fight scene. No, no, no... I would rather they spread the budget out than focused on a handful of sequences.

The OP and ED are quite great although they don’t stand out much. I thought the OST was pretty good as well but then Kalafina’s “Magia” started playing for like 10 seconds and I relaized that, yeah, it could be better.

Don’t watch this anime until the last season is out!!! I realize now that the whole of Magia Record is supposed to be binged or you won’t know wtf is going on. This season also ended on a really important cliffhanger (you won’t remember what it was a year from now). I’m honestly quite sad cause I was looking forward to this sequel but when I saw that it was only going to have 8 episodes, I already knew we were fucked.

after years of digging as deep as i could into vaporwave this record still sands as one of my dearest records of all times, so many memories and so many hours of tranquility. HKE and telepath will probably always be my favorite vaporwave producers. 

4|  Monolake ‎– Interstate (1999)

Love this album. Never gets boring, rhythms sometimes get peculiar and  fascinating, tbh in addition to great textures. I respect Monolake a lot, and they’ve been a big part of my musical background. Cool fun fact is that I listened to that album during my first ever shroom trip. Laying down on a couch, sound blasting and we projected a video of a gopro walk in tokyo, and exactly when Terminal’s drop hit with the ethereal sweeps the dude passed a vegetable museum with big blue flashing lights that went from left to right. cool as fuck and way ahead of its time, shit i mean they did create ableton, they made that record out of comodore 64s, damn.

absolute blast. like handrolled hash they took some basic channel tracks that were god tier enough and made a concentrate. this shit just fucking slap. say sum smart , arranging multiple tracks makes it less minimalistic, but more headwrecking and i guess even more dance friendly.

He gives her a pointed look but she rolls her eyes- her brother would do anything to prove her wrong.

"What's your name again, young man?", Philip asks the boy in front of the desk as he enters the reception desk with a notepad. "To remember your plea."

"Territorial feuds are the reason why dad got arrested", America crosses her arms, pursing her lips at the memory. "Alright, what's the recent news of the mobs?"

The young boy touches the part of his father's head pouring out the strange red liquid; it was thick and somewhat slimy, and it crawls onto his hands and clothes with a sense of vengeance. He hears Eomma scream from somewhere ahead of them and feels himself being scooped up by familiar warm arms. He struggles against her strong arms, shouting and kicking and getting the liquid from Jeguk's body into her sleeves. He needs to be there for his father when he wakes up, he needs to tell him what has happened.

"We need to leave now, Nabi", Imsi says, carrying Inmin's small frame, his younger brother looking at Appa's body with wide eyes.

A small tsk tsk tsk starts to sound from in front of them, and a man kicks Jeguk's slumbering body away from them both. Minguk feels anger inside of him as he lets go of his mother - he hears her shout at him to go back to her arms - and to the towering and standing man above him.

"Oh Chōsen.", the bad man says, snickering and smirking all the way, looking at his mother. "You have no idea how much I wanted to do this."

"Jeguk paid his debt!", Eomma says through choked sobs, still looking at his father's body like she has just lost something dear to her. "Why would you do this?!"

Teikoku shrugs, as he looks at Minguk with those empty, gray eyes, before smiling maliciously back at Eomma. "For entertainment; I've been bored these past few weeks, and I figured I needed something to enlighten me."

"By killing my husband?! Putting my family in danger?!" She scoops up Minguk from where he was standing and he did not fight, as he feels his mother's heartbeat quicken.

"It doesn't have to be like this." The man steps on Appa's corpse like it was just a bump in the road, a speed bump and Minguk doesn't like it as he grits his teeth. He wants to fight him, he really does.

He pulls Minguk away from Eomma, who was now reaching for him with a small plea in her face, but Teikoku kicks Minguk away like a small animal. He starts to cry as he feels the rocky ashphalt come contact with his face and he feels two arms scoop him up, and now he is with Inmin. He massages the gash on his cheek as he looks at Eomma and Teikoku in horror.

Teikoku pulls Eomma up, her frame shaking as he puts his arms around her waist and pulls her closer into her. Eomma's eyes widen as she hears him speak and starts to cry even more than before, with uncle shaking his head.

"Nabi, don't- AGH!" Another bang sounds from the gun Teikoku was holding, straight through Imsi's shoulder, as he drops both Inmin and Minguk to the crowd, with both of them embracing each other for comfort. His ears were ringing from the loud sound, heart racing, as he closes his eyes.

When his eyes open, Eomma and the bad man were not there anymore.

Philip hands Minguk a tissue as he finishes his story, tears streaming down his face like a river with a thousand currents, the tear drops dripping into his jacket like rain in the most calming of mornings before it turns to solemn ones as the clouds go grey and dark as night, no sun to help them survive. In front of his window are a swarm of butterflies, seemingly looking at him with those little delicate wings of theirs.
