frustrate how many advocates & groups & companies & even non profit organizations who advocate for AAC users / people who can’t or can’t only use speech / etc are like:
“terms we do not use: no nonverbal, no severe, no profound, no disorder, no impairment” and go on say is because these words “factually incorrect”
so no me, no my friends, no friends with rigid think or struggle with change words or remember change words or idk, language communication disorders that goes beyond speech that affect all words all communication or even nonverbal communication?
okay not like those words for self. okay even not use in advocacy and say “hey am/know many don’t like this term because __ so use different term” but need need add say in words that some people do like these words for self.
but. not okay say these words all wrong inherent wrong and force us (who you should be include in your advocacy) chase down everyone and correct (which. not everyone able do. you of all people should know.) and say actually some do like these some find it accurate for self and be called ableist and wrong and be silenced told shut up.
even “own group” want erase us
“nothing abt us without us” yeah you kind of doing the without us part

Hey guys. I’m home and safe under my blankies. I just started a new job. And if you can believe it, it’s still going better than the Vocational Training Coordinator at Goodwill. Never take that job, people. Never ever do that to yourself. They are good people there, very good people, but it’s a black BLACK hole

Some days I miss working...like not at all in the hideously capitalist "ough I am worthless if I can't Perform Labor" way, but in the "I miss getting out of the house on a schedule and interacting with people" way. But the opportunities for someone who's sufficiently disabled that I could probably work 4 hours every other day without harming myself are pretty non-existent, so that just doesn't happen.

Reblog to circulate post on Tumblr
I'm uncertain if there's a way to save this non profit but I'd like to encourage us all to try. We already lost another this past year 'Body Politic' because they did not get the financial supported needed to continue, which included expansion to be able to operate well.
Part of building community and a better future involves investing. And we cannot hope to have resources, infrastructure and responses to meet the progressive derailing and degrading conditions and societies around us without doing so.
It requires time, energy, heart and sometimes yes, money. The more we put into projects like this, local and small companies, sustainability, kindness, deconstructing & decolonization and less of ourselves and resources into people, organizations and projects that do not care about us or are harming us, we actually have a road to the bright possibilities we hope and speak of so beautifully.

I've been doing reception work at a dv and sa shelter for the last month and on one hand it's nice to be in a non-profit org, but on the other, it sucks to see how little we can actually do. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great org and we *do* help people, but there's so few resources that we can't help everyone, regardless of reasons.
It's also heartening to see how many folks do want to help with resources, but it's the wrong kind of resources...

Greater Good For Cancer Research
The eMpTy Vs is honored to be apart of this June 1st. fundraiser benefiting the V Foundation for Cancer Research! I am amazed by this man's attitude and willingness to not give up but live life to its fullest before he leaves us. I am so grateful to have him in my life for what he has left.

In Gaza, journalists are passing out from exhaustion and famine. Despite the ICJ ruling, the US and Australia are intentionally defunding UNWRA based on baseless claims by Israel that members of the aid group are Hamas-sympathizers. Netanyahu, of course, has ignored the ICJ ruling. Israel has banned insulin pens from arriving in Gaza, a particularly cruel and inhumane crime to add to their laundry list of offences. Nothing has changed, and things are getting worse.
It is not that hard to not buy things. To not watch things. Perhaps it is inconvenient, and makes you go out of your way, and costs a little more to buy alternatives. But if you were to attend a funeral a day for every child that has died in Gaza so far, it would take you over 27 years. When the worst that will happen to you is that you don't watch a TV show featuring a zionist, you don't buy a specific brand that donates to and supports zionism, how could that possibly compare to the plight of Palestinians who must amputate limbs without anesthesia?
Once again, this is the BDS list of brands to boycott.
Here is a comprehensive post about more actions you can take in support of Palestine.
Here is a list of verifiable orgs that provide aid on the ground.
credible organisations that are doing work on the ground in Palestine:
Care for Gaza:non-profit charity that distributes money, food and other resources directly to families in Gaza. They maintain a regular presence on Twitter and Instagram. You can donate to them via Paypal here.
PCRF / Palestine Children's Relief Fund: non-profit organisation that distributes essential food and resources to families in Gaza. Most recently, they delivered 30 tons of vital medicine, and 82,000 pounds of flour.
Medical Aid For Palestinians: deploys medical teams to treat Palestinians suffering under Israel's malicious bombardments.
Donate e-sims to Palestine: massive post with tutorials and relevant links, with discount codes included in the post and in the replies.
Direct Aid: humanitarian fund distributing supplies such as blankets and winter jackets directly to Palestinian families.
help people leave palestine (donate what you can)
Help a Family Evacuate Gaza (GoGetFunding)
Save Sanaa and her Family (Gofundme)
Save Amjad Saher and his family (Gofundme)
Help a family of 13 escape Gaza (Gofundme)
Help a Palestinian children's book illustrator save her family of 12 (Gofundme)
Today, tomorrow and until Israel faces justice for their crimes, learn how to prioritise Palestine over your own comfort.
