How would the Battletech universe deal with things like an Armored Core? Specifically NEXTs from Armored Core 4/For Answer? You can also answer for the standard ACs of Armored Core 1 through Armored Core 3: Last Raven as well.

(OOC: Okay @kiwi-kuns-art-tumb! So, been a bit, but I wanted to consult with all my friends who are much bigger Armored Core nerds (affectionate) than me. I'm going to break this down into the original question, and the follow up. Caveat that this depends on how exactly you meant your original question.

Did you mean "how do individual Battlemechs stack up to a NEXT"? The answer is, according to my friends, they don't. "A Battlemech essentially amounts of a particularly spicy MT," says my BF.

However, in terms of how the BT universe would deal with (read: kill) a single NEXT, the short answer is (to again quote my BF): "There's no way that any BT force can match the PA [Primal Armor], devastating speed, and sheer firepower of a NEXT without a cost-ineffective amount of resources, so the most tactically viable option would likely be WMDs, or orbital bombardment. A NEXT would essentially have the same limitations of any other ultimate weapon at the tactical level: it's undefeatable in its own playing field, but it can't counter a move on the strategic scale." Several other friends pointed out that conventional, non-orbital artillery might also work against them.

In terms of the BT universe as a whole going against any of the AC universes: BT takes it every time, "by simple matter of scale. Only in AC6 has it ever been implied that humanity is on more than 2 planets."

In terms of your follow up about standard ACs from Gen 1-3, the general consensus was "they are defeatable more easily than a NEXT". However, there was more debate here with the NEXTs, centered around just how the size, speed, and firepower of said "Normals" compared to a Battlemech.

Some took the stance that, quote, "Non-NEXT ACs are really just a LAM that actually works; you could take them a lot easier," and "With a Normal, the consideration is really only the speed and firepower, both of which could be sufficiently matched by experienced pilots or significant numbers." Others said, "Early gen AC are probably inferior to a Battlemech; closer to Protomechs in form and function... 1st-3rd gen ACs are really small; and speed only gets up there in limited cases." So it more became a debate on "how easy would it be to defeat them?" and less "can they be defeated?" to which the answer was "yes".
