Il sole stava calando dietro le cime degli edifici, lanciando sfumature di rosso e arancione nel cielo. Sul tetto dell'edificio abbandonato, due ragazzi si tenevano in piedi con il vento freddo della sera tra i capelli.

Nick fissava il tramonto, le mani infilate nelle tasche della giacca sbiadita. Era alto e magro, con i capelli corti e gli occhi che sembravano trattenere un segreto. Al suo fianco, Edo, più piccolo ma dal viso determinato, sfoggiava una giacca di pelle logora.

Non avevano molto da dire, ma c'era un'intesa silenziosa tra loro. Erano fuggiti dalla monotonia della vita quotidiana, cercando qualcosa di più, qualcosa di diverso. Avevano scelto questo vecchio edificio, una sorta di monumento decadente, come loro rifugio. Una fuga dalla realtà, una ribellione silenziosa.

"Guarda là", disse Edo, indicando l'orizzonte. "Sembrano pennellate di un pittore ubriaco."

Nick annuì, senza staccare gli occhi dal cielo in fiamme. "È strano come il mondo possa sembrare diverso da quassù."

Si sedettero sul bordo del tetto, le gambe penzoloni nel vuoto. L'asfalto disegnava la città sotto di loro come un mosaico di luci tremolanti. Il suono della città notturna si faceva sentire lontano, come un sottofondo costante.

Edo tirò fuori una sigaretta dal pacchetto sgualcito e la accese offrendone una a Nick. Fumarono in silenzio, osservando la luce del giorno svanire gradualmente.

"Che ci fai qui, Nick?" chiese Edo alla fine, rompendo l'assenza di parole.

Nick esalò il fumo lentamente. "Sto cercando di capire cosa voglio dalla vita. E tu?"

Edo sorrise debolmente. "Stesso motivo, suppongo. Solo qui sembra che tutto abbia più senso, anche se so che è solo un'illusione."

I loro sguardi si incrociarono per un istante, e capirono. Quel tetto, privo di barriere, era una metafora della loro vita in quel momento. Senza regole, senza confini.

"Abbiamo bisogno di qualcosa di nuovo, Edo. Qualcosa di più grande di noi stessi", disse Nick, fissando l'orizzonte ora oscurato dalla notte.

Edo annuì, la città sotto di loro si animava sempre di più. "Forse è ora di iniziare a cercare."

Si alzarono in piedi, guardando l'infinito davanti a loro. I due ragazzi, in bilico tra il passato e il futuro, senza paura di cadere.

I think it’s safe to say that he already has a dog of his own.

However if he wants to get a pet with you it could possibly be another dog, but probably a small one that’s fluffy.

Or he might get a pet bird, like a little finch since they are not too much work and plus he thought they were cute at the store.

You two don’t plan on getting a pet.

It’s really that he buys you one as a gift and so it’s really yours but also becomes his.

If he got you a cute little dog that looks like Teddy bear he was probably replaced and he got jealous.

But not too jealous lol. Just a little bummed out. “I think she likes the dog more than me.”

If the dog is a girl and it’s yappy and small he’ll say it reminds him of you.

He’s that guy that has many reptiles.

It’s concerning.

Like there’s no way he doesn’t have an iguana, snake/lizard, as well as a frog and a turtle.

If you’re too freaked out by it the pets he might give them away.

All though it you two are cool with it he will probably get a chameleon.

Although if you're not good with pets that are reptiles, he would probably get a cat with you.

He might even like getting a parrot.

He pretty much would find any pet cool to have.

Knowing Zeke, he’d go as far as adopting a monkey.

Overall any pet you’d get would definitely be out of the ordinary.
