a/n: wow! this is a lil emotional! i hope you love it like i do. also, this isn't proof read.

it'd been four years. it'd been four whole years since you felt the company of your comrades, no, your friends. the day you were taken still burned sharply in the back of your mind, replaying on an endless loop, constantly reminding you of the last day you were happy. there was no forgetting the devastated looks, their faces twisting and contorting with fear. the sounds of their panicked shouts fading into the distance. the most haunting thing of all your brain tortured you with was the feeling of jean's fingertips slipping away from yours.

things like that weren't so easily forgotten, especially from the confinement of your cell. at the end of the day, you were grateful. you were grateful to still have your life, no matter how miserable it might have been. the cell you stayed in was dim, cold and all too quiet. it was the perfect breeding ground for your trauma, festering day and night. of course, there was a time you weren't as grateful; you'd rather have died then reside in marley for whatever time you might have had left. you were angry. you were angry at reiner, at marley, at the scouts for not being successful in their attempts to rescue you. there was fear residing there, too. were your friends alive? where was eren? did they know what you knew? did they know about the cruelty of the world?

eventually, reiner became somebody different. you no longer saw him as the traitor as he once was. you grew to understand him, your resentment eventually fading away. he'd come down most days and visit you. he taught you a lot of things about marley and about paradis. reiner would tell you about the world away from your cell, about things that were happening outside.

the day came where reiner told you that willy tybur, an eldian noble, was going to declare war on your homeland. he seemed remorseful to be telling you this. you screamed at him, begging him to interfere all while reminding him he was once a soldier, too. he ignored your pleas and left you a pacing mess in your cell.

not long after reiner's disappearance, a blond male soldier stopped by your cell. the soldier said nothing as he fumbled around in his pockets before pulling out a set of keys. he unlocked the door as you asked a thousand questions, raising your voice with each word. he said nothing. like reiner, he left without a word.

the sound of eren's titan echoed through the air, shaking the ceiling and causing bits of rock to fall. you thought you were hallucinating, your brain playing another sick trick on you. you heard it again with booms following right behind it. praying on the chance it was real, that eren was really here, your legs took off, your calves burning with each swift movement.

above ground was a nightmare coming to life. the sky was dark. there were no stars to see, the only light from the raging fires. the attack titan's silhouette was visible, muscles rippling as he pounded another titan. there were so many emotions running through the track of your mind but there was one thought that stood out apart from the rest.

if eren was here, were the scouts here too?

then, you heard it. the unmistakable sound of odm gear being launched through the air. anxiety brewed deep within you, letting you know this might be your one chance to go home, begging you to not let it slip away the way jean had let you. tilting your head up to the sky, you saw them. the scouts, in a different uniform than you remembered, were zipping through the air with utter grace. they were angels compared to the relentless war behind them. you wanted to cheer; your saviors were here, at last. you opened your mouth, filling your diaphragm with all the air it would let you and you screamed. you screamed as loud as you could.

"help! it's me, (y/n)!" it was the only thing that came to your mind. you thought your efforts were useless, barely being able to hear yourself over the screams of men, women, and children. the fight between of titans covering up your futile attempts at a rescue. you were about to yell again when you felt an arm snake around you.

the air was cold, an unwelcoming breeze, as you flew through the air with an unknown liberator. your eyes closed as the harsh wind hit them. you'd long forgotten what it was like to be a scout. once being able to zip effortlessly through your environment, you found yourself taken back. the arm on your waist was warm and you reveled in the heat, despite the chilled air around you.

your flight came to an end and only then did you open your eyes. with wide eyes, you blinked, taking in your surroundings. you were on a rooftop now. you centered your eyes in front of you.

"(y/n?)" his voice is choked, barely getting through your name.

jean kirstein.

tears brimming in your eyes like a dam threatening to break, you had let out a guttural cry. the next word out of your mouth was much softer than the sound you'd just made. "jean." you whisper. jean didn't move as water collected in his eyes, spilling over and running down his face. "jean." he nodded his head, at a loss of words. his mouth opened but only the sound of war was heard. jean shook his head and lunged forward, engulfing you in an embrace you thought you'd never feel again.

jean's shoulders were shaking with sobs and the battle behind was long forgotten. jean was no longer a soldier; he was healing. the wounds you'd left had never closed. they were deep gashes all over his body, aching to feel you, to hear you at any given moment. with a single embrace, he felt them closing.

his palm cradled the back of your head, the other wrapped around the entirety of your back. there was nothing said here as you two breathed each other in, finding the love that was once lost with each breath. jean's voice was quiet in your ears.

"i'm sorry," his breath was warm as it poured over the side of your neck. "i'm sorry." jean repeated.

you found it within you to pull away from his arms. you could see him now. you could really see him now. you could see how the four years had hardened him. the only thing that was the same was his eyes. it was the same way he had looked at you back then. his eyebrows twitch with concern, awaiting your next word, scanning your face for a hint.

your mouth fell open, desperately begging you to say something, to say anything at all. the sound of your cry was barely heard over the explosions of thunderspears; your tongue failing you with words once again.

"i know, baby."

you rushed forward, meeting him once again in an embrace. your head became wet with his tears as yours dampened his neck. jean's arms tightened as he let out a shaky breath. "i'm here, baby. you're here with me, at last."

Just making myself sad dw about it.

Has anyone ever thought about the whole Zeke and his euthanasia plan thing in a different manner? About how this poor boy grew into the man we get to see while constantly drilling into himself the knowledge that building a family is nothing short of pain, abandonment and disappointment. Passing through life, making sure he himself knew that he had no chance at a normal life. And I find that beyond sad, for I know he would have been a good father- given what he has been through. He would have made sure to never allow his child to feel as pressured into things as his father made him feel, and he would've done everything in his power so that said child would not feel unwanted- not even for a second.

I find it sad, because just like almost everyone we get to see, he did not have the chance to live a normal life. Knew damn well he would not be allowed to grow fond of people, to fall in love, to grow with someone in any manner other than a collegial one.

So yes, he was aware of what he was getting into, he was sure he wished to continue Tom Ksaver’s legacy and fulfill his vision, but what about what could’ve been? What about the life he might have had had he been allowed to grow like any normal child- What if in the back of his mind there is the tiniest of boxes that contains the smallest of wishes he had in this cruel life?

Becoming a father. Growing old by someone’s side, and watching as he broke the horrid chain Grisha had wrapped around his throat. Holding his newborn with a smile the sky and the sun and the whole world had never before seen- simply there...on his lips. Hearing his child’s laughter echo through the peaceful and safe home he’d created for his family. Watching it grow and mature and exhibit his and his partner’s behaviors. Something that would melt anyone’s heart. Seeing the innocent eyes of the beautiful life he’d brought into this world, unaffected by war and hate and pain and suffering.

Maybe in the couple of moments he had up there, attached to the reminder of his brother’s betrayal, he thought of that. Even if just for a split second, he thought… he wondered…and he remembered he was never meant to have a happy ending.

Reasons why modern Aot characters would be grounded and what their punishment would be (also what the Aot vets would do for punishment)

Eren: He definitely got into a fight at school and the office called his mom to pick him up early. He didn’t get suspended but his mom was pissed and yelled at him. After they argued she decided to punish him with no video games for a month. Also his mom had him clean the bathroom/ toilet for a month.

Mikasa: Another fight. She got in a fight with Annie but it was a really bad fight. Annie had bruises everywhere, cuts, a black eye, and had to get stitches on her lip. Mikasa had like 3 bruises, a cut on her hand, knee, elbow, and shin. Not really bad cuts though. Annie was suspended for 3 days and Mikasa was suspended for 1 week. If Carla was punishing her, she would have Mikasa grounded for 3 weeks and have her do all the laundry. (She never punished Mikasa as hard as Eren when it came to fights since she almost never got into fights)

Armin: He got grounded because in math class he said “you know no one actually likes you. You’re just a jerk who so insecure about your self that you try to prey on people weaker than you. Also you’re overall just asshole who everyone hates. That’s why you’re girlfriends cheating on you with (the assholes best friends name)” all because he made Eren cry when they called him a ‘fucking looser who should just k*ll themselves cause he has no friends and is gonna be alone for ever.’ And that same day Armin fought someone ‘cause while he was trying to beak up a fight Eren was in and the other person took a swing at him, so he grabbed a textbook out of his backpack and hit the guy on his head with it knocking him out. Armins parents punished him by not allowing to study at the library or at school for a week (he’d be at the library or school since he couldn’t focus with his dad and grandpa watching National Geographic really loud) but his grandpa would bring Armin snacks when he’d be having really late study nights in his room.

Sasha: She was grounded for starting a food fight by throwing an apple at Jean but missing and hitting someone else then fighting the person she hit and ended up pulling out a huge chunk of the persons hair since she pulls hair when she fights and didn’t know the girl had extensions attached to her hair and she had weak hair so when Sasha pulled a handful of her extensions she also pulled out a handful of the girls hair. Her parents grounded her and made her help her dad clean his truck that he hasn’t cleaned in 10 years and is so gross they’ve found a dead rat in there one time and the occasional animal remains from hunting.

Connie: He made a teacher cry when he made a ‘yo mama’ joke saying “yo mama so fat she gave Dracula high cholesterol.” Not knowing that the teachers mom died a month ago from a stroke caused by her weight. He got suspended and his parents grounded him for 3 weeks and didn’t allow him to go out with friends and made him play with his younger siblings when they would ask him to.

Jean: He got in trouble for leaving the class he had right before lunch and the last class he had before school got out, early every day for a month so he could get to Mikasa before Eren and hang out with his friends as soon as possible. His mom didn’t punish him that hard. Just no video games and no going out with friends for a week.

Historia: She’s never suspended or in trouble but got grounded by her parents for a month because she got a B on one of her tests. She also wasn’t aloud to hang out with Yumir at school and since she already couldn’t hangout with her after school she was pissed she couldn’t hangout with Yumir during school. (She still hung out with Yumir at school but only during passing periods)

Yumir: tbh idk what to do for her since I don’t think she has parents if she did I don’t think she’d have good parents and i don’t think they’d pay attention to her at all so she never gets grounded. But Historia being grounded and any detention she gets is punishment enough in her mind.

Reiner: He got into a “small” fight and broke the kids nose so his parents where yelling at him and decided to make him do everything for them such as clean, cook, fix the fence they had in the backyard, fix the window, etc. for a month and not let him take a break. They also took his phone so he couldn’t really vent to his friends, his mom would manipulate him to make him think what she’s doing for him is good,and every time Reiner would have a break down his mom would make his dad peel himself off the couch or away from his work with a beer in hand and yell at Reiner saying “THIS IS MY FUCKING HOUSE AND YOU NEED TO MAN THE FUCK UP AND NOT BE A FUCKING PUSSY! YOURE BEING AN ANNOYING PEICE OF SHIT AND RUINING THE QUIET PEACEFUL NIGHT ME AND YOUR MOTHER WANT! AND FIX THE FUCKING FENCE! I DONT GIVE A SHIT THAT YOU JUST FIXED IT! IT BROKE SO FIX IT AGAIN!” (His dad threw his hammer through the fence after he accidentally hit his hand while nailing something) Needless to say that month his mental health went 📉

Bertolt: tbh he’s probably such a good kid he never gets grounded. The most he gets is a “time out” and screamed at by his dad.

Now here is what I think the Aot vets would do for punishments

Erwin: he’s the typical “go to your room” and does nothing else kinda guy.

Levi: if you piss this man off he will stack up your chores and be extra picky deciding if something’s clean or not. He doesn’t yell he’ll just go “does this look clean to you? No. It’s not clean. Keep going.” Until it’s spotless. And if you only have like 4 chores he’ll stack it up to like 7 or 8 chores. He doesn’t really do much else.

Hange: Just sends you to your room. If you get in a fight though they’ll definitely be asking for the details, pictures, videos, and want to know all about it.

Miche: doesn’t really do anything and sees the stuff you do as a learning experience or if it’s something like you having detention or getting suspended he just says “well you needed a break from school anyways. You’ve seemed really stressed so i guess it’s good you don’t have to go to school and can rest.”

eren jaeger - tomatoes. man can’t even enjoy spaghetti.

armin arlert- typical pollen allergy, certain flowers make it worse.

mikasa ackerman- also a pollen allergy, maybe pine. it’s tolerable, though.

jean kirstein- very mild allergy to strawberries. which sucks because he really likes them. he can have a few but he has to be careful.

connie springer- my boy’s got a peanut allergy. also the type to eat a resees and immediately stab himself with an epi-pen.

sasha braus- allergic to cats, which is really upsetting to her. she deals with it. itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing but she doesn’t care, she’s petting that little baby.

reiner braun- he’s allergic to bees!!! he’s deathly afraid of them for a good reason.

bertholdt hoover- he has bad reactions to mosquito bites. they swell A LOT.

levi ackerman- dust and mold. obviously.

erwin smith- he’s also allergic to cats but it doesn’t bother him because he’s not the biggest fan of them.

Attack on Titan 2023 Secret Santa Fic Exchange Event!

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Attack on Titan 2023 Secret Santa Fic Exchange Event! :D If you would like to participate in this event, please read the rules and guidelines listed below, and fill out the form linked at the end of this post! 

Guidelines:

- The form will be open until November 19th at midnight, and then Secret Santas will be assigned and sent out! Following Secret Santa assignments, you will have a little over a month to post your fic for your Secret Santa recipient, as all fics should be posted between December 24th and December 31st. 

- On November 20th I will assign Secret Santas, and most participants will be messaged through this account (@shxtodxroki) with their assigned recipient as well as any further details from their recipient’s form. However, because I will be participating myself and it would feel strange to assign someone to write for me specifically, I will be having someone close to me sorting and assigning a small section of participants, so you may receive your message explaining your assigned recipient from a different blog, which I will clarify on the 20th, instead.

- Once you receive your fic recipient you will be expected to create a fic for them and have said fic posted to your blog between the 24th and 31st of December. If dropping out becomes necessary (as I understand we all have emergencies and real life absolutely takes precedence over Tumblr) then you are expected to notify me as soon as possible of your withdrawal so that I can find someone to fill the position of Secret Santa for your recipient. 

- You will also be expected to send anonymous asks to your recipient at least once a week as their Secret Santa. You may message them anonymously as often as you want, though it is important that you do not reveal your identity until you post your finished fic. The goal of these anonymous asks is just to help recipients for a bit of a bond with their Secret Santas, and hopefully create a sense of community within this event!

There are also a few rules regarding the fic you create for your assigned recipient, which are listed below:

Rules:

- In the event application form, each participant gets to choose whether or not they’re comfortable with Christmas themes being present in their fic, as I understand that not everyone who wishes to participate in this event may celebrate Christmas. If your recipient does not wish to receive a fic with any Christmas-related themes then you will be told so in the recipient assignment message you receive, and you will be asked not to include anything Christmas-related in the fic you write out of respect to your recipient’s beliefs and wishes.

- Additionally, each recipient will have the option to disclose any triggers they have that they wish to be omitted from the fic they receive. If there are any triggers listed by your recipient, they will also be included in your recipient assignment message, and you will also be asked to omit any of these triggers from the fic you write out of respect to your recipient’s wishes and mental health. Additionally, if you are found to have discussed/revealed these triggers with anyone outside of myself, you will be removed from this event. Do not disclose your recipient’s personal triggers with anyone else.

- This next one should be obvious, but no form of discrimination is allowed in the fic you write for your recipient of this event. Racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism, etc. will not be tolerated in any form.
