OHIP
pull up a chair My Ontario Health card expired! I’d received a notification along with forms to fill in to get a new but, gasp, I kept putting it off. On my birthday in June I went to their web site to see what documentation I needed for the renewal. There a button for booking an appointment on line & I did that & was given one July. I found there was a Service Ontario office on the Danforth –…

Whenever I hear a news story about the general omnishambles of the current Ontario health care system, all I can hear in my head is Jane Eyre saying "I must keep in good health and not die".

Champlain Screening Outreach, Helping Those Without a Family Doctor in Eastern Ontario
Do you reside in Eastern Ontario and have no family doctor? My GP retired in 2021 and I have not yet (2.5 years later) been able to find a new family doctor. I came across the services of the Champlain Screening Outreach program recently during my search for medical help. What is the Champlain Screening Outreach Program? Through the Ottawa Hospital, the Champlain Screening Outreach offers…

80 FUCKING DOLLARS to send a FAX???
Just got a letter in the mail from my doctor's office. Says that things that were/are uncovered by OHIP that were free will now have fees, or I can pay $115 annually to get them covered.
Some fees are:
$25 for massage/orthotic/physio referrals & sick notes
$103 disability tax credit application
$65 guarantor documents
$20 prescription renewal without visit (faxed renewal from pharmacy for example)
$80 electronic transfer of medical records
Then not covered with the annual fee:
$200 drivers medical examination/form (75% discount with the annual fee)
Gotta love our free healthcare /s

Sometimes i forget visual impairment is a disability and then i remember that everyday i rely on pieces of magnified glass in front of my eyes to see. And half the time theyre full of smudges and dust no matter how much i clean them. And there are people out there that literally have a clear view all the time

I think my doctor's office must have messed up on my paperwork for top surgery approval somehow. Asking around and it seems like the current wait time to hear back is from couple days to a couple weeks. And I've been waiting a month 😑

Not trying to high jack a post but this relates to something I dealt with today so I'm sharing.
Currently NONE of my life saving medication is covered by OHIP, not even while I'm on OW. Now, thankfully I'm on cheaper versions of all my medication, so it's not the worst thing ever, but when I need refills it still always pushes me over budget and I'm left scrambling to try and deal with it. (Hey crazy thing guess what I had to get today haha, anyways emergency commissions are open and the info can be found here)
What medications OHIP covers and doesn't cover is such complete cherry picked bullshit and the government should pay all disabled people and trans people 9 million dollars every goddamn month. (trans disabled people get 18 million)
Can I ask why you're paying for medication out of pocket while being on disability? The government pays for medication for anyone on OW or ODSP.
they don't cover all of my medications. I pay out of pocket for medications deemed "optional" (ie: unrelated to my disability and/or considered to be for comfort rather than necessity)
it's bullshit, and one of the medications they refuse to cover is birth control which. yikes.
all in, only half my meds are covered by odsp, and the other half amount to 400 CAD per month

pull up a chair On Wednesday March 22, while watching some TV at around 4:30, I got out of my chair to go the bathroom & noticed a cool numbness in my left arm which I thought was from how I had been sitting in the armchair. I shook the arm & it felt okay. After supper, writing on the computer I has coordination issues with my some fingers on my left hand.  On Thursday morning the left hand/arm…

The Patient Ombudsman is a scam organization that protects hospitals not patients. Also North York General is a shameful hospital.

trying to find any sort of treatment for EDs is genuinely the most maddening experience on earth because the government won’t fund it unless you’re under x bmi but all the private treatment programs are like ‘take two weeks off work and pay 5k a day to ride horses’ or they’re just not taking patients
