He simply shrugged his shoulders before popping another Cheeto into his mouth. “Pretty sure it’s a cardinal sin to not eat perfectly good Cheetos, especially on a campaign trail.  We don’t want any smiting to happen before we get your dad elected.”

“You’re not even Catholic,” Emily scoffed in retort. 

Josh arched his brow, pointing a Cheeto at Emily.  “Didn’t realize your religion had a monopoly on caridinal sins.”

Emily folded her arms across her chest and looked at him pointedly. “Bold of you to assume I’m Catholic just because my parents are.”

“Are you?” Josh asked.

She just shrugged her shoulders. “We’re not here to discuss religion. I believe we were quibbling over what you wrongly assumed to be a dangling participle.”

Hi, Ys!

2. Do you plan each chapter ahead or write as you go?

I plan out chapters, but I'm mostly a write-as-I-go kind of person. I try to plan out the main events.

3. Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic.

I will have an initial idea. I have to rewatch an episode or the movie, even clips of the relevant scenes, just to be sure of dialogue, the timeline, and to see if the idea might work. I'll reread what I have previously written for the fic, to make sure that nothing contradicts what I have planned. I write when I have the motivation, inspiration, and time to work on the fic. Honestly, I don't know how to really explain it when I'm not writing.

4. Where do you find inspiration for new ideas?

I love fix-it fics, what-ifs, and AUs, no matter how much I love the source material. I feel like there is always at least one thing that could have been fixed or written better if certain changes had been made or a character developed more.

Sometimes, I could be inspired by another TV show or movie or an amazing fic that I read.

11. Link your three favorite fics right now.

I'm currently between quite a few fics right now on different websites and for different fandoms. My most recent reads which I'm enjoying are:

Two Dojos One Family by Dontatme420 - This is a Cobra Kai AU fanfic, a sequel to A New Cobra Comes to Town. The male OC deals with the beginnings of the dojo war in Season 2 and the return of a cousin who caused him trauma before the first fic starts.

Rewrite the Stars by @arrthurpendragon - An AU of The West Wing where President Bartlet has another daughter who is falling in love with Josh Lyman. As I dipped my toe back into my favorite political drama, I remembered that my friend has a fic in this fandom. I'm hooked by the chemistry between Josh and OC Emily and hate that I'm in the last published chapter.

Spark of Adventure by @the-time-lord-oracle - This Doctor Who fic is an AU of Series 3 in a series where the Doctor has a Time Lady companion (Gazelle). I love the team dynamics between the Tenth Doctor, Gazelle, and Martha, as well as the romance between the Doctor and Gazelle. Gazelle is an amazing OC. I love how Gazelle calls the Doctor out on his bad behavior and decisions that lead to even more bad things happening. I look forward to getting back to this story and finishing those last few chapters.

Rewrite the Stars (The West Wing OC fanfiction) Chapter 2 Sneak Peek

Finally, right?

“Sam, can I borrow your back for a second?” Emily asked.

“Yeah, sure,” Sam responded with a shrug as he continued to look at the new polling data.  Emily then set the piece of paper on his back.  “Can I ask what you’re doing?  Although, if it’s a crime, I wouldn’t tell me.  It’s not a crime is it?”  Sam kept trying to turn his head to see what Emily was doing. “Is it?” Sam’s tone sounded a little worried. “Emily?”

Josh finally showed up, panting for breath. “Sam!” he groaned, throwing his hands up in exasperation.

Sam’s head snapped toward Josh when his name was called.  After seeing his friend’s expression, he whispered over his shoulder to Emily. “On second thought, if we’re messing with Josh, I don’t care if it’s a crime, I got you covered if you need a lawyer.”

Emily laughed as she wrote on the paper on Sam’s back.  Sam couldn’t help but wiggle his shoulders because the writing tickled a bit.

“You know that I heard that,” Josh stated as he tried to reach around Sam to grab the paper, but Sam slapped Josh’s arm down while still managing to hold onto the polling data.  “Hey!” Josh yelped, withdrawing his right hand, holding it in his left hand like it was an injured wing.

“So, what exactly am I getting in the middle of?” Sam asked curiously, raising an eyebrow and then looking between Josh and Emily.

“A custody dispute,” Emily said, looking at Josh and smirking at him over Sam’s shoulder.

Josh rolled his eyes and shook his head. “For my office,” he argued, pointing at himself with both his hands.

I’ve had this Josh & Emily nugget written since 2019.  It’s literally the conversation leading up to them getting in bed with each other. It doesn’t actually get to that point, but it’s getting there. lol.

So, I’ll share it. 

This takes place in 1x16 20 hours in L.A.

Josh and Emily walked down the hallway of the hotel together.  Emly’s wet red dress clung tightly to her, but Josh had been kind enough to give her his jacket.  It hung loose on her shoulders and the sleeves went past her fingertips, but it at least kept her warm.  As they approached the room she shared with her sister, Emily’s brow furrowed. The Do Not Disturb sign had been hung.  She turned toward Josh and groaned.

“Just my luck,” Emily muttered, throwing her head back.  Zoey was in there with Charlie doing God only knows what and there was no way she was going to walk in on that.  Although, the thought of dry clothes did slightly tempt her.

“I can lend you something,” Josh said nodding his head toward his room which was right across the hall.  He pulled his wallet from his pants pocket and pulled out the key card.  He slid it into the card reader, but the light blinked red.  He did it again.  Same result.  “I take that back.”

Emily stuck her hand out. “Let me do it.”  On the first try, she was able to get the light to turn green and she pulled on the handle, opening the door.  She smiled up at Josh who looked at her in awe as she handed the key back to him.

“You got lucky,” he said, walking past her and into the room.

“You were putting it in backward,” Emily retorted, following Josh inside.  “For being a graduate of Harvard and Yale, you think you’d be able to figure out a simple key.”  The door closed behind her. 

“I could figure it out if it were an actual key.”  Josh turned to find Emily standing near the door shivering, tightly clinging to the jacket he had given her. “Are you really that cold?”

“You try being pushed in a pool on a cool February night,” she responded, her teeth chattering. “Although, I gotta say I’m glad I set my purse down before getting into it with David.” Emily patted her purse.

Josh rolled his eyes at David’s name before he walked over to his suitcase.  He pulled out his old Yale t-shirt and tossed it at her.  Emily easily caught it, but she stood there staring at him. “What?” he asked.

“While I’m sure your shirt will be a dress on me, I would prefer something for my lower half.”

Josh scratched his head and looked at his suitcase. “All I have is dress pants and boxers.”

Emily chewed her bottom lip before she asked, “Are the boxers clean?”

“Are you seriously asking me that?” Josh asked, rolling his eyes before looking at Emily rather incredulously.

Emily folded her arms across her chest and looked at him with a raised eyebrow. “I’ve traveled the country on the campaign trail with you.  Not to mention that I’ve been to your apartment and seen how you live, Josh.”

“It was like that one time!  I was sick all week and you brought me soup before I had a chance to clean.  When you drop by unannounced, you enter at your own risk.”

“Uh-huh.  If that’s your story.”

“It is.  And for your information, I did laundry yesterday.”

Emily arched her eyebrow again and placed her hands on her hips.  She could usually tell when he was trying to pull one over on her.  

Josh groaned.“Okay.  I did it a few hours before we left, which still technically was yesterday.  Do you want them or not?”

Emily held out her hand to catch them, so Josh threw them at her, but he didn’t throw them hard enough so they landed on the bed.  After a slight eye roll, Emily walked over and snatched the boxers before walking into the bathroom to change.  She was about to shut the door when her stomach growled.  Emily poked her head out the door and yelled at Josh, “Can we order something to eat?  I didn’t get anything while we were at the party.”

“You paid all that money to get in and didn’t eat?” Josh called back.

“Pie?  How about pie?” Emily asked, ignoring Josh’s comment.  She quickly changed into Josh’s clothes before she hung his now damp coat on the towel rack and hung her dripping dress from the shower rod.  Emily grabbed a towel and began to dry her hair as she walked back out into the room. “I could also do a burger.”

“I already ordered pie from room service,” Josh said as he hung up the phone.  He had changed into jeans and a t-shirt while she had changed. “But Miss Moneybags is gonna have to catch the bill before it is charged to the government or pay back Uncle Sam.”

“I’m not that rich, you know.  Well off, sure?  But I’m not completely loaded,” Emily commented, still drying her hair.

“I don’t know for sure, but I’m pretty sure you have more money than me.  I could never afford the party tonight.  Not with a government salary.”

“That was big of you to admit, Josh,” Emily teased.

Josh leaned back in the desk chair and smirked. “I’m just trying to get you to take pity on a civil servant like me and pay for my pie.”

“I already think you’re pathetic, my opinion of you can’t get much worse.”

“Good, then it’s agreed.  You’re paying for my pie.  Speaking of pie, those prices are astronomical.  I could probably buy an entire pie at the bakery down the street for what they’re charging.”

“But the bakery down the street is closed.”

“Which is probably why people like you are willing to pay the price for it.”

Emily chuckled before she sat down on the edge of the bed.  “I’m assuming if we’re having pie that you’re okay if I hang out in here with you for a while?”  She looked over at Josh, who seemed to be checking her out in his clothes.  Emily blushed a little.

“Unless you’re planning on going back to the party like that,” he commented.

She blushed again before she crawled across the bed and grabbed the TV remote from the bedside table.  Emily leaned against the pillows and pushed the power button on the remote.  She flicked through the channels until Sleepless in Seattle appeared on the screen.  Josh stood up and took a few steps toward the TV and stood there watching it with his arms folded across his chest.  Emily watched him to see if he recognized it.  She had made him watch it with her on the campaign and a few times since.  She loved Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan and he knew that, having taken her to see You’ve Got Mail...as friends of course.  He was still kinda seeing Mandy at the time.  Not to mention that she was kinda seeing David then too.

It took him a few moments to figure it out, but when he did, Josh looked at Emily pointedly and shook his head slowly.  Emily stuck her tongue out at him but he said nothing.  Josh sat down on the edge of the bed with his arms still folded across his chest and eyes on the TV.  After a few minutes, he moved back to lean against the pillows beside Emily.  Emily blushed faintly, hoping that Josh didn’t see.  But just when Josh had gotten comfortable, there was a knock at the door.

“Oh my god,” Emily groaned. “Did you even read that paragraph? Your suggestion makes no sense!”

“You know what makes no sense? That paragraph!” Josh argued back, jabbing a red pen in the air toward Emily.

Emily and Josh were seated across from each other at a small table on the bus the Bartlet campaign was taking across the country to visit their constituents. Pages of Emily’s book were strewn across the table marked with so much red, her book might as well have been bleeding. For her book being “not that bad” Josh had certainly marked it up. A lot. 

With her frustration at an all-time high, Emily reached her hand into the Cheeto bag and without thinking, she threw a handful at Josh’s face.  They bounced off his face and splattered onto the pages of her book, his seat, and the floor.

“Real mature,” Josh scoffed as he licked his lips for any stray Cheeto dust.  He then grabbed the few that landed in his shirt pocket and popped them into his mouth.

“Look who’s talking,” Emily responded, gesturing to Josh who was now reaching for the Cheetos on the table.

He simply shrugged his shoulders before popping another Cheeto into his mouth.

I haven't written for her much recently - mostly because I didn't have access to the first season of The West Wing for a while once it left Netflix. But that "write a sentence game for a specific fic" game I started had me writing a bit back in November. So, Emily isn't dead - just hibernating! lol

Josh leaned back in his chair, resting his hands behind his head.  He sighed, glancing up at a book that looked rather misplaced up on the shelf. It was a turquoise book with a fancy silver font that said: First Daughter Diaries. He chuckled to himself before he slowly managed to get his butt off the chair to grab it.  He opened the book and turned to the dedication.

To Josh - the first person who believed this could actually be a thing.
