Benji hiccuped as tears fell down to the floorboards. Too emotional for words, he mustered a quick head nod. Peter sighed low, shaking his head. “Oh, Benjamin….why on earth didn’t you tell me?”

The noble shook his head once more. Peter tried again, his tone greatly hurt now, yet soft and unthreatening: “ Benjamin…. ”

Through his gentle sobs, the prince spoke in a cracking voice. “I….I didn’t want my heart to break…..” His lips curled as he tried to bottle his sorrow, but the waves wouldn’t cease. Finally, the onslaught of passionate grief overflowed from his chest to his tear ducts, and down his freckled face.

“Benjamin…..” Peter whispered low and gently.

“…..J-just break my h-heart already…..!” Benji’s crying breath hitched. The amulet was glowing brightly around his trembling bosom, yet the light did not detract the tears.

Peter cupped his hands over Benjamin’s cheeks, wiping the streams away with his thumbs. Tenderly, he tilted the prince’s head up to meet his eyes as he cooed gently down: “You should have told me, Benjamin….because you’d never know that….” He confessed through his own swelling voice. “…..that I feel the same.”

Benjamin’s shining eyes widened in shock. But, before he could let Peter’s words sink in, the captain leaned forward and met their lips. Slowly, sweetly, he kissed Benji as he tried to calm the crying mess of a man in his arms.

The noble’s breath hitched into Peter’s mouth, but he didn’t fight the kiss. Instead, he leaned into it with his whole heart as he finally relinquished his remaining reservation. Giving Hart total control, Benjamin moved his lips and jaw in tandem with the captain. Much like their dancing, he let Peter lead…..and Peter would absolutely take.

He's 26 at the start of the show and was 16 during the betrayal.

His hair has feathers in it, which is why it sticks out at such weird angles.

If he spends enough time in the sun (which is rare), he tans so much that he's damn near unrecognisable, and his hair will sunbleach into a bright green.

His full name was Achilles Larimar Gryphus, his parents named him after an obscure Cyclonian folk hero (Achilles) and a historical Talon general (Larimar). Only two people are allowed to call him Achilles these days, his best friend Austry and his younger sister Ashe (both of whom are OCs belonging to @ashe-alter).

His mother, Andromeda Avadat, was the captain of an accomplished Talon squadron known as the Red Harts, but when he was five, she was killed in battle by Wren when fighting the Rebel Ducks in a border skirmish.

His father, Solomon Gryphus, is a historian who focuses on ancient myths and legends, and as a result Dark Ace is a massive history nerd.

Solomon went missing about six months before Ace betrayed the Storm Hawks. It's believed that when he took a ship to Cyclonia it got shot down to the Wastelands, no doubt killing him.

Ace has ocular albinism (another headcanon I borrowed from @/ashe-alter), whence the colour of his eyes. It's a very common trait for Cyclonians and those of Cyclonian heritage, caused by the fact that Terra Cyclonia is sat on top of what is probably the world's largest deposit of firebolt crystals. As a result he's terribly far-sighted and light sensitive, and should really be wearing prescription goggles when out in the field. He used to when he was younger, but people kept smashing them and he gave up on getting new ones. Now he has to rely on spatial awareness to not get stabbed.

Dark Ace likes to cook. As in he really likes to cook, and it's not uncommon for him to be found at the camp kitchens when out on the field with other Talons. Chopping carrots kneading flatbreads, adding spices to the stew pot, whatever he's doing just let him do it, because you'll get something great out of it in the end. It's another thing his father passed down to him, so cooking makes him feel at home.

The man's not one for the finer things in life, he prefers to keep his private quarters rather simple, but his kitchen is one of the most high-tech setups that money can buy. One of the most expensive things he owns however, is a set of hand-forged kitchen knives that were a not-quite-wedding gift to his parents from his uncle on his mother's side.

Speaking of family, he's very much estranged from his mother's side of the family after some... incidents that occurred after the death of his maternal grandfather (a decorated war veteran and councilman named Cepheus Avadat). For his father's side, he hasn't met any of them. Solomon was an orphan and never managed to locate any of his family before he died.

Ace is, well... aroace. Absolutely no desire for sex or romance which makes the occasional flirting from fans or Talons who think they can get special treatment from him by doing so incredibly awkward.

When he was still a Storm Hawk, he was forced into a blind date with the relative of an Inside Atmos reporter after the squadron was added to a publicity stunt lottery where the winner got to go on a date with a squadron member of their choice. It was incredibly uncomfortable, ended in tears, and the Condor's original pilot had to chase off the date with a geyser crystal. This was one of many incidents that badly affected his public image in the team. Not that he cared.

The old team did get action figures, however Ace's were always horribly inaccurate because merchandise producers thought the Cyclonian copilot wouldn't be popular enough to get a proper figure. As a result his figures were often made with recycled moulds, giving him the wrong hair, body type, and they even got painted in completely the wrong colours. This lead to much of the current Atmos not actually realising that the Dark Ace was Lightning Strike's copilot. Which suited the Sky Knight Council just fine.

Current Dark Ace action figures are far more accurate than the "Copilot" figures, and Ravess (plus others) likes to tease Ace by buying his merch and hiding it on random shelves in the commanders' shared spaces.

The man plays piano, usually when he's been dragged to bars for karaoke knight by other Talons. However he can't read sheet music for the life of him, has to play everything by ear, and it pisses off Ravess to no end.

He often writes in Cyclonian cursive, which anyone outside of Cyclonia seemingly can't read at all. It's more effective than actual coded messages at this point.

Anarchis hated his guts, and he disliked her in return. The woman treated him like filth and is a major contributing factor to his dogshit self-esteem.

He's got a phobia of mannequins.

If you ask him about his most recent predecessors, Crimson Rain and the Harvestman who both died about thirty years before he became Champion, his programmed response is to give you the dirtiest look imaginable. While he doesn't hate talking about the previous two Champions, Anarchis would constantly compare him to Crimson Rain in order to demean him and he fell out of love with what used to be beloved household names in his childhood.

If he gets sick, it will take either puppy eyes from his sister or his friends dragging him to his bed by the feathers before he actually stops to rest. Absolute workaholic.

His outfit in the show is actually a new design. Throughout the years his uniform has been through multiple iterations as he's grown and evolved as a Champion and fighter. His current uniform is very heavily based off his mother's.

Boi lived on Terra Xerxxes for a while after his mother's death. Red eyes and dark hair are common traits for the people of Xerxxes too because the Terra was once a major part of the empire, and it's part of how he was able to get away with disguising himself as the Terra's Sky Knight in Velocity. Even today, Xerxxes still feels like a home to him.

I have so much more on this man but it's four years' worth of headcanons. If I carried on then I think I'd find a secret word limit for Tumblr posts, so have some of the ones that mostly lurk in the backgrounds of fics.

This is a mini fic (sort of unfinished) just exploring the relationship between John Hart and my Torchwood OC within this little AU I made. Not quite AO3-worthy but I haven't written anything else in ages and I quite like this.

It was close to midnight, and Captain John Hart was awake. Of course he was. John had always been most vibrant and awake in the night-- which he assured people had nothing to do with being a criminal and a man whore.

Something he didn't usually do was stay in. Ever since he'd taken up base in Cardiff and poked his way into Torchwood, though, he'd been trying his best to cut back and relax more often; he did have his work cut out for him, these days.

The elevator doors of his penthouse opened, and in walked one of the two reasons he was in this whole mess to begin with: Ghost.

John had been living with Ghost for quite some time- a year, he reckonned- and she was the product of one of his more empathetic nights stumbling out of a nightclub in Chicago. A demon, originally from England, that had found herself badly burnt and beaten in an alleyway, conveniently bleeding out slow enough for John to find her and take sympathy.

Why? He still wasn't so sure. If he had to guess, it was probably a bit of residual guilt left over from what had happened to Jack because of Gray. If anything, logic should suggest John should keep far, far away from ever taking in rescues again, but he never really had been one to regard consequence.

"Hey..." Ghost greeted John, her voice soft. He could tell where she'd been just from the look in her scarlet, cat-like eyes.

"Hiiii." John tilted his head back against the sofa, his legs propped up comfortably on the coffee table. "Have fun?"

Ghost just grunted in reply, which was pretty standard of her-- especially when she was embarrassed. "Sooo... Was he good?"

The glare John got off her could've cut glass. If he didn't find it so funny, he might've been intimidated, or at least inclined to shut his mouth.

Both of them had a (fairly) secure friendship, and since John had barged into her insecurities and personal life with the etiquette expected of a rampant sociopath, he knew her quite well. Firstly, the minute Ghost had been introduced to Jack Harkness, he'd known something was going to happen. The fear response Jack had sparked in her upon first impressions had obviously interested him, and any man with a hero complex would take one look at her damaged, repressed nature and leap at it.

"Come on, don't be a prude." John stretched, unbothered by Ghost's sharp look. "You act like I've never slept with him. I already know, it's not my first day."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Ghost muttered.

"Oh, what, you want some high heels between your fingers and some smudged lipstick to go with that hair?" John teased.

"Piss off," She spat back.

There was nothing quite like poking fun at a demon. Most people assumed Ghost had some kind of back-catalogue of powers and magical elements, but she was really just a creature, like humanity, with a few extra bells and whistles. The sharp teeth, red horns, and the piercing red eyes brought the whole furious look together, but John could still tell how much better off she was for getting herself laid. Her shoulders were loose, her jaw unclenched, and she looked happier. Not quite blissed-out, but he was the common denominator for all of her grumpy looks.

"Don't be like that. I know you had a good time; you're glowing. How come you're back? I thought you might've stayed the night snuggling and doing all that repugnant couple-y shit." He leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees.

"He had to go deal with a Rift thing. Seemed like it was going to be a while, so I figured I'd just come back here," Ghost explained, however reluctantly.

John grumbled. "What about Eye Candy?"

"What about him?"

"Have you screwed him yet?"

There was a moment of silence, then a deflated sigh from Ghost. "Let's stop talking now."

John raised his hands defensively and rolled his eyes, taking a swig of vodka from the bottle on the coffee table. Regular Earth vodka didn't do a lot to his alcohol tolerance unless he guzzled down at least 2 bottles, but it certainly took the edge off.

"Whatever. I didn't leave you any takeaway. Didn't think you'd be here. There's probably still stuff in the fridge you could heat up, though."

"It's fine, I've already eaten." Ghost yawned as she spoke, clearly tired-out.

"Yeah, I bet you have." He smirked suggestively-- it was met with the most unimpressed look he'd ever gotten. Hilarious.

"I can always keep you company, if you're still feeling the post-coital cuddle fever," John offered, "it's always cute."

"Just get a dog or something."

"I would, but that kind of relationship is frowned upon." He grinned at her.

Ghost's nose wrinkled in disgust. "When's your next therapy session again?"

That irked John. "Tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder," he sighed, chin resting on his fist. Being dragged backwards by his legs kicking and screaming into 'fixing himself' was one of the most unpleasant things John had ever done-- and he'd been tortured more than once. It seemed to be helping him very gradually, but he was a stubborn and ignorant man that only changed at the promise of death. Clearly, Ghost had caught the sarcasm in his tone, because she tilted her head. "Still struggling with therapy, hm?"

"It's just tiresome, I hate being changed..."

She didn't say anything, she just nodded. For all of her annoying (emotional) traits, Ghost did have a lot of understanding for him that he knew he didn't deserve. Sometimes it actually disgusted him when she just listened to him talk and told him that it was all going to be okay-- not that he'd ever tell the poor lamb, she'd probably be hurt... Which... He didn't want?

Repugnant. Being reminded of his emotions always put him in a bad mood.

"Go away." John muttered when Ghost continued to just stare at him like she was expecting him to keep talking. He definitely didn't regret his harsh tone when she just walked down the hall without a word. Definitely not. That would be pathetic.

It was alright, he told himself, Ghost had had a lovely time tonight, she would wrap herself up in her duvet and do all that girlish kicking about how great Jack is. His ex. His partner. His everything...

Apparently John was going to need something stronger than whiskey to deal with the level of pining at hand, but he cursed to himself when he remembered that Jack had taken the drugs he had; weened him off of them, though too quickly to be considered helpful.

Why was he here? For Jack? For Ghost? Was he really that useless, that he would bother clinging to people- people, for crying out loud- so tightly that he'd prevented himself from letting go? Even if he could shake Ghost off like the blood-sucking tick that she was (he was getting more bitter by the minute), he'd still be trotting behind Jack on all fours, and not in a fun way. So lovesick that he'd forked over his vortex manipulator with nothing but a little bit of arguing? Either he was getting old and losing his touch, or he was possessed by an alien mind virus that was controlling him.

For his pride's sake, he was begging for the latter, but it didn't take much soul-searching to know that he was here of his own free will... Or however much free will love let him keep, anyway...

Half an hour later, Ghost re-emerged from her room with damp hair, smelling fresh and nothing like Jack anymore. Shame. She settled wordlessly next to John, wrapping herself in the blanket draped over the back of the sofa.

Considerate as ever, she kept a little bit of space between herself and John; close enough to be supportive, but far enough away to keep him comfortable. He got weird about physical contact, and even though he really didn't mind it from her, she was still so cautious and careful about him. Insulting, but he supposed he couldn't blame her for her need to please other people.

"I thought you were heading to bed." John leaned back against the sofa, turning his head lazily to gaze over at her.

"You seemed... Unhappy," Ghost hesitated on the last word. She was always careful with what words she used to describe how John felt, because she knew he rarely 'felt' anything remotely close to what she did. That was probably why she always used such broad terms to guess his emotional state: less room for miscalculation. That little demon simply couldn't handle being wrong.

"I'm alright. Just thinking a lot." It almost surprised him to hear even the sliver of extra detail leave his lips. John usually pulled off the 'everything-is-fine-and-I'm-having-the-time-of-my-life' look perfectly. Ghost didn't really care about all that pretense, though, she was more stubborn than anyone he'd ever met, and she could sniff out bad vibes like a bloodhound. Perks of heightened instincts, he supposed.

"Don't do too much, it could kill you." Ghost yawned, her slightly pointy teeth glinting in the dim lamp light.

"Ha ha," John deadpanned, "are you calling me dumb?"

"No. You'd be surprised what thinking can end up doing to people."

"Turns them into someone like you, I imagine," John said, hoping there wasn't any disdain in his tone. He liked how Ghost was. She was easy.

"Yeah." There was no resentment in her voice, just a hint of sadness.

Silence.

"Is that what's going on with Jack, then?" John asked. "Are you... Trying to get away from your head?"

"No." Ghost looked over at him, too much incredulity in her tone for her to be believed. She was the worst liar. "...Okay. A little bit. Not entirely, I do really like him."

"Ah."

"But the sex? Yeah. I want to get away." She admitted. Always admitting too easily. Always telling the truth. It was going to get her killed-- hopefully not by him, though.

John let his legs open a little more, resting an arm on the back of the sofa, almost around her. "You don't have to look so ashamed, darling, I have been there. Still am there, really..."

"Is it bad? Using it like that? Am I doing the wrong thing?" She asked. So sweet and innocent.

"You're asking the wrong guy," John shook his head, "but in my experience, most people are looking for something to numb their feelings. Or... To make feelings happen. It's not bad, I guess it's just human."

Ghost frowned at that. He couldn't tell if it was because she saw 'human' as an insult, or whether she just didn't like having her species and its differences ignored; either way, she didn't say anything about it.

"I'm... I'm new to all this. I don't know what I'm doing, I don't want to mess it up by doing the wrong thing... Or doing it the wrong way."

"Fear of rejection. Yeah, I clocked that," John mumbled.

"Does Jack care?" She asked softly, all the insecurity bleeding through. In another instance, John would see it as a tantalising opportunity to hurt or manipulate her, but he didn't have anything to gain right now, except company.

"Knowing him, he probably loves it. I'd say it was because he enjoys giving you the opportunity to relax, but it's most likely just because he gets an easy fuck out of it." He caught Ghost's look and blinked. "Sorry."

She just shook her head. "I'm gonna keep thinking he likes me and cares about me. You know that. I'm naïve."

"You are." John smiled. "Wonderfully so."

"...Don't say things like that, you make it hard to trust you."

"We both know you're gonna keep trusting me anyway." John gave her a half-lidded, knowing gaze that made her sigh. She always lost the game, resigned herself to submission so quickly-- Jack must love that about her.

Ghost didn't say anything else, even if she wanted to. John watched her bring her knees up to her chest into that balled-up position she loved far more than her posture did. What a delicious mess. Whether it was predation or love that kept John around her, he was just grateful for her quiet presence. She was like a house cat, keeping him company.

It was then that John realised his lack of companionship in his middle age had turned him into a twisted version of a cat lady, and he wanted to go and blow up a building just to feel himself again.

'Jack would kill me for that' was always drifting around his head. Consideration. Consequences. Two very bad words that John hadn't properly grasped the definitions of until Jack had sunk his claws in for the second time. That was all his head would do: Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, murder, Jack, Jack, Jack, sex, Jack. Drugs would be such a mercy right now. Jack would kill him for that.

If you could have any pet in the world, what would you choose?

A little bird would be very cute. I see Peter get teased about it constantly: “Oi mate, where’s yer parrot?” And that cheeky bastard would reply: “I already have a bird hanging off my shoulder, mate. I haven’t a need for another one.” Still, it does make me laugh picturing the captain arguing with a parrot. Hahaha~

What does your typical everyday outfit look like?

Well, I got my white, long-sleeved shirt to protect against the blaring sun. Peter also gave me a bandana to protect my scalp. My cotton breeches, my boots, belt, gun, sword….thats about it, really. Oh, and…of course….the wedding ring. Though, that stays on my body at all times. It’s been there so long that my knuckles, since swollen from the deck work, would make it impossible for it to slip off.

Do you believe in soulmates?

(Blushing, looking down at the aforementioned wedding ring) O-Of course I do…for Peter to have found me again after fourteen years apart was no mere coincidence. I don’t need a cursed amulet to tell me that my heart yearns for him every single day. A golden Hart for sure.
