Karrde's Fandom Friday Rec #2 (5/10/24)

My second rec this week has to go to @cyarbika's 18+ fic Walk Me Home. It's a PERFECT sequel to No Strings Attached, and I cannot tell you the amount of times I've screamed and scared my dogs while reading this fic. Bee expertly weaves so much detail together, and the amount of thought she puts into her plot just leaves me absolutely astounded (and slightly jealous because it's absolutely BRILLIANT). I adore her OC Cherise with all of my heart, and her and her story feels like they could (and should) so easily be canon, I almost forget that she's not most days. And Wolffe's storyline in this? Soul crushing and perfect and hopeful and everything we wish we'd gotten so far from canon. Cannot recommend this fic enough.

Karrde's Fandom Friday Rec #2 (8/4/23)

My second rec this week has to go to @cyarbika for her fic Walk Me Home. I've written Bee entire book reports about how good this fic is, but words honestly fail me. Bee has created a cast of original characters that are so wonderful and rich that they fit perfectly in with canon while also being immensely relatable. The way she writes Wolffe is absolute perfection, and I already loved Cherise based on NSA (I know she wasn't technically Cherise then, but she already felt like a fully-flushed out character even then), but I have fallen even more in love with her with every chapter of WMH. Bee has written such a devastatingly beautiful story about love, perseverance, and finding your way in a galaxy rocked by tragedy, and I cannot recommend it enough, even for those that aren't necessarily Star Wars fans. I could go on and on (and have done so in Bee's comments lol), but I just gotta say that everyone should check it out for themselves.

I'm Your Huckleberry

Howdy y'all! Today the first two (2) chapters of I'm Your Huckleberry went live on ao3! This is that story revolving around the big west west party I've been working on off and on since April. It would have been done sooner but we can all thank heath issues for that.

The story is rated Mature and will be 14 chapters. Contains explicit language and themes of past abuse and neglect for several adult characters.

As The Liberated's survey of Cassiopeia I draws to a close focus shifts to planning young Sophie's 7th birthday party. The birthday girl's request is a big one but nothing Delgado and the team can't handle. Everything feels smooth sailing with Doc Melody's help until specters start casting shadows on the Ranch. Will Del and Doc be able to shake off the weight of their pasts before the party? Or will trouble rain of the joyous day?

“How did you…” he stopped next to her and joined in looking around, his voice more calm, “Did you find any better spots?”

“Yeah, three or four,” she sighed, “I still can’t believe I let you two talk me into this.”

“Oh, come on, the arrangement is perfect for you,” Del clapped her back and ignored the unseen glare under her helmet, “enemy of my enemy and all that shit. Plus how many old Earth artifacts have the Liberated gifted to Constellation since we started.”

“Just get moving, the girls and Rafa await your return.”

He turned and watched as Rokov, Jazz, and the others hustled off the beach, A few bags and small cases left up on the rocks in order to travel light. He gave Jay’s shoulder another couple pats and said in a softer tone, “thank you for the assist.”

“I’m sure you did have it covered,” she looked down her barrel and took a shot off to the north, the explosion causing several walking flowers to scatter, “but better safe than sorry.”

“And you wearing your getup?” he asked as they started moving for the ships.

“Aw, come on,” she playfully pushed him, “you telling me you never wanted to work with a superhero before?”

Delgado heard Jazz snort a laugh before turning on her heel and backpedaling with the group, “I’m still curious to see the superhero in action. The way Cora has talked you up I half expect you to fly off into the sunset with a green cape billowing in the wind.”

“She has a…vivid imagination,” Jay said with the shake of her head.

Something about the good doctor’s tone made Del perk up. She was holding something back there. But that was silly, Jay was just an adventurous anthropologist who got a lucky score with finding that abandoned lair. Yet she was also deceptively strong and both her and her twin were eerily perceptive in a firefight. He’d seen them call shots impossible to see and twice now his crew reported seeing her survive grenade blasts that would have ripped anyone else apart. “It was like her suit was made of fucking stone,” Seumas had said about it after their run-in with spacers on the northern pole.

“Vivid nothing,” Seumas chimed in now, “I’ve seen that suit of your shimmer.”

“Trick of the light,” Jay waved off with a chuckle, “the firefight had knocked up snow and the lights around that landing pad bounced off the ice particles.”

“Bullshit,” Seumas pointed at her, “I don’t know did do it but I know that’s bullshit.”

Ramon: *Shakes his head* Livia, wouldn't do that, she's nice and she's taking care of me and lots of other orphans

Livia: *Shoots down towards him at full speed, her wings tucked in*

Livia: *Flares her wings and lands, grabbing Ramon and throwing her wings around him as she pulled him into a tight hug*

Ivy: That's some intense love right there

Tama: Awww! You can tell she really cares!

Keya: *Nods in agreement, flicking his wings back looking envious* Yeah...

Livia: *Moves back looking worried* Where did you go!? Why did you leave the school!

Ramon: The sister of one of my friends is being held prisoner, did nobody tell you that?

Livia: *Glares at him* Yes, they did "Guess what your majesty, we deeply apologize but Ramon and a few other students have taken off to find a prisoner!" YES! VERY HELPFUL! I'M NOT WORRIED AT ALL

Ramon: *Perks up noticing Livia's hair was swirling shades of red, yellow, pale green, orange, light blue, dark green and brown* Sorry....I didn't mean to leave like that

Livia: *Sighs and tones down her hair making it turn back to black* It's fine...I know you're safe..

Ramon: Are you gonna make me go back?

Livia: *Shakes her head* You go ahead and finds your friends missing sibling

Ramon: R-Really!?

Livia: *Nods, smiling at him shades of indigo, lavender and light purple spreading across her hair* I know you can do it, Ramon, I've taught you well and I know you learned lots from the school

Ramon: *Nods and smiles at his friends* I have actually

Livia: *Chuckles* Go ahead, I shall inform all guards scattered across the land to aid you should you ask

Ramon: *Throws his arms around Livia* You're the best sister figure ever!

Livia: *Smiles, her hair turning a bright shade of pink* No problem, go ahead

Ramon: *Let's her go then quickly hurries away with his friends* I'll do my best!

Livia: I know! You always do!!

Ramon: *Lifts into the air on his broom, flying away*

Livia: *Smiles watching him go* You'll do just fine, Ramon

Tama: Hey Ramon, I wanted to ask!

Ramon: Huh?

Tama: Why did Princess Livia's hair change colors?

Ramon: Showcases her emotions, she has some control of it but sometimes she stamps it down when she sees others stare

Cherise: Really?

Ramon: Yeah

Ivy: What were the emotions going through her hair

Ramon: The first time when she scolded me the colors meant stressed out, distress, worried, frustrated, scared, and angry

Ivy: YIKES!!

Ramon: The second time the colors meant pride, proud and delighted

Ivy: *Flies up beside him giving him a friendly nudge* Aww, she really believes in you

Ramon: *Laughs* And the last one meant love!

Hi Karrde!! Can I shout out Walk Me Home by @cyarbika for fandom Friday? NSA is one of my fave all time fics, and I’ve loved seeing how Bee has grown the story into its sequel, and showing more of her WONDERFUL OC Cherise. The writing is phenomenal, and the story amazing. Also, the way Bee writes Wolffe is top-tier.

YESSSSS IRIS!! YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN AND SHOULD!!! I am SHAMEFULLY behind on Walk Me Home (Bee, I know you always tell me not to apologize or feel bad, but I DO AND I SWEAR I'M GONNA GET CAUGHT UP BECAUSE THIS FIC IS JUST SO GOOD). I am right there with you in that I fell in love with Bee's writing and characterization of Wolffe in NSA, and was OVERJOYED when she announced a sequel. And WMH has been everything I hoped for and more. Cherise is fantastic, but so are all of the other OCs Bee has introduced. I love EVERYTHING ABOUT IT and cannot WAIT to get caught up. Thanks for the rec!

Actually talk to Charlotte and Navia (they know his identity but never say), Charlotte has an off comment about a fan of his often being where Aiden is, Navia about how Cherise sometimes helps her men

“Then so does that,” he reached out and tugged on the bottom edge of her padded armor.

She let herself laugh and withdrew her hands to undo the clasps and pull the armor off. He looked momentarily disappointed to lose her touch before setting about undoing his belt and leather coat. They both tossed their armor toward the back wall, his gear landing on top of hers. 

Bella stepped closer and laid a hand on each shoulder, still in awe over how relaxed he felt and looked. She would have thought someone living on the Key would be hypervigilant, always cautious of the knife waiting for their back. But not Delgado. No this cocky prick reclined on his couch, at least one drink deep, letting the newest rook touch him.

Her left hand dropped to his belt and unfastened the clasp with deft precision and pulled it free of its loops, tossing it onto the pile. He hummed in approval, holding eye contact as she worked the button and zipper of his pants, a subtle curl of the corner of his lips.

Stop this right now, caution insisted, you will regret this!

Add it to the pile, she thought as she knelt down on the floor, her armor’s knee pads scuffing the concrete, “room could use a rug, you know.”

❝ that little lady? she is certainly an odd one, although I suppose this school is full of even more peculiar students. perhaps she appears to be rather calm to the common eye. but more often than not, I can see that she is actually quite excitable. while such zeal is beyond me nowadays, it is to be expected in those her age. therefore, I don't hold it against her as much as I normally would, should it be someone far older. however, I do have to commend how she conducts herself — whether it is the way she signs and creases her envelopes or her standing posture, it is not easy to overlook such details of one's character. without a doubt, she was certainly raised under a good upbringing as a lady. as long as she keeps persevering, I suppose she could eventually befit that title of hers. ❞
