Okay now I've gotten myself angry again. Every time a medical professional is abusive/neglectful the overwhelming response is "Their job is so stressful and underpaid! They deal with so many rude and abusive patients, of course they're like that!!"
You know who else has stressful, underpaid jobs and deal with rude and abusive customers a lot? Retail workers. But if a retail worker started assaulting all of their customers you'd hear all about it, wouldn't you? The consequences would be enormous, and there would be an overwhelmingly negative response, even if it was exclusive to rude customers.
Now imagine this was the norm, and it was socially acceptable, encouraged even, in retail jobs to abuse and assault your customers whenever you feel like it, for any perceived sleight, just because they need to buy groceries and you have to serve them. It would be all over the news, it would be an international scandal with arrests all over the place, there would be exposés of the secret culture of abuse and assault in retail workplaces on every channel and news source with interviews with the victims. Everyone would know about it and everyone would care, because of course that's fucked up.
So why is it different when your victims are sick and rely on you to survive?
#yes this does also double as a cop analogy like many MANY things when it comes to medical professionals#cripplepunk#cripple punk#disability#actually disabled#uk nhs#ableism#medical abuse#medical trauma#Only a matter of time before I get cussed out by a nurse for this. Nurses really are the cops of healthcare#PS. retail workers would be FAR more justified imo#100#500#1k

Happy Halloween, Nurse Kenjaku will see you now 👀
So here's my Halloween cosplay!!! It was a bit of a nightmare getting this together as the tunic literally arrived this morning 😂 Ever since I read Chapter 242, I knew I had to do a Nurse Kenjaku and I'm super happy with this!
My makeup isn't the best as I did rush it, but I will work on it and maybe even bring her to a con someday ❤️
I also didn't have a clipboard so I'm using one of my files, making do with what I have lol

If you're a UK citizen, please sign. (You cannot sign unless you are a UK citizen). We shouldn't be punished for falling in love with someone from another country. And certainly shouldn't have to earn above the average UK wage.
[ID: Text that reads: Don’t increase the income requirement for family visas to £38,700. Currently the financial requirements to bring your spouse to the UK is £18,600 per year and now the Government wants to more than double it. Most people in the UK don’t make that per year. We believe this policy punishes those who fall in love with someone with a different nationality. 59,809 signatures out of 100,000.]

#not my usual sort of post but as someone whos partner lives in another country...#i dont like the idea of us losing our future if i can't earn above the uk average wage#and even if this didnt apply to me it isnt fair on anyone else#theyre bullshitting that this is somehow gonna help the nhs? i guess cos they think they'll be less patients?#jokes on them when they find out a lot of nhs doctors and nurses and workers moved here from-#-other countries so if this goes through they'll be less patients but also less staff so nothing would change anyway#the government just want any excuse to stop letting people into the uk because they're always scapegoating and demonising immigrants#the vampire vents

People saying on that NHS post there’s nothing we can do til 2024...
Voting is not the only way to influence the country you live in. In many ways, it’s the least effective way.
If you vote IDK, Labour, and think job done, you’re part of the problem.
The number one thing you can do to help save the NHS right now is to support the nurse’s strike, and the junior doctor’s strike. Will the aims of these unions solve the whole problem? Obviously not. But supporting the strikes sends a general message to the government about who’s side “the public” are on, and what the public will accept.
Things you can do to support the strikes:
1) Donate to strike funds. Long term strikes struggle, because people don’t get paid. Many nurses can’t afford to save much on their current wage. Many doctors come out of med school with crippling commercial debt and not in a good financial state. These things make it hard to strike. So if you can help people go on strike for more days, that’s super important.
2) Visit picket lines. Picket lines are in effect protests- if you’d go on a protest march for the NHS, then go and visit the picket line. Talk to whoever’s on the picket line and offer your soldiarity and support. This makes a huge different to striking workers. If you can bring those on the picket line hot drinks or snacks, this will likely be super appreciated!
3) Post about your support for the strikes on your social media. The mainstream media are trying to run with the message “no-one” supports the strikes. You can help combat this.
4) Similar to the above, phone in to talk radio, write letters to newspapers expressing your support of the strikes.
5) Challenge people who criticise the strikes. E.g. if someone says “They’re putting people at risk by striking” you can say “the Tories are putting the NHS at risk of collapse, so they have to do something”.
I’m sure those nurses who have been on strike will have more to add, as they’re the ones facing this directly!

The Lucy Letby situation is fucked for so many reasons.
Because the actual shit she did was fucked, she's a serial killer, a child murderer.
And the news is like oh she was an English rose.
She didn't have the face of a murderer.... What do child murderers look like? 🤨
Because last I checked, the only nurses that have killed kids in thus country were white women.
And her friends and family being like oh she was so sweet, never angry, never mean oh we'll miss her so much.
"I'll stand with her no matter what? 🥺"... The fuck?!
I have dropped people for less.
And people sympathising with her crying in court like oh poor dear....
She killed 7 babies, you know who the poor dears are the babies!
The parents and families of those poor innocent babies.
God the power of white woman tears is something else.
And for anyone who's like don't bring race into this, you think there'd be this much sympathy if she was black or brown?
Bitch literally wrote a note saying "I'm evil I did this" and there are people who can't believe "an innocent women" could do such evil.

having been in hospital for the past five days, my anger at the tories' response to the strike has grown astronomically.
i already found it stupid because calling any medical professional in the nhs selfish for striking because "people who could have been saved are going to die" is a redundant argument. thats already happening because the tories have been chronically underfunding the nhs for over 12 years now. the system is underfunded, understaffed and overcrowded; people who shouldnt have died have died for a decade.
but like, this is the first time ive been on a ward for several days since 2008ish, so i didnt have as full a perspective as possible, which i do now.
and calling the nurses selfish is so fucking laughable.
im not gonna divulge all details about why im here but ill say that i could have been discharged on the second day because the concerning symptoms had disappeared, but after checking my lying vs standing blood pressure, i was kept in just in case.
anytime theres been an issue, its been dealt with immediately with whatever measures they can take. if the nurses couldnt, they paged the doctors immediately.
one of my issues was low blood pressure and while ive been here, its been checked several times a day and ive been woken up twice each night just to err on the side of caution. and yeah it was annoying to be woken up at 2am for it, im eternally grateful they did.
the lady next to me was struggling to get up on the bed because it was too high so the nurse called the porter and had them bring a shorter bed so shed be more comfortable.
i havent even seen any of them sit down until their shifts were over.
like logically, we all know that the tory rhetoric that "nurses are striking because theyre lazy and selfish, and just want more money" isnt true. but knowing it and seeing it firsthand is just so different.
and i already wanted to throw molotov cocktails are the tories but now i want to just shoot a flaming fucking arrow right between rishi sunaks eyes
