To my amazingly beautiful sister.
Sisters by blood. Best friends by choice.
I consider myself very fortunate to have both in one person. To be honest, I still feel like the term “best friend” is lacking whenever I describe my relationship with my younger sister, Jam. She’s my #1 fan, my photographer (who knows my best angles and is brutally honest whenever I look garbage in my blog photos), my food buddy, my fellow dog lover, my Christian ministry partner, my confidante. She probably knows me more than I know myself. If I will be asked about the most memorable experience I shared with my younger sister, it’ll be a book of a thousand pages! From our insane “commuting adventures” to my war with her elementary bullies -  for me, even the littlest things are special memories that I will always treasure.
Tumblr media
However, if there’s one special set of memorable experiences I would really love to share, that would be my K-Pop Fangirl life with my sister. I know my life isn’t as colorful as those fancy celebrities. I live an ordinary life but I can truly say that my K-Pop fangirl life is made of gold. Back in 2009, when I fell into the fandom, I have no one else to spazz with. K-Pop wasn’t as huge back then so it’s pretty difficult to have someone that can relate to it. As for me, I have my sister, Jam!!
We went to numerous K-Pop concerts and events together but one crazy experience really stood out from our memories. It was back in 2012 for the BIGBANG Alive Tour Concert - one of the most fun and most chaotic events we have ever experienced in our lives! LOL My sister and I are huge Bigbang fans so we thought, there’s no way we’ll skip their very first Manila concert. We lined up for like 8 to 9 hours just to secure good spots in the VIP Standing section.
Tumblr media
It was a very memorable experience because we managed to get ourselves exclusive rehearsal passes. Only around a hundred people were given those passes and it’s insane how we got ours out of thousands who wanted the same thing! We got super close to my K-Pop Kings and just thinking about that moment makes me want to scream! Well, another reason why it was memorable is because my sister and I shared chaos that truly tested our endurance and patience haha! Apart from lining up for hours, we had to survive another 3 hours of pushing from the wild crowd. While our entire muscular system hurts badly, we survived TOGETHER. We sang and danced and starved together. We left with endless laughter and shaky fancams together.
We make sure we document pretty much everything when it comes to our K-Pop adventures. So if you are a dedicated fangirl like me, you should always be fully equipped with a camera, extra batteries, powerbank and a hand phone that captures real moments in perfect quality. Oh, and pro cameras are often banned in concerts so going for a hand phone with exceptional camera like OPPO F5 is always ideal!
Tumblr media
While the K-Pop fangirl adventures I share my sister is always worth telling, each moment I share with her, K-Pop or not, is something I will treasure for life.
Tumblr media
To my incredibly beautiful and kindhearted sister, Jam, I know we both hate cheesy stuff as it makes us barf (bad gag reflex lol). But I need you to read this before I marry you off to the love of your life in a few months!! We don’t have to plan anything, as long as we are together. Let’s walk from one shopping mall to another, eat to our heart’s content without worrying about weight gain, spend more time in volunteer ministry work, share my endless makeup supply, watch SECHSKIES live, take thousands of selfies together... I know we’ll never get tired of each other whatever happens! I love you. 너무너무 사랑해 내 제일 예쁜 여동생. Jekki jjang!!! HAHAHA

Thank you for reading!

Ready to #BraveTheCity with Urbanize PH!
Tumblr media
I’ve been a province girl for almost the whole of my life, and it has only been recently (almost three years, to be exact!) since I moved out from my parents’ house because of work and started living in the city. It was a whole new world for me. The noise level was different, no one was there to do chores for me, and I would constantly find myself doing more and more things alone. It wasn’t really lonely, nor was it difficult to adjust. As it was, I actually learned to be more independent, most probably because I couldn’t afford to not to! Haha! With this new adventurous chapter in my life, I needed a companion to help me #BraveTheCity, and there came Urbanize.
Tumblr media
About Urbanize PH - Made for Urban Adventure, made for you
Our story is not about us, it’s all about you, the urban dweller, the weekend warrior, the bus gymnast, the railway athlete and the multi-tasking expert. You inspired us to make products with fashion, function and style.
Indeed, Urbanize serves as the reflection of the rugged city streets, the smart casual weekend hangouts and the busy business districts of the metropolis.  Our story is your own story, our adventure is your own adventure too.
Tumblr media
A few days ago, some selected bloggers and I got invited to an intimate afternoon filled with fun activities courtesy of Nuffnang and Urbanize. We were divided into two teams of five, and were tasked to finish three challenges in the most creative (not to mention competitive! Haha!) manner.
Tumblr media
My group mates. From left to right: Kelly Araneta, Zedrik Europe, Kyna Gem Sy, and JP De Leon.
Tumblr media
After filling our tummies with yummy food from Spatzle, it was time for the challenges! Challenge #1 asked the teams to create and style a look based on four themes using items from the Urbanize store, which their representatives will then showcase on the runway. We were also asked to take photos and upload our entries on Instagram.
Tumblr media
This was the photo that made it to JP’s feed (because he was the one on our team who has the most engagement on Instagram!) Our team chose to do Business Class on Zedrik and Urban Jetsetter on Kyna.
Tumblr media
Zedrik, going down the runway with his Urbanize products.
Tumblr media
Blogger competitions cannot be called true without, you guess it, a flatlay challenge! That was Challenge #2, where we were given a bag full of Urbanize products. The host was to describe each individual product and we were supposed to guess which one she was talking about! After that, we had to roll up our sleeves and take a flatlay photo of what we got in the bag!
Tumblr media
I’ve been doing flatlays since 2011, way back when the actual word was rarely used, so this huge mess of people and hands isn’t at all new to me. It’s just funny from an outsider’s perspective, I think, and probably even weird, when you see a group of people huddled over a bunch of inanimate objects obviously arranged in an aesthetically pleasing manner. And look, we even used flashlights!
Tumblr media
Here’s what we came up with! Again, thanks JP for taking the picture and volunteering to upload it on your feed!
Tumblr media
The fun wasn’t over though! Challenge #3 had us heading back to the Urbanize store to do a Mannequin Challenge. This was my favorite challenge out of the three mostly because it included us posing behind the glass windows where mannequins are displayed (it has always been a dream!) I wasn’t sure how we did, because we were laughing the whole time, but it was super fun!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the fun challenges, we again sat down for refreshments while we listened to Sir Jay Jallorina talk about how to make a career out of Photography. What did I get out of his talk? It’s that in order to establish a name or make a mark in your chosen industry, all you have to do is focus your attention on looking for a problem someone hasn’t solved yet.
Tumblr media
Group photo! Our team didn’t win the challenges, but it was a whole lot of fun interacting and getting to meet new people, and of course exploring the different items from Urbanize, proving just how they can be both fashionable and functional!
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for having us, Urbanize!

Why do i want to be a #BlogOPPOlis creator scholar?
A person who is passionate to her creations has a lot of chances to achieve her dreams. Small or big projects will never go wrong to challenge a creator. It has a lot of process and conditions to step in to the next level. You may have ups and downs in being a creator. You may feel that you wanted to quit and just ended it up but the thing is you dont look back on the days that you wanted to be a creator. The day that you ask yourself, "Am i ready to speak up to the people around me?" "Am i ready to face critization in my works?" and "Am i ready to join the Social Influencers?" Those are the questions that make you who you are today. You may not be one of the known influencers now but don't give up because someday you can ask yourself already "How do i make myself like this?" and the answer is "because you WORK HARD" In my first time to enter the world of blogging, i am not that passionate, i only share my photos and just write a caption on it, i am not into making paragraphs or story because i thought blogging is just nothing. I share any photos that i want even if its nonsense, i don't care what people thinks of it. I also made a lot of websites every year starting from 2013 until 2016 but none of them works for a very long time because i get tired of it. Until last 2017 March, i started a blog again and tell myself I gotta work for it to achieve my dream, to work for brands. Then after that i really work hard to create contents for my blog. I am not into making articles but when i started blogging, i get to deal in making paragraphs and i also enhance my writing skill in school which also help my brain to gather more information like unfamiliar words that i didn't know. I start to create new and lots of contents that works on my blog. I even ask some bloggers for tips in creating blog but most of them ignore me which i take as a challenge for me to work on my own. At first, i was shy to share it to my social media accounts because i know that i will get negative thoughts about my grammar, to be honest I am not that good in english grammar but i try my best to make it right. When i already share my blog to my social medias, i already have a reader and a visitor which is good for my blog. Because I'm still studying and i get to be busy sometimes i dont have a visitor or a reader which tells me that i need to update my blog. Some of my friends and family have their own reactions to my blog, postive and negative. One of the negative reaction is "wala namang kwenta yang blog mo" (Your blog is nonsense) when i heard this reaction i feel sad and thinking to quit blogging because i think she's right but i think of it again, what if i share meaningful contents that will help others. That's when i start to create content that has a sense and that's what I'm working for this summer. I don't know yet what helpful content shall i create and i think that i need to have a small sponsorship for me to create better content for my readers. I hope that my blog will now work for a long time even if i only use my smartphone. So let's get to the main point!! It would be a big chance for a blogger like me if i will be a #BlogOPPOlis creator scholar because it will have lots of benefits listed below: 1. Development of other skills We may have different skills and talents in writing or creating articles that we don't actually develop yet but when the chance to be a creator scholar will be given, it can be the source of the development of your new skill. Especially the skills that would be needed for your chosen professionals which can help a young blogger like me to develop this skills. People Skill - A skill that has an ability to communicate and interact with other people around you. It is better to develop this skill for a creator that can't interact with others for them to boost their confidence. In my case, i can face people but i get nervous in front of them which is a problem in me but if i would be given a chance to be a creator scholar, the people behind this can push me through to the next level and can teach me how to face people with lots of confidence. Think Skill - A skill that has an ability to gather information, understand different things and create new ideas. Developing this kind of skill will really help creators to create more content ideas for their audience. You can develop the ability to think out of the box and discover new thoughts. Honestly for me, I'm having hard time creating content because of lack of knowledge that's why I'm willing to explore other ideas so that i can develop this skill. Actually creators that already develop this skills are successful and growing in our social world. They play a big part in our community as an influencer to improve the economy, that's why for a small creator developing this skills can lead the way to success and growth of their creations. 2. Chance to create bigger project Usually small influencers only focuses on the things around them that's why most of the creators are not growing but if the influencers go out of their comfort zones, it is much better for them to interact with other people and start a collaboration. Then in that collaboration creators are now able to create new and bigger projects than what the creators usually create. In my experience in blogging, i sometimes get stuck on my content ideas which is same as the other one and that is my big problem because of lack if ideas about my surroundings, i intend to do the same instead of creating new ideas. So for me, being a creator scholar would encourage creators to create bigger and knowledgeable contents for their audience. 3. Chance to work with my dream brands Every creators have their dream brands that they want to work with and we all know that being a creator scholar is one of the way to get closer to the brand you dream of working. In that case, it is much challenging for a creator which they also want. The creator will definitely create the best content for the brand to show them how passionate the creator is to them. I have so many dream brands that i want to work with, but as of now i'm only working for myself. I actually applied for a brand ambassador program but definitely it is not that successful like the other influencers. We all had this kind of experience that we get to be down, upset or disappointed but i know that there will be something special that will make my dreams come true, we just need to work hard and show to them that we love what we are doing. Having a chance to work with your dream brands will be a very big gift to every creators, small or successful creators. It's everyone's dream, right? but this chance will only be given if everyone will do their best and prove that we deserve this creator scholar. 4. A path to a successful growth in Social Media Industry All creators wanted to be successful in the Social Media Industry, a blogger or a youtuber. Starting this kind of work is not that easy, you can experience negative and positive result in the social life. But what's the reason why most of the people now are wanting to enter the life of being a creator? a. Their freedom of expression Having a freedom of expression is one of the reason why most of the people now a days are entering the life of a creator. They have their freedom to express their self and their thoughts for others. Some of the creators express themselves through their fashion outfits that they share to their audience. This is a great way for those who are not able to express themselves, plus they can build their own confidence to face people around them. b. To earn money Wanting to start being a creator without any reason? that's not true! because every creator have their own reason and one of it is to earn money. That's not even a joke for a creator because they work hard for their allowance. Some creators may tell us that they don't want to earn money but when the time comes you get bored and tired of your creations, you will ask money already as an exchange to your work hard for them, and that is how you earn money in being a creator. c. To share ideas Always remember that if you start being a creator without any reason, you wouldn't work hard for your creations and you will not success. This is my reason why i started blogging, to share my ideas and thoughts about somethings. Like the others, they have their own ideas which they also share to other people. Sharing ideas is showing that you are not selfish in knowledge that you have, you share without any hesitation and letting your readers also knew about the idea you have. This reasons push us through to be a creator and this is also the thoughts that we look back on when we get tired of being creator. As i can say, this is how a creator grows, we spend time to create new ideas, we explore new things to share, we try new adventures to experience, we learn new information to understand and we meet new friends. But this things only works when we let new people come in to our life to help us to be a successful creator. I had this experience where i rush everything, i want to be successful and to be known as a blogger but what i didn't know is i still haven't done the good things i should be doing as a small blogger and i still haven't encounter challenges that will make me a lot better. Lots of chances to be successful can be seen in every creator. Just don't rush things and take it easy. Take your time in gathering ideas and creating content, you'll never know that after it your success will come. Those are the benefits if i would be a #BlogOPPOlis Creator Scholar. To answer the question " Why do i want to be a #BlogOPPOlis creator scholar?" "I want to be a #BlogOPPOlis Creator Scholar to have the benefits listed above, this is a very helpful way to lead me in my next journey in the social life. Being a creator scholar means i am ready for a challenges that will make my dream do come true. It will not only help myself but also the other creators as well as my audience, i can create much better content ideas and helpful thoughts that can encourage people to enter the world of creators." All creators are deserving to be a creator scholar, they work hard, spending most of the time in front of the computer, going out for a meeting or even exploring by themselves. These people deserves what they wanted and that is to be successful in their life. Good luck to everyone and I hope every creators will meet their success in the future and their dreams do come true. P E A C E O U T !

Getting my Perspectives Right
Tumblr media
I often get so wrapped up in my little life that I forget about the bigger picture out there. Two weeks ago, thanks to Nuffnang, I had the privilege of attending a “dinner organised by Picha Project”.
I was really swamped, and all I knew was that it would be a buffet-style dinner and that the dress code was evening casual!
When I arrived, KL was having a massive traffic jam (what’s new, right?), and the organisers announced that dinner would start at 8pm instead of 7pm, to allow time for the other guests to arrive. (Thank God for appetisers. Chinese weddings should really learn from them.)
There was a big standee at the entrance describing what the Picha Project does, and I wondered for a moment if it were a not-for-profit organisation. Later on, after I chatted with the founders - 3 lovely girls - I learnt that they are a for profit organisation. Rather than giving away fish, they were focused on teaching people how to fish.
The key word here is “empowerment”.
The Picha Project is a catering and food delivery service. Their food is cooked by the refugees from war-torn countries like Syria, who are then able to earn a decent living.
Tumblr media
Did you know that refugees are not allowed to work in Malaysia nor attend schools?
It was really an eye-opener for me.
That night, one of the refugees shared her story. To protect her privacy, we will just call her Mrs. P.
Mrs. P arrived in Malaysia about a year ago, with her husband and 4-year-old son. She spoke of Syria as a beautiful place, until the bombings started. It was heartbreaking seeing the photos of rubble and unrecognisable buildings. They knew they had to leave when she lost her family members due to the bombings.
Her husband was promised housing, education and jobs if they came to Malaysia, but upon arrival, they soon discovered that these were unverified promises, and they had nowhere to live. They literally lived on the streets.
When the 3 founders of The Picha Project, who were volunteering at a refugee-aid organisation then, heard about the plight of these refugees, they felt very strongly the urge to do something. They founded The Picha Project and that is how it all began.
One year later, Mrs. P and her husband had come a long way. They had a small but decent earning, and a roof over their heads.
Then Mrs. P’s husband suddenly fell ill and was hospitalised. It was cancer. He unexpectedly passed away after 2 months.
Mrs. P was calm as she related her story to us. It was only a few months ago that she had lost her husband, and it was evident that she was a strong woman, brave and resolute.
Hearing this story put so much perspective into my life. It’s easy to get caught up with the little irritations, and feel miserable and grumpy about things that don’t go our way, but really:
Life is really beautiful if we acknowledge the abundant blessings we have.
It’s important to stay connected with others, because there’s so much to be learnt. Every interaction is a lesson and an opportunity to gain so much perspective in life.
I’m just glad that I found mine that night.

OPPO F1s: Pinoy #Foodstagram
Meow,
I rarely eat pinoy food but when I do, I eat a lot! My favorite of all time is Inihaw with mangga, kamatis, and bagoong (Grilled with mango, tomotoes, and shrimp paste). Tell me you’re drooling right now.. I like grilled food in general, but grilled seafood is on my top list! There’s a lot of restaurant that offers grilled food in a platter, perfect for sharing with your friends or family. It is an easy meal to prepare that you can also make it at home. Boodle fight!
Tumblr media
Of course, after the main dish you have to have a dessert. Taho (Soy Pudding) is made of silken tofu, sweet syrup and tapioca. My favorite is not the traditional taho, but the flavored one; Strawberry Taho from Baguio City. Taho with a twist!
Tumblr media
Nowadays, there’s a lot of social media savvy that spend a lot of money to take food photography to a next level, making their followers drool. To take a drool-worthy picture, use OPPO F1s. A perfect partner not only for your food photography, but also in taking selfies!
Oppo F1s Selfie Expert has a 13MP rear camera, 16MP front camera, Beautify 4.0, selfie panorama, and you can expand the memory up to 125GB! You don’t need different devices to take with you all time, Oppo F1s is all you need. This sleek, efficient phone is truly the best partner in crime!

Creating Something New From Scratch : This is what I’m doing this year.
matahari jangan tidure, nanti hilang belang (a piece for the masses)
Tumblr media
2019 is the year for trying new things for me. We all try new things every year of course. But 2019 is quickly becoming a larger departure from the usual I guess.
First there’s my new job as Creative Director at Malaysiakini, after spending 5 years with RTV Malaysia, Nuffnang. Malaysiakini is a brand new world for me -click here to read a recent post about what I’m doing at Malaysiakini.
And then, there’s this, “Matahari”. So to my dear friends, hope you can make some time to check out this show slated for 22 - 25 Aug 2019. Stay tuned to me or Theatresauce for updates.
Read on for more of why this is new for me.
Tumblr media
I’ve been involved in the local theatre scene as an actor since 2003. Over the years, I’ve experienced ups & downs in terms of how active I am in the scene. Some years are more active than others. But I’ve never participated in devised theatre before.
What is ‘devised theatre’?
Devised theatre - frequently called collective creation - is a method of theatre-making in which the script or (if it is a predominantly physical work) performance score originates from collaborative, often improvisatory work by a performing ensemble. - wikipedia.
Confession: I've largely avoided getting involved with devised theatre works because I never thought I was good enough to do it.
Tumblr media
Acting in a piece of established creative script that has been researched, work-shopped and developed over time is hard enough. To create something from scratch with a bunch of people and then put on a show? I just couldn’t fathom it before.
What’s changed you may ask?
Am I good enough now? Truth is, I don’t think I will ever think I’m ‘good enough’. But the thing that’s changed is that I now believe that wherever I am as an actor or creative person, I have something to offer.
Perhaps that’s better than being ‘good enough’.
If you’ve read this far into this post. Firstly, thank you. Secondly, leave me a comment or drop me a message with :
1. Do you want to collaborate and create something with me? Let’s talk.
2. Is there a piece of work that I’ve acted in or produced that you’ve liked? Do share. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Good and bad.
Hope to see you at the show!
