So I discovered a new toy called Notebook LM. It is this AI that is similar to ChatGPT but it only analyzes data that you feed it (PDFs, links, even YouTube videos). Then you can ask the AI questions about the material. But get this, that's not even the coolest part. It can even generate a podcast based on what you feed it. (for example the topic of Foster Care). It generates a life-like podcast with two hosts and they explore the topic you want.
You can use this as a way to study. It is capable of breaking down complex topics into bite sized pieces that laymen can understand. You can use this as a learning aid to help you understand topics like financial literacy, understanding your legal rights (employment, housing, personal), reading and understanding contracts and agreements.
I'm totally geeking out over this. I've wanted to make a foster care related podcast for a long time but there has definitely been barriers like finding a host/guest to speak to. Even though I know some former foster youth who expressed interest in podcasting, some of these topics can be pretty painful to revisit. There's also just the hustle and bustle of working full time and barely having any free time for side projects.
Anyways I think it's a really neat tool and people should check it out because it has a lot of utility.

They Assessed Me, and It’s Wild.
Google NotebookLM has a section where their AI will assess your web presence and produce a conversation based on your public work. You feed it links to assess. I searched myself in Google and grabbed the top links, along with my art store, my swag store, and a couple of my YouTube music videos. Listening to this, I thought, “Gosh. AI seemingly knows me better than I know myself!” It made me…

please reblog for a bigger sample size, and to tell me your opinion on AI in general (for instance, you might usually disprove of AI but find it acceptable in this circumstance). thanks!

Okay, so I feel like I should mention that because ChatGPT is something called a language model is super helpful as an aid not a replacement.
I used it during my English class for it to beta read my essays. It has the capability to recognise syntax and grammar errors and fix them in a tone that works within your essay.
It also is helpful as an organisational tool. I had use it to help me structure essays by using prompts like "I want to write an essay about X, and I want to touch topics A, B, and C. Can you help me structure my essay?" Which if you don't know where to start can be incredibly helpful, because it gives you a skeleton to build upon.
I don't know if it has similar structure capabilities for creative writing but I wouldn't be surprised.
At my brother’s suggestion I started to use ChatGPT to generate customized vocabulary lists for the languages I’m studying and unfortunately it’s just as useful as he said it is. I’m very angry about how much faster it is than trying to put together a list yourself.

study tips i wish i knew sooner !
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
these are a few of techniques or study habits which have proved to work for me, personally, i faced challenges such as:
getting overwhelmed with the study material
not knowing the best way to take down notes while i studied
not being able to remember what i studied
not knowing where to start
therefore, if you relate to any of these things, this post just might help you !
★ this post is divided into 3 sections
PLANNING
STUDYING
RESOURCES
a summary of this post: (read below for detailed explanation)
— go thru your syllabus and previous year question papers, mark every topic asked ans prepare those topics first. create a summary sheet for each chapter and use study resources.
1. PLANNING
— go thru your syllabus
it is important to simply your tasks down to the nth so as to avoid getting overwhelmed with the material. for this it’s best to go thru your syllabus and understand what is expected of you from the course. this helps in not feeling shocked and alienated when you immediately jump into the studying the first module and all the information hits you like a truck
— go thru your previous question papers
get your previous years’ question papers and go thru the questions asked. simultaneously mark the topics in your syllabus and after going thru all the questions you’ll see that certain topics get asked more and certain questions are often repeated — you have yourself a study guide !
— make a study schedule
get a calendar and mark the dates leading to your exams or tests. schedule one subject for two days each and try to cover as many modules possible. i personally try to cover 4 modules in two days as i focus on the study guide i created (as talked in the above point)
2. STUDYING
— first try to finish all the topics from the study guide
understand the concepts and topics you have marked in your syllabus so you are prepared on the topics asked previously on the exam which oftentimes gets repeated. with this out of the way, you won’t be overwhelmed with fear of not having anything prepared at all
— finish a topic and teach
this is one of the methods that helps me understand the concept easily. teaching someone out loud makes me focus on the material solely and allows me to catch any information i may have missed to include. you can teach it to a friend or i personally teach it out loud to nothing or myself or to a plushie
— create a doc or write down important notes of each module
after finishing each chapter/ module/ unit, make a note of the important information and the the topics you need to work on again or simply make a doc of everything you learned and use it as a summarised sheet of that particular chapter you can glance at
3. RESOURCES
— notebook lm
turns your notes into a podcast of two people
— xmind
for making mind maps or brainstorming
— watch other people be productive
i watch youtubers like yoora jung, to get into the zone of being productive and studying efficiently. feed your brain media which motivates you to study and use social media to your advantage. look at this post of mine where i mention two study instagram accounts which post motivational videos.

I started using the Google AI thing "notebook lm" where you input your notes and it creates like a podcast of all the information and it makes the content v beginner friendly. I copy and pasted some javascript notes I took from w3 schools and I feel like I have a better grasp about it then before.

Notebook LM Notes: Pod-cast Away
Google's rolling out the AI welcome mat with Notebook LM, an AI tool that transforms your documents into podcast gold.
Who knew your reports had voiceover potential?
Why it matters
AI isn't just a Silicon Valley buzzword—it's a tool small businesses can use to boost creativity and efficiency.
Google’s Notebook LM shows that automation can create content, not just organize it.
With AI, your business can reach new audiences without needing a recording studio or sound booth.
By the numbers
35% of companies are weaving AI into daily operations, according to IBM's 2023 report.
The global AI market's set to quadruple from $86.9 billion in 2022 to $407 billion by 2027 (MarketsandMarkets, 2022).
63% of AI enthusiasts claim it feeds productivity like caffeine on a Monday morning (PwC, 2023).
What they're saying
"AI is probably the most important thing humanity has ever worked on. I think of it as something more profound than electricity or fire," muses Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google.
Use it to spark, expand, and distribute knowledge, and you just might agree with the guy.
The plot twist
Notebook LM takes prompt engineering to the next level with smart delimiters.
Translation? It keeps your content sharp, focused, and as relevant as a meme in your group chat.
No technical wizardry required!
The bottom line
Google’s Notebook LM makes AI-fueled content creation as breezy as an afternoon siesta.
It’s time to hit record and let your documents do the talking.

😅🛒💖
Thank you for the ask, dear!!!!!!
😅 What's a story or scene you've created that you're a smidge embarrassed exists?
Can I answer literally anything I wrote before the age of 20?
If I were to be transparently, embarrassingly honest (as is required on tumblr dot com), I would have to say a truly awful wedding fic I began for [REDACTED FANDOM] when I was about 16. It was so out of character for the show, so cringe, and so, SO 16 of me. I can appreciate it for what it taught me, but also, I would not hesitate to burn it if I found the notebook it was in.
🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.
LET'S TALK ABOUT GRIEF, BABY!!!! Literally all of my characters are grieving something and trying to find their way back to people they're able to recognize as themselves and yet they never truly stop yearning for what once was or could have been.
Also, I'm heavy on the Christian imagery. I can't help it, it's who I am 😌. Other than that, I do love some LM Montgomery-style poetic prose and I WILL use 500 words to describe a sunset without shame.
💖 What made you start writing?
In sixth grade, we had a lesson in English about the proper use of dialog tags. I happened to have a mostly empty notebook and the idea for a story about a super spy who was also a fairy who had water powers and was friends with a mad scientist and a bitter relationship with her aunt who was also a fairy. The rest, as they say, was history.

[S] Hello, Is this Detective Lynne?
[LM] Yes, Who is this?
[S] My name is sissel and I have evidence that might help you on the D99 case.
[LM] H-how do you know that. the fact I'm working on this case?
[S] I'd like to explain it to you, but I worry someone might overhear. Maybe they're listening to us right now.
(There is a noticeable silence between the two- it lasts about 5 seconds)
[S] I want you to meet me at the local junkyard, so I can tell you everything I know about D99.

241,616

Love me Mercilessly -464 Lm Art -137 Rose Colored Glasses- 82 The Rabbit by the River- 39 Anon fic - 200
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! It means a lot to me when ppl leaves commentseven if it’s just a <3 or :) so I always try to respond back or thank them for taking the time to leave me something nice
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Uhhh that I’ve posted—probably rose colored glasses, just because the ending is sort of vague and open ended. Or  the one I posted anonymously is sort of angsty actually
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I guess the long fic once it’s finished…Or some other unposted wip, 17th cent. Japan au will prob be the happiest actuallyy
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I haven’t yet, so thats nice lol
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
yuh, I guess 'porn w plot' lol idk I just like to mash it into my stories when possible, I think it can add to the relationship dynamic in fun ways
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Nope
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Doubt it
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

16. What are your writing strengths?
….. 0_o
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
All of it. I think I get repetitive with my word usage or the the like rhythm and pacing of my sentence structures. Also action sequences are really hard. I think my dialogue is kinda eh too
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Um no thoughts, im not like against it or anything, I just don’t at all trust myself—or google translate—to properly write another in language. But I guess I sometimes will include certain words, or have alluded/implied to characters speaking in another language
19. First fandom you wrote for?
First ever was ATLA, it was written down in my lil notebook  in gel pen, the dialogue was color coded aha, that had to have been like 2006. First I’ve posted online was for Nart in 2022
20. Favorite fic you've written? uhh maybe the unpublished Kashi-Kami 17th century Japan au, she’s an Oiran and he’s a Samurai. Of the published stuff I guess the long fic. I always enjoy little bits of my stuff rather than the whole story.  I have zero idea who to tag, so if you see this and wanna do it please do ! <33 and feel free to tag me so I can see :)

I do tech support for ebooks and other digital resources and I have a few things to add...
Check with students who have previously taken the course to find out which books/materials are actually used to avoid buying unnecessary materials.
If you need print materials, give it at least two weeks to ship. School bookstores are not Amazon and they may have fewer shipping options and expedited shipping may be expensive. Some materials are custom-printed by the school for your course and can't be picked up from Amazon or textbooks.com.
Do buy your digital materials prior to your course start date. But don't activate/access it any earlier than a week before the course start date.
Some materials won't be accessible until your instructor activates a link in your LMS (canvas, blackboard, brightspace, d2l, moodle, etc).
Some materials are only active for a certain number of days and accessing too early could mean losing access before the end of the course.
Some materials have a very short return window. Some materials can only be returned if not accessed/activated, and some digital materials are straight up not returnable/refundable. Please take a look at the policies - whether you're buying from your school bookstore or directly from the publisher.
If you end up dropping a course, start asking about a return ASAP. If you used a book allowance/student account/financial aid, you may be on the hook for materials you purchased for dropped courses.
Don't wait until the night your first assignment is due to try activating/accessing your ebook or other resources. If something goes wrong, you don't want to be emailing your instructor at 11:50pm begging for an extension. Some instructors use that first assignment to weed out students who aren't prepared and weight it heavily.
If you have trouble accessing your ebook or digital resources, here's a few troubleshooting tips to try...
1. Try both typing and copy/paste of codes, try capslock or all lowercase. Try with and without hyphens or spaces
2. Make sure pop-ups and cookies are allowed on your browser. Some links rely on them to work properly.
3. Clear cache & cookies in your browser to make sure there's no old info causing the problem
4. Make sure your browser is up to date. I've seen browsers have issues particularly with textboxes, drop-downs, and redirects when a browser needs an update
5. Try a different browser and/or device - especially if you're on a phone or tablet, get to a laptop/desktop just for the initial redemption, mobile browsers act differently than desktop/laptop browsers
If these things don't work, the next step will be to contact your school's help desk. They can check to see if the link on your course page has any issues (such as it's still directing to last semester's material, or the instructor hasn't activated it properly).
Next, you may need to contact the publisher to verify that your code is correct and hasn't accidentally been used by someone else (some codes are ridiculously similar and a student making just one typo could have accidentally activated someone else's code, also not all returned codes get properly deactivated, so that can cause problems as well).
If you purchased the code from your school's bookstore, you may be referred back to them to return a defective code or do additional troubleshooting.
(see why you should really not be doing this at 11:00 the day your assignment is due at 12?)
Save all links, usernames, and passwords for your course materials in the same place you keep your class notes - whether that's in a paper notebook or a digital document or an email to yourself.
Some materials may only be accessed occasionally, and you don't want to forget where to go to access it or what email/password combination you used. And if you end up using the same platform/provider for a future course, it helps to be able to go back in your notes to remember how to get into it.
Actual good first-time college student advice:
Wear jeans/pants that “breathe” and bring a sweater, even if it’s scorching hot out, until you know which building blasts the AC to 60 degrees F and which feels like a sauna
Backpacks with thick straps are your friend!  Messenger bags are cool and all but if you’re commuting with a lot of stuff, symmetrically styled backpacks are better for your back
You are your own person and you can walk out whenever you need to or want to, so long as you’re not disrupting the class.  Meaning you can go to the bathroom without permission, take a breather if you’re anxious, answer an important phone call, etc.
If you don’t like the class on the first day, if you can- DROP THAT CLASS AND TAKE ANOTHER ONE!  It’ll only get worse from there!
If you can, take a class outside your major; it’s a good break from your expected studies.
You are in charge of your schedule.  Your adviser and guidance counselor is there to ‘advise and guide’ but if you don’t like certain classes and you can substitute for others, that’s your choice.
Consequently, if you are changing anything drastic in your plan, talk with your adviser and instructors.
Pay attention to your credit hours and grades.  Never leave this to the last week of school, you will be sorry and stressed beyond belief!
Unless it’s a lab book or otherwise specified, go to the class for a week or so before buying an expensive textbook.  Some classes, while having it on their required list, do not actually use the textbook a whole lot and you might find some of it scanned online.  Rent if you can or buy used online (schools actually don’t give discounts).  Use your best judgement on what you think you need.
Tell the people who go up to you selling or advertising things you are not interested in that you are in a rush to class and don’t have time to listen to them.  It’s less rude and they’ll leave you alone.
The smaller the class, the better it is to have some sort of acquaintanceship with a couple classmates.  They might save your ass if you are absent one day or need to study.  And talking with them makes the time go by faster without it being so insufferable.
You don’t need to join a club or sport, but internships are cool and useful!
If you can afford it, take a day off once or twice each semester if you’re too exhausted.  Just be aware of what you missed and if it was worth missing!
Your health is the most important, this goes for mental health too!!  Note: College-age/upper teens is when mental disorders like depression and anxiety are most commonly diagnosed.  Most schools have therapy services, especially during exam time.  Look into it if you need to!
Communicate with your professor if you are having trouble with something.  Anything.
Eat and stay hydrated.  Bring a water bottle and snack to class.
All-nighters will happen but never go over 36 hours without sleep.
It’s going to be hard and there will be times you might think about giving up.  This WILL happen.  You just have to make sure what you’re doing isn’t making you absolutely miserable and/or there is something rewarding and positive to look forward to at the end!
