Pink sky at night, sailors delight.
I know less about sailing than I do about the weather. And I’ve no clue what a pink sky means, if it means anything at all. But I love pink and this building, where I’ve spent so much of my life. Maybe I’ll haunt it someday.

Credit for the photos to sweet Sean Krabounratz, who has devotedly documented his community in a way I’ve always appreciated but recently have found to carry an importance I hadn’t realized before. Sean is a storyteller in his own right, using a smart phone and social media as his medium. His pages are wonderful journals, not only about his own remarkable life-one filled with experiences and friends-but also about the lives of those lucky enough to be in his orbit.
Sean took these pictures last winter at one the best little bars in Northern Kentucky. Some things have changed profoundly since that night. 🖤

I think a connection to Newport and Covington would probably be the place to start, but eventually all of those options seem to be vital to have it be more than just a downtown novelty. If we want a functioning public transit system here we need to expand it to people who can actually use it. So yes, expanding it to UC and maybe even NKU would be very important as it gives university students (who often cannot drive or don’t have cars[source: my friends who go to NKU]) the ability to access other parts of the city, especially downtown, in a more efficient cleaner mode of transport than buses. A connection to Union Terminal would also be vital as it would allow train passengers from out of the city to access downtown without the use of private modes of transit such as a taxi or Uber.
However, ultimately, I think what we are missing here in Cincinnati is not more streetcar lines, but rather a real light rail metro system. A streetcar is great in the downtown environment, but we are city built around cars, meaning the majority of the 2,000,000 people in the cincy metro are MILES away from downtown. A streetcar simply isn’t viable for anything beyond a few miles of the central business district.
A proper metro system could enable easy public transit throughout the WHOLE metropolitan area. It would connect the city centre to areas such as Florence, Mason, CVG, Kenwood, Lunken, and more. A truly connected city would enable the sort of car-free or at least car-reduced living that is becoming so important with the onset of climate change.
This could fundamentally change the way our city runs for the better. Yes, it would be very expensive. However, the money put into this system NOW would be paid off in years and years of economic and social benefits for the people of our city. A city where you can get anywhere no matter if you own a car or are too young to drive will be a city where we can be truly free, giving our most disadvantaged residents the access to ALL of our city that they deserve.
Anyways, rant over, I don’t have high hopes that this is achievable. Well, to clarify, I don’t have high hopes that the city and state governments will be putting that kind of money down when auto manufacturers have been preventing it through bribes and lobbying for the last 70 years. But, a girl can dream.
Let's say you are given control of the Cincinnati Government and have to extend the streetcar to better service the City, how do you extend it? Do you expand towards UC, do you cross the river into Dayton and Newport,do you want to build a line to Union Terminal or do you have some other idea entirely.

According to the World Health Organization, cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020, or nearly one in six deaths.
I am hosting a fundraiser to help those affected by cancer receive the care they need. My goal for this fundraiser is $1000. Every penny goes to the Cancer Support Community to help fund the many resources they offer.
Fortunately, many cancers can be cured if detected early and treated effectively. The resources that Cancer Support Community provides include financial and emotional support, community events to raise awareness and donations, and a team of volunteers and social workers to help you every step of the way.
The fundraiser is publicly available on Facebook. You can view it and donate here.
For more information on the services they offer, in addition to other ways you can help, visit their official page at mycancersupportcommunity.org.
