Ok,so I am reading my first manuals on Norse mythology and till now I am bit disappointed 😩
Even though a couple of them was accurate and trustable (by now I learnt to recognize the kind from the way it treats with certain stuff which usually the incorrect books get wrong) I still am unsatisfied because they didn't go deep into the matter as I wished.
I wanna know more details, especially about its characters 😭
Maybe it's time for me to go directly to the prose Edda? What do you say? Advices?
Norse family, I ask for your help ❄

Birthday book haul!
Last year I read ‘The Gatewatch’ by Joshua Gillingham and ‘Truth & Other Lies’ by Lyra Wolf (both are leaning off to the side here) so I was able to get part 2 to ‘The Gatewatch’ and parts 2 and 3 to ‘Truth & Other Lies’.
Last year I also read ‘Northern Wrath’ by Thilde Kold Holt from my local library and absolutely loved it, so my wife got me the entire trilogy.
And I had a little leftover birthday money so I got myself a couple books by Cat Rector about Sigyn and Loki.
(Also was able to get myself a new arm-ring. My previous one has been great; I’ve worn it for about 5 years. But when I bought it, I was looking for something made from steel, because it was strong, inexpensive, and wouldn’t leave a discoloration on my skin. At the time the only style I could find in steel had wolf heads on it, which I was fine with, but ravens are more my style, so I was able to get an update)

Do any of you ever wonder if Camp Half-Blood accidentally brought in a demigod of a different pantheon before?
This would be especially hilarious if it happens sometime after The Last Olympian/Heroes of Olympus, where the gods are required to claim their kids quickly.
A whole day passes, and the new demigod needs to sleep in the Hermes Cabin and Percy is furious. Meanwhile, the Greek Gods are pointing at each other and shouting, contacting the most obscure of mini gods. Chaos erupts on Olympus as every deity in Greek Mythology is called upon and interrogated. Hermes hasn't run around so much in centuries.
Hecate sits in silence, fully aware of what's happening, but enjoying the show too much to intervene.

ever wanted to learn Old Norse but put off by how most resources expect you to have familiarity with Latin grammar?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The viking language series is designed for interested language learners without expecting them to have prior knowledge of other languages. These books use a word-frequency method that speeds up learning and is for students of all levels.
Beginners will be reading Old Norse texts from the first lesson, while advance students have ample vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation for improved fluency. It includes sections of viking history, literature, and myth with extensive maps throughout.
The second volume builds upon the first, and includes a reference grammar and a large vocabulary along with chapters on Eddic and skaldic poetry. Readings that immerse learners in the Old Norse world include complete sagas, runic inscriptions, myths, creation stories, and legends, Eddic poems tell about Scandinavian gods, monster-slayers, dwarves, giants, warrior kings, shieldmaidens, and Valkyries.
Order volume 1 and volume 2 online here, or ask your local bookstore about stocking our editions!

sooooo what's this new fic idea you have in mind? 👀
*Twirls hair*
Soooo are you familiar with the myth of Eros and Psyche?
I was playing around with this idea a while ago, but only recently it clicked when I thought...... what if I combined it with Norse mythology instead of Greek
Basically Hiccup is brought by Jack to his house (for.... ReasonsTM) away from Midgard, for his own safety
The most interesting factor to me is that Hiccup can't ever look at Jack, cue fun scenes where Hiccup has banters with an invisible entity
...until it's night time and ooops to get back to a physical form and sleep Jack has to become visible again, and the problem is that for plot reasons Hiccup can't know who he is
So they form a weird dynamic: Hiccup trusts that Jack is protecting him and not lying, Jack trusts Hiccup to not open his eyes when he's visible
And...... you know where this is going if you know the myth hehehe

My illustration for the cover of 'A Curse Carved in Bone' by Danielle L. Jensen (sequel for 'A Fate Inked in Blood'), done for Del Rey Books/Penguin Random House.
Out May 13, 2025!
Intended to be a darker fiercer mirror of the first cover, I'm so glad they let me do it the way I imagined it!

I don’t usually do book recommendations/reviews on here, but for this one, I had to. This was an incredible read, both because of the depth of description of this specific Norse Pagan practice, but also because of how well-researched it is and the author’s firm stances on inclusion and anti-fascism. There’s an entire chapter section devoted to identifying and condemning fascist movements trying to co-opt Norse Pagan practices, and some of the literature cited to explain fascism are texts that I have used in my grad program (I specialize in Holocaust and Genocide Studies), which was really awesome to see! Definitely highly recommend this book 👍🏼
Also, I’d love to hear your book recommendations! I keep a running wishlist for my books, so let me know what should be added to my list!!

09 Soap, a viking out to kill an enslaving overlord threatening his people and prove himself to earn the status of chief from his father.
09 Ghost who's been sold off as a thrall in the underbelly of the dangerous Zaragoza dunes to a despicable man named Roba and is doing anything to get his freedom back.
They end up crossing paths in Ghost's will to escape and Soap's determination to find the overlord threatening his people. Together they work together with the overarching goal of getting what they each want, Ghost to run from his master and find freedom, and Soap to avenge and save his people.
But... They might end up finding something else along the way. (They might kiss, mwaahaha)
