I know learning how to not use pronouns is tricky, even I have trouble with it!

Despite how difficult it is to get used to, not only can it can be done, but adjusted to not make the flow and rhyme of songs and poems awkward!

I don’t expect you to ever figure this out without getting stuck sometimes, it’s like learning grammar in third grade again, or in a new language. It takes a lot of patience and mistakes to become fluent, and longer to use it in music or poetry, but I’m cheering you on!

To prove it, here’s a version of Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn? by Evelyn Evelyn without the sister’s pronouns! (My attempt, anyway. This could probably be improved upon if I had some more experience, haha. /lh)

Of course, this isn’t intended to replace the original. It’s not like you have to sing this version forever now!

Who’s been known to spend some time

With a sailor friend of mine

3.5 hours of sleep does crazy things to ones brain and by that I mean. Murderbot gender thoughts

#I need to sleep so I can actually DO THINGS tomorrow #[I typed some stuff here but I hated it and deleted it]#and also (like as an it/its user) its very refreshing to see a character who’s gender is just like. don’t care.#and have the lack of care be a tangible stated thing #like its definitely GOOD to have books with trans/non-binary charactwrs where gender is discussed more explicitly #but they always just make me feel vaguely uncomfortable lmao??#so it is nice to have a character who is STATED in the text not to have a gender #but to not have it be a whole big elaborated upon beating dead horse gender discussion #it doesn’t care. that’s it. it uses these pronouns because it does not feel any connection to human gender and doesn’t WANT to #I’m definitely not analyzing this as deeply or as well as other people can for many reasons (one being. I am on 3.4 hours of sleep at 1am)#but just as a genderless person it feels very natural and comfortable to read #it’s the sort of thing where yes if it got discussed more plainly in text then maybe it wouldn’t get misgendered #but 1) it is already so obvious and 2) it won’t even talk about it’s FEELINGS #it explicitly says it doesn’t care about gender at ALL. in what world is MB going to have an in-depth talk about it’s identity like that #also idk I think it’s interesting to have it humanized in ways other than ‘we gave it human gender’ you know. feels like a cop out.#have it fuck up big time like an actual person

Had a dream where I was back in high school in a math class and my teacher was just. Incredibly disrespectful about my identity/pronouns. So I swapped to the other math class section with a different teacher

And new teacher didn’t use my pronouns either, but it still felt better. And then someone broke my desk. And someone asked me if I made the right choice swapping, because neither teacher used my pronouns, right? And I just had this moment of such clarity, of, “yeah, he doesn’t use my pronouns. He doesn’t always use the right name. But you know what? He’s angry someone broke my desk, and I know that if he finds out who it was, they would be in trouble. And it wouldn’t be like that with the other teacher.”

Just. Utter clarity of the definition between someone who doesn’t understand pronouns but still sees me as a person deserving of safety vs. someone who maliciously doesn’t use my pronouns as a way to communicate disrespect and thinks that means I don’t deserve to be safe

#my dreams #rip to my high school history teacher who got cast as the villain #but also neither of these teachers were math teachers #it was my highschool history teacher and my high school art teacher?#very out of character for my history teacher. but honestly pretty in character for the art one #do I think my old art teacher would have used my pronouns? no #do I think he would have bitten then head off of someone who was messing with me? yes absolutely #terrifying man. used art as a coping mechanism for his war experience. 10/10 #I think this dream is a reaction to my new job actually #sat down and had a very emotional but helpful conversation with my director about pronouns and use of them with clients #my supervisor is a queer elder who is confused but supportive #told me that if non-binary were as known as it is today back then supervisor might also identify with it #but supervisor is apparently too old to come out *again*#which what a mood #man being non-binary is fucking hard #nothing but respect for my fellow they/thems and neo-pronoun users this shit is EXHAUSTING #also shoutout to the dream bit where bad teacher was like ‘haha and is that an apple’ when I was holding a banana #and I just fully ignored him. didn’t even acknowledge the ‘joke’#an iconic move if I don’t say so myself
