I have had a fanon universe exist in my head ever since I stopped buying Marvel comics in 2012. I seldom post about it because the truth is I'm not much of a writer. I have ideas, I like writing character interactions and I love the hyper-connectivity of a super-expansive universe. There are at least 5 years of planning for an entire line of Marvel books in my head and I'm finally posting about one.
Marvel have announced this new Captain Marvel story called “The Last of the Marvels” and the likely misleading initial promotional stuff seems to suggest the return of the old Captain Marvels, or at least Genis-Vell. I'm sure the story will be exactly what you expect, Carol Danvers getting patted on the back by all past Captain Marvels and told she is better than they ever were. This post isn't about speculation or petty criticism but one of my first imagined crossovers features the same basic idea of bringing back the old Captain Marvels for a celebration of the Captain Marvel legacy.
“Negablast”[1] would be a 6-issue miniseries that debuts in Month 4 of the Anachroverse. It would be the first major crossover. Outside of the core miniseries, there would be tie-ins in the Cosmic books (Guardians of the Galaxy, New Champions[2], Infinity Watch, Nova and Silver Surfer) as well as a single issue tie-ins, more loose in nature, in books that have a very minor connection (Avengers, Agents of Atlas) and fleeting mentions in others (Thunderbolts, New Warriors).
The main series would star the trio of Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers), Photon (Monica Rambeau) and Quasar (Wendell Vaughn). The plot is that the Kree Supreme Intelligence wishes to “evolve” and so it seeks to supplant Epoch and become “the new Eon”. There is a whole backstory and justification to the Supreme Intelligence coming to this conclusion[3]. Supreme Intelligence has a squad of servants[4], including but not limited to the Kree Starforce, which carry out his orders, fight the heroes and attempt to slay Epoch or any of his connections. Another integral character in the mix is Noh-Varr who initially is gaslit and follows the Supreme Intelligence's orders. Halfway into the story, he becomes enlightened to what is going on and switches sides which brings us to a “third party” to all this and that is the three dead Captain Marvels. Mar-Vell is, quite frankly, the main character in this despite really only showing his face nearer the end. Genis-Vell and Phyla-Vell are both brought back and more on that later when we get to more plot stuff.
I'm trying to pare this down and not bothering with all the individual parts (which in turn makes it sound like a mess tbh) but the core idea here is a celebration of Captain Marvel and his legacy. But before that, this is where the continuity and continuity clean-up starts overshadowing the story (as expected from me). First, we have Epoch shed the facade of Eon that he was seemingly worn since the end of Quasar's series[5]. We learn that Epoch is still a child and he will not truly become “Eon” for possibly centuries. He has been appearing that way to disguise his own vulnerability[6]. Secondly, we learn that when the Supreme Intelligence made Noh-Varr into The Protector in Bendis' Avengers, this was part of his whole “becoming the new Eon” thing[7]. We get some added context to Phyla and Gravity and their stints and/or holders of the title Protector of the Universe[8]. Remember when Mar-Vell returned in Chaos War and then gifted Deathcry with Cosmic Awareness?[9] All these little stray ideas I’ve taken and tried to make into a story to push Carol, Wendell and Monica into the spotlight as the “true” legacy of Captain Marvel.
So, our main similar plotbeat to Last of the Marvels is the return of Captain Marvels. For mine, we have Noh-Varr dispatched to slay the Priests of Pama who he is told are attempting to resurrect a great evil. When he gets there (and after a fight with the heroes), he learns he has been lied to and they have an Adam Warlock-style cocoon which actually holding Phyla-Vell's body[10]. Apparently, she can't enter this world because she is “incomplete”. I'm skipping all the continuity here but suffice to say there is some[11] for the end-point that is Phyla emerges but now shares her form and is bonded to Genis-Vell ala the way Rick was to Mar-Vell and Genis (they clang their nega-bands together and switch places)[12]. Speaking of Rick, he’s in the plot but a tertiary character.
Big finish is, and this is doing such a disservice to this story to be so quick with it, but we have big astral Cosmic entity Mar-Vell versus big astral Cosmic entity Supremor. Alongside Mar-Vell is basically all the Marvels – Captains, Boys, Girls – and it's just a big George Perez style mess of appearances[13]. Bad guy is beaten once and for all[14] and Mar-Vell can return to his peace, but before he does he gets to give heartfelt farewells to his legacy:
Carol Danvers – “You kept my legacy alive and are the best I could ever be”[15]
Monica Rambeau – “You honoured my memory the most faithfully of all; by simply being a hero”[16]
Wendell Vaughn – “I feel a great relief knowing that the Universe is being protected in my stead by one such as you”
Genis/Phyla – “My children... I'm so very proud of you both and my biggest regret is not being there to make it all easier for you.”[17]
Khn'nr – “There's no greater sense of my legacy as a hero than knowing that I inspired and live on through another, of a race bred to despise me”[18]
Noh-Varr – “Of all, you are perhaps the one I see myself in the most. An outsider on Earth, used manipulated by greater powers... but above all else, knowing what is right and what is wrong and when to act on it.”
Hulkling – “I know you are plagued with doubt as to your true parentage but I would be more than happy to call you son.”[19]
Rick Jones - “Rick... you were... you are... my best friend. Thank you for everything.”
Genis/Phyla are left alive but adopt a new name (Sentry[20]), Khn'nr too maybe but who knows if he ever does anything else. The ending would be Mar-Vell departing and leaving the name of Captain Marvel as free “for someone else out there”. Just then a lightning bolt cracks and the comic ends.[21]
[1] A portmanteau of Captain Marvel's nega-bands and the Quasar crossover Starblast. [2] New Champions is basically the Annihilators-esque team led by Nova. They're named after Nova's old squad the Champions of Xandar. It took me 7 years to finally settle on a name for them because I disliked Annihilators as a name so much. [3] Riiiiiight, here we go. Supreme Intelligence has seen the Kree race itself evolve – in fact he forced that to happen. However, Supreme Intelligence has never truly evolved itself since it was introduced. It's gotten bigger, it's gotten smarter, it's gotten more evil. But it's still just a big head in a jar basically. It knows it needs to adapt and become something more which leads us back to Secret Wars II of all places. Supreme Intelligence was among the entities called into service to confront the Beyonder. This was the only time the Supreme Intelligence was considered among the Universe's powerful Cosmic beings, it gave it a taste of what it could be and what it should be. It believes it should be ranked among the Universe's great forces, it is the gestalt of an entire race, but that is not enough it seems. Eon became the entity that got locked into the Intelligence's crosshairs down to it's “usurping” of Mar-Vell as an agent. Learning of Eon's passing and replacement with Epoch (inadvertently from Genis-Vell), Supreme Intelligence has recognised that the station of Eon is at it's weakest and it's the easiest time to destroy Epoch and inherit that role itself. [4] We have the Kree/Starforce (Doctor Minerva, Captain Atlas, Ultimus, Shatterax and new additions Arides and Wraith) and we initially have Noh-Varr. We also have a very robust cast of ones that are serving greater interests or ulterior motives: Maelstrom, Ereshkigal, Mangog and very very briefly Thanos (can't have a Captain Marvel story without him). As Maelstrom is there, we also have Maelstrom's minions including Gronk, Helio, Phobis, Deathurge and the Weird Sisters. And the evil Marvel Boy from Quasar's series. They are largely confined to tie-ins. In fact, even Mangog is mostly a side-story – Supreme Intelligence dispatches him to ravage the Shi'ar empire, a petty move in retaliation for the Shi'ar's victories against the Kree. [5] After Starmasters #1, Eon's spawn Epoch only made further appearances as the classic Eon and at times was even just called Eon. [6] Including (but not limited to) Infinity Gauntlet, Marvel Universe: The End and that Fantastic Four story with Gravity. [7] A lot of my early fanon stuff is trying to make sense of Bendis stories within the context of the larger functional Marvel Universe. The truth is, I believe, Bendis simply didn't know that it was Eon not the Supreme Intelligence, who bestowed Mar-Vell with the Protector of the Universe stuff. [8] Phyla-Vell was not Protector of the Universe but Epoch allowed her to hold onto the Quantum Bands until the return of Quasar. When the need arose, Epoch turned to Gravity rather than Phyla-Vell to act as his champion. Still expecting the resurrection of Quasar, Epoch did not seek to make or force Gravity into continuing as Protector. [9] Mar-Vell became aware of Supreme Intelligence's plans upon his brief resurrection in Chaos War: Dead Avengers #1-3 and so in that short-time tried to shift some things around to ultimately aid the heroes when the time came to oppose Supreme Intelligence. This meant bestowing Deathcry with his power so that it didn't perish with him. [10] Since her death at the beginning of Thanos Imperative. [11] Genis accidentally created Phyla, don't forget. [12] I think this is a unique enough set-up to allow both of them to exist without it being the case that I'm just bringing them back for the sake of it [13] Let's see... all 6 of the Marvel Captain Marvels – Mar-Vell, Monica, Genis, Phyla, Khn'nr, Noh-Varr. All the Ms. Marvels – Carol, Sharon Ventura, Karla Sofen. Plus the Marvel Boys – Robert Grayson, Wendell Vaughn, Vance Astrovik, that kid Vance gave the costume/name to who never appeared again. Marvel Girls – Rachel Summers. We'd have Major Victory, Gravity and the kid from Marville. Definitely forgetting some here. I had a huge big list. [14] Supreme Intelligence would be taken off the cards forever. His gambit fails but maybe one day, the Kree could create a new one... [15] Some light pay-off for her “best of the best” stuff. [16] Monica presents a problem in that she has no real connection to Captain Marvel besides the name. But then ironically, she has been the best hero of the bunch. [17] I went through so many different iterations of this over the years, and so many back-handed compliments like “Well, you tried!”. [18] Oh, yeah, him. I think this was a character that I needed in this story because so many people would overlook him – and I really do believe that there was something worthwhile in the character originally – but I don't see resurrecting him as a particularly good decision. It would seem cold to have him return to being dead while Genis and Phyla get to live but I have thought about him staying alive (he'd adopt the name Crusader, after that other Skrull guy who died fighting for Earth in Secret Invasion) but I think he should just be allowed to maintain his warrior's death or whatever. [19] Okay, yeah, Hulkling's parentage would be in doubt. I’m surprised it took this long to get to something where I have to explain another story in this fanon universe. This is mainly because I don't like the retcon – it really takes me out of that story to think that amidst the Kree/Skrull War, Mar-Vell found time to have sex with a woman he just met and has no chemistry with - but I don't think I'd ever say he couldn't be Mar-Vell's son. Just that it's a possibility he's not. [20] Sentry. Named after the Kree Sentry. Genis proposes the name and in classic Genis-style it's already a name that was used prominently by someone else and again someone he even met. [21] Yep, all to the purpose of getting rid of the Captain Marvel name for a fanon DC Universe that doesn't even exist in my head.

Royals #10 Review
spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers
The Royal squad have finally made it to the mysterious World Farm, the hone of the god-like Progenitors; yet meeting their makers does not prove to be peaceful affair. With script by Al Ewing, pencils by Javier Rodriguez, inks by Alvaro Lopez, and colors by Jordie Bellaire. Full recap and review following the jump.
Retracing the trajectory of a SkySpear, the Inhuman spacecraft, The Asterion, has ventured deep into the unknown regions of the cosmos and finally come upon the incredible sight of the World Farm. This farm is something of an artificial solar system, with numerous planets encased in synthetic orbs, connected to each other and encircling a larger planet at its center, acting as a sun with its blazing furnaces. It’s a rather difficult speckle to try and describe… in short it looks like this:
Coming into range of the closest of these artificial planets, a Harvester Class Progenitor becomes aware of the approaching Asterian and forces the craft to come to an immediate halt with a mere gesture of its massive hand. Within the Asterian, young Flint is continuing to go through some strange type of transformation. His laying hands on the SkySpear on NovaHala has clearly had a dramatic effect on him. His hand and now forearm has become encase in some kind of crystalline substance, translucent so that the bones of his hand and arm are visible.
Furthermore, what Flint has gone through seems to allow him to sense the Progenitors’ intentions. He realizes the Harvester Class Progenitor has identified them as a foreign body and potential threat to its crop. Realizing their ship is about to be destroyed, Flint acts quickly and emits from his hand a giant crystal orb that contains him and the other, protecting them as the Progenitor’s gesture causes the Asterian to explode.
Medusa issues orders quickly and the others follow her command. Crystal uses her powers to create a breathable atmosphere within the orb; Flint hurdles the orb itself toward the main planet of the farm; and Noh-Varr utilizes his pocket battlefield to protect them all from the impact of the crash. All of this is just wonderfully depicted in a great splash page from the art team of Rodriguez, Lopez and Bellaire.
They crash land into the bowls of the main planet, finding within it a strange realm of artful structures that seem to be some kind of combination of botany and technology. The air is breathable, but tastes odd. The strain of his actions has caused Flint to pass out... more alarming, the crystalline substance that had grown over his hand and arm appears to be spreading, it has spread over half his body exposing and making visible the bones of his skeleton. As gruesome as it appears, it doesn’t seem to be causing him any pain and there isn’t time to fully take in or address what exactly is happening to him.
Noh-Varr had touched the SkySpear on NovaHalla as well. Though it did not effect him as profoundly as it has Flint, Noh-Varr is able to understand the nature of this strange world to a heightened degree.
The World Farm appears to be both organism and machine, an intricate computer made up of organic hardware brought to life by a liquid blood composed of trillions of quantum processors, mini-computers the size of molecules. The whole planet is a computer, it is alive and aware and it can certainly detect the presence of foreign bodies. The Progenitors are aware that The Royals have survived and know exactly where they are. As if on cue, an Ordinator Class Progenitor arrives to eliminate the unwelcome guests.
Like the World Farm itself, the giant Progenitor appears to be both organism and machine, a giant anthropomorphic mechanism with a floating orb in place of a head. The Ordinator Class Progenitor acts something like a maintenance program, identifying errors in the code and attempting to eliminate such errors so that the system as a whole will run as it should.
The Royals run from this colossal being, the others dashing off as Gorgon carries the unconscious Flint. Crystal uses her elemental powers to cover them, erecting a wall of rock and sediment between them and the Progenitor. The Progenitor tears through this wall and fires a laser beam from its eye that strikes her near the ankle.
Crystal continues to fight, using her powers to take control of the air and moisture around the Progenitor’s head, compressing it to blind their attacker and take out its laser-firing eye. Medusa takes up her injured sister assisting her as they all continue their desperate effort to escape.
Maximus, meanwhile, has had enough of running away. These beings are androids, but they nonetheless have brains… minds made up of artificial tissue and liquid processors. Maximus has been manipulating minds for as long as he can recall and he feels confident that he can seize control of a bio-mechanical mind with the same effect as he can an organic mind.
Yet as Swain points out, their mutual powers act to cancel each other out, that Maximus is left powerless as long as Swain is in his proximity. Maximus disagrees, arguing that their powers only nullify each other because they don’t act in concert. Maximus can manipulate cognition whereas Swain manipulates emotion; he is ego whilst she is id. All they have to do is work together and their abilities will be enhanced rather than canceled out.
Swain agrees to give it a shot and the two work toward aligning their powers. It is a struggle at first, but soon Max’s supposition is proven correct and their two powers act as a sort of potentiate, becoming much more powerful than the sum of its two parts. Together, Max and Swain’s consciousnesses reach out, they can feel the enormous mind of the World Farm, its near endless physical structure akin the neural pathways of a brain.
They could become lost in the vastness of it all, but Maximus orders that they focus themselves on the workings of the Ordinator Class Progenitor that has been pursuing them. They concentrate their psychic connection on this being and Maximus squeezes his fist. It is too much for the Progenitor and its orb like head implodes.
The threat has abated, but only for the moment. Elsewhere on The World Farm, the whole ordeal has been monitored by the Overlord-Class Progenitor and its enforcers.
The Overlord reaches its hand forward as if to make a decree and utters a single phrase: ‘End/Threat.’ And it is on this ominous note that the issue comes to an end with the promise of continuation int he next installment.
There’s a lot of cosmic, high-concept stuff at play here. And while learning more about the Progenitors and the way-out coolness of the World Farm is hugely interesting and fun, it also acts to sort of swallow up the characters; the neat development we have been seeing for Medusa, Gorgon and Maximus takes a backseat as The Royals are essentially fellow passengers in this wild ride of exploring the World Farm.
One of the things I have been the most interested in is how The Progenitors were going to be differentiated from The Celestials. At first blush, the two seemed to be quite similar, yet Ewing and company do a nice job of showing off the differences. Whereas The Celestials are space gods in the mold of Erich von Däniken-style astro-theism, The Progenitors seem to be machines that have hyper-evolved... developing into a techno-organic conglomerate that proliferates by way of growing itself like sewn and harvested crops. It’s an exciting concept, kind of a combination of Stanisław Lem’s Solaris and the planet, Cybertron from the old Transformers cartoon.
I’ve no idea whatsoever how The Royals can possibly stand a chance against such an overwhelming power, much less how they can hope to obtain a new source of Terrigen from these near-omnipotent beings. My best guess is that it all has to do with the alarming transformation that young Flint is going through. It would seem that Flint has bonded with the crystalline material that makes up the SkySpear, that it is changing him as well as likely augmenting his powers.
It’s rather clear at this point that Flint is destined to become the Moon King, the powerful and monstrous being that Maximus and Noh-Varr seek out some five thousand years in the future. This also makes it seem pretty certain that Flint will be the member of the team who doesn’t make it back. It’s not that he will die, but rather he will become transformed into something huge and unrecognizable from his former self. It’s all quite cool, but also saddening in that this turn of events will essentially take Flint off the table for… well, forever.
Rodriguez, Lopez and Bellaire work wonderfully together in bringing to life this wild and bizarre world, an amalgam of biological and technology awash in shapes and colors that are totally foreign and alien yet in tune with its own, unique sense of natural. The World Farm is a welcome addition to the cosmic locales of The Marvel Universe and I’m very much looking forward to seeing how The Royals might manage to survive this adventure.
Once more, as much as I enjoyed exploring this wild alien realm, I would have liked to have seen a bit more from the characters themselves. The dialogue leaned a bit on exposition as Noh-Varr and Maximus explained their theories about what exactly the World Farm might be. The issue moved at such break neck speed that I didn’t really get the chance to take in what is happening to Flint, how exactly Maximus and Swain managed to combine their powers, what the deal is with Gorgon’s aching back, or how being so close to the Primagen might be effecting Medusa’s illness. Of course, it’s also entirely possible that I just read the issue too fast in that I was so curious and excited to see what was to happen :3 Definitely recommended. Three and a half out of Five Lockjaws.

headcanons about Teddy and Luna if you have any? :D
Teddy
His “human” form is a Kree form and he’ll correct you on that! He resents that people believe he’s impersonating a human when he tries to hard to live authentically.
He has two different but equal “true forms” which he can revert to when he’s completely relaxed, a Kree form and Skrull form. He goes Kree around Earth civilians but enjoys being Skrull in mixed company.
Teddy’s true forms are tall and muscular, but they’re not the perfect Adonis physique that he simulated in high school. He has “imperfections” like moles and body hair and a little tummy chub. Billy was the first person Teddy ever showed his native forms to and it took him a while to become comfortable wearing them in public.
Teddy identifies as a bisexual demi boy. He IDs as male and has the form a cis male, but he considers himself a person of trans experience bc he switched a lot as a young child and only settled around age 5. (the bi thing is totally non canon and only a whim of mine)
Teddy loves to draw and paint! He’s considering pursuing an art degree now that he’s in-between hero gigs. He does gorgeous pencil drawings and really loves oil paint.
Teddy is a “legal American citizen, but only because Sarah forged their papers. Some of the Avengers pulled a few strings to cover up things up after Mary-Jo died.
Teddy is very much a geek but also has some bro-ish hobbies like sports and competitive multiplayer games. He was a social bridge between Billy and the rest of the team in their early days bc Billy was socially inept and only into super weird stuff back then.
He can’t retain real tattoos but he’s played around with shifting them onto his skin before. It’s a complicated exercise that has helped him hone his control, but it’s impossible to maintain long term.
He’s good friends with Noh-Varr and Kamala Khan. He has also had a few lunches with Carol bc he wanted to ask her about his father. He’s yet to meet Phylla, but wants to.
In his native Skrull form, Teddy keeps his blond hair but it becomes darker and stiffer, taking on a metallic sheen. His scales are also glossy and flecked with gold- Xavin once commented that this luxurious quality is uncommon among Skrull and would be difficult to achieve for one of pure blood.
Luna
During Luna’s stay at Serval, Pietro took her to meet Billy and Tommy. She and Tommy got along famously, of course, and Luna thinks it’s really funny how alike he is to Pietro. The three of them still hang out from time to time- Tommy likes to sneak her away from school to go hang out in foreign countries, and Billy will have to teleport around searching for them.
Billy and Wanda have both observed that Luna’s empathic abilities are similar in nature to their own psionic mutations. Whether Luna will ever be capable of magic remains to be seen, but the two witches keep a close eye on her psychic development and are ready to help if she ever needs it.
Luna became close with her cousin Ahura during his time with the Future Foundation. Ahura has met Billy briefly during the battle against the Mother parasite, but Luna reintroduces her cousins to each other later and the three of them have become the Luna Protection Squad. (Luna is a unifying force- Lorna and Erik both love her as well)
Luna is approaching her early teens! She wants to experiment with her hair so Tommy buys her a bottle of pink dye and she colors a few of her little braids. Crystal is less than thrilled, Pietro thinks it’s great.
Luna’s eyes glow golden when she is focusing her powers. Other psychics will perceive her mental presence as a subtle gold glimmer. Billy and Wanda have both noticed that her golden energy signature is a lot their their respective blue and red magical energies- this is what leads them to believe that her powers are linked more to their side of the family than to Crystal’s.
She still lives mainly in Britain and is developing a slight accent. It’s very cute, but it makes people even more confused when the blonde girl with the British accent says the silver haired man with the Serbian accent is her father and the green-haired American woman is her aunt.
i dont have anything else for Luna in 616, I’m sorry. I wish she was in more comics :(

Next week, the Inhumans take their first big step into the world of TV when Inhumans arrives on ABC. We’ve told you about the origins of Marvel’s weird mutants in the past, but what are they up to in the comics right now? If you’re looking to dive in before Inhumans arrives, this is what you need to know.
A Huge Cloud of Terrigen Mists Came and Awoke Tons of New Inhumans
Okay, it didn’t really “come”—it was released from a bomb made by the King of the Inhumans himself, Black Bolt. Long, weird story short: Thanos the Mad Titan found out he had a bastard son of Inhuman descent, Thane, so he came to Earth scouring the world for his child, who had been kept hidden among a tribe of Inhumans who had not gone through the transformative process of being exposed to the Terrigen mists. Thanos’ offer to Earth was simple: The Inhumans could hand over Thane, or they could hand over the heads of every Inhuman young adult between the ages of 16 and 22.
Oh, and he’d destroy the world. Because he’s Thanos and that’s a very Thanos-y thing to do.
Naturally, the Inhumans disagreed, so when Thanos arrived in Attilan to claim his tribute, all he found in the city was Black Bolt, and a great big bomb of Terrigen crystals he’d created to try and initiate Terrigenesis on as many people as possible, hoping to hide Thane from Thanos’ sight. One superpowered scream that destroyed Attilan later, Black Bolt activated the bomb, creating a huge cloud of Terrigen that enveloped most of the Earth.
This cloud started activating an unprecedented number of Inhumans across the globe, leading to a huge surge in their population that would come to be known as “NuHumans,” given the sudden shared nature of their ascendance to Inhumanity. This is the event that gave us a ton of the currently active Inhumans in the comics, including Ulysses, the future-predicting star of the Civil War II event, as well as Kamala Khan, the now-beloved Ms. Marvel.
Now Its Gone, Because It Was Killing the X-Men
The royal family regrouped in New York, using the ruins of Attilan to forge a new home dubbed New Attilan floating above the Hudson River. With so many new Inhumans emerging, the Royals found themselves thrust onto an international stage that they were unused to, having to deal with both helping newly-transformed Inhumans coping with their powers, as well as the prejudice of the general public, fearful of the mysterious cloud and its transformative effects.
Soon, they had another problem to deal with, as Terrigen and Earth’s atmosphere don’t really mix that well. (That’s actually why, back in the ‘80s, the Inhumans had to leave Earth and resettle Attilan on the Moon.) The Terrigen Cloud, which had this point had split into two different cloud masses making their way around the globe, had mutated in the time it had spent in Earth’s atmosphere... to the point that it was now toxic to Mutants. Sorry, Mutants!
Now, when a Mutant was caught in the mists, they’d develop a disease called M-Pox—a plague that slowly but surely debilitated them, sterilized them, and ultimately killed them. As the population of Inhumanity across the world surged, Mutantkind was dying out. The X-Men, now operating from the hellish plane of Limbo to keep themselves safe from the mists, were called into action to protect the Mutant population, but eventually triage was not enough. The Terrigen clouds were about to reach a level of complete global saturation, which would render Earth completely uninhabitable for Mutants.
Emma Frost and Cyclops (well, sort of—it’s eventually revealed Cyclops was one of the first victims of M-Pox, and Emma had been keeping his death a secret by psychically projecting a version of Scott into everyone’s minds) and a faction of Mutants attempted to destroy the clouds so they could survive. They succeeded in destroying one of them, but not without a few losses—including “Cyclops,” who was seemingly killed by Black Bolt in retribution. Eventually, after the Mutants declared all-out war on the Inhumans, Medusa voluntarily destroyed the second cloud herself and abdicated from the throne, knowing that the wider Inhuman populace wouldn’t understand why she would choose to disperse the cloud that was the lifeblood of her people.
Medusa’s Hair Fell Out, and She’s Also in Space
When Medusa chose to destroy the Clouds, it’s explained, she destroyed all the remaining Terrigen on Earth, depriving the Inhumans and latent Inhumans alike the chance to activate their powers, and thus a major part of their culture. As a result, the Terrigen in Medusa’s body began to more or less “punish” her for effectively ending new Inhuman activations by robbing her of her signature red, prehensile hair.
As Medusa’s hair fell out in chunks, the gravity of her decision began to finally set in for the rest of the Inhuman population. That’s when Marvel Boy (Noh-Varr) helpfully mentioned that the key to creating more Terrigen is supposedly located on the Kree homeworld Hala. So, Medusa did what any sensible leader of a dying race would do: she rallied a crack squad of other superheroes and took off into space to find Hala and, hopefully, a new future for her people.
Black Bolt’s Been Making Friends in Space Jail
You’d think that by this point, the Inhuman Royal Family would know better than to have any interaction with Maximus beyond keeping him locked up in a cell where he can’t cause all of Inhumanity any more problems. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Recently, Maximus attempted to stage another unsuccessful coup (coups are his thing) that landed him in a holding cell while Black Bolt and Medusa decided what to do with him.
Ultimately, Black Bolt reasoned that it would be in everyone’s best interest if Maximus was shipped off to an ancient Inhuman prison located in deep space, which was a very good idea right up until Maximus managed to knock his brother out and switch places with him. Black Bolt was sent to the Inhuman space prison, which he discovered is actually a horrifying citadel of torture (still in space) where inmates are repeatedly murdered and resurrected in an endless cycle of fatal torture. Currently, Black Bolt has teamed up with the Absorbing Man Crusher Creel, Raava the Skrull, and his teleporting dog Lockjaw to stage a massive breakout and free all of the people still trapped in the prison.
The Inhumans Left On Earth Are Still Recovering From Secret Empire
It’s not just the Royal family who’ve had a rough time lately—especially since Marvel’s US has been under the iron rule of Hydra for most of the year, led by an evil, fascist version of Steve Rogers in the pages of Secret Empire. Hydra’s rule involved the involuntarily imprisonment of all Inhumans, putting them into work camps (not a good look at a time when Marvel wanted you to believe that the organization had moved on from its historic ties to the Nazi party).
Inhumanity was either imprisoned or forced to go on the run in a country that now feared and hated them. After fascist Steve was defeated (in a small way thanks to an Inhuman named Barf who could literally vomit up an item he visualized in his head, granting the resistance a piece of a Cosmic Cube that helped bring back the good Steve Rogers), Inhumanity was left in an uncomfortable place, trying to re-integrate into a society that had, days and weeks beforehand, considered them subhuman degenerates and racially discriminated against them. The process isn’t over yet, but it’s helped along by the fact that at the end of Secret Empire it seems like most Americans conveniently forgot their shocking racism against the Inhumans the minute Stevil Rogers was defeated and imprisoned.
Look, this event was a lot.
And the Best Story You Can Read About Them Right Now Takes Place Years in the Past
The Inhumans have been through so many twists and turns that making sense of their history can be something of a daunting task. While there are definitely benefits to going back and reading some of their classic stories, one could also read Christopher Priest and Phil Noto’s Once and Future Kings, which tells the story of how Black Bolt came to be king and how Maximus came to hate his brother.
Once and Future Kings is set in the distant past when its cast of characters were all still young (by Inhuman standards), but there’s a precise crispness to Priest’s take on them all that feels like a very satisfying distillation of who they are as people. If you’re completely new to the Inhumans, this is where you should start. Don’t worry if it doesn’t make sense, just enjoy the ride.

All Alright by Fun. is a gr8 Noh-Varr song if you like sadness, just putting that out there
(I particularly like how this fits into the evil exes arc:
“and now all my loves have come back to haunt me, my regrets in texts sent to taunt me, I never claimed to be more than a one night stand”

Lets get to know Marvel Boy
With next month’s Inhuman Prime and the upcoming series, The Royals, the extra dimensional Kree adventurer known as Marvel Boy will be joining the ranks of The Inhumans.
Marvel Boy (also known as Noh-Varr) has a long and complicated backstory. He is additionally an exceptionally cool character and if there is to be a non-Inhuman member of the Royals squad then I can think of few better candidates. So whats the back story on this guy?
Get all the details following the jump
Noh-Varr was a member of the 18th Kree Diplomatic Gestalt originating from an alternate reality (Earth 200080 to be exact). He and the crew of their dimension-hopping spacecraft, The Marvel, were investigating a clash between Astro Gods that threatened the longstanding peace between The Kree and Skrull Empires of their dimension.
Caught in the crossfire between these waring Astro-Gods, the Marvel was thrown into a tear in the multiverse and the crew worked desperately to navigate their craft back to their home dimension. Unfortunately, they overshot and ended up emerging from the multiverse into the 616 reality of the standard Marvel Universe.
The Marvel emerged near Earth and they attempted to land there so to make repairs and adjustments for another effort to reach their home dimension. Upon entry into earth’s atmosphere, however, the ship was struck by a series of rockets launched by the forces of the eccentric billionaire known as Dr. Midas.
Midas was obsessed with the collection of alien and extra dimensional artifacts which he hoped would imbue him with superpowers. He had monitored the Marvel’s entry into the atmosphere and ordered it shot down so that the wreckage could be salvaged and reverse-engineered to serve his purposes. Noh-Varr had been the chief engineer aboard The Marvel. His mother and father were the captain and first officer and his girlfriend, Meree, was the navigator. Noh was the sole survivor of the crash and he was taken prisoner by Midas’ forces. Midas had planned to dissect Noh so to see what aspects of his biological might be replicated and weaponized.
Most Kree differ from Humans in subtle ways. On average, the Kree are stronger and more durable compared to humans, with an elongated lifespan. Noh possesses these augmented qualities along with additional abilities unique to the Kree of his dimension. In Noh’s home dimension, Kree science had managed to navigate around the evolutionary ceiling of their race by way of adding genetic material to their DNA borrowed from an insect-like species. This addition imbues Noh was greatly enhanced speed and reflexes, heightened strength and the power to adhere to surfaces with his hands and feet. Noh’s saliva also contains nanobots that has the effect of making those who come into contact with it highly susceptible to the power of suggestion. Noh was able to utilize these abilities to facilitate his escape from Midas’ compound.
Among the wreckage of The Marvel, Noh managed to salvage Plex, an sentient, organic computer that retained a massive amount of data specifically oriented to combat situations and martial strategies. Noh also salvaged several weapons, including a pair of wristbands that could reshape themselves into several highly powerful weapons.
Concluding that all of Earth was as evil and murderous as Midas, Noh decided to wage war on the earth and make it the capital of the New Kree Empire of this dimension. Following a number of adventures and a great deal of property destruction, Dr. Midas was seemingly killed and Noh was ultimately apprehended by Shield. Following his capture, Noh was incarcerated in the supermax penitentiary known as The Cube.
The Warden of The Cube proved to be a corrupt and sadistic individual who used his prisoners to forward his own agenda. Shield director, Maria Hill, seemed to be aware of The Warden’s ulterior motives, but allowed him to remain at his post so long as those criminals held their remained imprisoned. The Warden attempted to reverse engineer Plex, but failed to do so and it resulted in the living computer’s death. The warden then used an unspecified technology to exert control over Noh’s will, making him into an enforcer to do his bidding.
During the first Superhero Civil War, The Warden was tasked with capture the young reengaged superheroes known as The Runaways and The Young Avengers. The Warden dispatched Noh to take out these heroes. Noh made short work of these heroes, capturing several of them and leaving the rest battered.
During the battle, Noh was gravely injured when The Visions’ arm became stuck in Noh’s chest mid-intangible. Once revived, The Vision was able to hone in on his detached arm to locate the whereabouts of their captured teammates. Attacking The Cube, the Runaways and Young Avengers once again took on Noh. This time, however, The Vision was abel to scramble the mind control circuits that kept Noh under the Warden’s power.
The heroes all escaped and Noh extracted his vengeance over the Warden, using that same mind control technology to effectively lobotomize him.
Orphaned and marooned in a foreign dimension, Noh was left unsure what to do. He ultimately decided to remain at the Cube, keeping his freedom a secret, and acting as the prison’s de facto jailer.
Shortly thereafter, Noh was visited by the first incarnation of The Illuminati. These luminaries of the hero community saw great potential in Noh-Varr and attempted to guide him toward taking a heroic path. Noh was initially reluctant to accept the advice offered to him by the Illuminati, yet the wisdom imparted on him would eventually take hold.
Noh-Varr was still maintaining the Cube at the time of the Skrull Secret Invasion event. Numerous Skrull agents had infiltrated the Cube and Noh rallied the rest of the prisoners in a successful effort to repel the invaders. During this time, Noh encountered a Super Skrull by the name of Kkn’nr, who had taken the guise of the Original Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell). Kkn’nr had come to believe that he actually was the real Mar-Vell and he died valiantly fighting for Earth. Noh was very much moved by the heroism and self sacrifice demonstrated; so much so that it inspired him to also take on the responsibility of protecting the people of Earth.
Noh-Varr’s decision to become a hero, coupled with his relative naiveté made him an ideal candidate to be recruited by Norman Osborn when he was forming his Dark Avengers during the Dark Reign era. Osborn had slithered his way into the directorship of Shield following the Secret Invasion and formed his own group of Avengers to act as the steel fist of his new agenda.
Assuming the name of ‘Marvel Boy,’ Noh agreed to participate in Osborn’s Avengers team and he served with distinction in their earlier adventures. Noah’s teammate, Moonstone (Karla Sofen) took a fancy in Noh and seduced him following a successful mission. Afterward, Soften divulged to Noh that Osborn was a villain, that his ultra-vigilant stance on earthly defense was just a ruse to consolidate authoritarian power (sound familiar?). Having discovered the truth behind Osborn’s intentions, Noh decided to leave the Dark Avengers. He was assigned by Osborn to obtain the advanced weapons production plant known as ‘The World.’ Defying Osborn’s orders, Noh teamed up with Wolverine (Logan) and Fantomex and thwarted Osborn’s efforts to obtain ‘The World.’
Labeled an enemy agent, Osborn sent The Sentry to neutralize Noh. Noh was able to evade The Sentry and he built a communications relay platform to contact The Kree Empire of this Dimension (hoping he could gain amnesty on the Kree world pf Hala).
Noh’s transmission was received by the Supreme intelligence of The Empire. Rather than offering Noh a means of reaching Hala, however, The Supreme Intelligence decided that Noh was a suitable candidate to assume the role once held by Captain Mar-Vell as the Kree protector of Earth. A pair of advanced Nega-Bands were teleported to Noh that imbued him with vast new powers. Re-dubbing himself ‘The Protector’ Noh was ultimately able to fend off The Sentry and escape Osborn’s pursuit.
Later, following Osborn’s defeat and the Siege of Asgard, The Protector was recruited by The Avengers to assist in a mission to take on Kang The Conquerer. Noh was granted full membership to The Avengers and aided them in battles against The Hood, Hydra and The Serpent. During this time, Noh began a romantic relationship with a young art school student named Annie.
During the Avengers versus X-Men event, Noh took part in a mission to head out into space and intercept the Phoenix Force before it could reach earth. This mission ultimately failed, but the team did manage to exert a sample of the Phoenix Force energy that could be used as part of a weapon to defeat it. Unfortunately, their spaceship was damaged, forcing the team to make a crash landing on the Kree planet of Hala.
While making repairs on Hala, Noh was summoned to an audience with the Supreme Intelligence. The Intelligence commanded Noh to steal the energy sampling of The Phoenix Force so that Kree science might devise a proper means of destroy the cosmic entity and ending the threat it posed.
Noh obeyed this order, engaging a sneak attack on his fellow Avengers so to thieve the sample. When he presented the sample to the Supreme Intelligence it was revealed to him that The Kree had no intentions of protecting the earth. They would allow The Phoenix Force to destroy earth, temporarily sating its hunger for destruction and giving the empire the time needed to develop the means to defend itself.
Dismayed, Noh once again stole the sample so to return it to the Avengers. Yet he had lost their trust. The Avengers took back the sample, but left Noh behind declaring that he was forever banned from Earth. To make matters worse, The Supreme Intelligence caused Noh Nega-Bands to disengage, dissolving his Protector battle suit and leaving him initially defenseless against the legion of Kree soldiers seeking his demise. The Phoenix Force was ultimately contained by Hope Summers and the threat abated; and Noh was not heard from for some time.
Somehow, Noh was able to escape Hala. Not knowing where else to go, Noh returned to Earth and used pilfered Kree material to create a home for himself in a satellite station orbiting the planet. Despite all that he had been through, Noh had developed a great fondness for earth, its culture and art and especially its music. He would frequently descend to the planet to buy records, attend concerts and dance clubs.
During one of these excursions, Noh encountered Kate Bishop, the young Avenger known as Hawkeye. The two hit it off quite well and Kate ended up returning with Noh to his starlight home to spend the night. What began as a one night fling ultimately blossomed into a romance.
Through his relationship with Kate, Noh became involved in the latest iteration of the Young Avengers. Reassuming the named of Marvel Boy, Noh aided the Young Avengers in their dimension-trotting battle against the demonic force known only as ‘Mother.’ The Mother entity was finally defeated and destroyed and The Young Avengers drifted apart. Noh and Kate also broke off their relationship though committed to remaining friends.
In the upcoming Inhumans Prime, it appears as though Noh has witnessed the aftermath of the Inhuman/Mutant War. Being a Kree from an alternate timeline, Noh seems to be quite knowledgeable about the Inhumans as well as, possibly, the secrets of Terrigen. It looks as though Noh will offer his services as a guide to the Royals in their quest into the cosmos to learn the mysteries of Terrigen.
Noh’s further adventures will be entailed in ‘The Royals’ debuting this spring from writer Al Ewing and artist Jonboy Meyers. Noh-Varr was created by Grant Morrison and JG Jones.

NohKate 37
send me a pairing and a number and i’ll write you a drabble
37. “Wanna dance?”
Noh-Varr’s always playing music on the ship. It’s his ship, so it’s really his prerogative to do so, but Kate knows he wouldn’t do it if anyone on board was bothered by it.
Luckily, she’s the only other person on board right now, and she doesn’t mind in the slightest, not when she gets such a delicious view out of the deal. Noh-Varr isn’t exactly the best of dancers, but he’s enthusiastic, and that’s almost more attractive than the very, very naked chest.
She’s a very lucky girl; her boyfriend’s lack of shame about his own body leave her with plenty of opportunities to privately (and not so privately) watch him show off rather a lot of bare skin. And with the kinds of muscles she loves running her hands over (she’s really the kind of girl that’s more than a little turned on by evidence of sheer strength), it’s... well, she has a lot of fun.
“Wanna dance?” Noh jumps over the bed and lands in front of her, holding out a hand to pull her out of her chair.
“Mm... not much of a dancer, me.” Kate grins at him, though, a visible sign that she doesn’t really mean it.
“Oh?” Noh comes a step closer and takes her hand in his own, his other arm tucked behind his back. “Are you sure?”
“Hm... You know, I don’t think I am.” Kate uses Noh’s hand to pull herself up, and spins them around so that they’re standing in the usual childish slow-dance position. “Let’s find out.”
