It's just-

Yasuke is SOOOOOOOOOO important to the overall plot and the themes of the series, to the point that he leaves behind a massive plothole in Different Mastermind AUs. It's just disheartening to see that people either don't know about him or significantly downplay his involvement.

His relationship with Junko, the core of Danganronpa, is so fucking amazing. The fact that he was one of the most important people to her, to the point that the only thing she's able to remember is how much she loves him, is such a refreshing take on her character when shes constantly portrayed as the evil force. That, even when she is the villain of dr0, we learn that she is capable of loving something other than despair.

His the only other peice we get of Junko's backstory that isn't from Mukuro (which has to be taken with a grain of salt since shes not telling full truths and was also in Fenrir for a good chunk). The sandcastle story gives us a look at a Junko who does something for the sake of another person, without planning on using them. He's probably the only character who's seen Junko grow up, who knows every step of her life. (Never specified when the met, just that he knew her when she went into elementary school (so prolly around 6yo). But Junko also lies that she was responsible for Matsuda's mom condition, and considering he is unsure to believe her implies that there is some plausibility, so who knows how long that was.)

ANYWAY

The fact that he is so ingrained into the two games is so UGH. Yasuke's the reason class 78 cant remember their past. Why Kyoko doesn't remember her talent. The foundation of the game is reliant on HIS research. And even the NWP, something he helped create, is how the second game is able to play out. (And possibly how Junko knew about it since she made AI Junko to be placed into it.) It's so important to the game that even drv3 had to incorporate it somehow into its games.

Just the amount of love she has for this fucker DRIVES ME CRAZY. To include parts of his life's research into her games, to use the same knife she killed him with to frame her biggest obstacles for her sister's death, to have fragments of your last days with him seeping out of your AI self (the notebook, and the two white noises during 2-6)??? UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

The fact, the fucking FACT, that he was the closest person to actually saving her?? Yasuke! Not Makoto, or hajime, or even her fucking twin. Mr."Shut the fuck up, old man".

But its also the point of no return for Junko. The minute Ryoko "died", all her goodness died. Yasuke could've easily agreed to Ryoko's pleas to forget about everything and go back to his lab. But he didn't. And that's where things were set.

He did so much for Junko, because he loved her.

nanami watches from the corner of his eye as you quietly accepts your boss’ request to work overtime, he frowns as your boss implies under many corporate jargons that it’ll be unpaid and you should do it for the team.

“so naive” he murmurs watching you smile.

he can’t help but become infatuated with you when watching your skirt raising when you try to reach a tall shelf in the communal kitchen.

“here” he catches the coffee beans bag for you, without even needing to extend his arm much. nanami arrives so quietly that his voice scares you and you take a step back bumping into his strong body behind you and leaving a tiny squeal out, “sorry, are you okay?” he puts his hand on your shoulder.

“y-yes, thank you” he gives you space and you turn around looking at him over the thick frame of your glasses. it reminds nanami of those ads where a gorgeous woman has a pair of glasses down her nose and the caption says something like ‘single hotties in your area’. he then understands the appeal.

he keeps himself busy most days, so one day as soon as he sends an email he relaxes on his desk rolling his shoulders and looking around just in time to watch you knock a box of staples off your table. he raises from his seat to go help you but he gets a call at the same time so he sits back down to answer it while keeping his eyes on you.

you kneel picking the small items one by one. he likes seeing you on your knees. then you push your chair and crawl under the desk, trying to reach a few staples that went under the cabinet, at this point you’re with your head down on the carpeted floor and your ass up, nanami watches it with lusty eyes, just agreeing and humming to whatever the person on the phone is saying while wondering if you remember you are wearing a skirt. he watches in awe the black semi transparent pantyhose you have on stretch at the back of your thighs and the panties peeking out from underneath it.

when you get up your hair is messy and your face is flushed, you don’t think most of it, just glad to have caught every little staple. meanwhile nanami pulls his chair closer to his desk so you don’t see the volume in his pants when you pass by after basically flashing him.

nanami knows he wouldn’t last long with you around. one night he also stays overtime and you, being the extreme people pleaser you are, bring him some coffee and different sugar packets since you don’t know how he takes his coffee, but even with this simple self-assigned task you still manage to screw up and spill some on his pants immediately apologizing and getting on your knees to clean it with your sleeve. the friction on his upper thigh is making him grow hard but your teary eyes is what pushes him over the edge.

“nanami-san, don’t go home too late” the last person in the office says stepping on the elevator and waving goodbye.

I think L's actually very prone to getting freaked out by jumpscares and unexpected loud noises. For this reason he hates horror movies and thunder. If he happens to experience a fright like this, he'll either go very very still and start trembling, OR he will jump ten feet in the air, drop whatever he's holding, and curse loudly.

I don't think L swears much outside of that, actually.

if you wear glasses he'll just put his hands on your face at any given moment to push them up your nose because the lenses aren't even in front of your eyes any more and what is wrong with you.

There’s been a lot of Max/Bradley ship art influx lately and so allow me to show off my own Ship art of that lovely brat

Bradley Uppercut III x Kaito „Clio” Matsuda to be more precise

Some headcanons about Kaito:

Clio is an exchange student from Japan. He studies Japanese culture anthropology and history

He comes from a very rich family with long history reaching Azuchi-Momoyama period. His relationship with his male relatives however is very strain

Clio is a half-blood- his mother was a french Romani woman, while his father is full japanese

This caused our poor boy to have a lot of complexes about his heritage from mother’s side back in elementary and high school. Mostly it was caused by his relatively darker skintone and curly hair (he actually straightens his hair to this very day).

He recently got over it and now prefers his more Roma nickname. He actually dislikes being called by his surname or real name.

He was very hated by middle school teachers for his unruliness. At some point, when they forced him to cut his hair, he purposely failed his tests and assignments as a form of protest for ridiculous standards. When Clio was allowed to grow his hair back, he rewrote all his tests near perfectly and got very good grades from then on.

He became somewhat of a hero and symbol among other students, who also started failing their tests and assignments en masse on purpose so the school would be forced to loosen restrictions on appearance (ot worked)

As you can guess, he was a delinquent with a heart of gold.

Also, although I didn’t draw it, he vapes. A lot.

Back to ship with Bradley

When Clio started attending the exchange program, his first encounter with Bradley was quite hostile. Bradley basically challenged him to prove his superiority by (inserting casual racism) showing off his karate skills. Bradley later regretted it with black eye from him.

They somewhat reconciled after Clio showed him off his ice skating skills on the rink and Bradley invited Clio to Gamma Mu Mu as their sportsman.

And Bradley had lots of issues understanding cultural differences of Clio, like him sleeping on floor mattress, spending an hour in a bathroom, eating soup for breakfast or taking off shoes upon entrance to frat house.

Clio COULD NOT stand living with other gammas (aside from Tank and Bradley). He always found a lot of their habits very annoying to bear (like leaving empty beer bottles, leaving laundry mess or not cleaning regularly).

Their romance began to grow once they started tutoring each other. Bradley was tutoring Clio in English and skateboard, while Clio tutored Bradley in Math and ice skating.

They tried to dismiss their feelings towards each other. Eventually, thinking his love is one way, Bradley confessed his love to Clio, expecting ridicule, only for him to clap back with that he also has feelings for Bradley.

They thought that nobody knows about them being gay and that they must keep it a secret. However, their love in reality was an open secret among gammas. There were so many situations where they caught the lovebirds sleeping on sofa together or that Bradley accidentally once left out a clearly love letter to Clio in the locker. But in the end, Gammas were absolutely fine with their leader being gay. In fact they made sure nobody bullied Bradley and Clio on prom night.

After graduation, Bradley has chosen to go with Clio back to Japan and find study opportunity

Now headcanons about their love

Clio os the dom, Bradley is the sub.

Clio is the one who cooks, while Bradley is the one who cleans after dinner.

Bradley doesn’t mind Clio calling him „Brad” anymore.

When sleeping, Clio always has to cuddle Bradley like a pillow all night and wriggle around their futon with him.

Clio also tutors Bradley in japanese.

Their favorite time of the year are Hanami and Christmas (they eat a lot of KFC on holidays)

Both fathers of the boys disapproved their love, but after some time (and mr. Uppercut and mr. Matsuda eventually met) they just let it fly.

Aka who I think would know the dance, and/or like Chappell’s music in general

Misa would try to teach the whole task force. I feel like she’d be a big Chappell fan.

Matsuda is very enthusiastic about learning it.

Mogi learns it only because he feels as Misa’s manager it might be something he should know.

L has no interest in it until he sees how annoyed it makes Light. So he feigns interest and encourages Light to do the dance too.

Light hates Chappell’s music and is not quiet about it. Bitches every time Misa plays a song. Refuses to learn and knows L is only learning to get under his skin. Later it’s stuck in his head and he wants to scream.

Soichiro refused to learn from Sayu and is also refusing to learn from Misa. “We’re in the middle of an important case!”

I’ve always head cannoned that Matt would be very up to date with slang, and I feel like he would research any trends going on. So if he happened upon the Hot To Go dance he would definitely research it. Would not teach himself the dance.

Mello on the other hand. I feel like he would pretend like he doesn’t particularly like her music or know the dance, but he secretly loves it and will indeed blast her music sometimes and dance around. He needs something to release some tension in his life. Matt walked in once and at first Mello was embarrassed, but eventually Matt can be like sitting on the bed playing a game and Mello will just throw on the music and attempt to annoy and distract Matt from his game. Matt ends up learning the dance to dance with Mello.

Near has no idea who Chappell is and has never heard the song. I feel like the only music Wammy Kids were allowed to listen to growing up were like, instrumentals, and Near just never ventured beyond that.

I think Beyond’s music taste would truly be a mixed bag. Like. Super chaotic, you really don’t know what is going to play next. So I feel like he would like the song, but not necessarily know the dance.

Bonus shinigami.

Misa teaches Rem and Ryuk the dance. Rem learns because she is a simp for Misa. Ryuk learns because he enjoys pissing Light off. Will just be in one of Light’s classes by the teacher doing the dance like “hey, hey light! H-O-T-T-O-G-O, I would like to fucking go” because he’s bored af and probably forgot the lyrics. Probably the melody too. He’s trying. Light hates it.

Character Reaction Fanfictions (watching the show/movie or reading the books) -Recs -

One of my favorite tropes in fanfiction is characters being forced to watch/read/react to their own stories. Unfortunately, a good majority of these are crap. Readers looking for these stories often have to dig through a lot of coal to find just one diamond in the rough. Here's a list of the ones I’ve managed to find. Ones that aren’t just a written recreation of their source material.

Is This The Way It Ends Now? by Seastar98 (Death Note) (Finished) This is one of my favorite Death Note fanfictions for a reason. It doesn’t make us watch or read the dialogue or action of the show along with the characters; It assumes we’ve already seen it and focuses on the character’s reactions (what we’re actually here for) and gives more character development to some of its minor characters (Mello, Near, and Matt being clear examples. I was happy about this in particular since my favorite characters in Death Note are Matt and Matsuda). L and Light end up together, but romance is not the focus.

Hunter x Hunter / Assassination Classroom by EternalQuestForGoodFics (Finished) Basically, Killua ends up in the Assassination Classroom world. To go home, he must eventually allow his classmates to watch the HunterxHunter series to learn more about him and where he came from. These two fandoms are a great matchup, and Killua is one of the best characters to end up in the AssClass world. Seeing Killua bond and make a new friend out of Nagisa made it worth reading alone. Their reactions are part 2 of the series. 

MHA X Hunter by makifinity (My Hero Academia / Hunter x Hunter) (In progress) This is a good fanfiction where the My Hero Academia characters watch the HunterXHunter anime together instead of their own show. What makes ‘this’ great is how different the two worlds are and the morals that hold them together. I love that the villains are also involved in this viewing room since, in most My Hero reaction fics, the villains are left out of the experience and don’t get to have their own voices and opinions about what is happening on screen.

The Journey of the Unholy Trinity by Arremi (Code Geass) (In progress) If you’ve been in the Code Geass fandom long enough, you’ve probably seen a few of these stories. This one is the longest, most well-written, and most complete I’ve found.

Code Geass: The Blame Game: by AllHailThe99th (Code Geass) (In progress) One thing I like about this Code Geass reaction fic is the author’s obvious and stated hate of the character Suzaku. Suzaku is on my list of most hated characters; I like reading people judging and calling him out constantly on his shit. It’s a very therapeutic read. I recommend it to anyone who felt a similar rage when watching the show.

Appearances by McKinney_Wylis (Marvel / Avengers) (Finished) This story has the Avengers going to Asgard to check on Loki when they find a weird video clip online that scares them into believing Loki may have broken free. It turns out the video clip was from a different universe (our universe), and they suddenly had access to the Marvel movies that were available at that time. They watch the Thor movie and learn things about Loki, unknown before. The watching of Thor actually doesn’t take up the whole fic, but this story still counts. It takes place during the Thor: The Dark World storyline.

In terms of pairings…well, I’ll read any pairing if it’s written well enough. Even a story with Loki and Steve shacking up. I don’t like Steve, but I like how he was written in this fic. The way he and Loki interact is cute enough that I can look past it.

Part of the Journey is the end by hunkahulkaaburningfudge (Marvel / Avengers) This series starts with the characters watching Infinity War and has been going through the continuing movies and TV shows; with great writing and lots of material, this is definitely one of the best. I loved the Wanda and Loki reactions. And the ‘What if?” storylines were hilarious.

Avengers Watch Snippets by Ifihadatardis (Marvel / Avengers) As advertised, the characters watch little snippets of scenes of each other’s lives. Sometimes, these fics are preferable because the characters can learn about each other without going through their entire movies.

All the Days of Our Lives Series by ElrondScribe (Marvel / Avengers) This series has the characters react to Captain America, Iron Man 1, and Iron Man 2. It takes place after Civil War and has them watching the movies in Wakanda. I like the Tony Stark and Pepper focus in these fics, and I thought the writer did well with the other character voices, even for the ones I didn’t like.

School Watches Assassination Classroom by TheSteinsGateFormula (Assassination Classroom) (Finished) This is not just one of the best reaction fanfictions of all time but one of the best, period. The author not only had the original class and teachers watching the show but the entire school (baring the Principal, thank god) yet still managed to keep everyone in character and give everyone a distinctive voice when trying to keep up with so many people.

Attention is given to situations that were mostly glossed over without consequence in the actual show, like the students who came from abusive households. My favorite characters, Nagisa and the younger Asano, get a good amount of attention.

The only negative of this fic is how long it is. Over 700,000 words. It takes some serious reading time, but it’s worth it. Trust me. But once you start, you might not want to stop. Make sure you have the time to dedicate to it.

Lucifer Reacts to Supernatural by SilverWolf7 (Lucifer/Supernatural) As much as I love Supernatural and wish I had more good recs for it, this is one of the best options I can offer in this category. I haven’t seen the show Lucifer yet (I’ve been meaning to), but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of this fic. Seeing Lucifer’s love of Sam’s character and hearing him rage about many of the things in the show that frustrated me or he thought were inaccurate were giant highlights of this story. Warning: If you’re a Dean fan, you might get defensive about how much Lucifer bashes him (I live for it, but that’s me). One of the other characters that he’s watching it with even rage-quits on him for how much he was dissing her favorite character. If that doesn’t bother you, this might be the fic for you.

Watching You, Watching Me, Watching You by trippedandfellintopurgatory (Supernatural) This is one of the only good Supernatural watching-the-show fics I’ve found. So, of course, it only has 19 chapters, sits at 30,000 words, and has a slow updating schedule.

Blank Disc by TheFallenArchangel (Supernatural) Another of the few good Supernatural watch-the-show fics. This one hasn’t been updated since 2014 and has only seven chapters. Dean and Sam are teenagers, and their father and Bobby watch with them.

The Void by iAnneart (Yugioh: Duel Monster/ Yugioh Abridged) This fanfiction was one that I used to love, and I hate that it still hasn’t been updated and doesn’t look like it ever will be. The characters of Yugioh react to their own abridged series to hilarious effect. This fic was the entire reason I watched the Abridged Series by LittleKuribo - still one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen, and admittedly much better than the actual show. Another fanfiction is more popular and has them watch more episodes. But this fic was much better written with only ten chapters.

Under a Watchful Eye by my secret thoughts (Harry Potter) A story where the Harry Potter characters read the books. It focuses on Harry and Sirius. There is no actual recitation of the books (thank god), but it’s written well enough to tell what they’re reacting to. So far, this is the only reaction fic like this in the Harry Potter fandom I’ve liked. It takes place during their 5th-year, and the other characters are mostly Order of the Phoenix members.

Truth Revealed by Lucifer swift (Full Metal Alchemist) One of the first reaction fanfictions I ever read. It's been reuploaded on fanfiction.net. In this reaction series, the characters are forced to relive the pain they witness themselves having on screen. Any of you who have seen Full Metal Alchemist know that is leading to an agonizing time.

No such thing as a painless lesson by RoseJennison (My Hero Academia) The best My Hero Academia fanfiction that’s actually still going and might eventually catch up with the episodes…maybe. The characters in this are also forced to suffer the pain they see themselves experiencing onscreen. Think about all the times Midoriya breaks himself and imagine him having to feel all that again continuously.

In the Grasp of Schadenfreude by ThoughtSpinner (My Hero Academia) The parents and teachers/heroes watch the show and find out what's been going on with their children and at school. Needless to say, these parents have a lot of thoughts. 

Reaction Ritual by PreshByPyre (Naruto) This is only six chapters, but I hope the author returns to it. It’s a good idea, and well-written Naruto reaction fics are rare.

A number of fragments by eliscool (Naruto) Exactly what the title suggests. Instead of watching Naruto episode by episode, the characters are watching random fragments of the show and have to try and put together what’s happening. This occurs when Naruto and the kids are still in the Academy - but before Itachi commits the massacre.

Old stories, new discoveries by Daniablazin (Discontinued) (Miraculous Ladybug) This is my favorite Miraculous Ladybug reaction fiction. Unfortunately, it doesn’t go past the first season. It’s been discontinued because the author said they didn’t like where the show was going. A real shame. The writing on this was amazing, and it had serious potential.

What are our children up to? by o0Lithium0o (Teen Wolf) The parents of Teen Wolf from earlier in the timeline get to see what their children are up to and their future. The kids aren't actually in the room with them. Probably for the best. They are so grounded for the foreseeable future once they all get back.

As Above is Below by kswriter (Shadowhunter Series)The characters of the Shadowhunter series (pretty much all of them) sit down to read the books. This goes by the book canon, not the show canon. I mainly love this series for the Mangus and Alec content. This is the only reaction fic I've seen with these characters.

i did get it twice, but that's okay!!! oh anon, i have been waiting my entire tumblr career for an ask like this you have no fucking idea i am so excited! let's go!:

they either start dating during the timeskip, in 2008 (following manga timeline here), or post-canon. i think they need time to first develop an actual relationship then develop the feelings tbh

the romantic feelings didn't come around fast for either of them, especially not aizawa. it's something which grew slowly over time as they got to know one another and began to appreciate one another. aizawa very likely knew he was in love when he realised that he now finds matsuda's more annoying traits endearing.

their bickering is top tier - it is loud, it is annoying to everyone else around them, it is fast. they have always bickered like a married couple even before they started dating. they left a lot of their original dynamic behind after a long while of dating but the way they banter is something that has always stayed

matsuda is 100% into PDA while aizawa is 0% into it, but in private, aizawa doesn't mind matsuda's clinginess at all.

they have their differences in personality, but what allows them to stay together is what they value, which is actually quite similar. both are very loyal and honest people, they also value that in one another as a result. they're also both passionate, and though they're tip-toeing around how their relationship changes to a romantic one, they are both eager to do things right.

aizawa cooks for the most part, but matsuda sometimes makes breakfast. they're both busy so they eat a lot more takeout than they should really

matsuda's love language (way of giving love, in this case) is physical touch and aizawa's is acts of service.

hikari by hikaru utada is a song i always about them to, the english version simple and clean is also very good

in my mind, matsuda has adhd. he struggles to do chores which leads to the apartment being messy, but aizawa helps out with this. before aizawa moves in, sometimes when he comes over he'll just do the laundry or the dishes. matsuda is at first very charmed but very embarrassed and apologises for the apartment being in the state that it is. aizawa doesn't understand why matsuda struggles with doing things like this, but soon sees that it is causing him distress that they're not done, so decides the least he can do is help out.

matsuda also likes to wear aizawa's coats because they're too big for him, very warm, and they smell like aizawa. aizawa does a total of zero (0) things to stop this.

they have movie nights in which they alternate who picks the movie, because if matsuda always picked they would only watch romcoms and if aizawa picked they would only watch horror or action or some shit. aizawa likes only one romance movie and hates the rest, matsuda thinks it is the funniest thing.

when they sleep, aizawa is dead still and snores loudly. matsuda hogs the blankets.

i can see their relationship lasting for a lifetime, but it takes a lot of hard work to get there. a lot of uncomfortable conversations and communication

aizawa refuses to let matsuda rot after the kira case. post-kira, matsuda becomes very depressed. i have my own assorted headcanons about how they are during the first year or two of post-kira, but this post is becomng too long so i won't elaborate

my thoughts: They just bring a sort of Riza & Roy, Barty & Tom, Crim & Alessio, Aro & Jane vibe to the table that I really enjoy ✨ The Mastermind™ and their feral attack dog—Light says "Bark" and Mikami goes "At what tone, pitch, and volume; poodle or rottweiler?" and that's just SO much to play with >:3 IT'S ABOUT THE SERVITUDE 🤌🤌 THE IMAGE OF LIGHT SITTING CLEAN AND ARROGANT IN HIS THRONE AND MIKAMI STANDING PROUD BESIDE HIM COVERED IN BLOOD 😩🙏 Mikami is Light's favorite little pet and Light is Mikami's everything.

things done in fanfic that annoy me: Honestly? (Don't hate me for this one Moon (⁠๑⁠•⁠﹏⁠•)) I don't like how often L is brought up or mentioned in Mikalight fics. Like Mikami is L's replacement in Light's heart, like he sees L in Mikami—they're literally nothing alike 😭 They both have black hair but if that's the only thing you need to be L's replacement then Matsuda would make the cut. Besides; if I open a Mikalight fic, I want the focus to be on Mikami and Light :') If I wanted Lawlight I'd have gone to the Lawlight tag instead, you know?

things i look for in fic: Mikami being obsessed and Light viscerally enjoying his obsession. That's it :3 I want Mikami to be the devoted pursuer and Light to be the deity deigning to touch him out of amusement and curiosity. I like Light in control and Mikami being super horny about it ✨

who I'd be comfortable with the ending up with: For Light, I like him with pretty much everyone lol (have that man running from his harem 24/7), though L and Ryuk are definitely at the top of the list ;3 For Mikami.... it's harder, because I only like him with other people in situations where Light isn't a factor at all, such as they've never met or Light just doesn't exist. Save for maybe Near, because I think captor/captive is always a fun trope 💫 But with Light there (and specifically in Kira Wins AUs) I tend to like him with either Matsuda or Misa, because I can see both of those relationships turning antagonistic >:3 Mikalight is pretty much the only DN ship I have that doesn't have SOME form of chafe to it, so anything else would need to be made interesting for me to ship it.

my happily ever after for them: Kira wins, Mikami uses his eyes and tenacity to become Light's right hand man, and then they spend the rest of time being righteously evil with Light directing and Mikami wielding the scythe—which he is then reward for by Light allowing him to use his mouth and hands and sometimes cock to make his Kami-sama feel good 😌💖

who is big spoon/little spoon: TOUGH QUESTION. Because if it's in a No Death Note AU and they were both,,,normaler, I'd say Mikami. But in any other circumstance I'd say Light, if only because Mikami kneeling between his legs while Light works is practically the same thing as being the little spoon when you think about it :3

what is their favorite nonsexual activity: Not to get super soft all of a sudden, but probably talking. Mikami is canonically very intelligent as well, even if I think his smarts come more from diligent study than any born-in ability like Light's—they've probably read a lot of the same books and I imagine them sitting in comfortable quiet reading together and occasionally looking up to speak their thoughts about the book aloud, which leads them into calm but intriguing discussions. When they're not being murderous psychos, I think they're both actually quite calm and content people, so things like going for a morning run, drinking coffee together, and reading in the same room are definitely their favorite moments otherwise 💗

EHEHEHE I LOVE THIS QUESTION…

Ok so the promise of the cherry blossoms is my oc story about a highschool basketball club!! I named it that because cherry blossoms are a huge signifier of change and new beginnings, and I want a big part of the overall theme of the story to be that there’s always hope, there’s always room to grow, and you’re never stuck where you started, you can have a new beginning. I haven’t made any actual materials for the story (yet) mostly because I struggle with which format would be best to tell it in.

The story itself focuses on each member of the club, as well as the two managers and their coach. Every character has their own personal story, usually intertwining with some of the others in some way. The other main theme of the story is the idea that what you see on the surface isn’t always everything to a person, and there’s a lot more to them than meets the eye.

The characters:

Starting with the players on the team, we have the captain, Soga Umeno (his surname is subject to change cuz I don’t like how it flows). He’s in his third year, and cares very deeply about the other members of his team, but struggles with how at home he was practically forced to become a parent to his three much younger siblings.

After Soga, the vice captain is a third year named Seki Matsuda (aka Matsu). While Soga is very warm and caring, he is extremely cold and harsh. He believes putting 100% of your effort into everything you do is the best way to be, to the point of it being extremely detrimental to his well being. He is extremely sleep deprived, extremely exhausted, and extremely stuck in his own head. He’s very autistic and has ocd. He’s also (fallen out) childhood friends with the next character.

Onto the other two third years on the team, Kazuha Yumeno (aka Kazu) is the token pretty boy. He’s spectacularly gorgeous, but also spectacularly self centered and vain. Similar to Matsuda, he strives to be the best, but instead of in everything, it’s specifically in beauty. He has an eating disorder and hates himself so so much, and he sacrifices a lot of his life in the name of his beauty, which was a major factor in his and Matsu’s falling out.

For the final third year, we have Akihito Tsukimori. He was one of the first characters I made, when I still didn’t know what I wanted the story to be, and he’s not as fleshed out as the others. He’s a really laid back, cool type, who is a passionate musician who is stuck under his parents’ thumb and cannot pursue his dreams due to their desire for him to follow in family tradition and have some boring normal job, like a doctor or something (I never decided lol. He’s not my fave tbh). He plays trumpet.

For second year, let’s start with Yuta Ito. He was originally the main character before I got rid of the concept of a protagonist in this story. He’s a (mostly) pre transition trans guy who just transferred to this school and has always dreamed of being a professional basketball player, and goddammit he will stop at nothing to be allowed on the boys team and prove he’s just as good (if not better) than all of them. Spoiler, he is better than all of them, not for special reasons, everyone else just kind of sucks.

Next is Kiyohiko Suzuki (or, later in the story, Kiyoko). She was the second character I made and I LOVE her. Upon Yuta’s arrival in the club, she’s introduced to the idea she may not be as cis as she thought, and begins experimenting, only to discover she is in fact a girl. She really struggles with her family in this regard, but especially her relationship with her two older sisters, and the fact that her family favored her for being the “only son”. There’s a lot more to the sisters but that’s too much for this little blurb lol.

For the final second year (there’s supposed to be a fourth but I just… have never made him), we have Hideyoshi Akazuma (aka Hide). He’s pretty much a shoe-in to be the next captain, and he’s essentially perfect at everything he does. He and Yuta don’t get along, especially due to Yuta’s similarities to his twin brother. Hide is extremely pressured by his parents and teachers to uphold this perfect persona, and it puts a lot of tension between him and his peers, but more importantly, between him and his brother.

The first years are arguably my favorite, so let’s start with Daishi Edogawa, as he’s the easiest. Daishi is by far the tallest on the team, and is extremely awkward and nervous. He grew up raised by his mom and grandma, alongside his little sister, Tsuna. Due to this, he never really had any male role models in his life, and now is struggling with his relationship to being a man and his masculinity, and what all of it even means. He also has a crush on the following character, Madoka.

Madoka Kume is everything. He is my boy. I love him. He’s the second smallest of the cast, and matching to his appearance, he has a very strong childlike innocence (for the most part) and naïveté. He was raised by his older sister Utaha, after his mother decided she hated him and severely neglected him. Utaha could have her own section with all this stuff… anyway, Madoka is very aware that his disposition can make it a lot harder on his sister, and desires to become stronger and more independent to ease her burden, but throughout this develops an avoidance to asking for help. He is also autistic, dyslexic, and possesses some other ambiguous learning disabilities.

Following on to my ACTUAL favorite, Hotaru Ibe (previously known as Haruka). He is a former child model who was extremely talented and beautiful, but also very lonely and desperate for human connection. Due to this he experiences some of the horrors of the industry with a photographer acting as his friend and taking advantage of him. After a particularly bad incident, Hotaru quits, decides he’s never doing this again, changes his name and his entire look, and does his best to repress all his trauma with the desire to be “a completely normal kid”. He’s got a lot of shit going on.

And the final player, Ryuunosuke Itori (aka Ryuu), Hotaru’s best friend (Ryuu has a hella crush on him btw). Ryuu is the top of his class, and is extremely similar to Hide and Matsu. He works hard and is is very smart, but the stress starts getting to him. When his delinquent cousin moves in with him, Ryuu finds himself becoming friends with some unsavory types, and soon finds himself spiraling out of control after getting involved in some drug related shit and becomes more and more apathetic and less and less of who he was before. His and Hotaru’s stories (which are actually very intertwined) are probably the heaviest topics.

Onto the two managers, let’s start with Shunichi Itori, a third year, and Ryuu’s older cousin. He’s a delinquent involved in some gang stuff, and after getting detained overnight, his parents are finally fed up and tell him he’s not welcome in their house anymore. His aunt and uncle offer to take him in, if he agrees to put all of that behind him. He takes the offer, and at first he keeps doing bad shit behind their back. They force him to join the basketball club so Ryuu can keep an eye on him, but after he accidentally gets Ryuu involved with his friends, he seems to realize what he’s doing is kind of fucked up, and starts to work on becoming a better person and putting all that stuff behind him, with the help of the other manager.

Aiko Tachibana is a first year, and she’s the third character I made! Her story has shifted a lot, and I have yet to find one that works perfectly. She’s similar to a lot of other characters, she’s very childish but hates being seen this way, has strict parents with high expectations for her, and struggles with her identity. She has anger issues and hates when people don’t take her seriously and struggles with her self image over this. She also has a crush on Suzuki, and believes she likes “mature women”, which factors into her desire to be less childlike.

And of course we have the coach. Her name Maki Ikegami, and she’s an ex professional basketball player who’s career was ended prematurely after an injury. She’s a relatively new addition to the cast and I haven’t worked on her much yet, but she struggles with the new route her life has taken and the way she’s been completely displaced. There’s also supposed to be a club advisor, but I haven’t made them yet oops.

We also have a ton of side characters, such as Utaha Kume (she could have her own section she’s probably the most fleshed out side character), Kiriko and Kaoru Suzuki, Tsuna Edogawa, Ryuu’s currently unnamed prostitute friend (I can’t think of anything that fits her), and many other siblings and family members.

I’m also just now realizing how major a role sibling and family dynamics play in most of these plot lines (unmentioned is how Kazuha and Yuta’s respective brothers are major parts of their characters, among other things).

Sorry for rambling so much I just. Love this story so much and I get excited when anyone asks about it hshdhdjdh

Oooh I never get asked about the task force team, I do have many headcanons about them! Thank you for asking!!

Here's my random list of headcanons with very little organization lol:

I fully believe that every single member of the task force looked up to and adored Soichiro, some for father figure reasons and some for daddy reasons (cough cough L cough cough).

I think they all had individual rooms in the headquarters, but often ended up camping out in one room together. Like just pillows and blankets all over the floors and couches of one room. It's mostly because they were all scared any day could be their last, but also they just got really used to each other and found it comforting to be in each other's presence.

They all think they're the most normal guy™️ of the group. Every single one of them. The most normal one is obviously Mogi though.

They all go through phases of looking up to and then hating L. There are moments where they are so impressed by him and his intelligence and other moments where they are like this is the worst asshole boss ever. And I feel like they all take turns hating on and defending L, like not all of them are pissed at him at the same time lol.

They all appreciate Watari and always show how grateful they are when he comes by to give them snacks or whatever else they might need.

I think only Soichiro would notice that Watari must have been L's caregiver. I think he would have conflicting feelings about it and would compare it to his own relationship with Light. Would he have let Light become a world famous detective? If not for the Kira case, would he have really let Light get involved in stuff like this? Would he allow Light to become as detached as L? He'd like to think not, but he doesn't know for sure.

Aizawa was the closest to Ukita. He has a lot of nightmares after Ukita's death. I think all of them would have nightmares about Ukita, really, but I think Aizawa would have been the most affected by far.

Mogi is probably the nicest to and most appreciative of Matsuda. Like I feel like he would have stood up for Matsuda whenever L went too far with bullying him. I think he and Soichiro probably took turns being like, don't worry Matsuda you're doing a great job and we're glad to have you here.

Mogi is bisexual and out of the closet, but doesn't really talk about it very openly. But he doesn't talk about most of his personal life very openly. Only Misa finds out about his dating life when he has to spend a bunch of time with her basically babysitting her during the second part of the series. She's very supportive, but doesn't really get it and assumes he's just gay 😞.

Matsuda saw Light as a brother and was by far the most crushed when the truth came out about him being Kira. Like Mogi, Aizawa, and Ide also felt betrayed, but they were so tired by that point and Mogi and Aizawa hadn't trusted Light in a long while, so they probably had an easier time moving on than Matsuda. Matsuda experiences the cycle of grief over and over again after Light's death. He's so angry and feels so betrayed, but part of him wants to believe that Light was set up and isn't as evil as everyone says.

They all ended up really liking Wedy and Aiber actually and have conflicting feelings about it lmao. I feel like they had game nights with the criminals when things were slow and probably just shrugged it off whenever Aiber or Wedy cheated lol. Like I imagine them playing cards whenever there was down time.

I hate hate that matt is seen as a main character by the fandom. Why does the white boy with a minute screentime get more attention than almost the entire Japanse cast

Hi anon! I can see why Matt is popular as a side character. But I also have problems with the extent of Matt’s popularity. To this day, I still don’t understand why people mention Matt among the main characters. Everyone who has watched the anime or read the manga should have seen how little he’s present in the story. It would make sense if these people only consumed fan content and got a wrong impression about his importance, but this is unlikely. Most people in the fandom seem to have consumed at least one version of DN. So, yes, that’s very weird. I can’t offer you a real explanation, but I can give you some aspects that contribute to Matt’s popularity, in my opinion.

Mellodramattic: Mello is a popular character, and this ship is one of the most popular ships for him. Matt gets automatically credit for it. Plus, the lack of his in-depth characterization allows it to turn Matt into an OC or use him as a self-insert.

Wammy’s kid: Many fans seem to love the Wammy’s kids. Again, Matt gets credit for being one of them.

Comprehensibility: Based on my fandom experience, it seems like younger fans, in particular, often prefer characters they have something in common with. On one hand, Light, L, Mello, and Near have some relatable aspects, but on the other, they are also these unapproachable geniuses. And the Task Force, for example, with the exception of Matsuda, are middle-aged adults who usually behave accordingly. (Not very comprehensible if you are a teenager.) Matt is this down-to-earth, chill dude who smokes and likes video games. It’s easy to identify with Matt, easier than with a lot of the other characters.

Fan content: Passionate fans can actually contribute a lot to how people perceive their favorite characters. They add more depth to the characterization, give these characters backstories, and fill in the gaps. There is a lot of fan content for Matt and a lot of quality content. (Usually, when someone says they like Matt, I assume it’s the fanon version since, well, the canon version barely exists.)

His death: Most side characters die unspectacularly of a heart attack. Matt is perforated by bullets after he’s like: “You wouldn’t really do this, right?” This likely doesn’t increase his popularity, but it is pretty iconic and memorable.

my SDR2 oc Moura Otonashi! AKA AI Junko’s/ Alter ego Junko’s killing game oc/ self made subordinate AI! He was made via her own data and some of Matsuda’s and Junko’s memories, he is based on what Junko imagines her’s and Matsuda’s son would be, hence why his last name is Otonashi, an time when she was more pure, he is introduced into SDR2 as an new arriving student to jabberwock/ the killing game during the start of chapter 2 as the SHSL/ ultimate psychoanalyst retaining some of the analytical abilities of Ryoko and Junko but unlike them he uses it to help others out of compassion and kindness as he is an nicer softer kinder ( although prone to impulse and acting mildly cold) and more empathetic individual thanks to the data needed for him to use his talent effectively and he basically wins everyone over after the chapter 2 trial by acting as some sort of therapist to everyone helping sooth things over while reporting to AI Junko that the killing game is going along with the plan, needless to say Nagito is extremely suspicious of him and even envious/ mildly jealous of how close Moura is getting with Hajime with Moura sensing the inner Izuru inside of him making hints about Izuru and the Kamakura project during his free time events during chapter 5 Nagito finds out the truth and realizes Moura’s striking similarity to Junko Enoshima herself and realizes that Moura must be the traitor and sets up the trap to make him the killer, but thanks to Nagito’s bad luck kicking in Chiaki makes the trap happen ultimately killing Nagito and getting executed, the truth is Chiaki wanted to protect Moura from being suspected and to protect his image as he is an nice AI like she is so she bares the sin “ of being the traitor” for Moura, after the trial In private Moura breaks down and admits to Hajime that he is the true traitor and that Chiaki took the blame for him and tells Hajime that there’s something he’s not allowed to tell Hajime, Hajime asks what but Moura can’t tell him about truly being Izuru making Hajime lose his trust in Moura about his true intentions thinking that he’s just faking his good guy act and he’s as evil as his creator when that’s far from the truth, the other survivors want to know why Hajime and Moura seems distant but Hajime says nothing, Moura during the glitching has an talk with AI Junko being mildly furious that Moura didn’t kill Nagito and she was going to call him useless but she realizes Moura is really one of an kind and her technical son and calms down, until Moura reveals that he will no longer be working for her and is joining the survivors side at which point Ai Junko casually and almost disturbingly cheerfully tells Moura she has no more use for him so he might as well die and join the loser brigade with the other survivors, during the final trial Moura is scared of Kyoko Makoto and Togami hating him due to not being apart of their plan but they like him for helping everyone stay sane, during the trials Ai Junko reveals that Moura is her accomplice and is the actual traitor and that Moura is just an Ai algorithm programmed to always rig the graduation process so Junkoland can begin, so he becomes locked into voting for Junkoland option until Moura establishes his own will and breaks free of ai Junko’s control and votes to graduate with the others, realizing he has no real body to wake up irl like everybody else because he is an algorithm he smiles and says his goodbyes to Hajime and the other survivors wishing them a good life, he appears in dr3 hope arc in an robot body
