"Strange World" (2022) overhaul rewrite
I never expected to do a rewrite of this, despite my issues with it. But then I decided I should just do an overhaul of it. Be forewarned: I'm taking this in a VERY different direction--like, almost unrecognizeable; how do you feel about an Arthurian epic with aliens? As always, be kind--but if you have critiques/questions, I'd be happy to hear them!
Plot:
On a planet far away, there was once the mystical alien planet of Siyned. Twenty-five years ago, King Ursam of Lonava, a prosperous and mystical country on Siyned, disappeared without a trace, leaving his young son Taurus in charge of running a kingdom. For a time, all was prosperous, but now, a powerful sorceress named Niobe has come to battle for the throne, and threatens to engulf the kingdom in darkness and horrors unlike the world has ever seen. Together with his wife Iopeia, son Boralis and their band of allies, Taurus must navigate being a king as well as sorting out the secrets that come out with Niobe's arrival.
Important story/world details
As you may see, the storyline is inspired by the tale of King Arthur, inspired by the fact that Searcher Clade is from a land known as Avalonia, and my first thought was: "Man, a King Arthur-inspired story would've been so much better than what we got." This comes with certain important story/world details:
The cast is made up of aliens. Given the pulp magazine inspiration the original SW film takes from, I'd enjoy seeing a comicbook inspiration for the alien races here, as well as video game inspiration from the fantasy side of things. In the best case scenario, this would be a spiritual successor to "Atlantis." I'd enjoy seeing different races of aliens, though I personally do like the idea that Taurus looks human (though since his wife and son are POC in the OG story, making them appear inhuman might be a bad call if he still appears white). And excuse the use of AI art here; I just liked the video for it's use of 80s dark fantasy inspirations, which I'd also want to be the inspiration for the fantasy aspects of "Strange World."
2. The culture is more medieval/ancient--except for the technology (and maybe fashion). I like the idea that it takes inspiration from various world cultures similar to how "Atlantis" does.
3. The cast is obviously different.
King Taurus--A kind and intelligent king, albeit sensitive and sometimes overcome with his emotions due to unresolved feelings with his father (I thought that'd be a good thing to keep). He's a gifted mage, and I'm definitely getting Gale of Waterdeep vibes from him--albeit less problematic. He's also in his 30s, so slightly younger than Searcher Clade. Still, he's older than most Disney protagonists, which I think makes the film more accessible for an older crowd, and an established Disney romance between a husband and wife rather than two people about to get married or just getting to know each other carries nuances that you can't get with many "kid films."
Queen Iopeia--A scholar and trained warrior who managed to capture the king's heart, and they fell in love. While she doesn't have any magic per se, her physical abilities make her a threat to all who wish to harm her loved ones. She often serves as the emotional anchor when Taurus is frazzled, and on rare occasions, their roles are reversed.
Prince Boralis--The young man who dreams of adventure, a Hercules-type protagonist who has self-esteem issues given his family's legacy. Of course, his crush on Castelon, Niobe's lead soldier, weighs on his heart heavily, since they grew up together before he disappeared and decided to side with her, seemingly with no explanation a year ago. His conflicting feelings make it difficult for him to use his powers (either alien or magical) to full potential. Definitely think his style is more akin to Ekko's from "League of Legends."
Niobe--Vicious but sad, she is the powerful sorceress from the Lands Beyond, a realm of darkness that engulfed the lands west of Lonava. She is much more powerful than Taurus, but wants to destroy him emotionally before killing him, hoping to break him and make him give her the crown that is rightfully hers. She sees him as living the life she always wanted, and despises Taurus for "taking" it from him. She has an affinity for petrifying her enemies--and keeping their consciousness intact. It's later revealed that when Ursam discovered a prophecy that Niobe would bring about the kingdom's destruction, he left her in the Lands Beyond as a toddler. It's somewhat akin to how Cora abandoned Zelena in Once Upon a Time ("I have to leave you to give me MY best at life"). That said, given that many Disney fans want an unapologetic villain, I'd make her too bitter and angry to be swayed by Taurus' pleas, but at her defeat, it's brought to light that despite being a good king, Ursam was NOT a good person.
Serioph--A wise mage (our Merlin figure) who serves as a parental figure to Taurus and a mystical guide. He has the ability to change his form at will, and ocassionally takes on a female form following Taurus' mother's passing and seeing that he needed a mother figure as well as a father figure. However, despite his power, he is tied to the laws of neutrality: if he was to battle someone of great good or great evil, his magic would cease to exist--which includes his power of longevity, and he would cease to exist. He knows this, but uses his powers to harm Niobe and prevent her from killing Taurus, killing himself in the process.
Ienvy--Serioph's daughter, inheriting his magic by lineage, and thus not tied to the Laws of Neutrality like he is. Niobe is drawn to her and attempts to persuade her to join her side, but when Serioph is killed, Serioph curses Niobe to become undone, giving her a sense of insanity that makes it possible for Taurus and the group to defeat her. Despite her help, Ienvy feels guilt for what she's done after learning about Niobe's past, and imposes a self-exile upon herself after the battle is over.
Castelon--Boralis' crush and childhood best friend. He eventually left and joined Niobe due to being tricked into joining her service by failing to prove his selflessness (similar to the tale of Gawain and the Green Knight). As such, he has become warped, becoming a smug Namaari-type villain, so there's a lot of tension between him and Boralis. (Note: This goes without saying, but he'd get a major design overhaul. Some people say he looks like Frankie Grande, but he gives me Jay Manuel vibes from "America's Next Top Model" and I CAN'T STAND IT. I'd rather he looked akin to Lucio from "The Arcana.")
Different Design style FOR SURE
Part of me finds the looks to be too normal; the characters don't grab my attention because they look either too realistic or too cartoony. Even if they weren't aliens, I'd want new looks for their clothes, at the very least. And the non-human-looking aliens felt way too cartoony here, not really ethereal or interesting in the slightest. Honestly, THIS deserved to be a hybrid film, tbh; it'd help to sell the alien vibes, as well as the fantasy aspect. And in particular, if we're going for a more mature look.
Lemme know what you think! I may come back and tinker this a bit.

Just posted chapter 4 of Niobe Heights, the hospital Rhack AU, and we have ourselves some excitement by way of a hostage situation!
(Also, this is the second to last chapter of this fic, for reals. I can't believe I'm actually going to finish something that isn't a one-shot. Pretty sure the last time I did that was with False Negatives, back in 2020.)

Lord Apollo and His Myths

His Mother:
Coeus (God of intellect and axis to heaven) and Phoebe (intellect and prophecy) gave birth to Leto. Goddess of motherhood, childbirth, and modesty. She was an early lover of Zeus (married at first but seperated soon after) and was pregnant before he and Hera were married. Hera, jealous and outraged drove her out of Olympus and antagonized her throughout her pregnancy.
First Hera forbade her from giving birth on solid ground or anywhere that was touched by the sun. No mainland, island, or cloud in the sky would welcome her. Then, Hera sent the dragon Python to chase her. Even while Leto was trying to give birth to her children, Hera held the goddess of childbirth back. It didn't even stop after the twins were born. Hera sent Tityus to sexually assault Leto.
Fearful Hera would curse them, no one helped Leto as she wandered the Earth. Though when Hera sent Python to chase her, Zeus sent the north wind, Boreas, who carried her out to sea. She landed on Delphi. Though some myths state that she made a deal with Delphi as even before his birth, Apollo's power was a cause for concern. The deal in question was to build a shrine/temple for the god and ensure that many would come to the island to worship.
Ancient Greeks believed that Delphi was the centre of Grandmother Earth which Zeus was trying to find. The king of gods let two eagles fly in opposite directions from the top of Mount Olympus. The two eagles eventually crossed paths in Delphi. Now home of oracle's and known to be Apollo and Artemis's birthplace.
His Birth:
Now safe from Hera, the other goddesses began to help her, save for Hera. However, Hera did capture Eileithyia (goddess of childbirth) and prevented her from going to Leto. Iris tricked Hera and managed to get the goddess to Delphi in time.
Leto struggled to give birth to her children while balancing on an olive branch for nine days. First born was Artemis who made quick work to help her mother deliver her younger brother Apollo another nine days later.
His Childhood:
Four days after his birth Apollo killed Python for chasing his mother (though some myths say the dragon fled to sacred land to prevent Apollo from killing him). When the giant Tityus attempted to assault her, the twins killed him. Again, the twins came to Leto's aid when Niobe attempted to shame and humiliate her. She said she was more serving than Leto because she gave birth to seven daughters and seven sons. When the twins were done, she only had one child left.

Okay, so there's actually not much for me to talk about for the bonus section, but there's also one more section I need to talk about:
The hacking section! You can access the lot of things here, like cheats, weapons to drop into your savefile, you can also view some images of guns, maps, cars and characters, which reveal some interesting tidbits (which for some damn reason I cannot view, so the following screenshots are from other people's videos on youtube:
Some interesting notes here regarding ages, heights and so on! Also I just realised that I was actually pretty okay on some of the Agent identifications after all! Also that age gap between Neo and Trinity :p
Also, Sparks is listed as 5'9 ft here, but I tend to think of him as his actor's height: 6'3 ft, because if you see him next to the others in the film, he's BIG.
If you play around with the hacking, you can have two conversations with some characters: first off being Trinity!
There you go, nothing to say here!
And the next person, and the end of this hacking section is....
My boooooooy!!
So, you go to type in the EMP command, and...
I'll remember this Sparks >:3 He'll play you a message from Neo, telling you to follow the white rabbit. Also the fact that Sparks says he'll do the cooking, and uses emoticons? Funny!
The gift he talks about is unlocking multiplayer mode, which you can play against your friends as characters such as Niobe, Ghost, Trinity, Neo and...
This is a special kind of ridiculous and I love it!
Remember I promised revenge on Sparks for his little prank?
Good luck playing the game, Sparks! XD
Fun fact, if you change over the costume files for either Niobe or Ghost, you can play as any character that's listed in the actor folder for Enter the Matrix: including Neo, Trinity or Morpheus.
In Sparks' case, it also highlights how tall Sparks is compared to the other two:
She's so small!
Okay, that's all for my bonus ramblings for Enter the Matrix, thank you for hanging in with me! :) Have a few screenshots from when I was installing the game onto my PC, enjoy!
Guess who's doing rewatches again? It's me, and well, not entirely a rewatch:
Yes, that's right, it's Enter the Matrix. Because it's criminal that for a blog named for the little ship that could, I've haven't actually done a deep dive on the game itself! So I'm going to fix that!
I'm also going to play through as both Niobe and Ghost, as depending on who you're playing, the missions play out slightly different, and the cutscene dialogue varies as well. Also, not going to do like a blow by blow kinda thing. Only going to comment on things that caught my interest, or seem rather amusing to me. If you want a little more context, I suggest checking out the couple of playthroughs/cut scene compilations on youtube.
Also of note, the game picks up right after the Animatrix short Final Flight of the Osiris.
Anyway, let's get to it!
AND IT'S THE MAIN REASON I'M STILL HERE, BECAUSE OF THIS PESSIMISTIC SNARKY COWARD RIGHT HERE. And he's self aware about it as well.
Also interesting to note is that according to this cutscene, Sparks has been operating on board the Logos for 3 years. Now, a standard US navy tour of duty (and I'm going with Navy rather than Army as Zion's army is referred to as a Navy fleet) is between 2-3 years. Not really going anywhere with this, but it's interesting to note.
Niobe is a 'my way or the highway' kinda person. No wonder it didn't work between her and Morpheus. It's also telling that Ghost has known Niobe for long enough to know that this is what she's like. I wonder if Ghost is the glue in this ship dynamic? As in, he knew Niobe and Sparks separately before they knew each other, if that makes sense?
And it's the little hovership that could, the little lightning bug of the fleet! Those red lights on the ship look like they're the same as the ones on the sentinels. I wonder if a bulb blows or something they scavenge one from a deactivated squiddie as a replacement?
It's not particularly clear, but I never realised that Niobe's hair is tied with what looks like string with gold in it? Maybe a metal band with gold on it? I'm not sure, but it's pretty!
Also, I appreciate that they give a reason why Niobe is going after this drop, rather than waiting for someone else (ie: Neo) to go get it.
Also, saying are you red or blue on this is a very cool in universe way of saying are you with me or not?
The subtitles are missing here, but what he says:
"You know me Niobe. It's not a choice, it's a way of life."
Ghost, you're awesome, you know that, right?
I get Sparks' complaint here, there are only two of them, and it would be a lot safer to wait for back up to help them out. But nope, you know what Niobe's like, get it done.
Also, as I remarked earlier, the fact that Niobe is willing to risk going in without support , especially given what she says about Thaddeus not using the drops unless he had no choice? And now they're all dead? They definitely need to get that package before the agents do.
I personally love Niobe's little eye roll here.
I also love that Ghost is more chill and amused by Sparks than exasperated like Niobe is. Yeah, Ghost is the glue holding the team together.
Also, a little mention of Zion funerary practices. As someone pointed out to me years ago, I suspect that the gardens is similar to the Exodus fleet's method of burial, but who knows?
Yup, words to live by!
Once again, Niobe is rolling her eyes behind the sunnies. This is what she has to put up with. Also, I would love to think that one time Sparks pranked Ghost by running some program that sent his guns soaring upward.
I always used to think that Ghost was the serious, no nonsense one in the crew, but I'm beginning to think I'm wrong on that front.
Sparks, why do you want his boots? They're too small for your big feet!
Niobe has great taste in old muscle cars. Good old 1967 Pontiac Firebird, in eggplant purple instead of black. Very stylish!
That's all for now, next up will be the post office. See you then!

Y'ALL! YALL!
I watched the new Matrix with my girlfriend last night AND OH MY GOD
That movie is Lana Wachowski forgetting how to give a fuck
It's nearly 3 hours of her flexing and flipping people off
She basically tells Warner Brothers to go suck her dick in the first hour of screen time
This bitch was so tired of people using "redpilled" to mean the dumbest most bigoted shit, that she decided that subtlety is for cowards and weaklings
Lana Wachowski is the most powerful bitch in Hollywood and she should be feared!
also if this isn't enough of a ringing endorsement there are like an ungodly amount of spoilers under the cut
The idea of making the Matrix a video game inside the new matrix (both the movie and the simulation I guess) was kinda fucking wild
We legit have characters going "the Matrix is a trans allegory", "no it's about crypto fascism", "no it's obviously about anti capitalism", within the first half hour of the movie
Note that this is followed by an actual agent of the matrix shutting down this conversation by saying that the games are about guns, explosions, and bullet time, and that no one cares about anything else
The fact that they fucking name drop Warner Brothers in a scene just to then frame them as a bunch of assholes dragging Neo back into a franchise he can't deal with anymore
And the queer allegories just won't fucking stop!
Neo and Trinity seeing themselves differently from how the world sees them
The constant mention of binaries just for them to be discarded entirely
Trinity having a completely normal heterosexual life with her husband Chad (FUCKING CHAD) but only finding true happiness in riding her bike, which is one of the few moments when you can "catch glimpses of her true self"
THE FUCKING MATRIX PUTTING THEM INTO COMPHET BULLSHIT
The main fucking bad guy being basically a fucking conversion therapist
The entire new crew for the new ship being like queer as all fuck. Like my girlfriend was making a joke about like "wow you know they're all queer because their idealized selves look like THAT" and not 3 seconds afterwards a dude says that he'd absolutely tap Neo's ass
Neo and Trinity actually saying they're gonna abandon subtlety and pain rainbows in the sky
Also Niobe has a wife in this. Good for her.
Speaking of the fucking real people outside the Matrix
We have good machines now!
Congratulations on making it very clear to those weirdos that, no the problem isn't outsiders and people different than you, the problem are those who choose to uphold an unjust system. Maybe people will actually learn that this time
Also I find it fucking hilarious how much older existential threats kinda get made fun off
Agent Smith? Keep going on and on about how he and Neo are so alike and how they're destined to meet again and again and- oops looks like someone forgot they're still just a toy in someone else's play house
The Merovingian (or Merv how he gets called in this) is just an angry french boomer who can't shut up about things he doesn't like and that no one takes seriously AT ALL!
Anyways I could keep talking about this movie for another like hour, but at that point i'd just be retelling the whole story
Just watch the new fucking Matrix, it's so good and so stupid in all the best and gayest ways

Of the entire matrix expanded universe (games/comics/etc), there's 3 animatrix shorts and 1 video game that are considered Official Canon. 2nd Renaissance is out there dropping an unbroken 20 minute monologue of earth-shattering new lore. Doing the entire group project by itself. You turn to any of the other 3 like, and what new info do you establish, little buddy? and they're like
[clears throat]
[dramatic pause]
"yes: people use the Construct for kinky shit. swordfight strip poker be upon ye."
cool, cool. anything else?
[lifts finger]
[even longer dramatic pause]
"bi Niobe (Biobe) :)"
#i think this is deeply valid & how all franchise worldbuilding should work#(counting matrix online as retconned by resurrections here)#the matrix

10 Anti LO Asks
1. I don’t think it’s the fact the “gifting ceremony with one bad option” is a common trope (which tbh it really isn’t even in old fairytales? But w/e) it’s the fact it’s so obvious Rachel is just lifting ideas from her Disney+ account to pad the story out even more than even attempt to think up something creative or god forbid let Persephone have any sort of flaws to her. The whole comic is mind-numbingly unoriginal and insultingly watered down with the sleeping beauty ripoff as more proof of that
2. why is there more instances of rachel trying to use mythology sources to "confirm" hades has kids and persephone was the hottest goddess ever over being remotely accurate on the actual hymn or mythology of hades, persephone, demeter, etc. she even purposely cut off the hymn quote in the first episode to focus on hades giving her gifts and not mentioning persephone was scared/crying and wanted to go back to her mother. shes aware she's wrong but wants to pretend she's a good faith adaptation.
3. I don’t even think HxP retellings realize they’re doing this but the way they look at the myth and go “hmm, how do I fix this? Oh yes, I make Persephone change who she is and and adjust her whole world to be with Hades!” Is unintentionally saying they read this myth of her being kidnapped & forced into marriage and thought it was HER fault she wasn’t thrilled to be Hades’ wife and that SHE needs to change for it to work. It’s lowkey victim blaming her for not loving Hades after he hurt her.
4. Everyone talks about how regressed of a character Persephone is because RS insists on always walking back even a step of character development, but can we talk about how stagnant Hades is? He has not changed in literal years at this point. He’s still the same violent, entitled asshole he was at the start. He has learned nothing and yet we’re supposed to praise how much he’s “grown”? The only way he’s grown is RS once again not using a design sheet and making him 8 feet tall, not developing him.
5. saw a LO stan try to defend the age gap as "that's just how the culture was!" as if that makes it better. yeah maybe in ancient times but LO is supposed to be modern with modern values, so why would it go off a culture it's not apart of? Even then it acts as if people didn't disagree with stuff like that even back then? Ancient societies also had slavery, should we be ok with that and ignore the abolitionists back then too? Then again RS thinks Hades is "smart" for his eternal slavery so :/
6. baby persephone has an adult face but adult persephone has a baby face. someone make it make sense please.
7. Not only was RS trying to use the Niobe myth as "proof" Zeus wasn't being "fair" to Persephone (even though her actions were far worse)/demonize Apollo/trying to be an excuse to Persephone's actions, it's a complete misread of the actual myth. The whole point of the Niobe story was Apollo and Artemis realizing what they did was wrong and doing what they could to atone for their actions, but go figure RS would butcher another myth to push her illogical story along for Persephone's benefit.
8. Apparently there’s some app drama with WT India so I wanted to see if it also showed up on the American end … and the ENTIRE ad video for the app and promo images are just of “read LO!!!l and that’s it. Like can’t they even pretend to promote their other series? Why keep releasing new comics each week when they only going to focus on the same comic? tho even the ad material only focused on the stuff from 2018 once again, so more proof they don’t want new customers to see what it’s become 🙄
9. not Rachel's publisher seeing how everyone dunked on how bad the vol 2 cover was that they had to bring in a designer to do it for her 💀 also is it just me or is the logo theyre going with it now kinda ugly?? it sure doesnt fit the actual story at least
10. aint no way she made a BABY arch her back out like she makes her adult women do???? no im not claiming she's a ped0 for it but ma'am that's just WEIRD. baby persephone is a walking hate crime.
