Nintendo Switch: DC Superhero Girls: Teen Power
I can be a bit of a geek, or a nerd. I know there is a difference between the two but I often use both synonymously. But I am also a bargain lover, who doesn’t love a good sale? The other day at Walmart looking for batteries, I stumbled upon this game. It was nearly half off, and I looked up the trailer and honestly, this looks like a blast! Let’s jump in.
Join the fight as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and Batgirl from the animated series DC Super Hero Girls, and save Metropolis from the tinkering terror of Toyman! With the city in danger, even frenemies like Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Star Sapphire will need to band together to help protect the town. Each Super Hero and Super-Villain has a unique set of abilities: for example, Wonder Woman uses her warrior skills with the Lasso of Truth and Flying Shield while Harley Quinn wields her Pop Roulette blaster that fires off mischievous effects to do both a little good and a little bad at the same time. More info here: https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/dc-super-hero-girls-teen-power-switch/
My Thoughts On The Game:
Full price is $60, but I picked it up in person on sale for $25. Before playing, I loved the idea of being the normal person that doubles as a super hero-with the choice to be bad or good! As a female person, I loved that this was all female. I appreciate a good balance of guys and gals in my comic books but...some of the coolest people tend to be male. It’s nice, while hopefully not too “feminist” of me to say, to see some proper female empowerment! It’s hard to be a strong woman without a proper example of what that looks like.
Anyways, social antics aside, gameplay. You enter into a cut scene where all the classic super heroes are teenagers who have a “normal” identity and a “super” identity. The graphics are kind of comic book like. You start off as super girl and are eased into the controls. You switch from the introduced hero teens. Just before I stopped playing they started getting to villains.
I love this game. It is much better if you know the characters, so maybe someone who is older or more well versed in the universe? I wouldn’t say this is just a girls game, but the male teenager version of this game would appeal more to the boys than this does. Very different game, kind of gave off persona vibes. Who is down to be a young female super hero? Which hero or villain is your favorite?

If you play a lot of Switch games, look into if your country provides the Nintendo Switch Online voucher service. It lets you buy two game vouchers for 100 bucks, both of which you can redeem for one 60 dollar Switch game, essentially saving you 20 dollars. As a streamer I have to stay on top of new releases, and for Nintendo games I always use those vouchers.

gifts i'd give to the rammboys:
till: a custom made stuffed bear from build a bear with a message recorded by me and perhaps a few other fans. a weighted blanket. a book on foraging and horticulture in general. more notebooks and a gift basket full of candy, including some stuff you can only find in ireland :3
flake: a nintendo 3ds xl that i modded myself and pre loaded with a bunch of my favourite games. the legend of zelda: breath of the wild AND tears of the kingdom for that nintendo switch i saw him lying next to in a photo his wife took. a voucher for a cat café. a book on vintage cars and some nice herbal tea
richard: a custom made lighter to look like a dragon breathing fire (with a message engraved of gratitude). black nail polish. fancy cigarettes and even fancier wine to pair with them. the first few volumes of death note or tokyo ghoul because i feel like he'd like those mangas and a cool shelf to put all his dvds on assuming he has them :))
schneider: a usb with a custom version of the original 1993 doom i made just for him. a nice and romantic date for him and ulrike. gloves to keep his hands from hurting while drumming. tickets to the next major handball tournament in germany and a new yoga mat
paul: the first ever build of a virtual pet game featuring minni. edible confetti that takes like chocolate. a fun day out with richard that may end in kissing 😳 /lh. a bubble machine for his whimsical self and matching outfits for him and minni
olli: the first few volumes of chainsaw man because i can see him enjoying that series as much as i do. a cool stand for his bass. a new surfboard. the chance to learn how to do parkour so he can climb higher walls for his fans and an opportunity to pet so many dogs in a puppy shelter in honour of minni landers :)
---
i kinda just started adding a gift that involves giving a piece of myself to them (i.e: my own interests) to each list of 5 and just rolled with it because i feel like that's so sweet 🥺 i just genuinely love them so much and they are my muses so ofc i'm gonna give a piece of my soul to them each <3
i put a lot of effort into this and tried to pick things i know they'd like so here we are lmaoo. i don't know the boys personally obviously so i went off of interviews, anecdotes, pictures and pure vibes :))

So I have a Nintendo Switch game voucher that's going to expire soon. (Was really hoping the next Pokemon game would come out before it expires, but sadly no.)
Should I get:
Super Mario Odyssey
Paper Mario: Origami King
Mario 3D World
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX
Something else?

A heads up for anyone looking to buy The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (all of you?).
Tears of the Kingdom can be preordered using a Nintendo Switch Game Voucher. That is a big savings over the $69 USD price tag the game is going for.
If you are unaware of how Game Vouchers work, you buy two for $99 and can redeem them for eligible games. That’s effectively getting two games for $50 each. With Tears of the Kingdom being a $70 game, you get a $20 discount by redeeming one of your vouchers.
EDIT: Here are links to purchase the vouchers and preorder Tears of the Kingdom.

Tomodachi life 2..... if only...
If I were to remake the game these are the changes id make!!
-Give options to change a miis sexuality. The only way you could get gay couples on the last game was to make them a boy and girl and just make them.look like the characters you want, and nintendo also said theyd include this in future games :)
-maybe a pronouns option too+ more gender options like nonbinary? Idk how theyd code miss having more than 1 set of them but i think its possible
-Miitomo had really good clothing customisation, being able to have bottoms and tops be seperate, so something like that would be great! I also see opportunity for more clothes overall, revamping old ones too
-keep the control over miis limited, this worked so well with the randomness of the game so any more control over miis would take away that magic
-Maybe miis could also have like... random fears assigned to them? And you only find out during random events when interacting with them, just like the fabourite and hated food events. I just think itd be funny
-more hair options! And also more customisation like in the switch version of miitopia, those were really good.
- more minigames! Particularly in theme with items your mii has, eg if they have a cat voucher maybe a cat themed mini game??
-ability to be able to set up family relations between miis without having 2 miis get married, because i dont want people asking out their siblings anymore its weird
-maybe a bigger island and more different types of starter islands! Each has a unique layout and 1 building unique to that island , eg a wintery theme island having a skii exclusive area
Also multiple save files!
- explorer miis from your own island visit back more often. Now you too can be reminded of these nightmare children!
-also explorers from other islands acknowledge you if theyve visited before. Every time i get an explorer thats been here 5 times they act like theyve never seen this island before
Idk how theyd implement streetpass? I think theyd have to code something specific for it since the switch does not have it as far as i know
Maybe miis travel between friends in your friends list who also have the game but then people with no friends would miss out
-addition of disabilities? Like miis in wheelchairs or amputees. Obviously theres way more than that imcluding invisible ones but even the addition of a couple would be great
-if u have any ideas let me know its so fun to fantasize about a remake since miitopia got one

Tears of the Kingdom would've been better if you got to pick Link or Zelda at the start, and the other one became trapped or whatever.
And yes, I got the game, had a spare Nintendo Switch Voucher lying around.

We all know Nintendo is really raking in that TOTK money right now, but thanks to the voucher system, all the other games on that list got mass downloaded too as consumers naturally wanted to save some cash.
Here are the top 10 games as of March 31, 2023, here are the number of Switch hardware and software sold as of that time as well. I'm usually not that interested in looking into these kinds of things, but I can't help but to wonder what the numbers are going to say next year.
#the legend of zelda#tears of the kingdom#totk#hot dang#this is honestly kind of terrifying#but it's clear the developers really put their all in this game#i haven't played it#but i'm watching other people#and almost everyone is getting so much joy out of it

Nintendo Switch: Game Vouchers!
I did plan on releasing this as part of a post that was a game you could get by voucher, but life got busy and the post has yet to be made. So we adjust and talk about it sooner!
Nintendo Switch Voucher:
Did you know this is one of the games you can get with a Nintendo Switch Game Voucher? Never heard of them either? I just got an email about them on Feb 1st. $100 gets you 2 vouchers, to be used on games by Nintendo that are $60 each normally. If you play that out, you get 2 games-normally $60 each-for $100,$20 off. This is a great way to get some big games like Pokemon, Kirby, and so much more! More info here: https://www.nintendo.com/store/games/game-voucher-eligible
I think this is really neat, this did not have enough marketing at all. My only complaint is that it is sooo digital. An older person getting a younger person a gift, could get them two games of their choice for cheaper and yet, how would they know how? It is not like its a card you can order in person and give to a kid. I like the concept, I think it needs more awareness and refining. Also, only nintendo games go on there. It is kind of rigged, but hey they own the system-we just play it. Have you used a digital voucher before?

Kirby Spinoff/Demo Wrap Up
So, I am done with all the mainline pre-switch Kirby games! But after Robobot, I poked my head into some of the later spinoff games and played the demos of the switch games and wanted to share my thoughts on those.
Rainbow Curse
Great art style hampered by playing on gamepad
weird multiplayer that trivializes the core gameplay
I just popped in and bopped Wispy Woods
It's not...bad, but I don't have the itch to play more
Blowout Blast
I tried a level each from the sub-game and the standalone release
Pretty cute and fun, if a bit plain
Standalone game is definitely worth the upgrade with its actual levels and much longer length
The combo system and grading does stress me out a little
I wouldn't mind beating each of these sometime
Battle Royale
Booting this up with no prior knowledge is a baffling experience
I thought this game was 9 different genres before figuring it out
Seems like Blowout Blast with combat at first
Then it seems like top down Smash Bros
Only for it to end up being...a poor man's Mario Party?
Seems like this game should have either leaned into being more of a fighting game with light MOBA elements (like the tutorial also kind of made it seem with highlighted friends/enemies, revives, a mix of small and big enemies)
...or it should have leaned into being a party game and focused on variety and having game boards
I could see myself doing the story mode out of morbid curiosity but I don't think I would immensely enjoy it based on my reaction to the stupid apple collecting minigame
Star Allies
I had played this demo before multiple times, both single player and multi player
This time, what occurred to me was the absurdity of porting Return to Dream Land to Switch FIVE YEARS after releasing a near-identical game on Switch, where the biggest issue is how similar the two games are.
And both games are still 60 dollars! They are literally both games right now as part of Nintendo's special "voucher deal" where you can get two full priced games at a marginally reduced price. FIVE YEARS LATER
For context, 2018 also had such beloved games as Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Spider-Man, and God of War, all of which drop to 10-20 dollars regularly now. Hell, God of War got ported to PC starting at 50 dollars since it was SO OLD and that was over a year ago
30 fps :( Triple Deluxe really spoiled me (I am the first person to ever say that, from what I've seen)
Anyways, its just Return to Dream Land but with the friend system of Super Star (roughly) and ability mixing inspired by Squeak Squad's upgraded sword (rouhgly)
Having 4 helpers makes things too easy, maybe I'd try the story solo if I ever got this
Everyone dunks on Star Allies online so I was expecting to see what they see, and I do, but the game is still a fun Kirby game
After some research however, I am extremely tempted to purchase the game for all the extra modes
Especially Guest Star: the idea of letting you replay an entire Kirby game locked into one power, allowing for 20 something unique playthroughs each with their own best-time is so tempting and I wish every game had it
Plus, it is so cool to see DLC friends from every mainline Kirby now that I get all those references!
This game goes on sale a bit sometimes, so it is now an actual contender to purchase
Super Kirby Clash
I mean, it's not great, but it is cute enough and a decent splitscreen timekiller
I kind of wish that now they'd just patch the game to be a bit less money-grubbing
More free to play games should have flawless splitscreen
Fighters 2
Let me just say: WOW
The gameplay is not super sophisticated, but the polish and sheen are off the charts
Literally Star Allies engine but in 60 fps!
Two player roguelike story mode????
Exclusive copy abilitity?
Unique helper characters???
This game is clearly so much more than a sequel to the sub-game
Hilariously blows Fighters Deluxe out of the water in terms of...everything
Might get this if it ends up being fun splitscreen in the demo
Forgotten Land
Pretty fun demo
Only did the first level on "wild style", waiting to do the whole demo coop
30 fps :(((
Mario Odyssey was 60 fps SIX YEARS AGO
And speaking of, this game I think was expected to be "Kirby Odyssey" or "Kirby Breath of the Wild"
But it doesn't even feel like "Kirby's Mario 64" or "Kirby Ocarina of Time"
It feels more like "Kirby 3D Land"
It seems almost offensive that Kirby is a series with its identity rooted in novelty and unique gimmicks, yet the only 3D games before were a racing game, a minigame (with no copy abliities!), and a minigame collection kind of
Seems like a promising start, but I am not sure I want to drop 60 bucks just for a few more hours of this
Don't get me wrong, its cute and fun and wonderful, but it seems like "A fun Kirby game" and not "the Kirby game to end all Kirby games"
Might be tempted though if the local coop is really good
Dream Buffet
No demo for this one but I've got my eye on it

I played most of the Pikmin games, most recently Pikmin 3 on Wii U which looking back was not all that recent. Pikmin 4 was on my radar but it was the coverage on this week’s Nintendo Direct that sold me on it.
Right away, Oatchi the dog looks like a great addition. It will be fun having a dog companion to help solve the puzzles. The new ice Pikmin type is also a welcome addition and compliments the ever growing family of Pikmin.
Pikmin 4 releases July 21st which would be a great game to land on after pumping a few hundred hours into Tears of the Kingdom. That’s my plan, anyway. (You could redeem a Nintendo Switch Game Voucher for Pikmin 4, too).
Side note: Pikmin has a special place in my heart because my son had a tuft of hair in the front of his head when he was a baby that reminded me of Captain Olimar. He’s at an age where he could appreciate the Pikmin games today. I’m curious if he will want to play this one.
-Christian
