One of my besties and fellow D&D player and I have made a Little Mermaid AU surrounding our three characters: Promise (me), Nikolai (also me), and Prince (my friend).

They are two male simps who are completely and utterly in love with the absolute Queen (both literally and metaphorically) that is Promise, and through those feelings and slight rivalry find that they also love each other.

We have shipped these three bafoons for ages, but this mermaid AU of them is consuming me.

"and so, i wait." / The Witch, Lady Nikola Cogita 👒🩸👿

A lady in black in a state of perpetual mourning, for the life and love she could have had. Though her heart is broken, she loves no one but her child.

Don't Lose Your Way: Nikola Cogita was the middle child of her sisters. Like many in the hidden village south of Snowbelle City, she worshipped Arceus. She desired a family of her own- but the man she loved did not reciprocate her feelings, instead, favoring her favorite sister; the youngest.

Hanamekanai: Many of her sisters and their spouses would leave the village for greener pastures, something she felt bitter towards; she convinced herself she was upset at them for abandoning their village, rather than acknowledging she was jealous of their happiness. On the night of her youngest sister's wedding, she left the village to pursue an education in medicine, as she was the village doctor's apprentice.

Witch Hunt: At some point, her unique practice in medicine and her peculiar attitude towards Arceus had labelled her a witch in Kalos- and she was eventually captured and scheduled to be executed. In the midst of the fire, however, her body did not turn to ashes; a black hole formed from under her feet, where she fell into the Distortion World, tearing her body into pieces.

One Off Mind: However, she later finds herself awake, just outside the village she left behind. The voice of the devil rings in the back of her head, claiming that Arceus has decided to reward her for her patience and her faith.

Despite her fears, her village welcomes her back with open arms, and tells her that her youngest sister and her spouse had left the village to assist the king in the growing Kalos war, leaving behind their only son, the last child of the village.

Lucifer: With the aid of the village, she names the child Acro, and takes him in as her own son, lovingly referring to him as her little dove. Claiming that she still desires to travel to further her knowledge, she would become the village's unofficial mayoress and healer, as well as Acro's teacher in the ways of Arceus.

El Tango Egoista: Though she desired to, she did not enact revenge against the Kalos king or those who executed her, believing in Arceus' words and plan for her and her family. She forms a bitter rivalry with the king of Kalos, Azriel, who she blames for the death of Acro's parents- and who she mocks, as he seeks her help in aiding the war.

Devil: Throughout the years, Lady Cogita would spread fear throughout Kalos from the shadows, many who claimed she was seeking revenge for those who wrongfully accused her of being a witch. Other rumors surfaced that, with each person she had influenced beforehand to believe in the power of Arceus, the stronger she became.

Good Child and The Fox Spirit: When a grown-up Acro is forced to flee the village for his own safety at the cusp of the war, she could only watch from the shadows as the same crimes against her happens to him; and he, like her, is inflicted with the curse of immortality. Following Arceus' and Giratina's words, she does not show herself to Acro, who takes on many names and identities throughout the years in his efforts to enact revenge on The False Prophet, his killer.

Queen: In the present day, she has successfully orchestrated many events that directly affect the heroes of the regions of the world. Despite her growing power and eventually embodying Giratina herself, she does not desire to be beyond a messenger of Arceus.

She only desires to find peace for her little dove, Nikolai Colress, and to reunite him with the spirits of their village.

Red: In the shadows, Arceus' plans for the world come to fruition. She is an observer to the events of the world, from the fateful battle at Unova that reunited the fabled princes with their shared heart, from the divine punishment sent down by Arceus towards her rival, the immortal wanderer AZ, once known as King Azriel of Kalos.

Her beloved child Nikolai, outliving those who had inadvertently helped him find peace, finally passes after centuries of waiting, his skin cracking and his body becoming one with the garden he crafted, based from his memories of his childhood with her. Successfully reuniting his spirit with the villagers with the use of the Odd Keystone, Cogita continues to carry out Arceus' will, accompanied by the spirits of her loved ones for all of eternity.
