"Ultima IV Rebirth" Gets Another Unofficial Patch
Yet another patch for "Ultima IV Rebirth" - a remake of "Ultima 4" for NWN:EE - has been released, fixing still yet more bugs in the base module.
For those unfamiliar with the project, Ultima IV Rebirth is a module for Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition originally developed by Melavir Sauin Dragon. While not a fully faithful re-creation of Ultima 4 (mainly due to the limitations of the NWN engine), it is nevertheless a very keen take on the game, and it is enjoyable to experience its story — and the world of Britannia, as Melavir was…

Party/Squad companions
Companion-wise in each of the Dragon Age games, who would each of you say is closest to Garrus Vakarian from the Mass Effect series? Trying to figure that out for a certain playthrough/s later

They killed his hot date.
[ID: screenshot from the video game neverwinter nights original campaign setting depicting the player character from behind and slightly overhead, armed with a short bow, looking down at Chandra, the student sorcerer he met before the attack on the Neverwinter Academy, lying dead on the floor. above his head a talk caption indicates that the PC is named godfrey chandler and is saying: "damn!" the portrait thumbnail in the upper right-hand corner of the screenshot depicts a light-skinned male bard with shoulder-length brown hair holding a lute, and underneath that is a thumbnail depicting a summoned dire badger. /end ID]

Here is a preview of Friday video sets. In NWN EE Infinite Dungeons, It is time to explore the zone for the bosses lair. In Baldur's Gate 3 I am covering some loose ends like this one before going into the Goblin Camp. The first video is out after 12pm EST.

I’ve been playing neverwinter nights for the first time and I couldn’t figure out why my dude kept stretching and yawning - I was like, damn these are pretty good idle animations for 2006.
And then I’m in this crypt fighting bugs and the dead and spiders and shit and my strength is decreased - I was like, hm maybe I got poisoned. I tried to use medicine and nah, no poison.
I figured aight it’s annoying, but I guess this place is just cursed or whatever. I kill a big spider that does poison me and after I treat that, coincidentally, my movement speed is decreased and I’m like DAMN this place is HELLA CURSED.
I teleport out of there to go check if the priests know anything in the temple of tyr, but nope, nada, nothing!
So I check my quick bar and see I’ve used up my 2 charges of barbarian rage I get per day, so I was like fuck it I’ll rest while I’m in the temple. Thus far I had just been hoboing it up resting in crypts and sewers and corpse laden streets figuring it must be the same thing as sleep, right?
NO
There was no CURSE, MY CHARACTER WAS JUST SLEEP DEPRIVED LMAO

I love how the corpses in Neverwinter Nights play Andy's Coming as areas load.
Some of the kobolds aren't very good at it. 😄
They remind me of those sticky gel spiders you'd throw at the wall, then watch them flop their way down.

Spewage Litmus: Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition
While the "enhancements" are nothing to write home about, and NWN remains plagued by the deeply awful mechanics of 3rd Edition D&D, the potency of the nostalgia created by this game is almost overwhelming. After playing a few modules, I find myself wanting to dig deep into the toolset once again and try to correct for the game's fundamental systematic flaws. The fact that it's within my grasp to do so (even with no real coding or modding experience to speak of) is perhaps NWN's greatest achievement as a product. The fact that NWN is so poorly remembered that there is no one left to play the module, even if I were to make it, is perhaps the most bitter disappointment. Pour one out for this forgotten GOAT.
EXCEPTIONAL

Hey you! If you liked Baldurs Gate 3's story and reactivity and roleplaying opportunities, and weren't just strictly dazzled by fancy cutscenes then you might like! The entire crpg genre! But specifically, a bunch of really good ones are in a humble bundle right now available for less than the RRP for any of the more recent ones!
(Currently £27/$35/€31 for all games or £11/$14/€13 for everything except Rogue Trader if that's not your cup of tea)
Pathfinder: Kingmaker + DLCs
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous + DLCs
Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader
Plus a bunch of classics (afaik none of these are fully voiced if that matters to you, but still have great stories)
Baldurs Gate Deluxe Edition
Baldurs Gate 2 Enhanced Edition
Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition
Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition
Neverwinter Nights + expansions
I especially recommend Wrath of the Righteous, its only a year or two old and has very impressive divergent story and companion paths!
I'm very surprised that a bundle this good has been going for a few days and I still have a top 5 'leaderboard' contribution for paying barely above the minimum.
#i just haven't gotten around to rogue trader yet#these games are all Hundreds of hours long#icewind dale might be overall shorter iirc? i never got that far in it#the older dnd games are based on 2e and the gameplay isn't hugely for me but eh#i liked nwn though!#baldurs gate#pathfinder

would absolutely LOVE recs for cheaper rpgs with better endings 🙏
OF COURSE!!
These are all rpg games that have been out enough that discounts and cheaper prices are quite common. I think it might depends on the country and time, but they should be relatively easy to find (both on steam, or cdkeys or gog).
I put them in order of how satisfied I was with the ending! (no spoilers)
Okay, this is a maybe. Not sure if I would call this an rpg but Heaven's Vault allow you to make choices in your game so almost? the ending is SO GOOD. I was absolutely floored and satisfied. You know when a game peppers clues everywhere and then you realize THAT was it? Not only it is good, but not everything is explained, not in a bad sense, but in a "you can put together the history of the world". Dreamfall Chapters is another game that is not a classic rpg but I would absolutely recommend. Unavowed too!
Pathfinder Kingmaker. This game is so dear to me, and the endings, especially the companions endings and the romances endings are so detailed! Little changes in the game and you can get different ones! Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous too, but that is relatively new so it might be more expensive.
The whole Dragon Age series, from origins to Dragon Age II and Inquisition (if you consider the last DLC the ending) are just perfect!
Sorcery! not only I love this rpg to pieces, but it is pretty cheap (it is one story but divided in 4 games, so you can try the first part and see if you like it). The 4th game actually reminds me of BG3 act 3 but done well haha. You have to sneak in a certain place in a city, and it is beautiful. So many choices and the romance really works so well (I think it is kinda... part of the story, as in the game benefits from having the romance in it)
Enderal (which is actually a free game). NOW WAIT. If you played this game you are wondering why I would put it even here - the thing is... I think the endings are just perfect.
Divinity Original Sin 1, no companions or romances but I found the ending a nice and complete conclusion to the game.
Neverwinter Nights 2 if you play the Mask of the Betrayer as a perfect ending!
The original Baldur's Gate games do a good job with the ending if you play the Enhanced Edition! There are also some great mods (DORN ROMANCE MOD) that in my opinion fix some things!
Age of Decadence: no companions, and definitely different from an usual rpg, imagine it more as an exploratory rpg! The ending explained every strange little thing going on in the game.
Tides of Numenera. This game gets a lot of criticism, but I think the story (for how much chaos there is in the world of the game) has an interesting and surprising ending

I stumbled upon this today and thought I would share: if you're an Amazon Prime member, in celebration of Prime Day/Month, you can currently get Baldur's Gate II, Neverwinter Nights (Enhanced Edition) and many other classic pc games for free to own forever if you claim the code by the deadline (which varies by game, but are different days in July mostly). These are not Steam codes; but rather, codes for Amazon's gaming app, or for a different 3rd party gaming site which will provide the file download for you.
Just thought I'd let people know as Baldur's Gate III is coming out soon and some people might want to play its immediate successor and/or a related title before the release :)
