Hi all -- I'm on vacation this week, and I wanted to share with you some shots of my trip earlier today to Roger Williams Park Zoo to look at their "Dragons & Mythical Creatures" exhibit! This is a special exhibit running until August 11th where they've set up a bunch of simple animatronics of various mythical creatures from around the world around their Wetlands Trail path. The animatronics are a bit goofy, as you can probably see from the above pictures, but they were still fun to look at, and I had a good time going through and looking at them all with my folks. :) In order of their appearance in the photoset above, we have --
-->An alicorn (winged unicorn) right at the entrance
-->A siren by the lake -- they actually had three mermaids, but the other two were the traditional lovely ladies, so I decided to prioritize getting a picture of the one with the goofiest smile XD
-->Your traditional European dragon, who roared with glowing eyes
-->The Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, depicted in feathered serpent form wrapped around a pyramid
-->The Ninki Nanka, a West African beast with the face of a horse, the neck of a giraffe, and the body of a crocodile, which lives in muddy mangroves and according to the Limba people in Sierra Leone, causes thunder and lightning -- as you can see, this one has a horn for extra value
-->An Egyptian Sphinx sporting the traditional Egyptian funerary mask for pharaohs -- honestly, between that technicolor mask and the way it was wiggling its head, it was one of the most off-putting exhibits there
-->A Japanese kappa, a mischievous creature that here appears as a turtle standing upright with a vicious-looking beak and a divot on the top of its head -- I believe that divot is supposed to hold water, and if you can trick them into bowing to you, the water will flow out and they'll lose a lot of their powers
-->A Japanese Kasa-obake, which is an old and neglected umbrella that has picked up a spirit and become a mischievous ghost with a long tongue and a single eye. ...I will admit, I immediately accused it of being a Pokemon. XD
-->A traditional griffin, with the white feathered head, wings, and talons of an eagle and the body of a lion -- I especially like this one because it includes feathered ears as well, something you don't see on a lot of griffins -- but that you do see on the GRYPHON in the original Alice books!
-->A yeti -- who you may recognize as Bumble from the Rankin-Bass stop motion Christmas films, because apparently the park couldn't resist
-->FUCKING CTHULHU. With his head out of proportion to the rest of his body. If you're wondering what the hell he's doing here, Roger Williams Park Zoo is in Providence, Rhode Island, which just so happens to be the birthplace of HP Lovecraft. I guess they felt they had to. XD

ok but like. i dont think i really see that many people talk about gollum in lord of the rings in a plural way, when he is literally having active (AND VISIBLE!!!) switches on-screen and has multiple conversations with himself as two separate entities

We got the Toby Fox effect once again for Tulip vs Larry because Toby contributed to the game
I feel like Larry isn't even half as weird as he would need to be to be a Tumblr sexyman

Man, you ever stumble across a random word you've never heard of before while watching or reading a piece of media and suddenly it just clicks like "Ohhhhh THAT'S what that Pokémon is named after."
I didn't know that Poliwag's name came from polliwog until I watched Amphibia.
I didn't know that Zorua and Zoroark's names came from el zorro aka the Spanish word for fox until I watched the Antonio Banderas Zorro movies
I didn't know that Delphox was named after the Oracle of Delphi until I read the Percy Jackson books

How do you think a modern revalink dynamic would change (if at all) from like dating for a year or two vs. being married for several years? Your most recent post gave me brainworms, and I'm curious if your thoughts line up with mine!
HI IRI i hope you're enjoying the brainworms <3 i had to think about your actual question for a little bit because i got too excited at the idea of married revalink LMAO
tbh revalink being married kind of reminds me of my own parents, who have been married 20+ years, who bicker with each other all the time, but still act like every dinner is their first date because my dad is a sap. so in that sense, i feel like revali and link would still be utterly infatuated with one another, not in the puppy love way, but rather in a more evolved, mature way i guess? like revali will still be extremely fond of link and just how he is as a person, but after being married for 20+ years, he'll look up from his bowl of oatmeal at the breakfast nook to watch link wash the dishes in a tank top and boxers, and feel the urge to get up to hug link from behind. so he does and link will melt into him, continuing to wash the dishes and revali will kiss the back of link's neck, and it's like. this is the most content that revali has ever been in his entire life... until their seven year old comes running into the kitchen screaming being chased by their older sibling and the dog, but you get the point.
the way i'm perceiving it right now, it's like. when they first started dating, you could tell that revalink's dynamic was gonna be "two stubborn shitheads who are so obsessed with each other and fight as flirting", but thirty years later, their dynamic is like "two stubborn shitheads who are still obsessed with each other, but it's like their souls are always falling in step with one another." revali and link know each other like the back of each other's hands, they can predict each other's every movement and thought, and they don't have to say a word to know what the other needs or wants. they both grow really soft and sentimental over each other, and no one expects that from revali particularly. he can still bite tho (especially if you insinuate anything negative about him, link, or their marriage/family) so y'all be on your guard!
i do want to emphasize though, revali doesn't lose his tsundere-ness lol. like i said, he can still bite! he'll always have that streak of pride and arrogance but it's been significantly tempered by link's presence which is why i want to note that he's softer, not soft. but if you can catch the way he looks at link, any doubt you could have held that he loves link will disappear in seconds.
as for link, he's probably a little less feral than he was when they first started dating, but he's still jumping revali's bones at any given opportunity. definitely the type to let everyone know he has a husband and he loves his husband very much. revali's presence in his life has made link significantly brighter and sweeter to everyone around him because revali is his rock and link knows he always has someone to support him up through everything, so he doesn't need to worry.
so to completely answer your question: it's not that their dynamic changes by a lot, it just evolved and got stronger and more powerful. like pokemon. 😃👍

i really want to start making a table collecting statistics on the audience demographics i'll perform my aubrey material for (like what generation most of the audience is, whether i'm performing in a predominantly queer space, etc.) and how well the jokes land bc like. i need to collect more data points before i can properly present my findings but the results so far have been fascinating
#again i do not have enough performance experiences to make any definitive claims about who ''aubery's audience'' is#but i find it funny that any time i show my aubrey material one-on-one to a queer gen z person#they're always like ''i love it but straight people will definitely hate it or not get it''#and i get the inclination to be like. ''i like this thing so people like me will like this thing''#and cishet society seems so polarized w/r/t queer topics it's like. the assumption makes sense#however. whenever i've done an aubrey performance in front of an audience that's predominantly queer and gen z#i've actually received a primarily negative response!! and somehow straight people have never given me shit for my aubrey material#(''well straight allys don't count'' i told some of my aubrey jokes to a joe rogan dudebro and he enjoyed them)#(which yeah maybe could be a mark against my comedy but i like to think i opened his mind a bit at the very least)#i really want to test my aubrey monologues in front of a primarily gen x/boomer audience#bc so far i only have actual performance experience in front of gen z or millennials#and the older people i've told jokes to individually or shown videos of my stuff have really liked it#luckily paul has said a goal for when i'm in town this summer is to get me to perform my aubrey stuff in as many different places as possib#for both queer audiences and non-queer audiences so i can gauge reactions since i don't want to be confined to one demographic#so i'll get a lot of data points this summer#@ paul get me a performing slot at senior citizen pride lmao these are my people#(shoutout to paul going ''jess stop collecting the old homos!'' last time i was in town)#(and when i imitated him and was like ''old gay men are not your pokemon!'' bellini was like ''ok but they may be your audience'')#also one data point i really want to see the variation on is how my one specific joke plays in these different demographics#bc i have a joke that like. it's literally not even about AIDS and doesn't punch down at all#i literally say ''if you're gay and over the age of 50 you could violate the geneva convention and i'd still be like support our troops''#like obviously being like ''you have been through hell so i will let you get away with literal war crimes you deserve ultimate immunity''#BUT. in the line right before the quote i use the phrase ''AIDS generation'' not as a derogatory term but being like.#this horrible thing impacted the entire generation y'know? and bellini and scott and their friends call themselves that it's just the term#but when i said the phrase ''AIDS generation'' in front of my gen z audience i heard gasps and felt like they all hated me#and when i did the same line in front of millennials it wasn't quite as striking but their eyes did widen#like i was suddenly an ''edgy comedian''. but like this is a part of our history and it does inform the story i'm telling#the story i'm telling is comedic but it's grounded in this real world context#and i'm like. @ the audience who was offended: when was the last time any of y'all spoke to a gay man over the age of 50#bc bellini loves that section of the monologue and was offended that people would even take offense to that phrase

I’ve had a quest for the last two years to make both learn the Pokérap by heart and have it as my top song on my Spotify wrapped, it’s not worked so far, so I’m extra determined this year, however while making a playlist of different Pokémon songs- because I am not insane enough to just listen to the Pokérap on repeat, ok maybe I have tried that but it didn’t work so trying new things- I’ve stumbled across the fucking best bloody Official Pokémon songs in existence. We’ve got exhibit A: https://open.spotify.com/track/6wBxZVHYEQIneoR3YKxRhW Two perfect girls, which is just Brock singing about being in love with Officer Jenny and Nurse joy and you just have to fucking hear it the music is just genuinely so bloody good, it absolutely did not have to go this hard, yet it does, and i think everyone should appreciate that. I don’t think you understand how good this song is, like it genuinely fucking slaps  And Exhibit B:  https://open.spotify.com/track/7AU99oesEH98RaTDJEx5f7 Double Trouble (Team Rocket), they fucking made an official team rocket song and no one told me?? Jessie and James do the whole prepare for trouble make it double thing in song James has this fucking evil laugh that I lose it over whenever it plays and they just, they just sing about getting Pikachu, once again, they did not have to make this song a fucking banger and yet they did and we have got to appreciate this fucking master piece. I just can’t get over how these are official fucking songs (if anyone has any other stupidly good official Pokémon songs then please fucking attach the links)
