Hi Guys,
Last weekend we’re ‘Baby Goths’ OR ‘Gothics in Training’, attending the The Brisbane Gothic and Alternative Picnic in Brisbane. A gathering for gothic & alternative communities and their friends. Here I got to meet with a lot of amazing and clever gothic people and they give me insight into ‘why they love being gothic’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dS2Azyo1H8 via YouTube

Edward Ghost: Chapter 1
Author's note: Hello, this is me translating the first chapter of my book in English so people read it and see if they like it.
Tumblr media
Each step was closer to the end. If he had the courage to raise his head he would have seen it, he would have seen the end. But for once, the first and last time, he decided to be kept blind and oblivious. He fully knew what was happening, and through many lies he repeated, for more plausible they were, it was useless. A voice in the back of his head repeated at all times this was the end, this was the end. His breath felt choppy and couldn’t make use of any logic to know if it was better to inhale by the nose and exhale by the mouth, do otherwise, or what to do. Was his back straight? No, he had a little hump from looking at the floor, he straightened his back because he was told that a bad posture was harmful long-term. Soon the hump came back. He tried to think of anything else, anything but the end. There was no point in straightening his back.
It was useless to keep trying to lie to one-self when —still with his head down— he saw he stopped walking through the corridor to enter a well-known room. He wanted to look up, look if this was the room he imagined for so long so full of people. He tried to haul off once again, like he did so many times during his life. He raised his chin until he was face to face against it: the chair.
Is this all that’s left? After so many years, a chair. When he faced the chair, looked at it, all fear seemed to dispel and felt welcome by it as a home. The panic made his breath breaky, weak knees, taut, all disappeared to the touch of the chair to make way for a calm man that knew very well what was happening. They were talking around him, even an audience made his way to see this end from the outside. He ignored whatever they were talking about, he knew the nature of it, but didn’t care a lot.
The chair touched his knee, but he only knew because of the sight of it: he felt nothing. They pressed his shoulders, making him sit, and while they followed the procedure he saw himself in all the faces of all these people. Their faces seemed to lose sense, they didn’t look human, they didn’t look anything. Those were blurry eyes, too defined to be recognizable or without any figure. Their mouths twisted and couldn’t think of them as part of the face, but as the hole where food enters to the digestive system. For him, everyone there was no longer a person, they were just human, all the same.
Nothing seemed real. In that situation, a time ago the question that would come to his mind was the existence of God. On another time he would try and murmur some beg with the hope that his judgment was less severe and maybe enter heaven even though he questioned the existence of Something Above. God would understand he was a man of science and as such, he doubted, and he knew He would understand because God made him a man of science. But that was many years ago… Maybe not years, just time. Now he wouldn’t ask for mercy, he wouldn’t murmur begs, wouldn’t look nor heaven nor God. If God was there he doubted, there was no God so forgiveful that would let him sin in such a way to, now, die almost peacefully on a chair. The chair wasn’t enough punishment for all his sins, and he knew. Maybe Satan was the one watching over hum. But there was no one else than him: in his eyes he was Satan and he was God.
No one in the room could feel any mercy for the soul of that scholar. There reigned mindless hate, detachment, morbidity, and if there was something sane to feel it was a curiosity that —if it was still there— would mean their innocence. All of them were sinners like the man about to die, all of them were sinners like the human they were.
While the man in the chair tried to not remember, he looked at all the chairs in front of him —non-fatal— and could only see one face. That face wasn’t only a human, an animal, it was a person with a soul as destroyed as his. Or that made his face seem, that for anyone else, nothing out of the ordinary. It was a common face, and if I defined it to you, defined the nose, the eyes, the mouth, the chin, you wouldn’t be able to put an image. It was a face for everyone, but to the man with seconds to die it wasn’t. What was there in such features? How could he see his soul? That was the face of a friend and punisher.
That was the face of Adam von Gewak.

Day 21: The Origins and Evolution of Steampunk: A Journey Through Invention and Originality
Introduction Steampunk, a genre that fuses history, invention, and a distinctive blend of fantasy and science fiction, is known for its unique visual aesthetic and storytelling. Rooted in the Victorian era’s fascination with technology, the genre takes inspiration from steam-powered machinery and the early Industrial Revolution, merging past innovation with futuristic imagination. The history of…

My favorite Goth sub-sub-cultures and genres
Goth has evolved a lot from the fans of genre specific music of the 70s to 1990s. It still has its roots in the music and heavily with a particular aesthetic.
I'm an old school but not quite "elder Goth" yet (I'm forty-two). And I'm a cross between Neo-Victorian Goth and Halloweeen Aesthetic Goth. I'll explain both of those as best I can.
A Neo-Victorian is a Goth who likes Nostalgia, particularly things that resemble the look and feel of late nineteenth century England and New England (North East US). Many Neo Victorian Goths wear nineteenth century fashion. I, myself, love nineteenth century style Goth attire but I prefer male Neo Victorian Fashion to womanly. Neo Victorians also tend to love antiques and antique reproductions. One of the earliest examples of a Neo Victorian Goth look can be found in Goths of 1992 trying to emulate Gary Oldman's Dracula in London look. For music most Neo Victorians tend to favor people like Aurelio Voltaire, certain scores by Danny Elfman, Gothic music that incorporates old fashioned instruments and especially the use of Violins, piano, and sometimes even a theremin. The music is more Gothic than Goth though there is Goth that fits the aesthetic. There's a romanticism to it. And a lack of cynicism that can be found in some other branches of Goth. ___________________________ Halloween Aesthetic Goth Halloween Aesthetic Goth is a more playful side of Goth culture that embraces a self-aware cheesiness while also unashamedly loving all the tropes and cliches we associate with the holiday. It a respectful love of things other people tend to only enjoy seasonally. These are the sort of Goths who leave Halloween related items out all year or collect Halloween related things and do home decoration shopping during the Halloween season and in Halloween stores or Halloween sections of stores.
The music connected with this branch of Goth also entails artists like Aurelio Voltaire but also delves into the Goth adjacent. Pretty much anything that plays on Halloween radio dot net. Novelty songs and any music about Gothic topics or set a Gothic mood. This can entail Halloween party music that you wouldn't associate with Goth culture though Bauhaus could fit in here too but also things as old (or older) than Bobby "Boris" Pickett's Monster Mash, and as recent as Creepy Crawlies by Scary Bitches.

My whole steampunk outfit, I still need to make a proper base skirt for this but it was good enough for the picnic I wore it to. Also very proud of the collapsible bamboo bustle I made for this
